as someone who is partially indigenous (zacatecos and sámi), it is horrifying to see people just not care. it’s not something i talk about a lot because i have been thoroughly colonized and don’t look indigenous. maybe if i did the people around me would care but that just makes me feel worse.

these are my friends who talk big on social justice but never act on it. they post on their instagram stories but don’t sign petitions or pay attention to indigenous voices.

it’s like they only care for their image, not their friends. not the missing and murdered. not the land or the blood quantity or missionaries or oil pipes or tribal acknowledgment or national heritage protection or reservations or the mascots or whitewashing or anything that doesn’t pertain to them.

anyway that was my rant. fuck columbus and give our land back.

people are drawing Steamboat Willie Mickey doing all this crazy shit and whatnot, but you could always do that. you can do that now, with current Mickey, just fine. it's fanart and it's legally protected. hell you could take Disney-drawn Mickey and put a caption about unions or whatever on it and it would still be protected under free speech and sometimes even parody law.

what is special about public domain is that you can SELL him. you could take a screenshot and sell it on a tshirt. you can use him to advertise your plumbing business. people have already uploaded and monetized the original film.

you could always have Mickey say what you want, but now you can profit off it.

sometimes I want to give a standing ovation to the qsmp team for their huge brains in creating a character like cucurucho. equal parts terrifying and silly, you love him and love to hate him, either way you know its name. he is a villain but also literally their mascot character!!!

like this smiley bear is THE most recognizable thing of qsmp, thank goodness they know what they’re doing bc he is put to great use too. it narrates all the official channels, and they’re strong enough as a character to host very successful solo livestreams using only TTS phrases which is so impressive???? such a well done original character man. goals fr. they’ve already turned him into a small sidekick form so now the only thing missing is official merch
