Regina held the pearl ring up to the light, raising it just high enough to become level with Stella’s eyes. Stella smiled, reddening.

“And I suppose you find my eyes just as beautiful?”

A grin spread across Regina’s face. “Your eyes are the color of damp mold.”

Stella’s face fell, unsure of herself. Taking note of this, Regina clasped Stella’s hand with her free one.

“Your cheeks are like a den in winter. And your lips…”

Her eyes settled on Stella’s pink lips, her own slightly parted, hesitating.

Stella kissed her.
