With one day to go until we announce the Best Picture Books of 2019 with #FindMeStories_2019, and nothing but snow, cold, and grey, overcast skies here in Toronto, I have the perfect book to put you all in a cheery, colourful mood today! "Up and Down the Andes: A Peruvian Festival Tale" (2008) by Laurie Krebs and Aurélia Fronty, is like a wonderful South American trip in a picture book. Reading it aloud, the story's lilting rhymes bounce along like the various modes of transportation described, up and down through the mountains, as we take in the views, the local costumes, and so much more on the way to the Incan festival of Inti Raymi, honouring their Sun god (and what better time for it than now?). A gorgeously colourful, wonderful read-aloud that has been a cherished part of my own collection for over a decade now.
