Overview of American Country Music Festivals
Tumblr media
Country music is a popular genre beloved by countless people around the world. Originating in the United States, country music has continued to grow over the past decades thanks to musical icons such as Dolly Parton and Keith Urban. Every year, country music festivals bring together the genre's fans for a unique experience.
Stagecoach Festival is California's top country music festival, which takes place over three days every April. The festival features the biggest country singers and musicians from other genres, such as folk and roots rock. The 2023 edition was held at the Empire Polo Club. Carrie Underwood, Thomas Rhett, and Luke Combs were among the most famous headliners.
Mixing country music with beach fun, the Pepsi Gulf Coast Jam attracts thousands of festival-goers to Panama City, Florida, for four days. Held in June, the festival featured more than 30 artists, including Kane Brown and Miranda Lambert, who entertained attendees with their catchy songs on the beach.
Pepsi sponsors another country music festival called Rock the South in July. Taking place in Alabama, the festival launched its first edition in 2012. Known as one of the best American country music festivals, Rock the South invited Chris Stapleton and Zach Bryan among its 2023 headliners.
Tumblr media
CMA Music Festival, one of the oldest country music festivals, unites country enthusiasts in Nashville, Tennessee. In June 2023, the festival celebrated its 50th edition with musical legends such as Luke Bryan and Eric Church.
There's no better place to experience country music than in Texas. Old Settler's Music Festival was established in 1987 and has continued offering attendees the best country music yearly. In April 2023, the four-day festival featured The Wood Brothers, Shovels & Rope, among other singers. Festival-goers enjoyed the performances while having the opportunity to camp and attend music workshops.
A similar camping musical experience can also be found at the Country Stampede festival. Held in Topeka, Kansas, the three-day festival provides an amazing summer experience with performances on two stages. In 2023, Lee Brice and Cody Johnson were among the top festival performers.
Seeking a fusion of music and food, country music fans find the Windy City Smokeout a perfect getaway to enjoy the best of both worlds. Featuring top country acts, the festival also brings expert barbecue masters to serve festival-goers delicious food, including ribs and brisket. Zach Bryan, Darius Rucker, and Zac Brown Band headlined the 10th edition held at Chicago's United Centre Parking Lot in July 2023.
Minnesota hosts multiple country music festivals every year. Set in Walker, Minnesota, the Moondance Jammin Country Fest takes place every July. The festival experience is complemented by the neighboring Leech Lake, offering attendees a scenic view. In August 2023, thousands of music fans attended WE Fest at the Soo Pass Ranch. They enjoyed many performances by country singers Morgan Wallen, Brad Paisley, and Kane Brown. Founded in 2018, Twin Cities Summer Jam is a recent Minnesota-based festival. Its 2022 edition joined country music icon Blake Shelton with younger artists such as Kidd G and Callista Clark.

★ Nostalgia, technology & double dose of Salman: The making of Pepsi’s summer campaign!
Sharing the idea behind the film, PepsiCo India Category Lead - Cola Saumya Rathor said they wanted to create an unskippable ad that is disruptive with pathbreaking storytelling ‘April 7, 2022
Nostalgia, technology, and a double dose of one of the most loved superstars Salman Khan; Pepsi’s summer campaign for 2022 is one of the most interesting ad campaigns right now. As shared by the brand, it has garnered around 250 million impressions on digital as of now. The internet too seems obsessed with the ad and there are hundreds of organic and inorganic memes flooding the web.
Now if one wonders why it looks like a subtle CRED ad, the answer is because it has been created by the same team of creatives – whose projects are possibly the most debated in today’s time. It has been written by Devaiah Bopanna, Puneet Chadha, and Deep Joshi; and directed by Ayappa KM
PepsiCo India Category Lead - Cola  Saumya Rathor shared the experience of creating the pathbreaking campaign with exchange4media in a recent conversation. “It is for the first time that we worked with Devaiah, Puneet, Deep, and Ayappa. We wanted to create an unskippable ad that is disruptive with pathbreaking storytelling. There are a lot of brands competing in the space and we wanted to be distinctive.”
That’s why a lot of brainstorming went in between the creative and brand team when the idea of merging nostalgia and quirkiness came up from the agency’s end – a signature style that has worked well earlier too.
Rathor elaborated, “We did not sit at the table with the idea of creating a nostalgic ad or using Salman Khan in a double role. It came from the creative team and we absolutely loved it.”
She added that it took almost three months for the team to come out with the final film, which not only showcased great creativity in terms of writing but also using technology.”
On being asked what would help the ad stand out amidst the clutter of summer ads by various competitive brands, Rathor replied, “Pepsi has constantly been pushing the envelope when it comes to storytelling and good content is the driving factor for us. With Salman Khan in an unconventional double role, we have all the right ingredients (for a stand out ad).”
The ad is currently being run on television and digital and is also being seen during the Indian Premier League. Speaking about the importance of the latter in the media mix, Rathor quipped, “IPL is one of the most coveted mediums and a high impact property. Our TG definitely watches the league and being there is very important for a brand like ours.” Media buying for the campaign was managed by GroupM.
The ad has prompted a hilarious meme fest on social media as well, which Rathor admits was pushed from the brand’s side too. “Meme marketing is very important in today’s time and we have spent on that. But we have seen a number of content creators and meme pages picking the templates and content organically and doing their own take on it. I think it depends on the content as well. If the content is good, memes will happen. But as a brand, it is important to give that initial push to it.”

albany kent parson
-ok but if kent parson is from upstate NY, you cannot tell me he wasn’t born in/near Albany, sad, sweet land of my birth that I defend with my honor
-yes, Albany, forgotten capital city of NY by school kids everywhere in the US
-(Kent thinks NYC is so much cooler but no one from Albany would ever say that of course)
-(it’s a pride thing)
-so naturally, I present: Kent Parson, born in “Smallbany” (under read more b/c this got out of control lmao)
-first, it’s a fucking tiny city. I’m talking 100k people in the urban area
-Kent gets into fights when people call Poughkeepsie “upstate NY”. IT’S NOT.
-but anyways outside the city, it goes right from small urban environment to RURAL AF, lots of small weirdly named towns in the rest of the state
-seriously. like “Schaghticoke” is half an hour north
-as in, you go from the (three) skyscrapers to an actual llama farm in about 15 minutes tops
-Kent would’ve gone to one of these farms as an elementary school field trip, ate apple cider donuts and fresh hot maple syrup poured on fresh snow
-Kent Parson owned a pair of Uggs at one point, and wears North Face fleece 3/4 zip ups
-he still is picky about craft beer, and has Opinions on which is the best supermarket: Hannaford, Price Chopper, or (if you travel) Wegman’s
-his mom would take him camping in the Adirondacks each summer, and they would carry black bear whistles even though they’ve never seen a bear
-in the winter, his family skates in the Empire Plaza outdoor rink and gets falafel from the truck that loiters around there sometimes
-he can clear a snowy driveway in under 15 minutes. every winter was like an extra icy conditioning practice before he even got to the rink
-THE RINK: Kent would’ve played hockey in the Knickerbocker Arena, and was outraged when they renamed it to Pepsi Arena, and still annoyed when they renamed it yet again to the Times Union Center in the mid-2000s
-you can tell how old someone is by what name they refer to it as
-in high school he would’ve gone to parties held outdoors in the woods and then ran around drunk at a golf course
-he’s drank too much Keystone Light in his young life already
-Kent would’ve been dared by his out-of-state hockey friends to swim in the Hudson River, which gets sewage dumped into it when there is more than like 2 inches of rain
-has also been smuggled into a drive-thru movie by hiding in a trunk, trying not to breath in fumes from the old Honda his friend drove
-Kent’s used to hearing stories about corrupt politicians. nothing can faze him in terms of corruption in political offices. n o t h i n g
-Albany Devils play in the city now, but he’s used to buying tickets to see, say, the Rangers down in NYC
-has gone to the state museum more times than he can count, and cried actual tears when they took the mastodon reconstruction out of the front window
-sees Dave Matthews perform at SPAC every summer. he doesn’t even like Dave Matthews.
-the public transportation is kind of terrible. he uses his first contract check to buy his mom a car
-he also buys her a lakeside house up in Saratoga eventually, complete with a huge boat.
-his mom sends him photos of the fall foliage on her drive to work, from the 787 commute
-he has a picture of the hudson river surrounded by the red-orange-yellow trees as his phone wallpaper occasionally
-Jack maybe visited him there, once, met his mom and everything.
-they went to the state museum, taken photos in front of the Egg
-(the Egg- an egg-shaped building. great concert venue.)
-maybe kissed in a Stewart’s parking lot
-Kent was eating their Fireworks ice cream, that has pop rocks in it, and Jack can taste the fizz on his lips
-Jack, history nerd, would’ve loved Ten Broeck Mansion, the Capitol building, the Schuyler Mansion
-yes, Schuyler Mansion, as in Eliza/Angelica/Phillip Schuyler
-they scared themselves on a ghost tour of the Capitol building, where there are haunted statue heads (including an angry Alexander Hamilton one)
-Jack is a nerd and makes Kent take him to where President Chester A. Arthur was buried. Kent didn’t even remember he was a President
-much later in life, Kent maybe takes his boyfriend to the city in the winter
-they go to the holiday lights show, and pose under the gigantic glowing heart, nearly getting chased off by the on-duty police officer there
-Kent takes lots of photos at the Annual Tulip Fest
- it’s a a gigantic festival of tulip beds and vendors, lots of instagram-y shot potential
he names the especially weirdly colored flowers on his SnapChat, then eats too much fried dough (his trainer is going to murder him)
-Kent Parson, my Albany son, wears a I Heart NY tee shirt but to him it means Albany, not NYC
-i love my Albany son

Denver’s High Plains Comedy Festival is set to return for its fifth year this August — and although it’s only April the headliner is already set.
David Cross — known for a laundry list of projects — is likely a familiar face. From playing Tobias Fünke on Arrested Development to a role in the Oscar-winning The Post down to indie projects like IFC ‘s The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret, the comedian /actor tends to stay busy. Come this summer his schedule will include headlining the High Plains stage at both the Boulder Theater on Thursday, August 23 and the Paramount Theatre in Denver on Friday, August 24.
“I am beyond aroused to get back out on the road and bring my very special, artisanal small batch hand crafted, 100% organic jokes & jibberings to a venue near you,” said Cross.  “These jokes are kid tested and mother approved so bring the whole family!”
This stop will be a part of his “Oh Come On” tour which is his first since his 2016 “Making America Great Again” tour which went on to win a Grammy and earned a Netflix special.
Tickets go on sale this Friday, April 27 at 10 a.m. on BoulderTheater.com or AltitudeTickets.com (for the  Paramount show). If you want to avoid the online fees, head to the Pepsi Center Box Office, Dick’s Sporting Goods Park box office or Paramount Theatre box office (only open on event days).
The rest of the acts for High Plains Comedy Fest will be announced piecemeal, but expect plenty of local and familiar faces as well as Denver newcomers to grace the stage.
