I see we’re just reposting things without sources for some reason?? I’m going to go out on a limb here and say it’s because the tweet used the magic word “Zionist” which is taken to be “irredeemably evil and vile person”. For context, the context which that tweet purposely left out (and yeah I’m going to say it’s fucking purposeful) is this article by the NPR. Inside this article the allegedly pro-Palestine posts on social media were fucking videos of the Hamas on October 7th. So, yeah if you’re reposting antisemitic stuff (blatantly antisemitic too), fuck you.

The images that came out of Israel on October 7 were brutal and graphic, and the images coming out of Gaza for months now are constant, also brutal and horrific. All this violence is being shared on social media, and as KQED's Lesley McClurg reports, that's affecting the mental health of Americans with loved ones in Gaza and in Israel. As the days passed, it became harder to focus on her life and work in Oakland. HOWARD: Like, I just was so fragile. Is it “making the argument” to point out the hypocrisy of saying the Houthis (a terror organization) are protecting international laws and human rights when there’s documented evidence of Houthis perpetrating slavery, diverting humanitarian aid, and so on? Or you know, is it providing necessary context that readers might want to know?

And the comments below that tweet are awful (with a few exceptions rightfully pointing out accuracy of said community note and how slavery is in fact bad).

No, people are mad about civilians being massacred and taken as hostages by a terrorist organization. The lack of empathy is something.

Was wondering your thoughts on why the Spencer’s are supporting PH. Do you think he whined about how KC didn’t support him just like Diana? Or were they spying for BRF?

Not everything is a conspiracy. The Spencers are supporting Harry because he asked them to. That’s all.

The sisters show up for Harry pretty consistently. He’s probably in regular contact with them and invites them to everything so they come to everything.

Charles Spencer being there is more intriguing, and so is Charles and Harry having this big bear bro-hug for the cameras (which honestly felt very Godfather-ish to me, like someone’s about to get stabbed in the back). There was some kind of falling out from 2019-2023 between Charles and Harry that is now appears to be patched up and the big hug seems like a public validation that whatever their feud, it’s now over.

(Another anon speculated in the comments on the other post that Charles Spencer showed up to drive publicity for his latest book and maybe so, but I don’t see it. Charles’s book was published months ago; he’s not doing a PR drive now so making an appearance for book sales is a bit worthless.)

My guess is that when Harry learned the BRF wasn’t coming and the aristos were staying away, he leaned on the Spencer side to get the pedigree turnout so it looks like he’s still “one of them.” And they showed up still because that’s what they do. I suspect they show up more for Harry because William isn’t as close to them and being connected to Harry is how they honor Diana. They’d do the same for William if/when he’s needed them, and maybe they do but in a much more private capacity as he prefers. But because Harry likes playing these things out in public, we see the Spencers being with Harry more.

This year the Philippines went down four places in the Freedom on the Net 2023 report of the Freedom House. Previously with a score of 65 out of 100, the country’s score went down to 61 after the organization noted how conditions have worsened in the Philippines as outgoing president Rodrigo Duterte used an antiterrorism law to block news sites that had been critical of his administration.

Last June 2022, former National Security Advisor to the National Security Council Hermogenes C. Esperon, Jr. ordered the blocking of Bulatlat and 26 other websites.

In his capacity as the NSA, Esperon “requested” for the blocking of the 27 websites, alleging that they were affiliated to “communist-terrorist” groups, and citing the Anti-Terror Act as justification for the request. The order was left untouched when President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. eventually took office in the same month.

Freedom House also pointed out how the Marcos Jr. administration also required all Filipinos to register their SIM cards under their real name, undermining anonymous communication in what remains a dangerous environment for journalists and activists.

“The Philippines’ decline in internet freedom occurred amid an erosion of political and civil rights under former president Duterte, who completed his six-year term in June 2022 and whose war on drugs led to thousands of extrajudicial killings,” said Freedom House.

Developer Robert Cohen took a 55-year lease on the property in the mid-60s paying $650 a month to owner Suzanne Tiffany, and built the motel in the late 60s. On the motel’s right/north side was the Dunes’ driving range, which later became part of Bellagio. Jockey Club was later built on the motel’s left/south side. 

The motel was demolished in ‘98 and the “Tiffany lot” was leased for various use by Bellagio. MGM Resorts bought the 64.5 x 1100-foot, 1.62-acre lot for $54 million in 2023.

How many hornbill species are in the Philippines? There are 10*!

They are named after their horn-shaped bills, typically with a casque on top.

7 of the 10 PH hornbills are threatened*, and two of them are among the most endangered hornbills in the world. One of them is the Dulungan :(

Philippine scripts featured here are Tagbanwa, Hanunoo, Badlit, and Baybayin. Local names are from JC Gonzalez's "Enumerating the Ethno-ornithological importance of Philippine hornbills", published in 2011.

The national government's debt stock stood at P15.017 trillion as of end-April, 0.61% higher than the P14.925 trillion as of end-March, and 7.95% higher than the P13.911 trillion as of end-April 2023.

"[This is] due to government net financing and the impact of local currency depreciation on the valuation of foreign-currency-denominated debt," the BTr said in an accompanying statement.

Broken down, the end-April debt stock was 31.36% external debt, equivalent to P4.708 trillion, up 1.30% from P4.648 trillion in March, and 5.74% higher than the P4.453 trillion the year earlier. This was composed of P2.251 trillion in loans, and P2.457 trillion in external debt securities.

"Although there was a net repayment of P32.91 billion in foreign loans within the month, the considerable depreciation of the peso caused a P109.31 billion upward adjustment in the local valuation of US dollar-denominated debt," the BTr said.

The government's guaranteed obligations stood at P350.06 billion, marking a P10.02-billion or 2.89% increase from its end-March 2024, on the back of the P7.54-billion net availment of domestic guarantees, and the P3.80-billion impact of the peso depreciation on foreign-currency-denominated guarantees.

Domestic debt, meanwhile, accounted for 68.64% or P10.308 trillion, reflecting a 0.30% increase from P10.277 trillion the month prior and an 8.99% increase from P9.457 trillion the year earlier.
