Looking for some more great writing blogs? Here are some that I like.

(I based this list on consistently helpful, practical content, posts that get the creative juices flowing, and an accessible, easy-to-use layout.)

General Writing Blogsbla

Lizard Is Writing: A new discovery for me, but REALLY well laid out and full of great posts!

She Who Fights and Writes: A bit of a mixed bag as far as content goes. Some of it is useful, others are just relatable writer’s feels.

Creative Writing Help: A good blog all-around. Excellent resource for practical writing help, such as grammar, when to explain your magic and when not to explain, and world-building.

The Right Writing: Full of practical advice not specific to any genre. I don’t spend nearly enough time with them!

Fiction Writing/Writers Rumble: When they post informational/instructional content, it’s very helpful. Mostly reblogs (not a bad thing!). A fair portion of the content is merely relatable, like funny comics or gifs.

Writer’s Handbook: *heart eyes*. A great resource for anyone who writes. Everything from screenwriting advice to story structure.

Writing Reference Slices: This one covers all the bases. Words of encouragement, useful tips, and infographics.

Some Writing Advice: “Here you can find prompts, advice, character development, and motivational pictures!”

Writing Prompts

Creative Writing Prompts: Exclusively prompts, but I am consistently inspired by them.

Writing Prompts: This is a great blog. My only issue with it is that it’s so popular, I see the writing prompts all over the internet. This means that, although they are a great blog, I rarely see new content there. I first see it on Pinterest, Instagram, etc.

Writing Prompt-s: Oh my. This is the golden chalice of supernatural/fantasy writing prompts. Original postings (although some may be submitted to them).

Story Shards: Great fantasy writing prompts. Original postings (although some may be submitted to them).

Yet More Writing Prompts: Mostly original prompts, and unique ones.

All of the Prompts: Not exclusively prompts, but some great fantasy/supernatural ones.

Unblocking Writers Block: Some really cool prompts on this one. Self-described as “1/3 useful ramblings, “1/3 writing prompts,” and “1/3 random theme/colors/font size changes.”

Face Claims/Casting

RPHelper: Not strictly speaking a writing blog, but very useful in helping you find a real face to base your character on. Complete with actors, singers, and varying ages, races, and ethnicities. I suggest the pages entitled “Old FC Directory” or “New FC Directory.”

Face Claim X Helper: Another great resource for casting. Not a directory, but complete with useful tags.

Bunch of Face Claims: Good for casting. Not a directory, but complete with useful tags.

Face Claim: Good for casting. You can search traits in the left-hand column (IE hair color, height, etc.)

Exquisite Face Claims: Not as user-friendly as a directory, but with some great inspirational photos.

Face Claim Directory: Another excellent directory, though I would recommend going straight to the tags page.

The Black RPC: An extensive resource, specifically and exclusively for Black face claims.

Angel Dust: A cool one, but it takes forever to load. You can search by multiple tags at once (IE Black woman, man with green eyes, non-binary person aged 20-29, etc.)

FC Directory: A bit more simplistic than Angel Dust’s, but useful.

Middle Eastern Face Claim: A great directory for any character of Middle Eastern descent.

Indigenous Face Claim: Specifically and exclusively lists indigenous peoples. By nation! (IE Adam Beach is listed as Saulteaux, not Native American/American Indian).

FYRP Face Claim: A good directory for finding POC. 

Period Face Claim: For characters from another time. (IE Medieval, 1950′s, etc.)

Face Claims of Color: Looking for more poc? Aren’t we all. Here is a face claim directory that has diverse faces.

Character Development

Writing With Color: LISTEN UP.  This blog is important. They’ve slowed down on content, but that doesn’t matter because they already have so much wonderful content. A great place for any writer looking to write about a race/ethnicity/sexuality/etc other than their own. Not to be used as your exclusive resource on the matter, of course, but still a great starting point.

Character Generators: Doesn’t make many new posts, but boasts a cool collection of click-and-drag generators.

F Yeah Character Development: Useful for character development, but difficult to read.

Writing Playlist: Looking for some tunes to write to? This gives some great suggestions. Not too active.

These are all blogs written specifically for the use of writers and are not meant to help you with real-life issues (I.E. ScriptSociology specifically states that they cannot help with real-life social work).
