Enhance Your Home's Elegance with Hardwood Flooring in Atlanta
In the realm of interior design, few elements possess the timeless allure and enduring charm of hardwood flooring. In Atlanta, a city renowned for its blend of contemporary style and Southern sophistication, hardwood floors stand as a hallmark of classic elegance. Whether adorning a historic Victorian home in Inman Park or gracing a modern loft in Midtown, hardwood flooring atlanta is more than just a surface—it's a statement of refinement and taste.
Tumblr media
One of the defining features of hardwood flooring is its versatility. From the rich warmth of oak to the luxurious beauty of walnut, homeowners in Atlanta have a plethora of options to complement their unique aesthetic preferences. Each species of wood offers distinct characteristics in terms of grain pattern, color variation, and durability, allowing residents to tailor their flooring choice to suit their individual style and lifestyle needs.
Beyond its aesthetic appeal, hardwood flooring in Atlanta provides practical benefits that contribute to the overall value and comfort of a home. Unlike carpeting, which can trap allergens and require frequent cleaning, hardwood floors offer hypoallergenic properties and are easy to maintain. With regular sweeping and occasional polishing, hardwood flooring retains its luster and beauty for decades, making it a cost-effective investment for homeowners seeking long-term durability.
Moreover, hardwood flooring enhances the acoustics of a space, minimizing echoes and creating a warm ambiance conducive to relaxation and socializing. In Atlanta, where homes often serve as venues for lively gatherings and intimate soirées, the acoustical properties of hardwood flooring contribute to the creation of inviting environments that foster connection and conviviality.
In addition to its aesthetic and practical advantages, hardwood flooring adds significant value to residential properties in Atlanta. According to real estate experts, homes with hardwood floors typically command higher resale prices and spend less time on the market compared to those with alternative flooring materials. In a competitive housing market like Atlanta's, where buyers prioritize quality and craftsmanship, hardwood flooring serves as a compelling selling point that sets a property apart from the rest.
For homeowners contemplating a renovation or new construction project in Atlanta, selecting the right hardwood flooring provider is paramount to achieving the desired results. Fortunately, the city boasts a myriad of reputable flooring companies that specialize in hardwood installation, restoration, and maintenance. These professionals possess the expertise and industry knowledge to guide clients through the selection process, ensuring that their flooring choice aligns with their vision and budget.
Furthermore, many hardwood flooring providers in Atlanta offer customizable solutions tailored to the unique specifications of each project. Whether it's intricate parquet patterns, wide-plank planks, or eco-friendly finishes, homeowners can collaborate with experienced craftsmen to create bespoke flooring designs that reflect their personal style and preferences.
hardwood flooring in Atlanta transcends mere functionality to become a symbol of sophistication and refinement. Its timeless appeal, coupled with its practical benefits and investment value, makes it the flooring material of choice for discerning homeowners seeking to elevate their living spaces. By partnering with reputable hardwood flooring providers in the city, residents can transform their houses into havens of elegance and charm that stand the test of time.

oh my god oh my god please give more blind kaito im literally crying?? i wanna see him in Action
Oh my goodness, I tried my best! I hope it’s alright, I switched up the perspectives for this one! Thank you so much for asking, I had fun getting back to this!
Part 3
A tone sounded in Kaito’s ear, then the soft, barely perceptible tick of the seconds left behind before his performance began. He crouched in the grate, elbow braced against the side and kept his breathing even while he ran over what needed to happen in the next few seconds. He’d cut it close this time, leaving himself only nine hours to figure everything out fully and then to memorize it all as well. But if nothing else, tonight would bring a victory one way or another, with the added challenge of Hakuba’s close scrutiny focused on his every move it would make the exhilaration of escape even sweeter, and perhaps temper the disappointment the Ballerina’s Ballad would likely bring.
The thought of Hakuba made him settle, which was a betrayal to his thief’s sensibilities if there ever was one. As soon as he’d heard of the detective joining their class he’d expected it to be the perfect way to spy on one of his accomplished pursuers in close quarters, but then Hakuba had to go and be so damn polite, and yet so sharp at the same time. Sharp enough to cut through any pretenses Kaito feigned at for every hazard and barb he put before Hakuba, and sharp enough to consider something no one else, not even the most crazy fans, had ever considered: that Kaito KID, the elusive moonlit phantom, might be blind.
And that first accusation had sent his heart racing, not least because of the tone Hakuba had used, so determined and passionate about the truth of his conclusion, that Kaito had fought to keep his poker face instead of letting his smile melt into something more touched. From there, it had just kept going. The need to pull Hakuba careening towards him, testing whether it had been just a momentary delusion or something real, and then the date he’d never expected to be asked on, it was all good fun until he’d realized that in the process of trying to trip Hakuba up, he’d been swept off his own feet. He didn’t miss how Hakuba’s touch sent a shiver through him, nor the genuine excitement over the suggestion of dancing with him—hell, he’d even used the sound of Hakuba’s watch ticking as the audio for his countdown. He was well and truly caught, in one definition of the word and he had a feeling it wouldn’t be too long until Hakuba caught him out in another way too. But he was willing to play with fire, to feel the warmth that came from being near him and with him.
The last ten seconds started and Kaito tensed, laying his hands on the cold metal in readiness and wishing fingerless gloves went better with his top-hat and cape. In the beginning, he’d worn the gloves his father had, but with so much of what he did reliant on touch, it was best not to forgo that sense on top of everything else.
Three…
Two…
One…
Kaito flung himself into the darkness that descended on the ballroom outside his post, a wide grin spreading across his face as he heard the startled yells of alarm and the call for flashlights went up in Nakamori’s familiar boom. From the edge of the grate, it took only four long strides for him to reach the corner of the platform and another two steps along it to reach the first square that had to be triggered.
He had to hand it to the police squad, or more accurately, the ballet director, for thinking up this kind of security instead of a conventional method of lock and key. It had certainly required more than his usual methods to ascertain the combination, but trust Nakamori to be willing to show him the way with a conveniently placed positioning tracker. Aoko’s father had never been one to forgo asking his opinion in times of quandary and the physicality of Nakamori’s fondness was one he’d always appreciated. Taking advantage of it had given him just the slightest tinge of guilt, considering how much it meant when only his mother’s voice reached him from overseas, but for the sake of his goal, he’d brushed the reticence aside.
As for the sequence, after memorizing the dimensions of so many floor plans and furniture layouts, both for heists and for general school use, it was simply a matter of practice before he could have completed the steps in his sleep. He’d spent the last few hours of his preparation running through it over and over again on the floor of the lair, making sure he didn’t hit the bounds or overshoot his trajectory on the jumps.
Just as he heard the lights click back on, he reached the display case and was greeted by one of the best sounds in the world: the gasps of the task force as they realized he already had the jewel in hand. It was a true pleasure to catch them off-kilter, even when he’d specifically warned them ahead of time, there was just a thrill to it.
“KID!” And that voice, Hakuba’s yell that only made his grin grow wider as he tipped his hat in the direction it had come from. “Stop right there!”
“You underestimated my dancing prowess I see, but a magician should be as good with his feet as he is with his hands.”
He froze in the center pretending to admire the shine of the beryl as he held it up to the newly restored light, instead listening to the sound of the approaching rush of guards and estimating just how far away they were. As soon as the first officer’s footstep changed tone, from the dull thud on polished wood to the sharp clap on the dance parquet, Kaito braced his leg on top of the case and jumped.
His already upraised hand sprouted a grapple that snaked up to snag on the smooth ceiling, pulling him aloft at the apex of his jump and swinging him towards the door he’d marked ahead of time for an easier exit. The pile of officers that had doubtless formed behind him shouted and swore but the trap that they had so expertly set for him had sprung on them instead.
He knew his next moves down to the inch: the door was exactly forty-five feet from the parquet, a small lobby beyond fifteen feet wide with couches arranged in a diamond pattern leaving a clean route straight through to another door twenty feet ahead opening onto a corridor. From there it would be a simple escape through a side entrance fifty feet to the right. Anyone who found him outside the building would be treated to a frail old man hobbling along on his walker.
Confident in his path, he slid along the waxed floor when he landed and held out a hand to tap the door as he passed, starting the stride count in his head. Three feet, six feet, ni—his elbow caught the edge of something as he passed through the middle of the lobby, a pedestal he didn’t remember from his orientation of the room. It shouldn’t have been there, he wasn’t one to miss something so obviously in his path and he’d certainly made his rounds thoroughly that afternoon. Nevertheless, it had been in his way and he should’ve been able to avoid it. He twisted, hands finding the edge of the pedestal and searching for something to grab and right into place but whatever had been on it smashed to the floor a second later, the pieces raining over his shoes and the pristine tiles.
“KID?” Hakuba’s voice sounded from far too close, somewhere to his left and Kaito startled, a shard of the mystery object crunching under his feet. He didn’t have any time to dwell on this, Hakuba was already a liability from having too many suspicions, there was no reason to give him an opportunity to have any more. Orienting himself again with a swift pivot of the heel, he raced for the corridor again, tossing a pair of smoke bombs behind him as a parting gift.
A few seconds later, he’d divested himself of his cape and hat, donning the sweater vest and loafers of his disguise and the fire escape opened under his hands quietly and easily. He stepped into the crisp night air to let himself blend into the audience of onlookers congregated near the front of the building, the gem heavy in his pocket, waiting with possibility. But despite the success of the evening, the thought still kept coming back to him, unbidden and unnerving: how much had Hakuba seen?

Residenza Q in Abruzzo
22 Nov 2020
Residenza Q
Design: Architect Valeria Aretusi
Location: Abruzzo, Italy
In Abruzzo, halfway between sea and olive trees, a ruin had been transformed by architect Valeria Aretusi into a villa with a clean and Nordic design, flooded with light and blue, fragrant of wood and salt.
“To me, Residenza Q is the scent of wood, the emotion of blue and the balance of form, all overlooking the sea”.
“An organic dialogue between inside and outside, the villa and the surrounding landscape, the olive trees, the hill, the Adriatic Sea”.
“In this project I combined the geometric and neat design of Northern Europe, which I am fascinated by, with a touch of Morocco, coming to life in a small and secluded conservatory as an homage to the Majorelle Garden, which the owners would have loved to bring back from their travels”. Arch. Valeria Aretusi
Residenza Q is a villa surrounded by olive trees on the hills of Abruzzo, resulting from the demolition and enlargement of a ruin located on top of a hill overlooking the sea, on the slopes of the village of Montepagano.
Q is the letter chosen by the architect Valeria Aretusi for the owners: the master pastry chefs of the Ferretti family. The Q represents a closed nucleus, symbol of the house, with a descending curve which simulates the incline that leads to the coast, since the house was built on a soft hill facing the Adriatic Sea.
A project with minimal architecture, Scandinavian style and a solid eco-sustainable foundation, which has an area of 120 square meters for each of the two floors. The ground floor of the module on the southern side consists of a living room with fireplace, kitchen, study room, utility room and bathroom, while the attic houses two bedrooms with private bathrooms and a solarium. The module on the northern side, instead, is a large open space with attic, bedroom, bathroom and solarium.
Residenza Q has a gabled roof which – shifting on the main ridge axis – allows the two units a staggered placement. This choice gives privacy to each of the modules, thus maintaining the identity of a single dwelling surrounded by greenery.
The clean and geometric design, reminiscent of Danish and Norwegian homes, is surprising for the warmth of its interiors, thanks to the use of wood, the exposed beams in the sleeping area and the window/floor surface ratio. The front door frames the sea, the first element in perspective that can be perceived as soon as you enter. The windows are designed to have specific points of view towards the outside and the surrounding nature, without visually interfering with pedestrians, cars and the property nearby. To enhance privacy and give color to the light of the interiors, the architect created a conservatory with coarse-grained blue plaster, inspired by the Majorelle garden in Marrakech. The courtyard of the conservatory – rich in succulent plants – is overlooked by large rough-cut wooden beams, designed to filter daylight without obscuring it. Here the inspiration comes from Luis Barragàn: from the blue courtyard the light flows through the interiors acquiring a new dimension, creating a state of mind.
The rhythm of the façades is marked by the verticality of the cladding staves, and interspersed with the free positioning of windows and French windows. On the east façade, instead, there is a return to geometry, thanks to a couple of specular sliding windows, of about 8 meters each, facing the sea.
The structure has a linear shape with two pitches that converge with the perimeter walls, without overhangs, thus respecting the minimal style of the project. The roof is covered with matte grey sheet metal with a retractable rainwater collector. The same invisible system was also used for the terraces.
The eco-sustainable approach of the building is highlighted by the use of the biological system with aerated percolation: a purification system that allows to transform and recover water for the irrigation of the garden and vegetable garden. Moreover, the residence is realised with ecological materials and technologies – X-Lam wood structure, covered in Déco – and both internally and externally uses shades of a grey palette. The external covering is vertically assembled to match the linearity of the project, while the grey tones on the wood grain are used to enhance the texture of the construction. The variation of the sunlight affects the perception of the color on the surfaces, according to a chromatic range that goes from dark tones to dove grey and light grey.
The material used for the exterior is a natural composite wood – WPC (wood polymer composite) – assembled as a ventilated wall: an effective coating to solve the problems related to the protection of buildings from humidity and atmospheric agents, while improving the thermal and acoustic insulation.
If the exterior has a compact and monolithic appearance, the materials chosen for the interiors give warmth to the setting: natural larch wood and umber oak wood, glazed brass details, mud flat lacquered carpentry, terrazzo effect quartz tops and herringbone oak parquet.
The kitchen, which naturally develops from the living room, is the space that best emphasises the harmony between the house and the nature of the surrounding environment: the conservatory is, in fact, fully integrated structurally and visually in this room.
For the back wall of the kitchen, moreover, a smoked reflective background in a bronze tone has been chosen to evoke the gleaming sun on the sea, while the blue Majorelle of the winter garden, in Moroccan style, creates a dialogue with the view of the Adriatic Sea.
The staircase, made of anthracite-colored bent iron sheets, is light and veiled by the wall of cross perforated sheet. The velvets in primary colors which embellish the interior were also used for the restoration of Chiavari chairs in wood and brass.
The interiors of the house also boast prestigious names: Ernestomeda’s kitchen, specially designed for this villa, is Riflessi Mare on a Bavuso design model, the wallpapers are by Cole & Son and Gucci, while the fabrics are by Morris & Co. and Gastón y Daniela.
Residenza Q in Abruzzo, Italy – Building Information
Project: Architect Valeria Aretusi Location: Roseto degli Abruzzi (Teramo), Piana Grande area Property: Ferretti family – (owners of the historical Ferretti Pastry Shop, Academy of Italian Master Pastry Chefs)
About Valeria Aretusi Valeria Aretusi – born in 1983 – is an architect with a penchant for wooden houses and vertical gardens. She lives between Livorno and Abruzzo, working all over the Italian territory. She trained in Rome and Paris, where she studied architecture while starting a career as a DJ at the same time. She worked for several years with the Claudio Nardi Architects studio in Florence, dealing mainly with retail, residences and large-scale commissions. She currently focuses her work on private projects related to eco-sustainable wooden houses and renovations of apartments and houses in Nordic style, with a particular attention to the past and memory through the recovery of abandoned urban and architectural spaces.
In 2017 she founded the street art gallery Uovo alla Pop in Livorno, a dynamic exhibition space and home of her personal studio. She is the curator of the settings and installations of the gallery. Moreover, with the rest of the team she creates educational projects and public art initiatives aimed at urban regeneration, by merging art and architecture.
Respecting nature – and connecting to it – is essential for Valeria’s work, having the mission to lead the client towards this research. Therefore, in her projects we find great attention to the use of light or the development of vertical gardens for those who live in small spaces.

like a river
relationship: hanamaki takahiro / matsukawa issei
word count: 2,323
tags: friends to lovers, love confessions, getting together, minor iwaoi.
“Is that a confession? Are you actually confessing to me right now?”
“Hm. Yeah.”
Or, they still have a lot to learn (and maybe that’s the thing about being together).
@matsuhanasweek - day 1: music//relationship goals
[ao3] / read below
Being around Matsukawa is a sort of river-like peace.
This is what Takahiro tells him when another morning practice devolves into some dramatic coupledom dispute. Just the usual, really, between two childhood friends so in tune with each other’s subtlest gestures they’ve forgotten how direct communication works. Iwaizumi and Oikawa continue on with their bickering, and even the first-years (read: everyone sans Kindaichi) know it’s simply thinly-disguised flirting, volleyballs thrown at each other in lieu of love letters. (Because of course their language of love involves volleyball.)
If they were strangers, he’d think Matsukawa had just noticed his presence from the way he slowly blinks at him. But his friend is caught slightly off-guard, eyes widening by mere millimeters, before he gives up an amused smile.
“Why so?” Matsukawa simply asks.
Takahiro shrugs. He hasn’t exactly dwelled on such things. “This is chaos,” he says, right as Kunimi sidesteps a stray missile and Kindaichi ends up taking the brunt of it, his yelp joining the Iwaizumi-Oikawa chorus. “Yet here you are, all unbothered, going on with practice drills.”
“Aren’t you the same, though?”
Well, I only feel this way around you. “Kindred spirits.” Takahiro grins. “They’re idiots and we’re the calm, sensible senpai.”
“They’re our idiots,” Matsukawa corrects.
As they gaze on like seasoned birdwatchers, far too used to such a show, Iwaizumi marches toward his other half. He grabs Oikawa by the collar of his shirt, yanks him down to eye-level, and ends it all with a gentle kiss on the cheek.
Oikawa’s face goes aflame. Iwaizumi’s hiding his. Peace restored.
Matsukawa hums—and even that, Takahiro thinks, sounds like a river, when it’s quiet and you wait by the banks for nothing in particular, the water in no hurry to surge. “Still,” he drawls, bouncing his volleyball against the parquet a couple of times, “they’re relationship goals—and I can’t believe I said that, wow. But, well. Do you think we’ll ever become like that?”
Takahiro quirks a brow (as much as there is to quirk, anyway). “Is that a confession? Are you actually confessing to me right now?”
“Hm. Yeah.”
Oikawa drapes himself over Iwaizumi, wailing about how their sweet, evil Yahaba is bullying him, all the while sporting the look of a proud senpai. On the court, Yahaba turns to graciously help a reserve player hone their serves, Watari whistling a new anime’s soundtrack as he dives for perfect receives. Kyoutani makes a constipated face, like he’s thinking to follow Iwaizumi’s example and hurl the ball he’s strangling at either Yahaba or their captain.
What a beautiful morning.
“I refuse to become like our idiots,” Takahiro says. “That’d be weird.”
At this, Matsukawa hums again. Higher in pitch, cut short. He does not look at Takahiro.
So Takahiro watches him. How his head, always a tangle of messy black curls, tilts downward as he tests the volleyball several more times, when he’s never had such a routine before a serve. The way his semi-permanent pout is thinner now, a sign he’s been gnawing at his lower lip—just the inside of it so most observers wouldn’t notice. The pink dusting the tip of his ears.
It takes a lot to embarrass Matsukawa Issei.
(Does Hanamaki Takahiro mean a lot to you?)
And because Takahiro has much less bravado than he plasters on, and crushes on best friends are never his forte despite all the innuendos he’s contributed for the two squabbling love birds, he just tells Matsukawa get a service ace this time or he’d owe him lunch otherwise. Then he heaves in a breath for his own confession.
“We’re not them, Oikawa and Iwaizumi. Firstly, that’s kinda insulting, because we’re way smarter and less oblivious. Secondly…” He bends down to pick up a ball off of the floor, and swears to himself it’s not an excuse to hide reddened cheeks. “Why?”
“Maybe we’ve still got a lot to learn,” Matsukawa answers. “Whether it’s from our idiots in love or not.”
Matsukawa’s jump serve is excellent, though it’s not quite the service ace yet. He promises Takahiro a profiterole from his favorite bakery on their way home.
“So.”
“So?”
At the library’s most secluded corner, Takahiro finds Matsukawa lounging against the Dictionaries & Indexes shelves, a well-read paperback open on his lap and earphones turned medium-low for conversations. He goes to sit beside him, bending his legs at the knees to respect the shelves in front of them (because Matsukawa actually likes books). They lean close enough to bump shoulders as usual.
He plucks one earbud from Matsukawa, settles it in his own ear, and recognizes the current song from Matsukawa’s Study playlist. “How does this work?”
Matsukawa gives a hum. “The wires are connected to this cute little thing here—”
“You ass.” Through gaps between some books, Takahiro makes sure the librarian is still immersed in her YouTube videos, grateful for his near perfect eyesight, and reaches into Matsukawa’s sweater to retrieve his Pocky. (Vanilla flavor, like cream puffs. Matsukawa guessed his favorite.) He presses two hundred-yen coins onto Matsukawa’s already open palm. “You know what I meant.”
“I have an excellent ass, but I’m a bit hurt if that’s all you think of me.”
“You have a great ass. Very appreciable.”
“Why, thank you. I’d say yours is a work of art as well.”
“Speaking of asses, though,” Takahiro prompts, past any thoughts ofMatsukawa changing in the club room andMatsukawa and him checking each other out in the club room (and, gods forbid—did he notice Takahiro had faint but still embarrassing acne scars all over his back?). He distracts himself by concentrating on opening his Pocky as quietly aggressive as possible. “Where’re the duo? They ditched us on lunch. And here we are now.”
“They’re making out in the closet near class 3-6,” Matsukawa says like it’s old news, flipping over to the next page. “Still releasing pent-up sexual frustration from years of mutual pining and miscommunication, probably.”
“And how did you know this?”
Matsukawa stares at him, all serious and wounded. “I’ve been scarred for life, Hanamaki.”
“Ah, young love,” Takahiro offers in condolences, following it up with a grin and a bite of vanilla Pocky. He digs out a second biscuit, flourishes it for Matsukawa like a magician’s wand, and lets go as Matsukawa closes his teeth on one end, leaving him fumbling to save it from the unsanitary floor. He laughs, because Matsukawa’s forced to make such ridiculous faces while he’s at it.
“Oh, like you can do any better.”
“The key is in the suction,” Takahiro explains. And demonstrate. “You don’t bite—you suck.”
Matsukawa coughs so loud they have to take cover from the disgruntled librarian.
“But seriously,” Takahiro brings around the topic again, when they’ve deemed the situation safe, crisis averted. “How will this change things?”
“‘How will it change things?’” Matsukawa echoes his question. He hums thoughtfully. “I guess we’ll make bento for each other.”
“I knew you only want me for my amazing homemade meals.”
“I do love your cooking.”
“That’s so cheesy, gods. And I am not your waifu,” Takahiro scolds. “Besides, that’s not much different than what we’re doing all the time.”
“Does it have to be different?” Matsukawa asks. “Can’t we just do what we’ve always done if it makes us happy?”
“Oh.”
“I know I wanted to confess to you for a long while, and that I was just—really happy, when you accepted, and I still am. I know I want us together, whatever it means, from doing things together or just a state of being. Maybe we have time to figure it out.”
Matsukawa tips his head to see him, curls pressed and splayed against the shelves. Takahiro itches to card his hand through it. Something more than the usual tousle. “Is that okay?”
“Yeah,” Takahiro just says back, past the one year of high school they have left, the separate colleges (if they even do go), and different cities and whatnots that’d come after. “We’re okay.”
Maybe, for them, this isn’t some border to cross. Have you heard the thing they say about falling? Slowly, slowly, and there might not be a need to crashland, to have a revelation, or an epiphany. The sun still rises and sets, stars die out and are reborn, and they take the train to school together (and maybe, just maybe, Takahiro would cook Matsukawa some snacks now and then), because they’re neither a step up nor a step down.
“And,” Takahiro continues, finishing the snack in hand and wondering if it’s horribly cheesy to think of it as an indirect kiss, “I thought about kissing you. For a long while.”
“Thought? Past tense?”
He grins. “We can kiss now, can’t we?”
(“Oh, my gods,” Takahiro whispers as they part, just the slightest bit breathless, clutching at Matsukawa’s earphones. “What’s this song? Why are we having our first kiss to this song?!”
Matsukawa just laughs, even as Takahiro hisses, half-laughing as well, that this is ridiculous.
The librarian does find them, then.
It’s more than worth the detention.)
“Reltinsiph golsh.”
“You look like a chipmunk, only less cute and more hilarious.”
Takahiro swallows the final bite of profiterole. “I’m offended you’d think a chipmunk is cuter than me. Go date a chipmunk, then.”
“Don’t worry, dear. None of them are as enjoyable to insult. Or to insult other people with.” Matsukawa chuckles, the sound of it somehow a matching rhythm to the languid flow of the river they’re crossing. Suburban stars glimmer on the water, wavering by the small ripples. “But you were saying?”
“Relationship goals,” repeats Takahiro. “You said that about Oikawa and Iwaizumi.”
“Yeah?”
“What made you say that?”
Off the bridge, they take a turn and walk parallel along the river. Street lamps and corner shops still open for the evening cast their shadows, larger than life, and Takahiro has the strangest urge to chase them and tug Matsukawa along. Strange, because normally he’d rather walk with them, one unhurried step at a time, and take the ambience in as he goes.
He thinks Matsukawa might like it this way as well. Always with a pace neither too fast nor too slow, despite those long legs of his—neither rushing nor stagnant, like this river they’re passing by, but something they both can settle in.
(But maybe love just makes you want to run, scream, holler like nothing else.)
“It’s just something about them,” Matsukawa says. “Though I’m not saying it’s a universal thing.”
Takahiro gasps. “Matsukawa, I didn’t know you were a romantic.”
“Really, all those novels I read didn’t give you a hint?”
“You read, like, philosophical stuff. Existential crises-inducing stuff.”
“Hm. I don’t know. Wouldn’t love be kinda like that?”
Takahiro jostles their shoulders together, if only because he doesn’t exactly know yet what to decide of that, and grins at the way Matsukawa indulges him by swaying with the motion. “Is that what you want? The way Oikawa and Iwaizumi are lovey-dovey with each other?”
“You said it yourself that we aren’t them,” Matsukawa points out. “I think we both know what we want, but it’s the how that’s a bit of uncharted territory.”
“We kissed. I’m pretty sure of the order of things after that.”
This is when Takahiro discovers that Matsukawa Issei has dimples, as the other boy’s laugh bursts at the seams. He thinks this is one of those changes, that they might come in small ways, intimate ways. I just hadn’t been looking close enough—and he wonders how such an infinitesimal part of Matsukawa could make him so damn happy. (Wipe that dumbstruck grin off your face, Takahiro, or you’ll never hear the end of it.)
“So, what, you want to try doing the things they do?”
Matsukawa smirks. He leans in to bring down the three centimeters gap, his breaths soft on Takahiro’s ear and voice rich like none other. “Wanna make out in the school’s closets?”
When the inside of his chest goes all fluttery, Takahiro refuses to pin it on butterflies. “Sometimes I wonder which one of us has the dirtier mind.” With a shake of his head, his own smirk abound, he lets his hands find solace from the evening chill in the pockets of his Aoba Johsai pants, and the rest of him by narrowing the proximity with Matsukawa. Their elbows jab at one another’s side as they walk, but neither of them widen this newfound distance. “But, you know what I mean.”
“It’s the little things,” Matsukawa muses. “Holding pinkies together on the walk from school, feeding each other their lunch. Sharing earphones when their tastes in music is pretty much the opposite.”
“Matsukawa,” Takahiro says, deliberately, and stares at his friend-turned-something all scandalized. “Either you’re one perceptive bastard or you’ve been stalking them, because that’s one creepy observation.”
“You’re too risqué to have the right to judge, and it’s not like they’re even trying to hide it. I don’t think they even realize it.”
“Why don’t we make a list?” Takahiro proposes. They’re almost at the crossroad, where they’ll go their respective way home. “We could call it Things To Try—just try, because I’d like to make ours by ourselves.”
“Gods, no.” Matsukawa laughs. “That’s so cringey. I’m cringing so hard.”
“You love me, anyway.”
When they reach the intersection, the sky no longer darkening and the limelight of nearby lampposts missing them by a breadth (but it’s not like they feel the need to be supernovas, anyway), Takahiro offers Matsukawa a grin. He links their littlest fingers together, dares a brush of lips against dimpled cheeks, and gets him right back for the flusters.
“Here’s one for our list, then.”
Why the all caps lol THINGS TO TRY AN ONGOING LIST BY HANAMAKI TAKAHIRO & MATSUKAWA ISSEI I live for all caps fuck you

My house had termites. They ate a board and a half from my floor and maybe a door sill.
They are gone. However, they did more than eat a board. They got me thinking about my house and if I really cared that much about it or not. It’s on a street that is sometimes busy. This little town of mine only has a few cross streets and Main Street is one of them. It’s poor planning for sure. Sometimes I have to wait a thirty seconds to pull out of my driveway.
So the question was, did I want to put money into this house? I decided that I did. I like where it is. I can walk to work. I can walk to town. In fact, I often walk to the meat market or the bakery or the pet food store. The house is near the hospital. This might seem like a disadvantage but the street is always plowed. The electricity is always on. I decided that I liked this house in this location. I did’t want to fix it up and then sell it. I want to enjoy my efforts. But I need to do things to it before I retire–which will not be soon unless I come into a fortune and even then maybe not. Once the termites were dead, I set about having the floors redone. The office needed a new board or two. And the whole set of floors needed to be sanded, resealed, and finished.
Unlike getting rid of termites, this was a major endeavor. We had to move out all of the furniture, appliances, and since that was all moving, I sorted things too. Not everything got tossed but I did give away books and threw out things such as old maps and any old plastic because we all know, I dislike old plastic.
New wood to replace what the termites ate.
But is is tasty white oak or delicious red oak?
Fir floors: boards replaced due to water line holes, not bugs
My goal is this. I’m going to make my house beautiful and then I’m going to live in it.
The office floor had termite damage, the living room and family room had some water damage from 100 years of existence, and the back hall had holes from water pipes that had been moved. These weren’t extensive, you could cover them with rugs, or as it had been for years, with carpet. The carpet was aging and the floor dings had accumulated through the years and I faced fixing my house or letting it get worse and worse. I decided to fix it while I had a job–before retirement or the nation falling into rubble, which ever came first. I didn’t do this by myself. I called in floor restorers.
Step  one was patching. This took them a day. One question the repair company had was, did we have red oak or white oak? The woods finish differently. and replacing the termite boards was a major goal of this project.  The eaten boards were red oak. It’s considered more beautiful than white but is also more porous. This is what the termites adored and bored through. Most of the oak in the house is red except for the stairs which are white oak. By the way, floor refinishers say that white oak smells peppery when sanded. We also have fir floors and pine. Lots of trees gave their lives for this house and it’s an intriguing cornucopia of wood.
Next came sanding. Sanding the floors took over a day. This was longer than usual for a floor restore but previous owners had glued carpet and parquet over some of the floors. The mixture of sawdust and glue made hard little balls. Here is a photo of workers trying to get up the dark stain from glued on kitchen carpet. Never glue anything to your wood floors by the way.
Tumblr media
People weren’t the only things trying out new substances. Floors saw an array of new glues and carpet backings. Here are workers trying to remove a mixture of carpet and glue from the 1960s.
Tumblr media
Getting the glue off slowly. Working around radiators took a while.

The floors are red oak and the stairs, white oak. Here they are after being sanded before being sealed or top coated. If you look carefully you can see that the banister covered with a thin layer of sawdust.
Here is a nice photo of the sanded floors in the living room.
Tumblr media
Living room
Next came the sealing. Oak floors are best sealed with oil based polyurethane. This darkens them and brings out the yellow. It smells terrible and is hazardous. During this phase you need to move out of your house if you haven’t already. Don’t even think you can live there. Yes, I did leave my algae eater behind in her aquarium and she lived unscathed as the refinishing company predicted. However, I could smell the volatiles at least two feet outside of my house. This is not something cleaner or greener. The best hope is that it doesn’t have to be done too often in the life of a house.
Tumblr media
Floors and stairs with sealant, illustrating white oak on stairs and red oak on floors.
After sealing, four coats of polyurethane are added with sanding in between. I thought that the sealing smelled the worst and each coat let off fewer volatiles. The last step in the process was to replace the baseboards. We had no baseboards in most of the rooms thanks to the carpeting. We had a choice of doing this last step ourselves or having it done professionally. My spouse is a handy person and was tempted to do it but I felt that the emotional energy on my part would have been far too great. How many days could I stand to look at no baseboards? Zero days. That’s what I decided.
After eleven days and a day after the last coat of finish we were allowed to enter the house with sock-feet, air it out, and the next day we began cleaning. Yes, cleaning. There was a thin layer of sawdust on all surfaces lower than 4 feet.
Tumblr media
Sawdust
But here are the floors:
Tumblr media
Yes this once had carpet glued to it.
Tumblr media
Parquet no more.
Tumblr media
Once again, the living room will be grand.
Tumblr media
The upstairs floor is humble pine but I’m a fan of yellow so I like it.
Tumblr media
And d@**# those termites.
The furniture can be moved in after three days and the rugs after a week. Since dirty shoes are tough on the floors we will probably join the ranks of those who take shoes off at the door .I’m a person who likes to be one with my shoes. As of today,  it’s all about socks. I can do it, right?
But not everyone is happy about that:
Tumblr media
Although the floor people assure us that it’s people who do the damage to floors, for the next day or two Apollo will be sporting these no slip dog socks.
I’m floored: getting your wood floors redone My house had termites. They ate a board and a half from my floor and maybe a door sill.

Vladimir Mayakovsky – A Cloud in Trousers (English)
Prologue
Your thought, Fantasizing on a sodden brain, Like a bloated lackey on a greasy couch sprawling, — With my heart’s bloody tatters, I’ll mock it again. Until I’m contempt, I’ll be ruthless and galling.
There’s no grandfatherly fondness in me, There are no gray hairs in my soul! Shaking the world with my voice and grinning, I pass you by, — handsome, Twentytwoyearold.
Gentle souls! You play your love on the violin. The crude ones play it on the drums violently. But can you turn yourselves inside out, like me And become just two lips entirely?
Come and learn– You, decorous bureaucrats of angelic leagues! Step out of those cambric drawing-rooms
And you, who can leaf your lips Like a cook turns the pages of her recipe books.
If you wish– I’ll rage on raw meat like a vandal Or change into hues that the sunrise arouses, If you wish– I can be irreproachably gentle, Not a man — but a cloud in trousers.
I refuse to believe in Nice blossoming! I will glorify you regardless, — Men, crumpled like bed-sheets in hospitals, And women, battered like overused proverbs.
Part I
You think I’m delirious with malaria?
This happened. In Odessa, this happened.
“I’ll come at four,” promised Maria.
Eight… Nine… Ten.
Soon after, The evening, Frowning, And Decemberish,
Left the windows And vanished in dire darkness.
Behind me, I hear the neighing and laughter Of candelabras.
You wouldn’t recognize me if you knew me prior: A bulk of sinews Moaning, Fidgeting. What can such a clod desire? But a clod desires many things.
Because for oneself it doesn’t matter Whether you’re cast of copper Or whether the heart is cold metal. At night, you want to wrap your clamor In something feminine, Gentle.
And thus, Enormous, I hunch in the frame, And with my forehead, I melt the window glass. Will this love be tremendous or lame? Will it sustain or pass? A big one wouldn’t fit a body like this: It must be a little love, — a baby, sort of, It shies away when the cars honk and hiss, But adores the bells on the horse-tram. I come face to face With the rippling rain, Yet once more, And wait Splashed by the city surf’s thundering roar.
Running amok with a knife outside, The night caught up to him And stabbed him, Unseen.
The stroke of midnight Fell like a head from a guillotine.
The silver raindrops on the windowpane Were piling a grimace And yelling. It was as if the gargoyles of Notre Dame Started yelping.
Damn you! Haven’t you had enough yet? Cries will soon cut my throat all around.
I heard: Softly, Like a patient out of his bed, A nerve leapt Down. At first, He barely moved. Then, apprehensive And distinct, He started prancing. And now, he and another two, Darted about, step-dancing.
On the ground floor, the plaster was falling fast.
Nerves, Big ones Little ones,– Various! — Galloped madly Until, at last, Their legs wouldn’t carry them.
The night oozed through the room and sank. Stuck in slime, the eye couldn’t slither out of it. Suddenly the doors started to bang As if the hotel’s teeth were chattering.
You entered, Abrupt like “Take it!”, Mauling suede gloves, you tarried, And said: “You know,– I’m soon getting married.”
Get married then. It’s all right, I can handle it. You see — I’m calm, of course! Like the pulse Of a corpse.
Remember? You used to say: “Jack London, Money, Love and ardor,”– I saw one thing only: You were La Gioconda, Which had to be stolen!
And someone stole you.
Again in love, I shall start gambling, With fire illuminating the arch of my eyebrows. And why not? Sometimes, the homeless ramblers Will seek to find shelter in a burnt down house!
You’re mocking me? “You’ve fewer emeralds of madness than a beggar kopecks, there’s no disproving this!” But remember Pompeii came to end thus When somebody teased Vesuvius!
Hey! Gentlemen! You care for Sacrilege, Crime And war. But have you seen The frightening terror Of my face When It’s Perfectly calm?
And I feel- “I” Is too small to fit me. Someone inside me is getting smothered.
Hello! Who’s speaking? Mother? Mother! Your son has a wonderful sickness! Mother! His heart has been set alight! Tell Lydia and Olga, his sisters, That there’s simply no where to hide. Every word, Whether funny or crude, That he spews from his scorching mouth, Jumps like a naked prostitute From a burning brothel.
People sniff– Something’s burned down. They call the firemen. In glittering helmets, They carelessly start intruding. Hey, tell the firemen: No boots allowed! With a sizzling heart one has to be prudent. I’ll do it! I’ll pump my watery eyes into containers. Just let me push off my ribs and I’ll start. I’ll leap out! I’ll leap out! You can’t restrain me! They’ve collapsed. You can’t leap out of the heart!
From the cracks of the lips, A cindering kiss springs, Running away from the smoldering face.
Mother! I can’t sing. In the heart’s chapel, the choir was set ablaze!
The figurines of words and numbers From the skull, Like kids from a burning building, scurry. Thus fear, Reaching up to the sky, called And raised Lusitania’s fiery arms with worry.
A hundred-eyed blaze looked into the peace Of apartments, where the people perspired. With a final outcry, Will you moan, at least, To report to the centuries that I’m on fire?
Part II
Glorify me! The great ones are no match for me! Upon everything that’s been done I stamp the word “naught.”
As of now, I have no desire to read. Novels? So what!
This is how books are made, I used to think: — Along comes a poet, And opens his lips with ease. Inspired, the fool simply begins to sing — Oh please! It turns out: Before they can sing with elation, On their calloused feet they tramp for some time, While the brainless fishes of imagination Are splashing and wallowing in the heart’s slime. And while, hissing with rhymes, they boil All the loves and the nightingales in a broth-like liquid, The tongueless street merely squirms and coils — It has nothing to yell or even speak with.
In our pride, we work all day with goodwill And the city towers of Babel are again restored. But God Grinds These cites into empty fields, Stirring the word.
In silence, the street dragged on the ordeal. A scream stood erect on the gullet’s road. While fat taxies and cabs were bristling still, Wedged in the throat. As if from consumption, The trodden chest gasped for air.
The city, with gloom, blocked the road rather fast.
And when — Nevertheless! — The street coughed up the strain onto the square And pushed the portico off its throat, at last, It seemed as if, Accompanied by the choirs of an archangel’s chorus, Recently robbed, God would show us His heat!
But the street squatted down and yelled out coarsely: “Let’s go eat!”
The Krupps and the Krupplets gather around To paint menacing brows on the city, While in the gorge Corpses of words are scatted about,– Two live and thrive,– “Swine” And another one,– I believe “borsch”.
And poets, soaking in sobs and complaining, Run from the street, resentful and sour: “With those two words there’s no way to portray now A beautiful lady, Or love Or a dew-covered flower.”
And after the poets, Thousands of others stampeded: Students, Prostitutes, Salesmen.
Gentlemen, Stop! You are not the needy; So how dare you to beg them, gentlemen!
Covering yards with each stride, We are healthy and ardent! Don’t listen to them, but thrash them instead! Them, Who are stuck like a free add-on To each king-size bed!
Are we to ask them humbly: “Help us, please!” Imploring them for hymns And oratorios? We are the creators with the burning hymns To the hum of the mills and laboratories.
Why should I care about Faust? In a fairy display of the fireworks’ loot, He’s gliding with Mephistopheles on the parquet of galaxies! I know– A nail in my boot Is more frightening than Goethe’s fantasies!
I am The most golden-mouthed, With every word I am giving The body a name-day, And the soul a rebirth, I assure you: The minutest speck of the living Is worth more than all that I’ll ever do on this earth!
Listen! The present-day Zarathustra, Wet with sweat, Is dashing around you and preaching here. We, With faces crumpled like a bed spread, With lips sagging like a chandelier, We, The Leprous City detainees, Where, from filth and gold, lepers’ sores were raised, We are purer than the Venetian azure seas, Washed by the sunshine’s balmy rays.
I spit on the fact That Homer and Ovid didn’t create Soot-covered with pox, Men like us all, But at the same time, I know That the sun would fade If it looked at the golden fields of our souls.
Muscles are surer than prayers to us! We won’t pray for aid any more! We– Each one of us– Holds in his grasp The driving reins of the world!
This led to Golgotha in the auditoriums Of Petrograd, Moscow, Kiev, Odessa, And there wasn’t one of you Who wasn’t imploring thus: “Crucify him!” Teach him a lesson!” But to me,– People, Even those of you who were mean,– To me, you are dear and I love you with passion.
Haven’t you seen A dog licking the hand that it’s being thrashed by?
I am laughed at By the present-day tribe. They’ve made A scabrous joke out of me. But I can see crossing the mountains of time, Him, whom the others can’t see.
Where men’s sight falls short, Wearing the revolutions’ thorny crown, Leading at the head of the hungry horde, The year 1916 is coming around.
Among you, his precursor, Wherever there’s pain, I’ll be near. I have nailed myself to the cross there, On every single drop of a tear. There’s nothing left to pardon now! In souls that bred pity, I burnt out the fields. That is much harder than Taking a thousand thousands of Bastilles.
And when His advent announcing, Joyful and proud, You’ll step up to greet the savior– I will drag My soul outside, And trample it Until it spreads out! And give it to you, red in blood, as a flag.
Part III
Ah, how and wherefrom Did it come to this That the dirty fists of madness Against the luminous joy were raised in the air?
She came,– The thought of a madhouse And curtained my head with despair.
And As in the Dreadnought’s downfall With chocking spasms The men jumped into the hatch, before the ship died, The crazed Burlyuk crawled on, passing Through the screaming gaps of his eye. Almost bloodying his eyelids, He emerged on his knees, Stood up and walked And in the passionate mood, With tenderness, unexpected from one so obese, He simply said: “Good!”
It’s good when from scrutiny a yellow sweater Hides the soul! It’s good when On the gibbet, in the face of terror, You shout: “Drink Cocoa — Van Houten!”
This moment, Like a Bengal light, Crackling from the blast, I wouldn’t exchange for anything, Not for any money.
Clouded by cigar smoke, And stretching like a liquor glass, One could make out the drunken face of Severyanin.
How dare you call yourself a poet And gray, like a quail, twitter away your soul! When With brass knuckles This very moment You have to split the world’s skull!
You, With one thought alone in your head, “Am I dancing with style?” Look how happy I am Instead, I,– A pimp and a fraud all the while.
From all of you, Who soaked in love for plain fun, Who spilled Tears into centuries while you cried, I’ll walk away And place the monocle of the sun Into my gaping, wide-open eye.
I’ll wear colorful clothes, the most outlandish And roam the earth To please and scorch the public, And in front of me, On a metal leash, Napoleon will run like a little puppy.
Like a woman, quivering, the earth will lie down, Wanting to give in, she will slowly slump. Things will come alive And from all around, Their lips will lisp: “Yum-yum-yum-yum-yum!”
Suddenly, The clouds And other stuff in the air Stirred in some astonishing commotion, As if the workers in white, up there, Declared a strike, all bitter and emotional.
The savage thunder peeked out of the cloud, irate. Snorting from huge nostrils, it howled And for a moment, the face of the sky bent out of shape, Resembling the iron Bismarck’s scowl.
And someone, Entangled in the clouds’ maze, To the café, stretched out his hand now: Both, tender somehow, And with a womanly face, And at once, like a firing cannon.
You think That’s the sun above the attics Gently stretching to caress the cheeks of the café? No, advancing again to slaughter the radicals It’s General Galliffet!
Take your hands out of your pockets, wanderers – Pick up a bomb, a knife or a stone And if one happens to be armless, Let him come to fight with his forehead alone!
Go on, starving, Servile And abused ones, In this flea-swarming filth, do not rot!
Go on! We’ll turn Mondays and Tuesdays Into holidays, painting them with blood! Remind the earth whom it tried to debase! With your knives be rough! The earth Has grown fat like the mistress’ face, Whom Rothschild had over-loved!
May the flags flutter in the line of fire As they do on holidays, with a flare! Hey, street-lamps, raise the traders up higher, Let their carcasses hang in the air.
I cursed, Stabbed And hit in the face, Crawled after somebody, Biting into their ribs.
In the sky, red like La Marseillaise, The sunset gasped with its shuddering lips.
It’s insanity!
Not a thing will remain from the war.
The night will come, Bite into you And swallow you stale.
Look– Is the sky playing Judas once more, With a handful of stars that were soaked in betrayal?
The night, Like Mamai, feasted with delight, Crushing the city with its bottom’s heft. Our eyes won’t be able break through this night, As black as Azef!
Slumped in the corner of the saloon, I sit, Spilling wine on my soul and the floor, And I see: In the corner, round eyes are lit And with them, Madonna bites the heart’s core.
Why bestow such radiance on this drunken mass? What do they have to offer? You see – once again, They prefer Barabbas Over the Man of Golgotha?
Maybe, deliberately, In the human mash, not once Do I wear a fresh-looking face. I am, Perhaps, The handsomest of your sons In the whole human race.
Give them, The ones molded with delight, A quick death already, So that their children may grow up right; Boys — into fathers Girls — into pregnant ladies.
Like the wise men, let the new born babes Grow gray with insight and thought And they’ll come To baptize the infants with names Of the poems I wrote.
I praise the machine and the industrial Britain. In some ordinary, common gospel, It may perhaps, be written That I’m the thirteenth apostle.
And when my voice rumbles bawdily, Every evening, For hours and hours, awaiting my call, Jesus, Himself, may be sniffling The forget-me-nots of my soul.
Part IV
Maria! Maria! Let me in, Maria! Don’t leave me out on the street! You can’t? My cheeks cave in, But you wait ruthlessly. Soon, sampled by everyone, Stale and pallid, I’ll come out And mumble toothlessly That today I’m “Remarkably candid.”
Maria, You see– My shoulders are drooping again.
In the streets, the men Prick the fat in their four-story craws. They show their eyes, Worn out in the forty years of despair, and restless- They snicker because In my teeth, Again, I hold the hardened crust of last night’s caresses.
The rain wept over the sidewalks, — That puddle-imprisoned fraudster. The corpse of the street, clobbered by cobbles, soaked in its cries. But the gray lashes– Yes! — The eyelashes of icicles became frosted With tears from the eyes– Yes! — From the drainpipes’ overcast eyes.
Every pedestrian was licked by the rain’s snout: Athletes glistened in the carriages on the street. People burst Overstuffed, And their fat oozed out. Like a muddy river, it streamed on the ground, Together with juices from A cud of old meat.
Maria! How can I fit a tender word into bulging ears? A bird Sings for alms With a hungry voice Rather well, But I am a man, Maria, Coughed up by the ailing night into Presnya’s filthy palms.
Maria, do you want me? Maria, take me in, please. With shivering fingers I’ll squeeze the iron throat of the bell!
Maria!
The pastures of streets turn wild and loud! They’re squeezing my neck and I’m almost collapsing.
Open!
I’m hurt!
Look – my eyes are pricked out By the common womanly hatpins!
You’ve opened the door.
My child! Oh, don’t be alarmed! You see these women, Hanging on my neck like mountains, — Through life, I drag with me A million of massive, enormous, pure loves And a million millions of filthy, disgusting lovelets. Don’t be afraid If betraying the vow Of honesty, Seeing a thousand pretty faces, I’ll throw myself at them, — “Those, who love Mayakovsky!”- Please, understand that that is the dynasty Of the queens, who have mounted the heart of a madman.
Maria, closer!
Whether naked and shameless, Or shivering in dismay, Yield the wonder of your lips, so gentle: My heart and I have never lived until May, But in my past, A hundreds of Aprils assembled.
Maria! A poet sings praises to Tiana all day, But I– I’m made of flesh, I’m a man, — I ask for your body, Like the Christians pray: “Give us this day Our daily bread.”
Maria, give it to me!
Maria! I fear to forget your name As a poet fears to forget under pressure A word He conceived in a restless night, Equal to God in effect.
Your body I shall continue to love and treasure As a soldier Amputated by war, Alone And unwanted, Cherishes his remaining leg.
Maria, — You won’t have me? You won’t!
Ha!
Then gloomy and dismal, Once more, I shall carry My tear-stained heart Forward, Like a dog, Limping, Carries the paw That the speeding train had ran over.
With the blood from the heart I cheer the road that I roam, Flowers cling to my jacket, making it dusty, The sun will dance a thousand times round the earth, Like Salome Danced around the head of the Baptist.
And when my years, at their very end, Will finish their dance and wrinkle, A million bloodstains will spread The path to my Father’s kingdom.
I’ll climb out Filthy (sleeping in gullies all night), And into his ears, I’ll whisper While I stand At his side:
“Mister God, listen! Isn’t it tedious To dip your generous eyes into clouds Every day, every evening? Let’s, instead, Start a festive merry-go-round On the tree of knowledge of good and evil! Omnipresent, you’ll be all around us! From the wine, all the fun will ensue And Apostle Peter, who’s always been frowning, Will perform the fast-paced dance — ki-ka-pu. We’ll bring all the Eves back into Eden: Order me And I’ll go– From the boulevards, I’ll pick up all the pretty girls needed And bring them to you!
Should I?
No?
You’re shaking your curly head coarsely? You’re knitting your brows like you’re rough? Do you think That this Winged one, close by, Knows the meaning of love?
I too am an angel; used to be one before– With a sugar lamb’s eye, I stared at your faces, But I don’t want to give presents to mares anymore, — All the torture of Sevres that’s been made into vases. Almighty, You created two hands, And with care, Made a head, and went down the list, — But why did you make it So that it pained When one had to kiss, kiss, kiss?!
I thought that you were the Great God, Almighty But you’re a miniature idol, — a dunce in a suit, Bending over, I’m already reaching For the knife that I’m hiding At the top of my boot.
You, swindlers with wings, Huddle in fright! Ruffle your shuddering feathers, rascals! You, reeking of incense, I’ll open you wide, From here all the way to Alaska.
Let me go!
You can’t stop me! Whether I’m right or wrong Makes no difference, I will not be calmer. Look, — The stars were beheaded all night long And the sky is again bloody with slaughter.
Hey you, Heaven! Take your hat off, When you see me near!
Silence.
The universe sleeps. Placing its paw Under the black, star-infested ear.

15 Houses Under $50,000: May 2018 Edition
by Elizabeth Finkelstein
Ever since I started writing this particular column several years back, a funny thing has happened: I’ve started to become a magnet for cheap, old fixer-uppers. They seem to come to me in my sleep. They arrive daily in my inbox. People have even stopped me on the street to tell me about them. (Yes, this IS my dream-come-true, in case you were wondering.) It occurred to me one day that I’m aware of more cheap old house listings than I know what to do with, so I started a special Instagram feed @cheapoldhouses as a place to share them with others who can’t get enough fixer-upper eye candy. The feed has done so well that I’ve taken a short hiatus from our standard 10 Under 50K post on CIRCA. But I’m back now, ready to share with you a handful of the most gorgeous homes for sale under $50K that are ready and waiting for your TLC.   (If you come across any beautiful old houses for sale for under $50,000, send them along to us at [email protected])   Also… We don’t personally represent any of these homes. We’ve provided a link back to the original listing in the description for each home. Click through if you’re looking for more information!
1  136 Chestnut St, Danville, VA   Source: CIRCA, courtesy of Friends of the Old West End   $44,420   Exterior painting and repairs are already underway on this unique Queen Anne style cottage. Built in 1891, the cottage was updated in the 1920s adding the porch lattice and a rear addition for a “modern” kitchen. Overall, the condition of the structure is very good, with nearly all architectural features intact and restorable. In addition to its decorative trim, the front porch is graced by a stained bead board ceiling in good condition. The front entry door features a fanlight transom. A fifteen light front door and six light side panels complete the front entry. The house retains five arts and crafts fireplace mantles with their cast iron surrounds and decorative doors. Bead board wainscoting is present in the entry hall and dining room. A nice rear yard completes the picture. Tentative architectural plans call for keeping the original four front rooms intact as a living room (or study), dining room, family room, and master bedroom. Those plans also suggest incorporating a new master bath and walk in closet, two bedrooms with generous closets, hall bath, kitchen with breakfast area, and a laundry closet in the rear. Those plans are freely available to prospective purchasers. But hurry before the Danville land bank completes the interior themselves. This one is truly a find. The cottage was originally built by Herbert Lee Boatwright, a local tobacconist. A successful businessman, Boatwright later owned one of the Millionaires’ Row mansions just a few hundred feet away. Boatwright’s sons were known for their excellent marriages – one to the daughter of a U.S. Senator and the other to the daughter of Virginia’s governor. Rehab and occupancy covenants required. The first floor features a dramatic central stair with original curved handrail, 15 foot ceilings, etched glass transoms over interior doors, and full height windows that open onto a full wrap around porch. There are two symmetrical additions on the rear of the house, including a large kitchen area. Located one block from the historic commercial district, the house would lend itself to use as a bed-and-breakfast or professional office space, as well as a private residence. A new roof is an immediate need, along with repair of water damage. The exterior siding and detail require inspection, repair, and paint.
Brokers protected. This property is located in the Old West End (OWE) National Historic District. One of five National Register districts in Danville, Virginia, the OWE boasts the finest and most concentrated collection of Victorian and Edwardian architecture anywhere in the Commonwealth. But it’s not just the architecture. Located adjacent to our city’s flourishing downtown River District, the Old West End is a community of friendly people with a passion for preservation and restoration. Make your home in our welcoming neighborhood and our just-right city. It’s nicer here. Come join us.

It’s exuberant display of elaborate interior and exterior features run the gamut of Georgian, Federal and Greek Revival styles. Built in 1932 by Janice and Peter Seaman, who was in the lumber business and a skilled woodworker, the Seaman House is a testament to their appreciation of architectural refinement. Decades of neglect have resulted in severe water damage and collapsed floors. The house will need all new electrical, plumbing and HVAC systems, structural repair, roofing, a new kitchen and bathrooms. The house is located in the National Register district and may be eligible for tax credits. Though the property is overgrown, the house and outbuildings fading, it doesn’t take much imagination to see the beauty and quality of the estate. The outstanding woodwork and spacious well-laid out rooms within a stately house situated on a slight rise with mature trees and boxwoods calls out to be preserved.
