terror supernatural au bird boys post!!!

john irving - sandhill crane

he has feathers that go down his back and chest but get more sparse the lower down they go. they run across his shoulders and go up his neck, stopping just below his ears. he has red striping from his ears to the corner of his eyes, and the tips of his fingers match the brown at the ends of his wings. the social nature of the sandhill crane is what drew me to it for john in the first place. one of his duties as 3rd lieutenant would have been to work directly with the men, being in charge of groups of them at a time and mentoring the newer sailors. him being a sociable type of bird would be perfect imo.

george hodgson- balearic shearwater

he has feathers that spread from in between his wings, across his shoulders, down his arms, and sparsely cover his temple and cheeks up under his eyes. the gregarious nature of balearic shearwaters and their (sometimes annoyingly) loud calls made me feel like it was perfect for hodge, given his own gregarious nature and general annoyingness (i say with all the affection in the world. i love how annoying he is. fav yapper <3)

henry peglar - ascension frigatebird

he has feathers that cover most of his torso, arms, and neck. the feathers that go around his neck and up to his cheekbones are white, while the rest of them are a brown/black color. he's rarely ever actually seen on deck, preferring to be up high, either flying or perched on the sails. frigatebirds can fly up to 12,000 miles high and can fly for days at a time, which felt so right for our foretop captain. he really only comes down occasionally to sleep, eat, report anything he needs to, and see bridgens. he's the main scout for the terror, and would be gone for days at a time while out looking for an escape route of some kind after the ships became ice-locked.

billy gibson - not quite a bird like the others.

he's still a bird boy, but he's a caladrius. these are mythical birds that were able to identify and disperse sickness. they're described as white birds, often looking like seagulls, so i went with the ivory seagull for billy's wings. his feathers go up to his neck and frame his face, stopping right at the top of his temples. they curve down his cheekbones and stop at his nose, framing his eyes. he has the largest wingspan of the bird boys on board.
