kazuha fondly watching these two kids interact with each other because they're kind of the opposite from each other. maple, who has a gentle glow and kind, but shy, smile, and phoenix who has their walls up high and barely a semblance of childlike glee in their empty and tired eyes. maple comforting phoenix who had never really opened up to anyone before. phoenix who just discovered how good it feels to not bottle up all their pent up emotions and ends up crying because they've never felt this kind of comfort before :(

after phoenix calms down, they help the two kaedeharas around the landscape of mondstadt and showing them the best spots that their uncle kaeya took them to. in turn, maple tells them of stories from inazuma and the pretty places they've seen on their journey in liyue. just two little souls enjoying the comfort of hanging out with someone their age. kazuha's just there watching over them and making haikus because this is honestly such a wonderful moment.

later, diluc would notice the different aura around phoenix. he doesn't know why, but he feels warm knowing that phoenix had a good day.

Perhaps the electro vision held by Phoenix never symbolised a happy family for eternity - but a void of loneliness left by the one person they hoped to spend forever with.

phoenix would never feel proud of themselves in any way just because they think they're not enough. well, if even their father doesn't acknowledge their achievements, then surely they're not enough yet. grades, manners, social achievements, strength, everything is not enough for diluc to even spare them a glance (he did look at them. he's proud that they reached this far without even needing him. he just didn't know how to feel about that, knowing that they can do better without him. nevertheless, he'd always look after them. he just wasn't showing it enough). so maybe if they study harder, train harder, work harder, then just maybe, he'd look their way and acknowledge them. not just someone who is competent and independent, but also as his child.

as long as diluc doesn't look their way, that vision is not enough. nothing ever will be.

Sorry for the late reply but for the Dad Diluc Brainrot (hurt/comfort mostly, i think); What happens if the torture was too traumatizing for the kiddo to the point of being unresponsive- like they are physically healthy but just not there, like a living corpse, and not even Kaeya could help. The sense of helplessness that Diluc would face in actually stepping up to finally be their dad, to atleast see his precious baby's smile once more.

Or, Diluc having someone, anyone like Kaeya or Adelinde or Elzer or literally Venti sit him down and give him a wake up call. That he can't keep doing this forever, that if he would just look, paid attention, to his child for one second longer, he would realise they need their father as much as he want to be a father to them. That they aren't a mirror of his wife, they are their own person too. That everyone knows how much he wants to be their father but stops himself because of that line of thought. That he just easily give up on an idealistic dream of building even a slightest hint of a relationship with them, all because he never tries as much as he tries to convince himself otherwise. Or, the child blaming themselves for their father being so unhappy, all because they were born. The bittersweet and traumatizing realization that if they weren't born, their mother would've lived and Father would be able to smile without care. So, they began to distance themselves to the point of giving up all hopes of even a familial bond to the point they cease calling themselves a Ragnvindr, they stop referring to Kaeya as their Uncle and Diluc as their father. And they live like a shadow, being as unremarkable and average as possible, tossing aside any and all hobbies and working hard to do the bare minimum of not being a stain to Diluc's name, since if their birth brought about so much pain, how could they have the right to be happy. (Add an argument to prelude it, they blurting out it would've been better if they weren't born and him agreeing to it, for extra angst but my kokoro can't take it sadly) And, finally. Imma end it in a happy note. Diluc and Kaeya watching from afar as Klee babysit MC ( and by that, i mean bring MC fish blasting). Diluc and Kaeya would watch with exasperated, and with a tiny hint of worry expressions but a small smile would creep up Diluc's face watching the two of them have the time of their lives fishblasting, with carefree smiles (until Jean arrives).

but these are all understandable too, because at some point in their life, mc would question others on what happened to their mother. knowing the truth is like a blow to their heart, a child being aware that their mother died of giving birth to them. mc will carry the burden in their shoulder for their whole life, even if they reconcile with diluc, it'll forever be in the shadows of their head.

if there's anyone who can step up and actually slap reality to diluc, it would be kaeya. ever since mc was born, he had stepped up as a father figure to the poor child. but he knows diluc needs to see that he can't always wallow in his misery. kaeya even goes as far as correcting mc whenever they accidentally call him 'dad' :(. heck he'd fight diluc to punch some sense on his head.

i think at times like these, diluc's father instincts would jump right out along with some... personal feelings involved, because there is no way that he'd allow anyone to talk like that to phoenix. sure he hasn't been a good father to them, but he won't let others lay a single hand on phoenix, not even talk to them in that manner.

also, there's no guarantee that diluc would pull out his claymore because he's not calm in any way right now.

it was supposed to be a quick errand, a quick walk, a peaceful day for you and your uncle kaeya on his rare day off. you've just came from good hunter, eating lunch with kaeya, before setting home. but your uncle claimed to have something for you, so he went away for a while to buy something.

the moment he turned his back, you felt it.

the stares from everyone. they were watching you closely, you won't be surprised if they start talking about you to their peers, criticizing you as if they know you so well. and soon enough, a brave soul spoke.

it's a pitiful sight, really. a grown man staring down at a child no older than seven (7) as if you massacred his whole lineage.

you could've handled it on your own, honestly. you've learned to talk back without sounding improper to situations like this, being around kaeya too much taught you that these kinds of people aren't the type to back down if you don't put them in their place. you've seen how diluc talk his way around business men who knew nothing but to leech off of others, people who are all talk but lacks the brain to act. those meetings were boring, but if diluc wanted you to be there then who are you to refuse?

you didn't expect that diluc himself would be around to hear this man humiliate you in front of others.

it felt unfamiliar, yet it put you in so much ease.

"oh! i was just, um," the stranger's hand went up to scratch at the back of his neck, "i was just joking around!"

"oh really?" diluc took a step closer to the man, his hand leaving a lingering warmth on your head that you wished didn't go away.

"eh!?" you watched him raised his claymore right next to the trembling man's teary face, "f-father wait—"

"now, now, phoenix," an eerily cold hand rest upon your shoulder, prompting you to look up to see your uncle's amused face watching the scene unfold. "let the adults do their thing."

he sends you a wink, merely patting your head before looking onwards. he seemed to not care that he's the cavalry captain who's supposed to stop whatever your father's going to do but...

"let me make this crystal clear for you so people like you would understand, i am far from joking around," diluc lowered his claymore down, strucking the edge to the ground. he seemed to speak in a higher volume too, as if he intends to make everyone hear whatever he's about to say. "no one has the right to talk to my child like that—" you feel your heart burst in happiness at hearing those words, "—you're a grown man, who are you to treat a child like that in the first place? what are you? some pathetic high status man who boast about his riches to children? that's just ridiculous and childish."

"if you're going to criticize phoenix, then i advice you look at yourself in the mirror," diluc tilted his chin up as if to degrade this man with just his stare, "you think you're oh so great and whatnot, i bet my phoenix can do so much better than you."

your hands went up to cover your gaping mouth, gasping along with the crowd of people that were gathered around to witness one of the rare moments that diluc loses his composure, if he even loses his composure at all.

you can feel the onslaught of tears building up behind your eyes, your heart leaping out from your chest to scream out. you haven't lived long yet, but he had never been like this when it comes to you oh he has, he just doesn't show it. sure, he always addressed you as his child when meeting business acquaintances and peers, but never with such pride and... love.

kaeya looks down when he hears your quiet sniffling, smiling fondly at the way you try to discretely wipe your tears, feeling extremely at ease at the certain sparkle in your eyes that he had never seen before.

"i will say this one more time and i don't care how many times i have to repeat it until your brains understand," diluc's claymore disappeares as he turns to walk back to you. he settles a hand on your shoulder before looking right at the crowd of people.

"no one is allowed to ever talk like that to my phoenix. even if you do so without my knowledge, believe me when i say that i will know of it once and for all."

"oh, don't worry," kaeya speaks up, "i'll make sure you do~."

diluc gently nudges you to walk forward, his hand still on your shoulder as he walks towards the gates of mondstadt with kaeya on his heels, his jaw still clenched and grumbling under his breath.

"that's quite a spectacle you put out there huh," kaeya teased once the three of you are a few distances away from the gate.

"shut up," your father sneered, "and in what way did you think that leaving phoenix out there is okay!?"

"i can't exactly bring them inside cat's tail!" kaeya raises both his hand in defense, "besides, i was supposed to buy them the special nonalcoholic drink that cat's tail was serving. it won't be much of a surprise if i take them with me, right?"

as if on cue, he hands you a cup of something cool and baby blue in color, patting your head when you mumbled your gratitude.

"still, that's careless! what if someone tried to abduct them on spot?"

"what do you suggest i do then?" you didn't know how it was possible, but kaeya's smirk seemed to have turned a little more smug, "oh i know! maybe you should start taking them out for a walk yourself. you know, something that normal fathers would do to their child? that way, you could monitor their safety instead of wallowing in self pity."

"why you—!"

you couldn't help the giggle that escaped your throat, lips pursed together to stop the bubbling laughter from escaping your mouth. the two brothers turn their heads to look at you in surprise, both having not heard you giggle since you were a toddler.

"uh," you turn away to hide the embarrassed look on your face, deciding to walk ahead of them and sipping on the cup. "i'm feeling a little tired. can we head home?"

"of course," diluc answers in a heartbeat, his mind running miles and miles in a few seconds.

you sounded so much like your mother just now, he thought as he walks behind, mental images of your mother's delighted face flashing before his eyes.

it's safe to say that you cherished this rare moment close to your heart.

And that is why im here to provide scenarios where Phoenix get someone better.

Soo right after running away after that big argument and getting into a life and death fight. Instead of falling into a big ravine that leads to the abyss, they fell right off a cliff and into the ocean.

Beidou and her crew probably found the kid floating on something and is nearly dead. She rescue the child and heal them up but because the extent of Phoenix’s injury they loss their memories. So now the entire crew basically adopted Phoenix. (Let’s just Phoenix hasn’t met the kaedehara siblings yet)

Or alternatively Zhongli found Phoenix who got wash up to Liyue. Took the child to Baizhu to heal up, found out the kid is suffering from amnesia and decided to take in Phoenix. So now baobei has a human sibling to play with while Xiao is on patrol or when Zhongli is too busy to look after them.

BEIDOU AND HER SECOND CHILD T^T

the crew adopted phoenix on spot the moment they said they don't remember anything. beidou would attempt to help them get their memories back to get them home, but naturally she'd be too attached to actually send them away. so in the meantime, she and her crew does their best to make this somehow stoic child who doesn't smile much and seems to have trust issues for some reason :'> she'd definitely send some letters to kazuha regarding the situation too! maple and phoenix seems to be the same age (maple's six and the current timeline where phoenix gets kidnapped in the au is nine, so no beidou phoenix's is older but does remember shit HAJSHAHAHA)

on the other hand, if they end up with zhongli, they may still end up meeting childe because y'know, human wallet thingz.

it'd be a little complicated if zhongli tries to introduce phoenix to xiao. phoenix is only a child and human, so they can't really stay around with xiao so they'd mostly be with zhongli, who sometimes asks xiao to bring baobei to the harbor so they could get along.

ngl the dynamic between baobei and phoenix would be so chaotic because baobei's a literal infant in adepti years and they'd literally run anywhere that catches their eyes. cue phoenix becoming an older sibling to them and being stressed BECAUSE SOMETIMES THIS LITTLE DEVIL CAN BE A HASSLE TO DEAL WITH AND THEY'RE AN ADEPTI SO NATURALLY A HUMAN LIKE PHOENIX WOULD FIND IT HARD TO MATCH BAOBEI'S ENERGY ACKCKKSF 😭

Little phoenix falls into the abyss instead of getting hurt by the abyss. They're running away after a big argument with him. Then trip and fall into this big ravine. They end up being there for 12 days but in the abyss that's a year. By the time they return the sparkle in their eyes gone and they no longer Smile as sweetly as before. Their smiles almost fake. That is his child just not the same anymore, and they now wheeled a weapon they never did before and have a cyro vision. Maybe he could have done something to stop this... all he knows... it's his fault.

Little phoenix calls him master diluc and Kaeya now dad (with kaeya saying it's ok). He must have heard that wrong. His child just called Kaeya dad. He probably just misheard what they said. But then they do it again, and again, and again. When they first called Kaeya dad they apologized, when Kaeya why they called him dad. They respond that everything they've seen how a father acts and been told is what Kaeya did never what their father did. Every big events they had he showed up, never Diluc. When they got their Vision he helped, never Diluc. When they wanted to learn how to fight he helped, never Diluc. Every event in their life whether small or big Kaeya was there, never Diluc. Maybe it was the God's way of saying he messed up big time. To the point where he's no longer their father in their eyes.

They now were lying on the floor as the maid had taken them down with a rope hanging above them. They no longer had a pulse having been dead for a while. He found a note it said "I hope this makes things better for you dad. After all I took your only happiness when I came along. So if I'm gone you can be happy again! Please tell uncle Kaeya I love him and I'm sorry." -signed Little phoenix.

Phoenix's mother strikes me as being "perfect." There was no additional explanation of what she had done to earn the admiration and adoration of everyone in Mondstadt, leading Diluc to believe that the winds had been kind to him in finding his wife.

It was a time of calamity when the news first arrived. No matter how wonderful the relationship, a slight tone of resentment may be felt against Phoenix especially when they had sensed it from Kaeya, their father figure and Adelinde along with the other house and company staff that had raised them. They encountered fake smiles from the locals everywhere they went, frowns from the townspeople, taunting from the men their mother had turned down, and sympathy from the cathedral sisters when Phoenix entered to pray with a tear-stained face after “killing”:their mother. Not only had they taken the love of Diluc's life, but they had also taken the person who had been adored and beloved by everyone in the city of freedom.

Prayers for the Anemo Archon pursuing the Archon himself, and if only Diluc could grasp what the breeze had already been trying to tell him all these years: that his poor baby was also suffering as a result of losing their mother and his negligence as a parent.

phoenix can never get a goddamn rest, can they? everywhere they look, people are always expecting the best and only the best from them. they don't have to be obvious for phoenix to know that they're judging every move they make. evaluating them. comparing them to their "perfect" mother. comparing them to their "perfect" wine tycoon father. expecting only good things from them. surely they're as perfect as their parents, right?

it's tiring, draining, yet wavering will only cause a domino of insignificant reactions from these unwelcomed audiences. insignificant, but very taxing to deal with.

phoenix, at such a young age, knows how to distinguish a sincere smile from a mask. they know when to wear a mask of their own when facing these fake people who preach about freedom, yet judges someone's capabilities because they were raised in luxury. they learned how to charm others, to protect the image that their parents had built way before they had them. yet phoenix's only a child.

at times like these, kaeya is the only one they can lean on.

kaeya, who can see through the person that phoenix wants others to see. he can see the ghost of exhaustion behind their eyes and how they always seem to take deep breaths every few minutes, as if to compose themselves before turning to give a smile.

and when phoenix turns to give him a smile—one that seems to wobble in the tiniest way that only he seems to notice—he knows that it's time to intervene. he knows when to stir them away from the public's eyes in the guise of stealing his favorite (only) nephew/niece. he knows when to hold them in his arms, keeping them from breaking apart and whispering reassurances in their ear. things that they've never heard from diluc.

kaeya, who knows that enough is enough and desires to punch the truth on diluc's face. and we love to see that, go bitch slay >:D

Ehe anon back, and brought more food for thought.. Lil Phoe birth was not the thing to kill their mother, instead Mama Ragnvindr was slowly poisoned during the course of her pregnancy with slow acting but deadly poison by a traitor who held a grudge over the perfect couple, who will soon to be expanded into a perfect family- Except no one knew, not even Diluc.

Lil Phoe, inspired by their name of phoenix, somehow miraculously survived albeit with some health complications than didn't surface up until recently, not that anyone knew ofc. They were the last miraculous gift left behind by Mama Ragnvindr, not the thing that killed her since she was gonna die anyways. Imagine the guilt that will haunt DIluc, Kaeya and even the people of mondstadt when they found out the truth when lil phoe collapses in the middle of mondstadt, attacked and fatally wounded with a poisoned blade by the traitor who killed their mother years ago. The traitor, revealing the truth now that they were caught, if only to add salt to the already sore wound of how they ripped the innocence of a child, how they made them the target of maliciousness for a crime they did not commit but was a victim too...

And Lil Phoe, who struggles to heal from the wound because of the poison that lied dormant within their system that awakens with the introduction of the new poison. Who struggles to even breathe, let alone stay awake enough to see the tears sliding down Diluc's face as they administer as much first aid as possible, just so lil phoe would survive the run towards the church... and i went on a ramble again,, ehehe

for obvious reasons that i am a sucker for good endings, phoenix lives on with trauma but at least diluc's not a bitch ass excuse of a father anymore hahahaha your brainrots never fails to break me apart :'D

i'd imagine phoenix would randomly collapse throughout their childhood, a damage left by the poison that coursed through their mother's blood while they weren't born yet. they don't always get sick, but when they do, it always has to be tended to quickly because their body seems to deflate at the single sign of sickness. in the end, doctors would think it's just their immune system and wouldn't think that it's something that came from their mother. diluc always feels like there's more to it than that but he couldn't pinpoint what's wrong, so he just focuses on making sure that phoenix remains healthy.

Hear me out. Overachiever phoenix getting burnt out and throwing away their vision to someplace unreachable (Same anon as the vision user phoenix ask btw).

Slowly but surely, Diluc watches as his child - who he's always adored - lose the light in their eyes as the days pass.

Everyday it becomes harder and harder to look at phoenix (as if it wasn't any more difficult to do so before). Excited chants of "Papa!" become an echo of the past as empty eyes stare into Diluc's and a curt "father" cuts into him.

Meals that phoenix would have looked forward to become icy. Not even Diluc's pyro vision could warm his child's frozen state. Nothing could stop phoenix from leaving home to wander around Mondstat - searching for a purpose they had lost.

"How has your day been, [name]?"

"Ok, father."

Diluc never thought he'd see his past self in those eyes. He never thought how much it would twist his heart to see his child (the last gift given to him by his late wife) in this state. So he sends out a search party for the missing vision.

Anything to take away his pain. Anything to get his baby back.

i honestly think that seeing his young self in phoenix would be the last blow before he realized the damage that he had done to his own child :( young diluc was a past where he lost his way and felt the most loneliest in his life. phoenix had inherited almost everything about their mother except for the eyes that's identical to diluc, so to see the same empty orbs staring back at him as if he was looking at his past self is like a punch of realization for him.

i'd like to think that "papa" has a very different vibes from "father" too.

the first time diluc heard phoenix call him "father", he felt the temperature dropped and a chill traveled across his back. gone is the childlike tone that he always loves to hear from the hallways, now replaced by an icy tone that barely holds any resemblance of a child.

Okay- this idea has been sitting in my head once I saw the fatui ask. How would that happen? Well.

Imagine Phoenix hiding out in the forest. Alone, letting tears silently fall down their face, when an orange haired boy finds them.

Image the boy slowly approaching Phoenix, calming her down. Him introducing himself as trucer. Him speaking wildly of his large family in Snezhnaya, Phoenix feeling a deep out of jealousy in her stomachs.

Image the two meeting daily over the course of a month. (Phoenix doesn’t feel so cold anymore, Trucer is like Fire. So very warm). Childe follows his brother to his secret meeting spot and fines a lonely girl.

Phoenix knows she shouldn’t trust him, knows she shouldn’t feel as safe as she does with him (he feels safer then her own father), that she shouldn’t have gone and left with them.

But…. They may have been from the land of snow, yet they were the warmest people they know.

Years past, No knows where Phoenix is. They searched and searched and found nothing. They closest lead they had was a fatui harbinger in Liyue, but nothing came of that.

(Childe refused to let this man neglect Phoenix even more and not to mention, Tonia loves her younger sister.)

Over time, a new twelfth harbinger comes into play.

And during an attempt to take down the fatui operations their- Diluc runs into a cyro barring redhead. He runs into the new harbinger

He runs into his daughter- (Also did you know that it seems like all the users who have Cyro visions have abandonment issues- I won’t lie, Cyro fits Phoenix a little more not to mention, it’s easier for Uncle Kaeya to train them.)

it'd probably take long before phoenix could even consider leaving mondstadt and diluc. they knew the dangers that a fatui like childe can bring, the mask on his head and the way his eyes doesn't sparkle gave him away.

but isn't phoenix the same?

the reason why they feel so safe with childe is because they see themselves in his eyes. robbed of the childhood they should've had. a desire inside them that seeks to fill the void in their hearts. childe through fighting, and phoenix through seeking their father's love. yet the void in phoenix remains empty even as they tell themselves that this is where they belong, diluc and kaeya is their family and no one else.

but how come they feel more at peace with childe and teucer?

why does the man with a hydro vision from a land of frost feel more warm that their father who owns a pyro vision in the land of freedom, where he sun shines bright?

perhaps... phoenix resembled a moth drawn to the flame.

and diluc, resembled a candle. warm and bright at first, but slowly losing its form.

and phoenix's departure, was the last blow before diluc loses his flame, only leaving a trail of smoke in their wake but nothing else.

Imagine Phoenix instead of calling Diluc Father Papa Dad etc just calls them Master Diluc.

Diluc then realizes how he screw up and then trying to reconnect with as father and child. Of course little Phoenix has long accepted that their father doesn’t love them so they cant see the reason why Diluc os acting in such way

what a blow to diluc's poor heart deserve me thinks. he never shows it, but he's always love it whenever he hears them call him father. but even that will soon go away, he knows this as he watches phoenix grow up. it's an inevitable doom that he knows would happen.

to realize that he hasn't been a proper father to them, is to finally lose that title of "father."
