Bisti / De-Na-Zin Petrified Log. It's hard to imagine that this was once a riverine delta that lay just to the west of the shore of an ancient sea. The Western Interior Seaway covered much of New Mexico 70 million years ago. This petrified log gives a hint of what was.

When in @vegas, you must get off the strip and head to @valley.of.fire! Pro tip: go early. The line for entry was long as left. We had the entire place to ourselves at 8:30 am. Pack water and snacks and respect the signs. Some areas are fine for climbing others are not. Cost: 10.00 per car. Our National Parks annual pass was not valid here. This was the best 10.00 that we spent in Vegas. I thought that we’d spend 2 hours exploring and 4 hours later, we left the park only because tacos were calling. It’s worth the 1 hour drive from Vegas to this massive state park. We saw big horn sheep and mountain goats and heard snakes.
