Pin Point Community-Savannah Georgia One mile wide, thirteen feet above sea level and eleven miles southeast of Savannah, on the Moon River is the small community of Pin Point. Get a glimpse of what it was like to” live off the water” where crabs and oysters were harvested. The Pin Point Museum pays tribute to the Gullah-Geechee people in what was once a oyster and crab packaging plant. Thank…

Good day with dad this weekend. Attended the Longbranch Improvement Club’s Super Sale, which is basically the biggest garage sale on the Key Peninsula, and then puttered around the cabin and had a hell of a good snack of oysters on the half shell. . . *** #goodliving #oysterharvest #oystersonthehalfshell #cabintime #keypeninsula #beachshack #thegreatescape #southsoundlife #longbranchwa #guenthercabin #pugetsound #nauticallife #lic #longbranchimprovementclub (at Filucy Bay, Puget Sound, WA) https://www.instagram.com/p/CcxvwHfL1GU/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Today is the last day of oyster harvesting season here in South Carolina, so we expect a scene like this from our deck. The salt marsh retreats with low tide and exposes acres and acres of oysters. As we walked the dogs through Oyster Landing, we spoke with some of the people preparing to go out this morning (and Roscoe volunteered to help eat the harvest).

WorldOysterDay - Aquaculture - nothing new - only been around since 300bc +/- Ancient China with Fish and Oysters, The Romans enjoyed Oysters so much they farmed and stocked Oysters from as far away as England! The French perfected growing and finishing techniques to “season and fatten the oyster” And when Europeans moved to NorthAmerican shores, OysterHarvest - tonging and farming techniques came with them. Today - long line “tide tumbling” perfects easy opening shells while creating fatty meats. And WeTheNorth - HardyOysterGrowers cut through up to 6’ of ice to bring in them Shells. - OysterGrowerAppreciation... #Shucking #Oyster #History #OysterGeek #SeaImp #ShuckerPaddy #WorldOysterDay #NationalOysterDay #FarmersFeedCities #OysterFarm #OceanWise (at Here, There and Everywhere...) https://www.instagram.com/p/B0yV2uiB-hx/?igshid=ddir4n319xa9
