The Collector taunting Belos and Belos lashing out had me 👁👁

The Collector had some pretty specific taunts locked and loaded and Philip couldn’t help but lash out at them “what if it’s changed, what if you’ve changed, you can barely hold your human form anymore” those are presumably Philips’ biggest fears that the world he once knew all those hundreds of years ago has changed without him and that he’s changed too much to go back… that he isn’t as human as he used to be and he can’t face the reality that he looks just like the thing that he’s spent his whole life hating and hunting. The sunken cost fallacy is one hell of a drug.

her ref has a very basic desc of her backstory bc i didnt wanna cram all that into a single ref sheet QSHSGHDG so heres more detail on it:

so before the dimension of CMYK exists as it does today, it belonged to a goddess called cykemia, said dimension was called "the gallery", and as cykemia was the goddess of art, design and creation, she would take items and things from the human world to her own gallery, this dimension was a sort of pocket dimension which has no connections to the human world and is unseen by humans and with her, she had an assistant, which is regeabel. she was created by the greater god in order to help cykemia, and as the days pass by since her creation, she was fascinated by cykemia, she didnt know what those feelings were, but they were rampant within her mind and body. after cykemias death, she tried to bring her back alive. and in order to do that, she must need a power source of sorts. she decided to take the human worlds electricity for that. this however did what it should've done, but in the wrong way. instead of cykemias corpse being brought back from the dead. from her blood unfinished odd creatures would arise. and these creatures would later develop into the inks we know and love today, however before inks had a chance to gain consciousness and meet her, she disappeared. and as it goes today she is only known as small bits and pieces of a mystery ink-ish being that isnt an actual ink. her attempt to use electricity also caused the gallery world to sort of mesh with the human world, but not completely. since at least the late 90s, rarely but sometimes, if a human is just watching tv or playing an arcade game or listening to the radio, there may be whats called a "connection". for as brief as a few seconds to as long as a few minutes, they may have a peek at CMYK, and sometimes even spotting or hearing and ink. on the inks end, all they see is a pair of surreal eyes staring at them for as long as the connection is active. this has given rise to forums and videos about this strange phenomenon of creatures being seen through tvs and radios and wondering about what they are.

belos has no clue what trans people are. he just takes everything people tell him as fact with stuff like that because why question it? he wasn't taught to question that kind of stuff. he'll occasionally be like 'ah. that must be some kind of witch thing,’ when he hears someone's neopronouns but just... old, cursed man, hearing but not remembering shit. not a clue. not a thought behind those eyes. he could empty highlighters going through the DSM. he's been having nightmares for the past hundreds of years— he doesn't have time to deal with someone else's gender, he has to get rid of these damn witches!

We start with the obvious, Grant wrote a book and is a librarian. College educated, masters in library science maybe? Anyway the boy likes his literature, this is canon and I love him.

Now for the fun part

As Lark got older, and with the Close-Foster-Freeman custody nightmare, Lark turned to Glenn as a father figure. Glenn, as Glenn does, tried to share his passion for music with his new protege. But Lark was never any good with writing the rhymes, and strict rules that go into writing songs and verses and choruses. What he DID love was poetry. Irregular rhythm and odd rhyme schemes, and when life felt too hard to explain he found that someone somewhere had felt that way before, and had written it down. Every time it felt like a love note passed through history, the reassurance that this too shall pass, whatever this was at the moment he was feeling it.

And Grant got that. By all means they didn’t agree on everything, (Lark still can’t understand Grant’s objectivity when it comes to the Plath Vs Hughes debate*) but when Lark was overwhelmed and couldn’t process what was emotionally and mentally exhausting him, Grant knew how to help.

When they’re still teenagers, Grant reads Lark Stephen Crane’s ‘in the desert’ and uses it to help reframe how Lark thinks about himself in relation to his guilt, and his self loathing and self destructive patterns. That even though your heart is bitter, it’s still your heart. And it gives him permission to forgive himself for the mistakes he made when he was 12 years old

Lark found no shortage of poetry about having mixed feelings about your parents and not knowing how to talk to your dad, side note there is so much of those poems, Tony Harrison, Sylvia Plath, Philip Larkin - I could go on but damn I’ve written so much already. more poetry HCs in the tags also
