What, exactly, is a Goddess Hike (R)?

Goddess Hikes are a year-long, trademark event of Camping Noire that takes place the last Sunday of every month.  It involves the gathering of our sisterhood to discover and hike new trails in the area, exercise our bodies, and most importantly, strengthen our practice of being present in order to soak in all that mother nature offers.

Occasionally we schedule pop-up Goddess Hikes in areas where a Camping Noire presence hasn’t yet been established.  Other times, we may schedule an Open Hike which, depending on the location and difficulty of the hike, allows members to invite along children and/or men to join.  

But most times, it’s just the sisterhood...

And together, we conquer the trails, sometimes stopping to take in the scenery, jot down a journal entry, hit a yoga pose, or just be still.

It is a magical dose of natural medicine to start your week off with high vibes!

Dekaranger Robo

So, I was perusing my usual websites, and I happened to find this guy for $30. Heavily color stained, minimal paint chipping, working electronics. Yeah, I think I got a really good deal. Now, the other Dekaranger stuff... Y’gotta hate gateway toys. Still, 10 Q1s now. That’s pretty impressive.

The Good: Man, this guy does a lot! I had to do an entire other image set just to show off what all the individual vehicles can do. Patstriker does the most, combing with parts from either Patgyrer or Patarmor as well as having electronics, but everyone can do something. Patsigner in particular comes with a bunch of cardboard signs you can swap out, and I think I was lucky enough to get all of them:

While most of the transformation into Dekaranger Robo is pretty simple, the way Patstriker changes its silhouette is pretty cool, sliding out on rails and folding in half to expose its head and shoulder lights. One thing that confuses me, though, is this back flap:

The instructions say to unfold it before transforming it, but you don’t really need to, and it doesn’t really change the silhouette at all or add additional support.

I’ll also give credit to how it manages to get Patgyrer and Patrailer to light up without giving them any electronics:

There’s an LED bar on each leg connection that slides in behind their lights. It’s pretty clever how it works, and the way it folds away keeps it from being intrusive. Lastly, continuing on the note of electronics, If you leave the electronics on too long they give off a brief light and beep. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve forgotten to turn a toy off after testing their electronics, so I personally find this to be a very cool feature and wish some newer toys used it.

The Bad: I’ve got two minor complaints. Firstly is the legs. Because of the way Patgyrer and Patrailer are sculped and transform Patgyrer sticks out a lot more than Patrailer does giving Dekaranger Robo an almost “always one foot forward” appearance. I can’t help but notice it, and I feel like there was an easy fix in there somewhere, but it’s over 10 years old, so who am I to say the logistics behind it?

Secondly is about Patarmor when combining. The back of Patarmor becomes the hilt of Dekaranger Robo’s sword, with the hilt of the sword being used as the plug. And it connects through a hole and into the palm of the robot hand:

And my issue is that it requires that plug to stay in place. If it’s an arm and not a car it won’t stay in fully and pop out a bit and sometimes flop around. This means that if you’re not using the sword it has nowhere to go. I normally wouldn’t care, but Dekaranger Robo does such a good job of storing all its other accessories that the fact that one is left out bothers me.

The Ugly is the price tag. Like I said, I got this guy for $30, and it’s an amazing toy for that price. If you managed to get this guy when it was still at retail you would have spent your money well. I would even say that if you found this guy nowadays for $70 to $75 dollars you would be really happy with what you got.

...This guy goes for around $150. That is a looooot to ask for for this guy. I mean, he’s real darn good, but not, like, collector toy, Sentai Artisan, 3rd Party Transformer good.

Overall, it’s a great toy, but has a huge asking price. I would highly recommend it, but only if you can find a used one in fair condition.
