Day 13: Collab - "Show us something you were a part of!"

A few years ago I participated in a Legend of Zelda fanzine. I chose to illustrate for Majora's Mask since it is one of my favorite entries in the series. Unfortunately, the fanzine was shut down by Nintendo and never saw the light of day. Even though the zine was cancelled, we were still able to share our pieces. I'm glad I participated because this is one of my favorite artworks I've ever done.

Hi All : : Time to catch up on the past three weeks of Peptober!!! Life has been a rollercoaster of emotions as I continue to walk through grief and rebuilding my life in AZ. But I’m back! Peptober 02 relates to sharing “my feels” for that day. October 2nd was a ROUGH day—couldn’t see the forest for the trees. Felt kinda like the way Julianne Moore’s character felt during the hotel room scene in “The Hours.” Totally overwhelmed. (NOT to the extreme degree of her character at that part of her journey but overwynonetheless). As the month moved in I’ve grown more in improving my self care and taking actions in positive directions. I’ve had some great moments with my sister and friends in texts, phone chats, over coffee/meals and a special visit from a dear friend. #peptoberday10 es para mostrar algo que te gustó hacer e incluso cómo te quedó, pero no recibió la aprobación externa que esperabas. Si bien creo que la consigna apuntaba a un post, me pareció más relevante mostrar un trabajo terminado que no se publicó, en este caso: una #tapa para agenda 2021 (si, esto es de 2020). En su momento hicimos encuestas entre las distintas opciones y esta fue descartada… y a mí me encantaba!! En verdad ibamos a imprimirla con stamping plata, no pude terminar de resolver bien los colores… así que finalmente elegimos otros caminos y esta imagen se transformó en un sticker en la agenda que tienen ahora. En general no comparto casi nada de proceso o lo que descarto, principalmente porque trabajamos con tanta anticipación que siempre estamos “fuera de tiempo”. Pero creo que está bueno compartir que no a todo lo que le invierto tiempo es un 1️⃣0️⃣✨🙌 y que a veces lo que me gusta a mí no le gusta a la mayoría 😅, PERO… mi trabajo es para ustedes, así que lo que se hace producto tiene que hacer sentido para ustedes. Yo me divierto haciendo todo, lo que se ve y lo que finalmente no! Today I want to share something that amazes me. 🎊 I always loved to look at things all the time, things in nature, things around me, art, craft, random things. But this is what I found to be fascinating; when I obsess and look at similar things over and over for a while, say, floral illustrations on Pinterest, which I often do, my brain does this thing: I see new combinations every time I close my eyes. Colors, forms combine automaticaly and emerge up there. They come so fast, I can’t catch up, and most of the time I don’t even try to. ES|| Hoy os enseño un proyecto diferente, un proyecto que surgió inesperadamente hace un par de veranos y que mezcla dos disciplinas muy diferentes. Cuando estoy estresada y necesito relajarme urgentemente me encanta cocinar, en especial me chiflan los postres y pasteles con poco azúcar y mucho chocolate (o con té matcha). También me encanta la fruta, sobre todo si es de agricultura ecológica, y no me gusta nada desperdiciar la comida. Si juntamos todo esto hay una receta que es perfecta: la MERMELADA! La mermelada evita que el exceso de fruta o que la fruta que está demasiado madura para poderla consumir fresca acabe en la basura y, al contrario, la podamos consumir todo el año. Quería que las etiquetas fueran cercanas, divertidas, vistosas y dulces como las elaboraciones. Por este motivo opté por hacer del producto principal de cada elaboración un personaje sin genero, simple y simpático, de ojos grandes y colores brillantes. Espero seguir haciendo más personajillos y más recetas de frutas. Otro día prometo daros las recetas de todas las elaboraciones! 🍑 EN|| Today I bring you an unusual project that emerged unexpectedly throughout the summer of two years ago. I say this project is unusual because it mixes two very different disciplines and it taps other forms of creativity. When I'm stressed and in urgently need to relax, cooking is helps me, especially I love to make desserts and bake cakes with little sugar and lots of chocolate or a little of matcha tea. Moreover I absolutely love fruits, especially if they’re from organic farming, and I don’t like to waste food. If we put those two things together there’s a perfect recipe: JAM! Making jam prevents that the excess of fruit or the fruit that is too ripe for fresh consumption ends up being wasted in the trash and, on the contrary, makes it possible for us to consume it all year round. Jam it's great to mix with yogurt, ice cream, kefir, a chocolate cake, cheesecake, ... I wanted the labels to be fun, colorful and as sweet as the elaborations. For this reason I chose to make a non-gender, simple and friendly character, with big eyes and bright colors, for every main product of each of the elaborations.🍑

#peptober 5) Share what you think is the most interesting part of your process.

I definitely think the thumbnails are the most interesting part of making a comic. For me it’s the most mentally challenging! After hours of work, all you end up with is tons of little rectangles that are incomprehensible to anyone but yourself! But if you try to skip this planning stage, actually getting started on a comic page becomes utterly frustrating! It’s much easier to make multiple changes to your panel layouts and shot composition on a tiny fake page, than on a full sized sheet of paper.

I like to think of them as comic seeds, tiny things that contain all the information you need to make the full size comic.

Everyone's got Deltarune on their mind since Chapter 2 dropped the other day! I’m really enjoying the update as well. I used to make tons of Undertale fanart including a series of terrariums featuring settings from the game. It’s hard to pick a personal favorite but I’m particularly fond of this snowglobe artwork I did five years ago. 

 I would love to do a stained glass piece or terrarium featuring a scene from Deltarune. Do you have any suggestions?

#peptoberday13 es sobre “colaboraciones”! 😍 Me encanta hacer proyectos con otras marcas que tienen puntos de contacto con la filosofía #happimess y encarar otros soportes que me desafían… porque me obligan a aprender cómo aplicar mis ilustraciones en otras escalas o con otros sistemas de producción. 🙌 Es una verdadera escuela trabajar con nuevos equipos, es muy satisfactorio compartir mis procesos y celebrar juntes el resultado. En este carrousel pueden ver los empapelados que creamos con @enamoradainterioresfelices para llevar ese toque mágico, “quirky” y “desorden feliz” a distintos ambientes: la pared de una oficina, un baño, un dormitorio, una sala de yoga… hay versiones “mural” que funcionan más como una declaración artística en espacios grandes y versiones “patrón continuo” que aplican mejor en paredes pequeñas (el toilette es sin duda EL LUGAR para probar un empapelado si tenés ganas pero no sabés por dónde arrancar). Es una forma económica de personalizar y dar identidad a espacios comerciales (salones de yoga, belleza, un consultorio, etc) en poco tiempo y con la seguridad de cuál será el resultado final. Los empapelados son geniales para darle estilo a paredes que no se pueden intervenir de otras maneras. Las chicas de @enamoradainterioresfelices tienen mil tips y recomendaciones al respecto.
