your tags about mercy being one of the most complex characters- YES!!! theres a log in one of ana's gun inspection modes where it mentions how mercy DESPISED her healing magic/science being used for evil on the battlefield, and there's an ingame line of her saying "power boost working as envisioned!" and it just reminds me how she was lied to, forced unto the battlefield when in reality she just wanted to help people with her inventions and thats the only way they said she could do it. AGH. Hippocratic oath!!

Which is why I never seriously bought into Moicy (I get the hatefucking though) as a serious ship because realistically, Mercy would absolutely abhor Moira with every fiber of her being.

This is gonna be a really hot take for gay Overwatch-knowers, but. I preferred when Moira didn't exist as a character in the story and her whole selfish philosophy of 'progress at any cost' existed as Mercy's darker side. I was really interested in Mercy's 'holier than thou' demeanor (her battle uniform is an angel costume, for god's sake). I found it so interesting that Mercy was the one who turned Gabriel into Reaper (it was assumed canon until retconned by Moira). Or that Mercy "saved" Genji by installing ninja stars into his knuckles and turning his body into a killing machine (which is why, imo, I don't think Mercy would ever be in love with Genji. He'd be a constant reminder of the power she holds yet tries to ignore, the ways she's unbelievably fucked her patients up in the past. A reminder that she's not as good a person as others believe her to be). I'm personally really into the idea that Mercy has two sides in her: the side who truly cares about healing people and the side who's so full of hate and anger for the perceived enemy that she unconsciously fuels her rage into the people who rely on her. Turning people into living weapons to "fix" them and fight her battles. Reminder that she watched her parents walk out on her as a child to volunteer medical work for the Omnic Crisis, only for them to die and leave her orphaned and alone. Is she doing this to take care of people, or is she doing this to avenge her parents (the official site says it's only the former, but I think that's boring as fuck)? I think it can be both at the same time, but sometimes she prioritizes one motive over the other. I think the "angelic, cheery healer" is a persona she instinctively uses to veil her selfish motivations, to everyone and to herself. Reminder that she was also lauded as a savant, a prodigy, a teenage genius who literally revolutionized medical science before she could legally vote. You cannot expect me to believe that she's truly altruistic, that everything she does is for the betterment of humanity and out of the goodness of her heart.

I don't think she's a malicious person at all, just someone who doesn't want to admit she has ulterior motives.

Anyways, she's not actually this interesting in the game or the story.

After browsing genjis page on fandom wiki I came away with the impression he’s a silly little guy, a funny prankster gamer boy that just wants to hang out (at least before The Incident). I wonder how accurate that actually is lol

(upon being told he’s hard to aim at with a healing gun)” “lol just like old times! (when being resurrected by the doctor that saved his life after The Incident)”

I’m even willing to consider his sassy comments when killing an enemy hanzo (the one responsible for The Incident) are meant to show he’s playful since I hear he forgave him, though I’d also easily believe it’s just some anger that’s still there despite being over it so idk

Why are people shipping Ramyatta? Aren't they brothers?

The short answer: no. For the long answer, read on.

“Zenyatta and Ramattra call each other 'brother.'”

Zen and Ram are both former members of a monastic order. The Shambali call each other “brother” or “sister” as a sign of respect, endearment and unity within their religious community, just as they do within their monastic, real world counterparts.  How do I know this? Because Zen also calls several other characters his “brother” and “sister.”  On the Nepal map, Zen has a voiceline stating “I have not returned here for many years. I wonder if my brothers and sisters will be pleased to see me,” referring to the other Shambali.  Zen also shares a voiceline with Orisa when he uses the orb of harmony on her: “We are as one, my sister.” In OW2, he has voicelines with the robot on Push Missions: "Hello, brother. Come with us." And when the robot is taken by the enemy team: "The enemy has stolen away our friend."

Generally speaking, the word brother has more than one meaning. English has no word for a man to use in reference to another man who is more than a friend but not a lover. Brother has been used as stand-in in this context forever.

“The devs said they were brothers.”

The tweets and videos so far released by Blizzard have mentioned that Ram and Zen are “as close as” brothers. They have also referred to their relationship as a friendship.

“What about Mondatta?”

Mondatta is also not Zen’s brother (other than in a monastic sense, see above). The "name" Tekhartha is actually a title or honorific. This was confirmed in a 2018 forum post by former lead writer Michael Chu. 

“What about adopted/found family?”

Zen and Ram are robots. They were not born or raised together. When they met, they were functionally adults both making their ways in the world. This isn’t considered incest by any stretch of the imagination.

“I just prefer to view them as platonic/brothers, ok?”

You may of course have those HCs. I only ask that the same courtesy be extended to fans who prefer to view their relationship as romantic.

What did/do you like about Pharah?

Uh, gameplay-wise, I really love characters in shooters who rely on three-dimensional movement techs. Chaining together hover and jump to stay in the air for as long as possible and keep momentum is so satisfying, and picking enemies off from the sky made me feel like a bird of prey. I was a good Pharah main.

Story-wise, there unfortunately isn't much to canonically go off because Pharah is so underutilized and neglected. Her personality's pretty boilerplate "heroic hero" (she's literally inspired by Captain America).

But it's the crumbs/bits and pieces that I really latched onto. Pharah's a confirmed lesbian; her short story with Baptiste implies she harbors a crush on Mercy (fucking thank you.). She's biracial Egyptian/First Nations. She has major mommy issues, having grown up both admiring and resenting Ana. She's the bridge between Old Overwatch, inspired by the idealized heroes who surrounded her childhood, and New Overwatch. She's one of the only inter-generational characters in the cast; someone whose experiences span the gap, which is why I seriously believe Pharah would make a great main character.

There isn't much to go off of, though; she's a very uncomplicated character (she's a soldier for a private military corporation, lol.). But that just means she's a blank slate character, so I've seen fanfic writers run wild and create some really interesting takes on her. My favorite interpretation of her's a dense, herbo gym-bro type (a lot of her liens are about work outs, exercising, and playing sports) who's easily excitable under her seemingly self-serious, armored visage. We see how she tends to gloat and hype herself up when she's on a streak too, so Pharah definitely has a competitive and boastful side under her more professional and militant performance.

Now Mercy? Mercy is a real complex character.

I've talked about how there are voicelines I wish they had kept for Cassidy in the transition from OW1 to OW2, but there are also voicelines I am so happy they removed. Specifically ones like these;

There are a few more interactions like this but this is the main one, and the lines like this always rub me the wrong way. Like they feel borderline misogynistic even if that isn't the intention. Also in general this was out of character for Cassidy even before Ashe was introduced but definitely after.

Cause your telling me the man who was trained by Ana Amari, whose little sister is Fareeha Amari, the man who was second in command to Ashe, who is also implied to be close friends with Angela Ziegler, your telling me he'd "never shoot a lady"?

And I wish I could use this line as evidence that Cass knows something up with Widow other then her being a cold-blooded killer, but I can't, cause that's not what this is implying. It also just something Cole would never say?? It's so out of character when you know who he hangs out with and who has a big impact on him.

So yeah, I'm so glad this was a voiceline they removed.

One of the weirdest things with OW2 currently is Zenyatta’s utter lack of voicelines regarding Ramattra (and I mean this in the “How does he not have elimination-specific voicelines with him” way) other than his own conversations with him, like damn bro… Nothing to say about your dipshit cringe brother I guess. Fair enough.
