Like AAAAAAAAAA I look at Sorachika, Don and Shikato's portraits in between PPPPPP's final chapters in the final volume and I'm so frustrated!
I really wanted to know where the story was going with them. I bet Sorachika "Death is the final unknown" + "favourite sibling's his brother's semi-dead alternate personality that spoke to him through a piano" Otogami would have had such an interesting arc. And Don and his fixation on understanding the composer's intent, was his encounter with Lucky going to result in him composing his own music? Or did Fanta and Shikato speedrun his arc in one chapter and was the conclusion always going to be "Maybe you don't need to understand". And Shikato!! What was up with Shikato!!! Always pasted onto Gakuon, visually the most similar to Gakuon except Shikato had that creepy grin, the only sibling not to meet Lucky at all (at least Don met Lucky off-screen at the funeral). Even in an early chapter when Mimin and Lucky were discussing what to do about telling the others about Chocho's illness their conclusion was "Shikato will not come". fuck wsj

PPPPPP - Ch.27
Thoughts on the latest Chapter 27 [Read chapter here]
Tumblr media
Other Appreciation for Week 4-8 April ‘22: 1. PPPPPP - Ch.27 (you are here) 2. Akane Banashi - Ch.8
---
So much stuff to think about in this chapter... We (I) got what we want, which is more of Melolin’s backstory, but at what cost? Lol.
Also what I thought before if this is traditional play vs freestyle, turns out to be more personal than that.
Tumblr media
So Melolin also plays like original Mimin, with her own twist. The difference being the distorted space vs fairies.
I like to note that her playing does not immediately bring her to number one. Like she narrates, she keeps her playing style, never give up on it until people beginning to accept her.
Tumblr media
I think it can also happen to Mimin; her style is considered new and different, and might be difficult penetrating ‘conservative’ world of piano in this story. Which is why she’s not immediately number one (and possible that her new technique also still needs development). But in Otogami Family, this is no excuse not to be, and that’s why Melolin is free and Mimin is not.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hmm... So basically, Mimin plays like she got an inspiration from the girl she likes, while Melolin feels her originality is snatched by a girl she helped?
Tumblr media
And when the mix does sounds better...well. Too bad that Melolin thinks this way and being harsh to herself, but I think lots of normal person will feel like this too.
Then, Melolin’s train of thoughts:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
That’s...interesting. The way she sees Mimin’s face as ‘bored and sick of it’ every time she plays with her distortion. And for her to think that this will lead to Mimin’s dislike of piano, Mimin’s downfall, and her return to number one.
...
But Mimin plays like this because in her own innocent way, she likes Melolin and how Melolin originally plays, doesn’t she?
Mimin said she wants Melolin to be free like she used to be. With being number one with this distortion style, it will give Melolin’s original play style a firmer recognition. Thus, Mimin thinks it will encourage Melolin to play like her past and “be free” again.
I don’t think, with that much dedication, Mimin can be easily overthrown. Since she really wants to “help” Melolin. But we’ll see.
---
What Melolin does though, is subjected herself to jealousy and vengeance, and not focusing on being happy with her own technique. She said it herself, she set away her “freedom” to pursue traditional only to get Mimin down.
...In the end, the one who will dislike piano here I think is Melolin.
She forgot that her true “freedom” is “confidence on being who she is”, not “being number one”.
Also, I wonder if ‘bored and sick’ face of Mimin is the result of Melolin’s own distortion due to her jealousy? What if Mimin doesn’t really look ‘bored’ but instead, for example, ‘genuinely focused’ (on her mission to save Melolin)?
...
Problems like this... If only they talk it out! But it won’t be an interesting story isn’t it? More fitting if they talk through their piano plays haha.
Tumblr media
I feel like Melolin is the true villain in Mimin’s arc.
However, we will see how Mapollo-san continue the story next week!

🎹 Mimin, Reijirou, Meloli, and Sadame from PPPPPP!  PPPPPP is my favorite series running in Shonen Jump right now, I love these funky traumatized piano kids
(I’ll draw Lucky one day... if I can ever figure out how to draw his hair...)

"Mom didn't die to make me sad" is such a poignant line. It's entirely fitting with Mimin's personality and character arc, but it is also a wonderful way of reframing the concept of grief. Mimin knows that her mother wanted all of the kids to be happy, so instead of wallowing in the grief of losing her mother she continues to embrace living life to make the most of it, but now with the added perspective of making sure that she's living a life that would make her mom happy.

{An Orchestra of Peace and Stars}
Meloli braids Mimin's hair as she plays piano, voicing musings of whatever comes to mind as she indulges in the fantasy brought to life by Mimin's idle playing. For @femslashfeb day 1, stars
Behind Mimin, Meloli stood, combing through the voluminous emerald waves splayed out before her. She encouraged tangles apart with the pass of her fingertips, while Mimin’s played the keys before her. Meloli marveled at how easily it came to the other girl, no plan in mind as to what to play, and yet so easily those absent digits found the notes of a familiar melody and still managed to make it her own.
Such was Mimin’s genius, she supposed, although this particular performance would likely win no awards, but she liked it more for the spontaneity that she’d come to appreciate of Mimin. The playful tune called forth the images of fairies playing in a forest, the trees with trunks so close together that their branches had grown woven together, and the tiny creatures flitted between and around them. It left such a powerful impression upon Meloli’s subconscious that she saw this scene before her very eyes. The fairies pranced and tumbled and rolled upon the piano keys instead of Mimin’s fingers; the accompaniment became their fleeting laughter.
Meloli stopped, hands still buried in Meloli’s hair. Her breath caught in her chest, held close to her heart as it beat in time to the fantasy of Meloli’s music.
