An Oswego-based contracting company with a long history of ignoring federal safety regulations has been cited by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration for exposing workers to deadly fall hazards at a construction site in Naperville last year. United Custom Homes faces $264,143 in penalties for violating occupational safety and health standards during a residential home job in south Naperville more than five months ago, according to OSHA. The federal agency issued the citation and accompanying penalties to United Custom Homes on Feb. 8. It’s the eighth time United Custom Homes’ has been cited for an OSHA infraction since 2015. In addition to penalties issued this month, United Custom Homes also currently owes $238,572 in unpaid OSHA penalties for previous violations. In total, United Custom Homes owes OSHA more than $500,000.

The Flat Rocks, Oswego NY

This rainy afternoon, we decided to take a short drive to visit The Flat Rocks located in Oswego NY. If you do not know where to look for them, you would never know where they are. Also called Sheldon Beach Park, the Flat Rocks are located on W 6th Ave (not to be confused with W 6th St) all the way down, at the dead end. The Oswego Power Plant is on one side and SUNY Oswego is on the other. Fishing is allowed but swimming is not. You can get out on the rocks and walk but be careful as the rocks are slippery. Most of the ice had melted as we have had a little December thaw so we were able to get out there and walk around. The limestone rocks that go out into Lake Ontario are absolutely stunning. We definitely needed hats and ear muffs as the wind was really whipping.

After, we headed to Riverwalk Coffee Roasters where we had the best Egg Nog Lattes I have ever had! So delicious!!! We also enjoyed some yummy muffins and were able to sit back and relax in a friendly and warm atmosphere.

Before we left Oswego, we stopped for lunch at Whacko Gringo. We each had some tacos; fish and pollo ascada and they were awesome! Each came with Spanish rice and black beans. The service was great and the food fantastic. The portions were very generous and the prices were very reasonable. We will definitely be back in the warm weather when we can sit outside.
