stay here tonight.
Raoul let himself sink into the tall man’s embrace. Erik’s coldness should come off as uncomfortable but Raoul had always found it comforting. Besides, the warmth building up on his cheeks seemed to compensate for it. They were, after all, in his bedroom which was barely illuminated by the moonlight. Neither of them dared to turn the lights on as everyone else in the de Chagny household was already asleep. Furthermore, the two of them did not want to be bothered while they wished each other good night.
Raoul smiled to himself and recalled how they snuck in through his balcony just moments ago. He had spent the whole time giggling as the masked man carried him on his back. On the other hand, Erik complained about his breath tickling his ear. Raoul thought it adorable how Erik pretended to dislike it even though his ears and neck had already gone scarlet. This was their nightly routine but he did not pay it any mind. If he was being honest, it was anything but an inconvenience.

So I’ll go with 1, 15, 19, 20 & 24?
(Those are all amazing historical questions to ask a person I’m sorry I couldn’t choose just one 🥺😭)
Ah thank you so much for sending so many! ❤❤❤
1. Who is your favourite historical person?
Answered, but I’m going to answer it again with my current obsession, one Terence MacSwiney, aka Traolach Mac Swiney, aka the Lord Mayor of Cork who died on the 74th day of his hunger strike in Brixton Prison in 1920. A man who could not do a thing without being dramatic about it. He was just Like That. Was in an open prison in England in 1917 when he got married, and despite being a member of a very illegal organisation, the Irish Volunteers, he had a Volunteers uniform made up for himself and smuggled over by the bridesmaid. Despite the fact that it was a very hot June he turned up at his wedding wearing a huge overcoat, just so he could throw it off near the end of the ceremony and reveal his uniform. At his last court martial he defended himself, and literally stood up and declared the whole thing illegal because he was Lord Mayor of Cork and he didn’t recognise the power of the British Army in his jurisdiction. Instead of keeping him in an Irish prison like pretty much everybody else, he was shipped to England in case of a jailbreak attempt. Also made a speech in 1916, and when someone in the crowd accused the Irish Volunteers of not having enough guns and ammunition, he pulled a cartridge out of his pocket and was like “there’s more where that came from.” Published a newspaper that was suppressed by the British authorities and sold off his book collection to cover the cost of printing it. Also wrote 3 lovely poems about his baby daughter who he doted on, and refused to have her brought to see him when he was dying in case it traumatised her. I’m reading a book about him at the minute and I swear there was not a single member of his family who didn’t do things in the most dramatic fashion possible.
15. Were the history classes taught in an interesting way in your school/ college/ university? What would you do to improve them if you were the teacher / lecturer?
They were mostly interesting. At least they got me interested enough that I decided to study history at university. I am a history teacher now, and honestly the big way I’ve been improving things is bringing in *more* wild history tales, especially about some of the more forgotten figures. My history rambles have become Known and everyone seems to love them. Also I use *a lot* of historical photos and videos where I can, and I’m planning two classes for next week with some high quality clips in them. It’s one thing to read about this stuff in a textbook but it’s really another to actually see them, and actually seeing them tends to make the written stuff more interesting in my experience
19. Favourite historical book?
I have a whole collection of history books that I love, but my favourite which is an actual artefact in its own right is my copy of Casement’s Last Adventure by Robert Monteith. Finding a copy of it was an adventure of it’s own because it’s pretty rare, but it’s honestly stunning and a wonderful insight into what the period 1914-1917 was like from the perspective of someone who wasn’t one of the well-known players but who did play a key role. It’s both emotional and enjoyable and I love it
20. History crush?
So many of them but my always always fave is Noël Browne
24. Most underrated historical figure?
There are *loads* but right now I’m very fucking salty about the fact that Terence MacSwiney’s death had an international impact that resonated for decades, and yet we just kind of glossed over the fact that it happened in school and didn’t really talk about it. He’s been largely forgotten in his own country and that’s just not sitting right with me
Send me History Asks!

Hi, how do you know that the Corinthian is gay? Have a lovely day btw
Hello @pakocsmells .   Neil Gaiman once said The Corinthian is gay (The Sandman Companion) and in the first version of The Dreaming spin-off comics (which I didn’t really like anyway) he had a mortal boyfriend.  Keep in mind that was the second incarnation of The Corinthian, the one that was more loyal to Morpheus, less homicidal, and wept blood tears when Morpheus died.
