- Peyton is a born werewolf, her parents had been in Syndico before they died. She grew up loving and respecting everything about being a wolf and part of the original pack, which she wore like a badge of honour. She looked forward to the day of her first change and even more so, the day she got her pack tattoo. She takes immense pride in being who she is, and respects the witches who help them more than anything.

- As soon as she had her first turn, Peyton was an unranked member of the pack. Her original plan had always been to be a Delta like her parents, but when she was 20, they were attacked and killed by vampires. Peyton was devastated, but the help of her pack got her through the hardest time in her life. After that, she realized what she wanted most was to be a Gamma so that she could be that support and guidance for new wolves.

- Peyton isn’t particularly ambitious, she wants to make her parents proud by the time she joins them in the next life, but she knows that just being happy is what they would most want. She respects the hierarchy completely and has no desire to cause any kind of chaos. She is much more the type of person so be calm in any situation and resolves issues. That is until an outsider hurts one of her pack, her family. Then the rage she keeps at bay comes out full force in order to protect and defend her own.

From the time Mackenzie Elizabeth Ross was born, she had been shoved into the spotlight by a doting mother and father who had big dreams for their curly haired, bright eyed child. In their eyes, she was going to be the next Shirly Temple, and considering that was all she had known from the beginning, Mackenzie had been on board. Saying lines, learning songs, and doing dances was as easy as counting to ten, but as she grew older, Mackenzie had found herself becoming bored with all of it. There was no challenge in learning lines. Choreography was something she could do with her eyes closed. Sure, she was a triple threat, but she had wanted more. And by the time she was thirteen, the skilled actress had discovered the rush of stunts…well, in a minimal capacity, but it had put her on a path of learning all she could, so when her 18th birthday had arrived, she would be ready to take her career to the next level.

Jump ahead five years, and the day she was waiting for had finally arrived. A contract for a new TV show had come across her agent’s desk and while it wasn’t packed full of action, it would regularly involve minor stunts, gags, and falls. A good way for her to dip her toe into the water. But little did Mackenzie know, the show would become a hit and carry her through to the day she took her last breath as a part of the living.

With ratings taking a dive for the first time in four years, all bets were riding on Mackenzie and the rest of the cast to pull off one of their most daring episodes yet. She had been comfortable with everything asked of her since starting the show, but desperate times were starting to call for desperate measures and after a lengthy meeting with one of the network heads, along with the solid threat of being written off the show and out of Hollywood, Mackenzie Ross reluctantly agreed to doing the most dangerous scene of her career.

The first run through had been dicey and did nothing to help her nerves, but after a few more tries, and mostly the director yelling at everyone to get the damn thing done already, Mackenzie stepped forward on the platform. Hearing the word action, the twenty-three year old took one final deep breath to try and shake away the nerves before diving head first into what was supposed to look like a deep hole in the ground, but when the rigging department failed to pull her back at the right time, the young actress landed on top of her head with a hard thud and snap leaving her motionless.

Production had ceased and word had already started to spread that Mackenzie Ross was killed in an accident on the set of her hit TV show. However, before an on-set medic could even reach her, the young woman was already starting to come around. Traumatized from what had just happened, but in shock of how she was even still alive, or so she thought. Both luckily and unluckily for her, the higher-ups had made sure that word was kept quiet. This was not going to be the final nail in the coffin of a show they had spent millions on over the past several years.

Somehow for Mackenzie though, word seemed to spread that she was invincible, and whether people believed it or not, it started to lead to bigger and better roles. And all while navigating her so-called overnight success, she was also having to manage the changes that were happening within her body, including a craving for brains. A change that only her assistant had become privy to knowing. It was like a fantasy and a nightmare all wrapped in one, but just as quickly as it had seemed to happen, it had ended when a desperate attempt to satiate her need for food resulted in the death of the man she had planned on spending the rest of her life with.

The reality of what she had done, when she could finally think straight again, hit her harder than the day she broke her neck. In a panic, Mackenzie called her assistant to help her clean up the evidence, putting them both at risk if they didn’t do a damn good job. And with a quickly executed plan of fleeing to a remote part of the country, Mackenzie Ross, one of the hottest young actresses at the moment, found herself in Wicked’s Rest, Maine alone, on the verge of a meltdown, and guilty of murdering the love of her life.

Small town life, even though she’s desperate to stay out of the spotlight, isn’t fitting very well. She misses the freedom she once had, before the fiancé incident, and she misses her family and her dog, Bixby.

Mack had finally started to branch out into music and had released her first successful single before life…err unlife went to hell.

While Mackenzie has been portrayed as being bright and bubbly in the media, she has a darker side most people don’t know about. Her job at Dance Macabre has given her an opportunity to let it show a little more.

Sure, he was a little naive, but movies told him that didn’t really matter. He had HEART, and he could lift his dad’s truck up to check its suspension like it was nothing. Yet for whatever reason, a nice smile and an earnest introduction just brought him ridicule and distrust. THE THREATS NEVER CAME TO PASS — not once a punch from the strongest guy on the football team couldn’t land, and Herc remained standing as if it was a fly that pummeled into his chest. Still, his hidden power just painted him more of a freak. He was ostracized, stigmatized but, most prudently, he was CONFUSED. Why didn’t he belong here, in this world where kindness, strength and sincerity were supposed to be celebrated ? OUT IN THE REAL WORLD, it started to fall into place . His get-go attitude was appreciated ( when it benefited the other party ). His strength was admired ( when it came with a wink or win for the team ). He found that helping people helped himself and, truthfully, he didn’t mind that. In fact, he figured that's how the world should work — karma, or something akin to it. BUT HERC’S NAIVETY will forever be his Achilles' heel. He trusts too easily and, worse, he refuses to entertain the idea that believing the best in people could ever be a character flaw. He’s not all brawn and no brain, he just doesn’t want the world to CORRUPT him the way he’s seen it corrupt others. He wants to make his parents proud. He wants to make Phil and Peyton proud. And if the risk is a lifelong representation as a dumb jock, so be it. When he finds his place, everyone there will love him for who he is. THOUGH HE DOESN’T KNOW IT, Evermore is the most at home Hercules has ever felt. The people here are a little odd, just like him. He goes to the gym regularly, he helps people who need it, his parents are fed and content, and he feels inches away from … belonging? But that hope doesn’t sit alone, and a looming fear drips like a slow poison into his bloodstream. Something dark is following him, and he worries he won’t be strong enough to face it head-on.

Hercules currently lives in a small, modest apartment, just twenty minutes driving distance from his parents, AMPHITRYON and ALCMENE. His parents were honest about the circumstances of his adoption when he was ten years old, but he’s never seen them as less than his mom and dad, and he’d lift the world for them. Still, on quiet nights he does ponder the details of his biological parents — why they let him go, and if they might explain his supernatural strength.

Though his name’s on the lease for UPPERCUT CLUB, he’s not exactly ‘business minded.’ Phil deals with pretty much everything ( and deals is exactly what he does ). Hercules is the FACE, and it’s a job not done by halves — he’s a little embarrassed, actually, to see photos of him in tight gym gear plastered all over the shop, in local magazines, and grinning nervously from the gym’s Insta stories.

Hercules has a Greek Shepherd called LAILA, named after Lailaps, the myth of a magical dog who was destined to always catch its prey. When he saw the story on the little white card at the shelter, he felt an immediate connection with her — a creature with a gift that, under the wrong influence, could easily become a curse.

Over time, he’s become very settled into routine. He blames Phil’s training regimes, mainly. He’s up at dawn, protein shake and egg on toast, 10K run with Laila, food shop for his ma and pa, PT sessions and group classes, dinner in Uppercut’s office ( meal prep from Sunday ), and home in time for some light TV. It’s almost, sort of, dare he admit it, boring ? And something inside of him yearns for an extra drip of danger in his daily life.

He’s a SOFT ROMANTIC and extremely inexperienced. Catch this boy blushing and stuttering at the mere glance from a pretty lady but, if ever the time comes, he’ll be at the door with flowers trying his damn best not to mess it up.

i mean aside from people taking the word of a notorious clout-chasing liar and conspiracy theorist at face value...peyton just doesn't understand or even really care about history when it does not directly benefit him. full disclosure i have not read the thread since it was first posted but it is burned into my memory unfortunately, i also don't know a lot about lma as a historical figure

aside from cherry picking quotes from lma's diaries there were no actual sources. nothing from her biographers, no secondary scholarship at all. it was just peyton presenting quotes purposefully stripped of their context in order to further a point that he wanted to be right.

this should be like. queer history for pre-schoolers but people in the past who were or may have been queer understood themselves and their queerness differently than people do today. peyton is incapable of looking at queerness outside of his very specific 21st century lens. could louisa may alcott have been a trans man? possibly! could she have also been cis and/or gnc? sure! could she have simply been writing in both her private and personal lives about how suffocating the experience of being a woman in the 19th century was? yeah. we have no way of knowing which of this could be true, and whether they overlapped at all. queer history exists in shades of possibility. in some cases (and we're going to use trans men contemporary to lma), like those of albert cashier and charley pankhurst, we can pretty definitely say that they were both men; that being a man was essential to their continued survival, that they would have wanted to be remembered as men. in other cases, it's more slippery because the taxonomy we use nowadays to classify ourselves and especially our differentiation of gender identity vs sexual acts is SO recent that it does a disservice to classify all historical queerness with it.

it's insane that there are MULTIPLE notable 19th century trans men in american history at the time lma was living and he still was like no this is not good enough for me i can only emotionally relate to something if i can force my own image onto it. that's really the problem here, not the shoddy history and the deliberately misleading language, but the fact that peyton is seemingly incapable of enjoying or relating to a piece of media or a person if he cannot find a direct comparison to his own life. he did the same oh "(x) was 100% absolutely a trans man if you tell me wrong you're transphobic" thing with katharine hepburn (iirc??) a few years back and this is a personal gripe but having read a 600+ page bio of hepburn that was very generous to several queer readings of her life: lol. lmao even. his insistence of flatting the experience of anyone with a moderately fucky gender into "you're either Like Me or your not" is so purposefully stupid.

like, do all the trans readings of little women you want! i myself made a deranged little women trans post a few weeks ago. but lma isn't a fictional character who you can apply different literary lenses to! she was a real human person whose relationship with her gender we will never fully understand because we were not there. at some point you just have to accept that it is not your business. why are you so desperate for any shred of historical representation that you are willing to exhume the dead in order to out them?

peyton relates to jo march, so he insists that reading jo as a trans man is the only (morally) correct reading. he likes little women but has to make it fit the public view of transness that he is made his personal brand. i actually followed him for longer than i'd care to admit, and it's a trend with any piece of media that he is publicly into that he has to make a character a trans man in order to relate to them.

he also has this deranged idea that any author writing with emotional depth about the """opposite sex""" must have been trans. see the article he wrote for the niche about how must have been a trans man because he gave dido's emotions and the collapse of her marriage to aeneas the same "dignified treatment as any sprawling, epic battlefield scenes." [direct quote] the article is literally called " vergil had a pussy and i'll prove it." no further comment.

one of his "proofs" is that lma was called "lou" by her family, which he then proceeds to call her for the rest of the thread. lou is....a very normal nickname for louisa both now and then. you know what else was a 19th century nickname for louisa? wheezy. imagine that same thread but he calls her wheezy alcott. thank you, good day.

Mairi's childhood was spent indoors where she wasn't allowed to play. her father was a domineering man who would force Mairi into aligning with his pre-concieved notions of what a daughter should be like. one day, her mother found her fur and escapes, never to be seen again. Mairi mourned the loss of her mother for a long time, and her father equipped a more extensive measure to keep Mairi under his control.

Not a fanart? Someone grab the fainting couch! 😂So, these drawings are the earliest concept art I did for a superhero comic idea I have called Transcendent Trio. The story is still in its early planning phases, but it follows the Nightingales and their friend Cam Allard as they make their debut as vigilantes in the city of Ashmont.

Fun fact: I originally planned for this to be a romance novel series under the name Ashmont Vigilantes, starting with Cam's little sister, Peyton, in a marichat-esque situation. But then I watched Rise and these characters would not leave me alone.

Artemis and Apollo are twins, and Aster's their younger sibling. They live in a world where people with powers--called paras--are a thing, but are a marginalized class (similar to the mutants in X-men). Even given that, though, they stick out as unusual. Dawn and Yuna are their parents (yes, both are bio parents because of science shenanigans).

Cam is from a large family of vigilantes and lives with her older brother, Nic. (His last name is different? Giving off vibes of Batman's adoption addiction? Miiiight be just a teensy, weensy, monumental amount of inspo there...😅😅😅) Nic's a retired vigilante and Cam has never been interested in that, though she is more than happy to help out behind a computer in an ops capacity.

I'm happy with Cam and Aster's design, but I'm still tweaking the twins. Nic has already gotten a rework, while Dawn sorely needs one (I envision her as a lot more buff). Yuna will probably remain more-or-less the same, but both she and Dawn need to be given face wrinkles to look their age (early 50s).

There will be more art from Transcendent Trio (and the greater Ashmont Vigilantes world) coming up, so I'll talk more about the characters in future posts.

Mariette Hartley

played the role of Patricia Clark in 911 abc (then fox). She was the severely ill mother to 911 dispatcher, Abby [Connie Britton].

She had a major part in early episodes of season 1, eg 1x02 'Let go', which had suicide as a major theme. Interestingly, she was a founder of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention after speaking about several cases of suicide in her family. Her grandfather was the Behaviourist Psychologist J. B. Watson, of the Little Albert experiment fame. All his children were raised strictly, with a total absence of physical affection.

Mariette Hartley has had a very long and varied career, in TV shows, theatre, and movies. A recent film [2022] was semi-biographical, about her third marriage to Jerry Sroka: Our (almost completely true) Story.

Where you know her earlier work will depend on your fandoms, I guess. Some may know her for the Westerns like "Ride the High Country" while others may know her for screamers like vampire film "The Return of Count Yorga".

She played Zarabeth in the Star Trek (TOS) TV series (see this great Spock edit - she is the kiss in the cave), had a role in a few Columbo episodes, and appeared in the OG Hulk series [see more on the Hulk connection with Lou Ferrigno here].

Elise was born in Huntsville, youngest of 3 children, and she took to the youngest sibling role very well. Her parents were well off and treated her like she could do no wrong, so she grew up taking advantage of that and learning how to put the blame for things she did on others. She got comfortable with coasting through life, especially since she was only 10 when the paradox hit. Ever since then her motto in life has been do whatever the hell you feel like doing because you could die tomorrow anyways. 

She was very much a mean girl throughout her school years, and that has carried into her adult life as well. She does whatever feels like it will amuse her in the moment, which often involves belittling others or toying with people. As an adult now, the only ones safe from her torment are her family members like Carmen, who only get teased instead of fully torn down. She has also done pretty well with her innocent act which she saves for when it’s necessary, she truly believes if she could have escaped this town, she would have become an actress. Or an influencer, to her that would have been the dream. Instead she helps Peyton with her ration card forgery business and does every kind of manipulation she can to get out of doing anything remotely resembling work.
