Chapter 5: Baby Steps

What TRULY happened when Han Donghoon and Lee Gilyoung teamed up.

A retelling of ORV's Webtoon chapter 94-95!

Han Donghoon runs his hands through his hair as he huffs in frustration. No matter how hard he tries, he can’t seem to push any words out of his throat. It’s as if his brain isn’t cooperating with his mouth.

“Hey, it’s alright,” Lee Gilyoung reassures him, sitting next to him on the cold ground. Han Donghoon gets his phone out and begins typing.

- I’m sorry for asking you to help me. I’ve wasted your time.

Shaking his head Lee Gilyoung answers, “No. Quit apologizing, I’m glad we at least gave it a try.”

After being separated from the others both Lee Gilyoung and Han Donghoon were quick to team up. Both bonding over two things in common, being kids in an apocalypse and being Kim Dokja’s friend.

Despite his anxiety, Han Donghoon asked Lee Gilyoung for help. He believed there was still hope for him and wanted to try speaking. But he needed to practice with someone. To impress Kim Dokja, he would be so shocked. Too bad it was all wasted effort. He felt anger and disappointment course through him.

“Let’s go look for the others, okay?” Lee Gilyoung says as he gets up and extends his arm forward. Han Donghoon lightly smiles and nods an ‘okay’ as he takes his hand.

In little to no time, before they knew it, both boys were sliding off a giant praying mantis to greet Kim Dokja. Lee Gilyoung ran to hug the older man as Han Donghoon pulled his phone out.

Kim Dokja, looking surprised to see a familiar face, exclaims, “Han Donghoon! How long has it been? A week?”

Kim Dokja’s phone buzzes right on cue. “Huh? A text message?”

- Nice to see you again, Dokja.

“It’s been a while since we last saw each other. Would it hurt you to just speak to me?” Kim Dokja asks, as he glances between his phone and the teen.

He hides a grin behind his phone as he types.

- I don’t want to.

Although Han Donghoon wishes to have greeted him with his own voice, he knows Kim Dokja understands. And that’s all he could ever ask for.

Characters that deserved more screen time:

(Because as much as I would like to worship the ground Sing-Shong treads upon, I would also like to see more of my underrated babies)

Kim Namwoon. I have already made a pointless rant but i really think he could have had more of a presence after Gigantomachia.

Yoo Mia. She's kind of just there most of the time, despite being one of the main character's only living relative. And she doesn't contribute much to the story, as both a character and a plot point, after the Absolute Throne Arc. (You may correct me on this part because I really can't just remember any other detail of Yoo Mia.) And not that I'm preaching anything crazy but I think Mia would have made a pretty great sidekick with that inventory skill of hers.

Han Donghoon. HE WAS BASICALLY A MINATURE KIM DOKJA, HE HAD SO MUCH OPPURTUNITY FOR CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT, WHY COULDN'T KIM DOKJA ADOPT DONGHOON AS WELL

Han Myungoh and Dareum. I know you guys are sick of this man. He's an absolute bastard. You're glad to be rid of him. But we all agree that the mpreg really changed him. Dareum was a little angel who we never even got to know anything about. She was just known solely as Asmodeus' host. Sing-Shong, I beg of you, let us love this little angel more.

Lee Seolhwa. But like, as an actual person. You guys might hate me for this but Seolhwa always felt kind of stiff to me. She just felt like a convenient side character, like she's just always in the background healing the wounded (well duh K, she's a doctor) but I always imagine what it would have been like if Seolhwa truly was a resentful and villainous character who managed to escape her darkest moments by the help of the KimCom, instead of just "oh she was possessed by Antinus, Seolhwa was good all along."

YOO JONGHYUK'S LITERAL UNBORN DAUGHTER EJXJU3JDUEHRURJ WHY WAS SHE JUST SHOVED ASIDE, WHY WAS SHE ONLY BROUGHT UP FOR LIKE ONE ARC, YOO JONGHYUK I GET YOUR BAD RELATIONSHIP WITH YOUR PAST BUT HAVE YOU NO FEELINGS FOR THE CHILD YOU NEVER GOT TO HOLD

Again all of this is highly opinionated, I can see why some of these characters were kinda shoved into the backroom. With such a large and diverse cast, it's not really easy to give everyone enough screentime, the webnovel would have been a thousand chapters long if Sing-Shong actually did that, but a reader can dream.
