I’m quite fond of scarlet and turquoise together, and Edessa rufomarginata displays them both in the form of a gorgeous stinkbug!

seen in Costa Rica, alongside an equally beautiful juvenile of the same species. they are quite common in this habitat but no less pretty for it!

'brown' insects are criminally overlooked, but are some of the most aesthetically pleasing creatures out there.

No common name (Poecilometis histricus).

ID? This handsome fella was in northern Utah
Bug ID - UT, USA:
It's hard to tell from the angle of the photo, but I believe that this is the Conchuela Bug (Chlorochroa ligata), family Pentatomidae.

Like a Flower.
“After a rainstorm, a shield bug (Pentatomidae) fell onto some decayed leaves in the mud. The gradual decay of the leaves reminded me of printed flowers, and I loved the bright contrast of the insect against it. This shield bug is like a flower that falls to the ground, bringing some bright emotions to the dark rainforest.”

Listen, we all have a problematic Blorbo sometimes. And sometimes that Blorbo is less of a Blorbo and more of a species of invasive stinkbug

Little guy hiding
(Halyomorpha halys, 9/5/2024)
*This animal is invasive in my area. I just want to share a nice photo of one, don’t be a jerk about it

Aelia rostrata is a local cousin of the more common A. acuminata, grass-loving stink bugs with a very goofy and recognizable shape. due to their bulkiness and ridiculous elongated head, lateral shots of these guys are especially fun to look at compared to those of a "normal" stink bug

a new Peocilometis species for me, the handsome P. calidus!

my first assumption when seeing this guy was that they were P. apicalis, but thankfully there are much more knowledgable folks on iNaturalist who can ID stink bugs for me :')

No common name (Poecilometis calidus).

Uncharismatic Fact of the Day
What's that smell? Why, it's the brown marmorated stink bug! These insects are famous for their distinctive protection against predators; when threatened, they emit a foul odor. What this odor smells like varies from person to person-- comparisons have been made to cilantro, pepper, fermenting apples, sulfur, skunks, or burnt tires. A few people can't even smell stink bugs at all!
