Up Above and Down Below Contributor(s): Valdivia, Paloma (Author) EAN: 9781926973395 Publisher: Owlkids Binding: Hardcover Copyright Date: 2012 Pub Date: August 14, 2012 Target Age Group: 04 to 06 Physical Info: 1.02 cms H x 22.1 cms L x 22.35 cms W (0.34 kgs) 32 pages Publisher Marketing: In the world, there are different kinds of people, opens Up Above and Down Below. On the top, they think the ones on the bottom are different. Down below they think the ones up above are different. But what if they turned themselves upside down? Would they find that they're all the same, except in a few small ways? Through award-winning translator Susan Ouriou, author-illustrator Paloma Valdivia explores this complex philosophical question and encourages young readers to appreciate the differences among people as well as their similarities. The short sentences and stylized, surreal illustrations will draw readers into the whimsical worlds of up above and down below, delighting and enlightening them as they complete their tour.

I definitely cried when I read this to my little girl. This adorable bilingual picture book is about mom's and their babies, and how despite their growth and change, kids will always find themselves back to their mom's. It's sweet, and a perfect mom gift (if you're still looking for one 😉). I'm very thankful to @turnthepagetours for letting me participate in this tour, and @randomhousekids for sending me this gorgeous book! We're also giving away a copy of the book over on the blog side of the book tour, make sure to check out my blog post to find out how to enter! Link in my bio! Nosotros Means Us Blog Tour
Tumblr media
One of my favorite things about being a children's librarian is getting to peek at new and upcoming picture books, and in this case, I get to review this beautiful picture book for the Nosotros Means Us Blog Tour hosted by Turn the Page Tours! Make sure to stick around to the end because we're giving away a copy and you don't want to miss out on this one!
Book Title: Nosotros Means Us
Author: Paloma Valdivia
Publisher: Alfred A. Knopf Books for Young Readers
Book Description:
A moving bilingual ode to the unshakeable bond between a parent and child in the tradition of Runaway Bunny and The Wonderful Things You Will Be .
If I were a sheep, you would be a lamb.
If I were a bear, you would be a cub.
As a mother holds her toddler, they muse over the way their love would translate if they were different animals. But no matter how they change, they will always be "us." This bilingual story is a timeless ode to the unshakable bond between parent and child.

Review:
Some of you might know that I recently had a baby girl back in April, and this was just the perfect book to receive before mother's day. Although my baby is just a newborn, my spouse and I read this book to her, him reading the English and me reading the Spanish bits. Let me just say, that as a new mom (with a loooooot of hormones), I finished this book in tears.
It's a book full of heart. The illustrations are so sweet and everything is beautifully depicted. The translation is very well done, and I honestly have nothing but love for the fact that there are stories like this out there. I can't wait to return to read this book over and over again with my daughter once she starts being a little more aware. This a book that you can start a tradition with, that you can read with your little one every mother's day, or just because. This is a 5/5 stars for me!
