Trends in incidence of COVID 19 based on performed Rapid Antigen Test by Piratheepkumar. R in Journal of Clinical Case Reports Medical Images and Health Sciences

A 48-years-old healthy male was referred to our tertiary care center from an otorhinolaryngologist. The patient complained of odynophagia for the last 4 months, without any history of smoking nor chronic alcohol intake. A biopsy was performed and diagnosed chronic inflammation with fungal mycelia. Oral fluconazole did not bring any improvement.

Upon arrival, the examination shows some granular and erythematous pharyngeal lesions (Figure 1). A diagnostic work-up with local biopsies and serologies was done.

The PCR came back positive for Treponema pallidum (negative for herpes virus, chlamydia, and gonorrhea). Syphilis serologies were also positives (VDRL titer, 1:8; TPHA titer 20’480). The patient received one intra-muscular benzathine benzylpenicillin injection (2.4 million I.U.). The odynophagia and the lesions disappeared within 48 hours (Figure 2), without relapse for over two years.

Syphilis should be considered in every acute and chronic pharyngeal lesion, as oral sex may not be disclosed upon first medical consultation.

I want hearing aids so bad like

Ugh, I know there is plenty of HoH that don't use/never had hearing aids and that doesn't negate their hearing loss or their identity as HoH but I just feel like, not having hearing aids DOES negate it when it comes to me

That without them, I will always be in this limbo of hearing/hard of hearing, not being one nor the other

But at the same time, I don't know if they will even help me? Because I can hear. I can get by just fine, just having to ask a few times sometime to understand something. I wear personal sound amplifiers at university and they, sort of help? But I'm not so sure. They make everything -including the stuff I hear, and the stuff I don't want to hear- louder, which takes a little bit of anxiety out of me, and I don't have to concentrate so much on the hearing and can concentrate more on the understanding. But the sound quality is so so low and not very much clear.  And they make things worse for one-on-one conversations because the microphones are behind and so they pick up the background and not the voice of the person on front of me. But they are the cheapest that there are out there, and are very bad quality and I guess hearing aids are better? But people with hearing aids says they have the same difficulties and problems so I don't know...

And wearing hearing amplifiers it feels like, I don't know, cheating? Lying? It feels like I'm pretending. Anyone can buy and wear them and claim a hearing loss and be HoH. It just, amplifies the identity crisis and make me want to ve actual hearing aids so so bad even if the help it might give me be very little and maybe worthless money-wise

And I just, god I just WANT them. I want to give it a try. To hear and understand what is being say. Not to be hearing -but to have a less anxious life

And I won't lie, I want them so I can finally have some security on my identity

I often wonder how a doctor gets into a certain field of medicine. Family/general doctors/internists are one thing, but I wonder how someone decides to become an optometrist or an otorhinolaryngologist or dentist or proctologist or whatever specialty.

Is it "socially acceptable" to even ask? I'm so curious.

Good news is that I didn't die on my way to or from my appointment with an otorhinolaryngologist for my vertigo episodes. The bad news is my right ear has such poor hearing that rather than just diagnosing me with Meniere's and giving me a long-term script, he needs me to get an MRI done first to make sure I don't have a brain tumor or something. Incidentally, this will require me to remove my earrings for the first time, which is something I have so little faith in that I find myself unable to do it here and now.

Honestly, it's been so long since I had an episode that it's basically old news by now. By the time I saw this specialist after getting an appointment after getting a referral after seeing my primary doctor after getting an appointment with him, whatever this was is no longer a pressing issue. Either it's something that passed, or it's something that's been staved off by garden variety over-the-counter antihistamines for almost two months now. And this journey isn't even over yet, since I'll be following through provided I can go to the radiology lab near where I live. But by the time my insurance approves the procedure and I schedule the appointment and the date comes, another month will probably have passed. There's almost not even a point to it after so long. I think my end goal is to have it on paper that I have a condition that impedes driving, since my mom accepts that more readily than mental illness.

The doctor himself was excellent though. 5 star experience. I guess I'm old enough now that putting gout in my medical history doesn't make people bat an eye.

I would try with wearing your glasses again, and see if this dizziness settles down a bit. Otherwise I would recommend to see first of all your doctor and maybe then a specialist like a otorhinolaryngologist.
