In a local cat rescue group on fb

This week alone there have been several posts along the lines of:- someone put a collar on my cat, someone put cream on a scratch on my cat that was being treated by me, someone fed my diabetic cat, my cat got attacked by an unneutered male cat, my neighbour is angry at my for my cat pooing in their garden, my cat keeps bringing in dead birds what can I do??

Damn if only there was a really simple, easy, completely free and proven to work thing you could do that would literally solve all of these problems immediately and effectively, ah I guess we'll never solve them 🙄

How to properly take a cat outdoors: on a leash

Leonard is a retired mouser, aka he used to be a working farm cat who used to be used for the purpose of hunting down barn mice and rats. He was retired and given to me when I moved out to the city to keep my apartment rat and mouse free and i take him on enrichment walks in his little fluorescent vest and leash! I plan on also getting him a little baby Bjorn at some point albeit he is 22 lbs (about 10kg) so that may be hard. I used to be very pro outdoor cat but not so much now. Leonard lived a hard and dangerous life and was not good for the wildlife. He and all other animals deserve safety and proper conservation and care :) for advice of humane and safe mouse and rat population control that doesnt necessitate outdoor barn cats, dm me!

This beautiful picture has a sad underlying story. My roommate and I pulled over in a residential area and this cat ran up to our car. Flea collar but no identifying tags. It was like 20 degrees fahrenheit and the house he led us to no one was home. Our area doesn't have animal control or a local SPCA and it was a federal holiday so we had to leave him. The point of this is don't have outdoor cats and especially don't leave them out when you're gone.

something someone brought up on my outdoor cat post was how outdoor cat owners kinda just...don't take responsibility for their pets actions. There are many cats that roam around my neighborhood, and my dog gets riled up when he sees them through the window. If one were to wander into the yard while he happened to be outside, either on a leash or his tie out, I cannot promise the safety of that cat. Is that my fault? My dog is in my yard, on a leash, and supervised. The cat is not. I would feel TERRIBLE! Of course I don't want to see any cat get hurt. It is also not my fault, though, that someone refused to take proper care and responsibility over their pet. It makes me angry that someone would put me, the cat and themselves into that situation when it would be so much easier just to be a better cat owner.

I didn't know I needed to be a emotional support human to my cat that was taken out in a leash today for the first time ever. I literally just sat on a patch of grass with her and had her almost tying me up with the leash alone as she circled around me glued to my skin and nudged herself under my legs very very forcefully to cover herself. /Pos, lh
