getting caught up on rvb: zero and heres my thoughts(tm)

- i do think rvb: zero feels more like a spinoff/side series than a genuine rvb season. it makes me think of the arc where agent washington was introduced, but we didnt know anything about pfl yet

- pacing feels rushed and they keep skipping over little things to get to the next big fight, like how washington’s past recovery, carolina’s broken arm, and the evil team stealing the key. what are their names again?

- speaking of wash, really wished he stopped getting hurt. has there been a season that didnt revolve around wash getting injured? and did any of those consequences actually stick around past the season it was featured it? 

- theres not a lot of stakes in here,, im more interested in the past story than i am with the main plot. i think starlight lab was mentioned in the past but?? who is this organization shatter squad works for? is it on chorus? why are carolina and washington doing freelance stuff when theyre practically war heros? when axel told carolina she wasnt alone bc she had the shatter squad,,, WHY. and dont tell me the other rvbs wouldnt go through hell for wash because they already did! several times!

- i had to google to make sure i wasnt mixing up viper and zero but i still have no idea who the blue buff guy is... holy shit, blue? buff? its evil caboose 2.0

- okay i ACTUALLY googled and?? viper is the team name?? zero is the leader?? and *phase* is the one with teleporting powers who may be axels daughter?? and diesel is still offbrand loco

- like,, this probably wont be the case but what if axel and zero were part of the resurrectionists way back when,,,

- also if a. phase is actually axels daughter and b. zero and axel were close buds and not related but had a falling out, that basically means zero took their kid in the divorce

- why is west referred to as the father figure when axel is the one who adopted half the team

- didnt like raymonds first entrance but hes growing on me in the classic rvb way,, through quips

- honestly i miss the standing around and talking models... the animation is nice but its a little much. it felt much more powerful when only the major moments were animated

- if they had taken the time to set up the setting so i actually know who everyone is, and why these alien things are important, and why the rvbs are involved (maybe with an extra episode before the beginning.. episode 0, if you will) and the conversations felt more natural, i wouldve really love this series

okay so a spoiler free version of my rvb zero liveblog and overall final thoughts of the first ep:

it was meh. the new bad guys didn’t really capture my attention beyond phase’s (i think that’s her name? idk the chick with the black and pink armor) armor mod. i guess the mod itself is pretty cool but it feels very similar to one of the mods from pfl. don’t really have any thoughts about shatter squad yet either beyond them literally being freelancers 2.0.

what i do have thoughts about though, which is pretty unsurprising if youve been following me since i was agentcaito, is wash and how he’s written. and man you all thought i hated joe and jason’s writing of wash, (which i do) but i literally cant even begin to described how fucking dirty the new writer or writers have done him. wash has literally no competence what so ever. it’s like he’s not even a soldier! the only thing he has left is the dorky side of his personality. if i had to rate this new writer’s wash on a scale of 1-10, id rate him -10. i mean my expectations for wash were low, but what i was given was so much lower than what even thought imaginable for canon content. it’s like fanon wash was made canon, but he doesn’t even have any of his good fanon qualities. tbh i don’t even think i can call this wash wash in my personal opinion.

Oil leak from crankcase ventilation/oil seperator A3 PFL 2.0 TDI CUNA

My A3 has recently started drinking oil, it used to use 500ml to 1,000ml every 10,000 miles whereas more recently I am having to top up (with around 500 ml) every few thousand miles.

I noticed that there was oil building up all the way around the oil separator on the top of the engine and have pulled off the crankcase breather hose that runs to the turbo inlet to inspect. In this there was a large amount of oil/water emulsion building up within that hose. I have cleaned this out and it...

2019 Direct Mail Marketing Forecast: Seek and Google Shall Find

It’s that time of the year. Predictions abound about what technologies will take off, which will nudge their way closer to extinction, and how to benefit from all these changes.

Every forecaster has their own strategy for making predictions. You can go on a wild flyer and claim brilliance if it happens to come true. You can sound intelligent by making some prediction on some esoteric branch of Artificial Intelligence that few will understand, and we’ll only know if you’re right is when you tell us so. Or you can play it safe and cover all the bases like Greg Coticchia, one of my favorite LinkedIn thought leaders, did in his 3 Things That Will Happen Next Year article.

I’ll keep it simple and relevant. I’ll also give you a link so you can check, with one click, whether my prediction was correct.  

My 2019 Direct Mail Marketing Prediction

2019 is the year that Google searches for direct mail marketing will increase.

Pretty simple. Very relevant.

After declining considerably through the great recession, Google searches for the phrase direct mail marketing leveled out in 2013 and even saw a temporary uptick in 2017. I expect another uptick, if not the start of a new trend, in 2019.

Note: Google Trends is a service that shows the relative number of searches for a search term or phrase over time. Google doesn’t explain how the numbers are calculated, but the value of 100 is assigned at the beginning of the term and you can see how searches increase or decrease over time. It also allows you to compare multiple terms. 

I highly recommend taking a look at Google Trends. It is useful for everything from keyword research to deciding how to describe or name your products and services. 

Why Interest in Direct Mail Marketing Will Increase

Several events occurred in 2018 that will drive interest in direct mail marketing in 2019.

1. Digital Services Companies are Offering Direct Mail

MailChimp’s postcard service, which I reviewed last August, has exited beta phase. It is useful for sending triggered abandoned cart postcards or coupon promotions.

Canva, a popular service for easily creating social media graphics, now offers postcard templates that can be used to send postcards using the Canva system.

There’s also DirectMail 2.0, which integrates call tracking, retargeting using Google and Facebook advertising, and direct mail to provide multi-touch campaigns.

2. $50 Million of Investment in Direct Mail Automation

PFL (AKA Printing For Less) received $25 million from Goldman Sachs (Source: PR Newswire) in April. PFL’s Tactile Marketing Automation® software integrates personalized direct mail with the company’s CRM and marketing automation platforms. It allows companies to add direct mail as a channel in their automated marketing programs as easily as sending a triggered email.

Then in August, PebblePost announced it also received a $25 million investment from Advance Venture Partners. PebblePost’s Programmatic Direct Mail® works by retargeting online browsers with direct mail offers, allowing someone who clicked through a retailer’s product pages to receive a direct mail offering deals on those items.

3. Other Automated Direct Mail Product Launches

Several new services were launched or gained increase exposure last year:

Postalytics is an offshoot from the company that developed Boingnet. Boingnet is a service that commercial printers and mailers can use to provide integrated digital marketing and direct mail campaigns. Postalystics takes a different approach that is similar to PFL’s service. Postalytics is a direct mail service provider that integrates with a company’s existing CRM or marketing automation platform to deliver triggered direct mail based on consumer digital marketing interactions.

Inkit.io takes a similar approach to integrate direct mail with existing marketing automation and CRM platforms.

4. Integrated Campaign Solutions for Direct Mail Service Providers

All of the above services are competition to independent direct mail companies. There are several companies that provide platforms that commercial print and mailing services companies can use to create campaigns that integrate direct mail with digital marketing channels like SMS, email, landing pages, and microsites.

Three companies that have a long history of providing these services are MindFire, EasyPURL, and Boingnet, which was mentioned earlier.

So Will Direct Mail be Trending Upwards in 2019?

2018 saw a lot of significant investment activity and product launches that integrate direct mail with digital marketing channels. Combined with email fatigue, GDPR privacy laws in Europe, similar laws in the US being planned, and the growing controversies surrounding Facebook and personal data ownership, the time seems right for direct mail.
