Blackbirding is the coercion of people through deception or kidnapping to work as slaves or poorly paid labourers in countries distant from their native land. The practice took place on a large scale with the taking of people indigenous to the numerous islands in the Pacific Ocean during the 19th and 20th centuries. These blackbirded people were called Kanakas or South Sea Islanders. They were taken from places such as Papua New Guinea, the Solomon Islands, Vanuatu, Niue, Easter Island, the Gilbert Islands, Tuvalu, Fiji, and the islands of the Bismarck Archipelago amongst others.

Yellowtail Amberjack: The Yellowtail Amberjack is a large fish that is found in the Southern Ocean. They can reach out up to 180 cm in length. They inhabit rocky reefs and adjacent sandy areas in the coastal waters and sometimes enter the estuaries.

Longtail Tuna: The Longtail Tuna is also known as the northern bluefish tuna, which is used to differentiate them from the southern bluefin tuna. This fish of Australia can reach up to 145 cm in length and 35.9 kg in weight. 

Golden Perch: The Golden Perch is a medium-sized yellow or golden colored fish of Australia. They are commonly 30-40 cm in length and 1-2 kg in rivers. This fish has an elongated, deep but lateral compressed body with small to moderate-sized eyes and a distinct hump above their head. 

Australian Bass: The Australian Bass is a small to medium-sized fish of Australia which is primarily found in coastal rivers and streams. The wild river Australian bass is 0.4-0.5 kg in weight and 20-30 cm in length.

Eel-tailed Catfish: The Eel-tailed Catfish is a species of catfish. This fish of Australia is a freshwater native to the Murra-Darling river system of eastern Australia. They commonly grow up to 50 cm in length and about 1.8 kg in weight.

Refugees on Manus Island were braced for potential calamity on Tuesday evening as they refused to leave the now-decommissioned detention centre and feared violent clashes with locals and the military. A Manus Island refugee is fighting for an injunction to keep the detention centre open, saying it is simply not safe for people to live outside. On Tuesday, the Manus Island centre will close after a court called it unconstitutional. Manus Island detainee Shamindan Kanapadhi says he will not leave Australia's offshore immigration detention centre which, despite Tuesday's planned closure.

A native Papua New Guinea tribe has started burning bundles of money sent by the council and using spears to kill all non Papua New Guinea people including american troops and Af troops.

Responding Critical Analysis – Visual Arts No.1 Neighbour – Art in Papua New Guinea 1966-2016 This exhibition is currently showing at the Queensland Art / Gallery of Modern Art. The exhibition highlights our relationship with paua New Guinea and is a collection of art that has incorporated advertising material from Western society into beautifully woven bags and signs. I enjoyed the scale and immensity of some of the pieces. The entire ceiling in one of the rooms is covered with vibrantly painted shapes that are mesmerising as they stare with painterly eyes.

The artists chosen to exhibit have used many different styles such as naïve cartoon figures and shapes that could be used as printed textiles. There are many woven pieces that signify the interesting tribal culture that Papua New Guinea holds. One aspect that stood out for me was the variation of art styles and how they were brought together to form the interesting exhibition.
