Tonight we are drinking: • Hyde Park Swizzle •4 mint leaves •2oz dry gin •.75oz fresh lime •.75oz simple syrup •2 dash Angostura bitters •2 dash Peychaud’s bitters In shaker gently muddle 3 mint leaves. Add remaining ingredients (except for bitters) and dry shake. Pour into Collins glass. Fill glass with crushed ice. Add bitters and swizzle to chill. Garnish with mint sprig and serve with a straw. • OK, we needed this tasty cocktail after a day of tropical storm Ilsa! Not much wind, but the rain caused some panic in the basement a couple times. Daily MCO Drink #692: ROME IS BURNING, made with 45ml Remy Martin VSOP, 22.5ml Dolin Rouge vermouth, 3 dashes Peychaud’s Bitters, 5ml grenadine syrup, stirred over ice and strained, then topped with 45ml sparkling wine. Can’t say I’m a big fan of that hint of grenadine in there, but the Remy Martin VSOP more than covers for that indiscretion, with the aparkling wine helping to acentuate thise sweet cognac notes rather than the more sickly ones from the grenadine. Today’s Aperitivo is inspired by the upcoming Tales of the Cocktail event down in New Orleans (Hurricane Barry sucks!!) and last week’s drink (Trinidad Sour) : The New Orleans Sour. 1.5 oz - Peychaud’s Bitters 3/4 oz - Star Anise Simple Syrup 3/4 oz - Lemon Juice 1/2 oz - aquafaba 1/2 oz - Rye Whiskey -Dry shake aquafaba, lemon juice and simple syrup for 15-20 seconds.
