Having some thoughts on the function of capital and property in ORV but im only 20% of the way through so we shall see
#orv.read#2 my understanding it is a wonderful novel that ppl enjoy analyzing deeply#so w that in mind i went in trying 2 accumulate some thematic thoughts during these formative chapters#but it remains 2 b seen if any of what i mentioned plays any sort of symbolic role whatsoever. maybe it does#this is all just 2 say that yes im aware how batshit insane i sound rn 4 some1 who hasnt even finished the story

Love ORV being forward with the idea of a person (and as a living being) not just being a story, but a story also being alive as well

KDJ growing horns and near constantly dying for the sake of his loved ones... I was going to say sacrificial lamb moments and then I remembered that lambs don't have horns
#orv.read#kicking a rock in frustration. walking away w my head down. brilliant imagery FOILED yet again thru semantics#i mean we can still make it work. if we believe hard enough. lambs r just the adol version of sheep

Characters with the compulsion to protect people far stronger than they are so good we need more of them. Hyunseong and Heewon are brilliant in this regard and not because they inherently believe KDJ to be weak or incapable of protecting himself (actually the opposite), they just can't stand the thought of him getting hurt or dying
#the irony of them wanting 2 protect some1 they technically cant bc hes willing 2 die 4 them & has put not just his life#but his entire existence on the line just 2 ensure their survival#theyre that precious 2 him. the undying devotion (lol lmao) goes both ways#anyways. grips them#orv.read

Well I'm breezing through these chapters and perhaps I could stand to slow down to focus on the smaller details, but I've still been giving myself ample time to pause and dissect the information that's been delivered to me, so potentially crazy theory under the cut
A major aspect of the tale that's been nagging me is the way in which the story POV focuses so heavily on Jonghyuk's 3rd regression. We are given a novel has (supposedly) sprang into reality and are specifically stuck on a regression that is not the first. We can't rule out the possibility of the worlds Jonghyuk regresses through being inherently interlinked, given the entire existence of 41st Shin Yoosung, meaning that were still three previous realities in which KDJ did not exist. That is far too suspicious to me, mind you, given the entire selling point of KDJ as a central/starting point and a constant factor due to him having previously existed in the 'real world.' There's also the currently (?) unresolved detail at the beginning of KDJ pondering over the pre-establishment of existing characters in the novel (ie. Lee Hyunsung is a character in a novel but nothing necessarily indicates that he materialized out of thin air, he's had a prior life enrolled in the military). I think there's been subtle details that point to the idea that KDJ's previous world was a fabricated reality and he's actually been apart of the novel all along in all the most literal senses. I don't think his previous possession of Three Ways to Survive a Ruined World completely cancels out this possibility, considering he is a character in a novel just as much as he is the reader. There's also, y'know. The main char's possession of an ability literally referred to as 'The Fourth Wall,' a literary device that protects a character from acknowledging the fact that they're a character in a story. KDJ is only able to read and understand himself as a character when he drops the fourth wall and ough... I wonder if there will come a time when it's broken entirely.
#it would also fit in nicely w the theme of 'a story w/in a story' yk#orv.read#maybe it will turn out this is the 1 thing i thought 2 hard abt but whooo knows

At the Paradise arc. There's this repeated emphasis on the notion of Paradise existing an "institution" that instills a false(?) sense of peace within its residents and how an establishment like that will never last.
KDJ initially confronts the king of Paradise but concedes that completing the scenario can't be achieved with a bloody one-on-one battle. His pause rests on practical reasons (the backlash he will receive from acting on his own will be too great) but he also acknowledges that victory lies within the residents themselves recognizing what is wrong with their present situation.
There's also the matter of the guards that enforce this false sense of peace within Paradise utilizing excessive force and brutality for the situations that least warrant it: petty crimes and protests.
#orv.read#perhaps im reading 2 much into it. or maybe im not. given what this story is however i doubt it

Many things to be said here about the concept of 'Good' and 'Evil,' especially as the way in which one categorizes stories (as further being representative of people's very lives) being an arbitrary criteria decided upon by the parties whom simply happen to wield the most power, and KDJ's company encapsulating the need to break free of that system.
