I've just seen the announcement (link) that Masaaki "Maruta" Taniguchi of Phnonpenh Model died...gallbladder cancer apparently. I had no idea he was in poor health because the band has (rather suddenly) become so active again in the last year...I'm glad he was able to keep performing like that in spite of it. RIP to a legend.

Today is the 20th birthday of Phnonpenh MODEL's first album, Desk Top Hard Lock. This is the title track, and the only song on the album credited to the whole band (Kotobuki and Lion Merry, who are credited for arranging everything on the album, Shonen Maruta, who mostly wrote lyrics for songs by Lion Merry for this album, and Thaniya Patpong, whose only credit is for this song and it's pretty much impossible to find more information about this person) and Yasuchika Fujii. Interestingly, this the only song by P-MODEL/related electronic bands where he gets writing credits (well, he also got credited for the lyrics of ERROR OF UNIVERSE, but that was pretty much him, Kotobuki and Akiyama banging on a AMIGA keyboard).

Today is the 20th birthday of Phnonpenh MODEL's first album, Desk Top Hard Lock. For this album, Kotobuki re-worked 3 songs he wrote for P-MODEL: Neoteny BOX (with a new intro), LAB=01 (as an a capella number) and this song, which is a reworking of the OPENING SE used in P-MODEL shows of 1992.
