This one gives a general summary of the importance of women in the fight for the idependence of Mozambique
And for a more present context
#I would need to check for a more detailed breakdown of the post independence because most of what I read was through Catarina Isabel Caldera#Martins and a lot of the literature is in portugese only#I THINK I've read Desiree Lewis coment a bit on it but I read Desiree along with a collection of authors under Oyèronké's name#and I have embarassingly traded information of what I read on what#but as often with revolutionary movement everywhere#a lot of talk about how the liberation of women and of the land are deeply connected BEFORE taking power. not a lot of action after#but I gotta disclaimer women are hardly the only category that felt betrayed after the first mandate#and pulling back to the field I have actual solid knowledge of that is literature if you haven't read Pauline Chiziane she's a delight#this post probably looks so random context is I mentioned conversations I had with mozamvican women who fought for independence about this#tendency of colonised men to only oppose patriarchy when the pater familias is the colonizer but be quite happy to occupy the same position#himself in betrayal of colonised women of their own lands in a post about this as a larger phenomena#but it's true everywhere every year our left here claims abortion is too divisive and it's 'not the time yet' to demand it#thank you Worker's Party for all this nothing#.txt

My Favourite Steve Characters
It's September 1st, also known as Steve Pemberton's birthday! I did one of these lists for Reece's birthday, and I wanted to do one for Steve too because I feel like not enough people talk about his amazing acting
These are in no particular order
Tony Martin - The Interrogation Of Tony Martin
This film was originally on Channel 4 and can now be found on Netflix. It's a verbatim piece about the true story of Tony Martin and why he killed two young boys that intruded on his home. Steve manages to be both cold and unsettling and surprisingly sympathetic in the role, everything he does is subtle and refined to produce an incredibly realistic performance
Trevor - Love's Great Adventure
I don't think I'll ever stop singing the praise of Love's Great Adventure, people overlook it because it doesn't have a dark twist but it's honestly one of the best episodes of the entire series! Steve Pemberton delivers such a raw performance that it left me wishing there was a spin-off series! The entire episode is beautiful, and Trevor is a huge part of the reason; I could praise Steve's ability to dig up such pure, unbridled feeling in every character he plays for ages!
Dr Bessner - Death On The Nile (2004)
I'm a sucker for a good Agatha Christie, especially Poirot, so finding out that Steve Pemberton was in one of the remakes made me very excited - and, as always, he delivers. Dr Bessner is a character which may end up fading into the back of people's memories, but Steve Pemberton managed to make every scene he was in very entertaining. It goes to show that he knows how to pull focus without taking away from other cast members, a credit to both his dedication and kindness
Len - Bernie Clifton's Dressing Room
I mean, he won a BAFTA for this one, that says it all! When we first meet Len, he's portrayed as a sweet, funny man with plenty of charisma. However, as the episode continues, Steve manages to show this façade break more and more until we see to the core of a man that's ruined his life and lost his way. Steve managed to perfectly portray Len as a flawed character while simultaneously making the audience sympathise with him and want him to get the help he needs
Galen - Thinking Out Loud
NOBODY can deny Steve Pemberton's range, not after watching Thinking Out Loud. He's positively frightening as Galen, using stillness and a measured delivery to create an unnerving character - at one point, he leaned forward and I actually jumped backwards!
Pauline Campbell-Jones - The League of Gentlemen
This list wouldn't be complete with the iconic Pauline Campbell-Jones! Steve's comedic timing and delivery skills makes her one to watch, but there are also moments where we see another side to her that's unexpected yet surprisingly heartwarming. Yet another example of Steve's fantastic range giving even the most comedic characters depth
Joe - The Last Weekend SPOILERS BELOW
Like Thinking Out Loud, this episode has a very controversial ending. But I want to step away from that for a moment (might make a post about it at some point, I'm not sure) to appreciate how incredible Steve was in it
At first, you sympathise with Joe; he has to deal with having a terrible illness and, on top of that, his partner doesn't exactly treat him that kindly. Steve's ability to pull at the audience's heartstrings really comes into play here... but, even before the big reveal, there are subtle moments where you get the sense that something isn't quite right
And that ending! Steve completely transforms and we're left with a Joe Madison that we've never seen before - and hope we never see in real life! It's perfectly sinister and 100% one of his best acting moments in the series
Of course, these are just a few of his roles and, like Reece, he's a real chameleon that can truly play any part (even if, sometimes, it's just Pauline). Benidorm is on my watch list so I'll be getting to that as soon as possible! I hope Steve's career continues to be full of opportunities!

Rosalyn Drexler, "Marilyn Pursued by Death" (1963)
Pauline Boty, "Epitaph to Something's Gotta Give" (1962)
Britain's women Pop artists found a reflective model in Marilyn Monroe, both before and after her death in August 1962.
Following is Marilyn Monroe's final film, left unfinished, referenced in the Boty canvas. A remake of 1940's My Favorite Wife, which starred Irene Dunne and Cary Grant, it featured Dean Martin as a man who marries Cyd Charisse after his first wife, Marilyn Monroe, is reportedly swept overboard five years earlier in a yacht race:

How I think Outlast characters would play Just Dance
Miles: Pretty good but questionable rhythm. Gets INSANELY into it and will probably beat you.
Waylon: Terrible. Horrible. Plays with his kids though and they absolutely smoke him, but he has fun.
Blake: Not as bad as Waylon, but not too far off. Lynn refuses to dance with him in public.
Jeremy: Pretty good although he pretends to be worse because he doesn’t want anyone knowing he enjoys Just Dance. (Rick and him get coked out on Saturdays and play)
Richard: Not bad, but this man has 0 rhythm. He gets super competitive even though Jeremy beats him every time. Secretly practices alone to get better.
Chris: Surprisingly amazing, and could probably beat all the other characters on this list. Idk I just feel like that man can dance….
Eddie: Nowhere near as good as Chris but he’s probably got rhythm. (Why do I keep saying these white boys have rhythm idk) RIP Eddie you would have loved Just Dance. Or hated it no in between.
Frank: I wouldn’t say he’s good but damn does he get into it. Does he hit the moves he’s supposed to? No, but he is definitely hitting moves.
The Twins: I imagine the shared thoughts thing they’ve got going on would help for some sick ass in sync dancing but god please put some pants on before playing Just Dance.
Val: Similar to Frank, those are definitely dance moves ! Val is definitely dancing !
Marta: Marta please stop dancing you’re scaring the children. (im kidding i love her i bet she would dance very lovely if she tried)
Pauline: Absolutely kicks ass at it and takes it seriously too. I would love to see Pauline and Chris go head to head.
Please add more these are my favorite characters and the only characters I feel confident answering for.

I do want to point out that the popular poets and popular poems here, the Mary Oliver type, are rarely from Black poets (I’m very keen on the “Black” of it all). You might see Audre Lorde in passing, maybe Lucille Clifton, but very few Black poets are widely circulated, reblogged, screenshotted on this site and for me that’s a difficult pill to swallow. And they’re quite easy to find too, so...This has nothing to do with “representation” or “diversity” but about erasure and who seems to exist in the poetic imagination.

doc martin is just 60% louisa storming over to martin to tell him what an ass he's being and fundamentally misunderstanding him as a person and a doctor and 40% martin doing his job. and sprinkled in between the two is the writers looking into the camera and going "perfect for each other aren't they?" while they wring each others neck'
#i enjoy everything in this show EXCEPT louisa and martins 'romance'#which is a shame considering the amount of time they spend trying to make it happen#and a shame too because if they didn't try to make it a romance then louisa could be a genuinely interesting and enjoyable character#doc martin#martin ellingham#louisa glasson#i don't know if its your classic 'writers actually think this is how romance works'#or if it's 'writers simply do not know how to write a#actually i know they can write a female character because they write pauline and martins aunt and other female characters just fine#they just don't know how to make louisa more than moral outrage and misunderstanding#honestly even that would be fine with me if they didn't make martin respond to it with 'i am in love with you also louisa'#like what basis do they even have for a romance#i didn't mean to get into it i'm just watching it rn and it's pissing me off because i'm on the series 2 christmas special#which comes right after the love confession#like damn give it a rest
