This unit is part of a suite of four related units which are available each year. They are:

This unit is available in both external and internal mode.

A study guide, complete with interactive tasks, supports knowledge and analytical skills shared through lectures, interactive tutorials, scenarios and case based exercises. There is a focus on the application of disaster management principles to real situations. You will access extensive reading materials including: case studies and reports, research papers, model plans, and relevant documents for critical appraisal and application to support a scholarly, evidence-based approach to practice. The unit is based on adult learning principles which recognise the variations in students’ experience and knowledge and provide opportunities for students to explore material in accordance with their individual needs.

This unit will include a block mode (5 days) component with online contact for liaison on clarification of content and/or issues arising from the intensive contact and assessment items.

NB: Lectures for this unit will be delivered during a five-day intensive block program to which all internal students are expected to attend, external students are also welcome. Although we will endeavour to audiotape the lecture and provide any relevant lecture notes, this relies upon the technology working properly on the day and can never be assured. Access to the lectures can only be assured by being there.

The Readings are intended to be read in conjunction with the Study Guide and Lecture Notes, and will often be the basis for the activities in the modules.

This unit is presented principally in an intensive block of lectures and other exercises in the second week of the semester. A detailed program is attached to this document. All assessment items are designed to reinforce your learning. Lectures and tutorials will include formative assessment through activities on selected topics. These activities are intended to help reinforce your understanding as you read through the various materials provided to you.

You should consider assessment as a further means of learning not simply a measure of success. The process of writing assignments helps you consolidate your thoughts into a fashion which is meaningful and useful to you and therefore helps you understand the concepts or principles. Similarly the preparation for examinations helps focus your thinking

Individual feedback will accompany each assessment item. Feedback will be also provided during in-class learning exercises

Assessment Item One: Workbook

At the end of each module, workbook exercises will be set which are designed as a review of the module. The workbook should be drafted prior to and during the intensive block program. Responses should be submitted online

The objective of the workbook is to help focus your learning by identifying issues of significance and to provide you with feedback

The workbook is a summative assessment, intended to assist you with progress in your learning

Ensure that you have pasted a copy of the question for each module above your answer for clarity

The response to each activity should not exceed two pages with standard text spacing; most could be done in far less space. Where there are sub parts to the activity the total should not exceed the two pages. It is up to you to decide how to weight the different parts within these pages, as some will take more time than others

Assessment Item Two: Case Report

Imagine you have been asked to write a detailed review of an incident for a response and relief agency. The questions posed are; “were they prepared, did they manage it well and did they recover well?

We will provide you with several events from which to choose one to analys

Students will undertake an examination of the event. A commentary of the event should be prepared including:

A description of the event

An analysis of how the event was managed and if that management accorded with the principles of effective disaster management throughout the cycle of preparedness, response and recovery

A discussion of how the lessons learned (both what went well and what did not go well) may be applied in the future

In addition the assignment should be presented to a high standard of academic writing with appropriate use of references

The assignment should demonstrate your analytical abilities, an understanding of the basic principles and the ability to identify and critically analyse the issues.

Students should undertake this task individually, although it is recognised that individual students may elect to examine the same event. If you are at all concerned then discuss your selection with one of the staff.

The word limit for this assessment must not exceed 3000 words. If you submit an assignment that falls well below, or exceeds this limit, it is likely you will lose marks for a lack of information at one extreme or for not being clear and concise at the other.

In 2017, the total value of merger and acquisitions (M&As) exceeded three trillion dollars. Some of the more notable M&As in the past year include Amazon’s acquisition of Whole Foods, Intel’s purchase of autonomous vehicle tech firm Mobileye, and Verizon’s acquisition of Yahoo, which became a high-profile example of the cost undisclosed data breaches have on valuations — in this case a $350 million drop in the final price tag.

To better prepare for the growing threat against corporate, customer, and employee data, companies are enforcing new data management and protection practices. One such change is the practice of requiring that each party in an M&A transaction demonstrate compliance with industry privacy and security standards before finalizing a deal. Under the new precondition, buyers and sellers are making more granular requests for visibility into the other side’s entire information repository and lifecycle to safeguard their own business assets and brands.

While the extent of required compliance varies with each buyer, seller, and deal, it is a key component now nonetheless. From pre- to post-M&A, all parties should consider how their privacy and data security posture could have a material effect on the proposed deal. To that end, here are a few key points to consider when you’re entering a deal:

Visibility into the entire information life cycle – How does a company that is contemplating an M&A collect, store, encrypt, and destroy personal data? What information is stored on what systems, and for how long? How is the information inventoried, mapped, and categorized? How, and with whom, is data shared? These are threshold questions for which any acquirer or target company should have answers.

What types of data – What types of personal data would potentially be involved in the transaction? For example, does the deal involve direct marketing contact information, personal data originating from new markets, or sensitive data that could subject the company to new, industry-specific laws?

Merging corporate data – Is it a transactional goal that one company will become fully incorporated into another, thereby merging the two distinct data sets, or will the target remain a standalone unit that continues to operate as a discrete division with segregated personal data?

International data transfers – What are the parties’ legal transfer mechanisms for cross-border personal data transfers? Would the merger itself lead to a cross-border transfer of personal data and, if so, would any country-specific laws then come into play, such as from China or Russia?

History of data breaches and the risk of compromised data – Are all transactional parties prepared to provide a history of any known or suspected data incidents or cyberattack attempts, and the responses to all? Beyond just corporate reputation, compromised data could mean any underlying intellectual property’s value has been diminished or that other vectors of attack may exist.

Breach response plans and encryption – Are data security plans such as breach response, disaster recovery, and business continuity in place and tested? What levels of encryption are used throughout the organization and how is this determined and monitored?

C-suite buy-in – Do the directors, officers, and executives have access to appropriate internal and external resources to help them evaluate data privacy and security issues and make informed business decisions? Have they allocated budgetary resources for personnel and technology solutions needed to automate privacy-compliant best practices well in advance of a transaction?

In a world of growing cyber threats and attacks, these privacy and data security considerations actually go far beyond just M&As. They can help businesses understand the ramifications of worst case scenarios and for evaluating the impact of data security and privacy solutions and policies on company value. Regulators are also more acutely monitoring companies’ privacy practices and statements. For instance, the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the most sweeping change to data protection in the past 20 years, will impact any U.S. company that handles EU resident data. Failure to comply with GDPR by the mandated May 25 deadline may lead to fines of up to €20 million or 4 percent of global annual turnover, whichever is higher.

In today’s business climate, not adhering to privacy and data protection practices risks leaving money on the table in M&A deals, incurring regulatory fines, and losing brand assets.

The Power of Groups

Frequently in business, we do the same things on a regular basis - invoice customers the same every month, enter certain deductions/charges monthly to bank and credit card accounts, enter adjusting entries periodically, look at the same reports weekly, monthly or quarterly. Using groups can speed up that process. We'll start with transactions - invoices, bills, adjustments, etc.

 In Sage, click on Lists, and Memorized Transactions. Down at the bottom of that window, you'll see a Memorized Transaction button. If you click on this button (or just right click somewhere in the window), you can select New Group. It's usually helpful to have a theme for the group, rather than monthly or quarterly - could be monthly maintenance invoices, monthly bills, quarterly adjustments... you get the idea. Then, when you memorize a transaction, you can save it to a group. You can decide whether this group is automatically entered- bank charges, monthly subscription invoices are frequently automatic. If it's not automatic, to create the transaction, you can double-click on the name of the group - it will ask for a date. Once the date is entered, the batch of transactions is created.

 It's a similar process for reports. Click on Reports, Memorized Reports, and you can add a group. You might want to memorize certain sales or financial reports. When you double-click on the group, you can decide which reports you want to run and the dates. Then the reports run.

 In the case of items, an Item Group is a handy way to enter several items at once. For instance, a company that installs doors might have a standard list of items (door, door knob, installation). A builder or remodeler might list the different components of the job - permits, framing, siding, doors, trim, electric, plumbing and so on. Or, perhaps when a customer buys a cell phone, they can have the option to buy an accessory package including car charger, wall charger, and case/carrier. Groups are actually a type of item and the items in the group need to already exist in your item list.

 To create an Item Group, go to your Items List (click on List, Item List or click on the Items & Services icon on the home page), then right-click and select New Item. From the types of items, select Group. Give it a name and a description that you would want to appear on an invoice/sales receipt. If you want all the items to show on the printed invoice, click on the box (Print Items in Group), otherwise leave blank. Then, select the items you want in the group and the quantity. You can choose to sell at the combined price or give it a different price. You can change quantities, pricing and which items in the group you use on any given invoice/sales receipt. One note: if these are inventory items, it does not remove them from inventory, it simply is a fast way to enter several items at once.

 Depending on the complexity of the group and the number of groups you create, this can be a nice time saving technique.

AI Weekly: AI assistant success is defined by each tech giant’s business strategy

Unless you live under a rock, you probably saw headlines this week about a war between Google Assistant and Amazon’s Alexa at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. So what’s the takeaway?

Alexa in personal computers and AR glasses may be a bit surprising, but the CES 2018 theme seemed to be the same as last year: more cars and auto appliances with AI assistants, and more smart home devices for the kitchen, family room, and bedroom that respond to voice commands and talk to Alexa and Google Assistant. In addition to Alexa in everything from a car cockpit to a toilet, Samsung’s Bixby, Microsoft’s Cortana, and Google Assistant all showed up to vie for the world’s attention. Away from Las Vegas, reports of a Facebook video chat device named Portal that responds to voice commands also made news this week.

CES this year made clear the distinction in strategy between these tech giants that no longer treat their assistants as a novelty, but rather as a major selling point and part of their brand identity. While historic hardware makers like Samsung and Apple put their AI assistant primarily in their own devices, those with shorter hardware track records like Google, Amazon, and Microsoft encouraged companies like LG and Toyota to use their SDK to adopt their AI assistants.

What’s the best way to go?

Samsung will bring Bixby to Family Hub refrigerators and Smart TVs this year, and by now Apple has integrated Siri into virtually every Apple device, but both are still working on getting their smart speakers into consumers’ hands, and trail behind Alexa and Google Assistant in popular buzz. Brands with SDKs also seem to have the widest offering of third-party voice apps.

Amazon may be discussing major marketing deals with brands like Procter & Gamble, but it’s clear that tech giants aren’t just propagating assistants to ink advertising deals. Brands like Alexa are maturing into marketing vehicles unto themselves, a selling point not just for manufacturers like JBL and Sony, but also for Amazon’s devices and ultimate goals.

As tech giants lean harder on selling you their AI assistant, successful strategies rely on the product portfolio and long-term vision of each company. Siri may not have a sterling reputation, but Apple still probably shipped more than 100 million iOS devices last quarter. Amazon may have sold tens of millions of smart speakers this holiday season, but its ultimate goal may be, as Zuckerberg reportedly said of the coming Portal video chat device, a change in user behavior.

Facebook wants you to use Facebook for more video chats, and probably advertising. Amazon may lead the smart speaker market, now considered the most popular consumer electronic, but it wants users to shift their behavior to think of voice shopping as a normal thing to do.

We don’t yet know if integrating your AI assistant everywhere or a more conservative approach is the best way to go.

What we do know is that 2018 is going to be the year that Amazon and Google see real competition from the likes of Microsoft, Samsung, and Facebook. As the war to place AI assistants in your home, car, and workplace rages on, the way each of these companies defines a successful strategy may not depend on the number of devices sold, or integrations by other hardware makers, but rather if it helps them achieve its long-term goals.

No CEO needed: These blockchain platforms will let ‘the crowd’ run startups

Back in May, I wrote about the concept of DAOs, decentralized autonomous organizations capable of running themselves thanks to blockchain technology — no CEO or C-Suite needed. At the time I was writing, there were a few people in the blockchain community testing out the idea but no strong efforts underway. That was six months ago.

As anyone in the crypto space will tell you, six months is a really long time. Today, a market for DAO platforms is emerging, complete with teams, funding, development, and initial implementations.

This is a category worth paying close attention to because it represents the much larger, more powerful shift that blockchains enable. The Bitcoin and alt-coin bull market are fun to watch, but it’s the new business models — and even societal models — that crypto enables that will be the real disruption.

DAOs solve some pretty interesting problems. In today’s centralized organizations, it is difficult and expensive to get large groups of people to work well together to complete a task. Traditionlly, only governments, the military, and global corporations have the money, people, and infrastructure to take on huge projects.

Numerous studies explain the various challenges of coordinating large groups. These include motivation cost (aka “social loafing”), relational loss (you feel less connected), and coordination cost (keeping three people up to speed is a lot cheaper than keeping 3,000 people up to speed).

DAO platforms promise to reduce these costs by enabling the coordination of ever more complex activities among participants. In so doing, they could erode the competitive advantage of a traditional, hierarchical, centralized organization.

DAOs work by turning the current rules that govern businesses into software code, reducing friction in operation. Even better, because they are software, they can be upgraded, modified, and instituted much faster and at lower cost than a traditional reorganization or restructuring.

The reduced coordination costs will have two sets of implications.

First, they will enable an entirely new set of “blockchain-native” organizations to emerge that have a cost structure advantage over traditional, centralized organizations.

Second, they could eventually disrupt the $42 billion enterprise resource planning (ERP) industry, where giants like SAP (20 percent), Oracle (13.9 percent) and Microsoft (9.4 percent) reign supreme, and disintermediate other markets, including lawyers and accountants who are normally involved in a corporate setup process.

A startup might normally need days or week to draft legal documents, assign option or share ownership, begin fundraising, and set up business rules for coordinating efforts internally and externally. With a DAO, you can implement all of that over a working lunch.

Emerging players in the DAO market

Aragon, Colony, and District0x are three of the open-source blockchain projects currently leading the charge in this space.

Aragon’s vision is to make new company setup a plug-and-play experience. It offers any would-be entrepreneur the ability to set up company ownership (via tokens), issue tokens, and raise funds for a project in a matter of minutes. And you can set rules for the new company’s governance by creating rules for which tokens have voting rights and what percentage of tokens need to vote on a motion, project, or rule for it to become law. You can also set rules for token vesting schedules.

Holders of your new company’s token — presumably your employees and investors — stand to benefit financially as the new entity gains traction. Whereas the value created by companies that run SAP accrues to SAP, here the value goes to the token holders who have a direct interest in improving the functionality and efficiency of your company.

You can play around with the Aragon software (available for Windows, Mac, and Linux as well as a web version). The alpha runs on Kovan (and Ropsten) TestNets, and a new version is coming soon, according to the project team.

District0x actually leverages Aragon as a base governance feature and then adds extra capabilities to help decentralized businesses create and manage a marketplace. These capabilities includes posting and listing, search and filtering, ranking and reputation, and payments and invoicing, all of which enable entrepreneurs to quickly spin up decentralized marketplaces. And we’re already seeing some of these marketplaces emerge.

Ethlance , for example, is a decentralized take on Upwork, and NameBazaar is a decentralized marketplace for buying and selling domain names on the Ethereum network. You will need MetaMask to use these, but you can go in there, find contractors on Ethlance or .ens names on NameBazaar, set up contracts and complete transactions. No intermediaries. Secured by the blockchain.

So, while the challenge of customer-acquisition still exists for DAO startups, you don’t need to spend a lot of time creating the code that would allow you to create a decentralized version of AirBnB or Uber, etc. The combination of District0x and Aragon commoditizes the back-end technical, legal, and operational infrastructure of some of today’s most valuable “sharing economy” platforms.

Anyone wanting to participate in these District0x marketplaces (called “districts”) will need a DNT token (the market cap is $27 million at the time of writing). That gives you the right to vote on the evolution of the marketplace (imagine you get to tell Uber what to do as opposed to the other way around) as well as benefit from the value accrued as these marketplaces grow.

Colony takes a bit of a different approach, focusing primarily on a problem we have all experienced in a group: The wrong people get the rewards because bosses don’t have full visibility and politics are at play.

As Colony’s founders explain on their blog, “Instead of being monitored and evaluated by someone higher up the hierarchy, any individual’s merit within a colony is calculated through systematic peer review of completed work and represented numerically on the blockchain.” (A “colony” is what the company calls any DAO built on its platform.)

When you contribute more to a project, you are rewarded with tokens from others in the project. So the number of tokens you hold reflects your overall reputation. As your reputation grows (and, remember, this isn’t an ephemeral concept in Colony, it is a quantifiable one), so does your influence in the form of voting on projects.

One other player to watch is DAOstack, founded by Matan Field, who has a deep history in the blockchain space, having founded Backfeed and LaZooz. Notable thinker Primavera De Filippi is an advisor, so for that reason alone, this project is worth taking seriously.

The basic layer of DAOstack is fully functional (on the test net), and it is adding a JavaScript layer (for easy front-end integration of collaborative apps), but DAOstack has a few key differences from Colony, District0x, and Aragon.

DAOstack is for large-scale organizations rather than startups and is focused on a heavily modular approach. It seeks to build a “WordPress for DAOs.” Imagine a set of governance plug-ins that can be used and reused depending on what type of entity you want to create. Whereas Aragon is about using blockchains to automate or “smart contract-ify” existing organizational structures, the DAOstack team is focused on giving people the ability to mix and match the best elements of organizational and governance structures to create entirely new forms that work together. It’s like Lego for organizations.

The big DAO promise: Business at higher agility and speed

In the late ’90s, the Internet changed business. We also saw a new set of businesses emerge at that time that were only possible because of the arrival of that new technology. With the benefit of hindsight, it is clear that there was a difference between Barnes & Noble putting up a website and Amazon being a “digital native” organization, even if it was not obvious at the time.

With DAOs, we are witnessing the birth of entirely new way of coordinating, aligning, and rewarding work. The blockchain-native entities built on platforms like Aragon, Colony, District0x, DAOStack, and the competitors that are bound to follow are going to pose a threat to incumbents who cannot react as quickly. More importantly, they will enable entirely new types of organizations that will change the world just as Facebook, Amazon, and Google did the last time around.

Skyscanner acquires London’s Twizoo, a platform that scrapes user reviews from Twitter

Travel search giant Skyscanner has acquired Twizoo, a U.K.-based platform that identifies user-generated content on Twitter for companies to use in promotional campaigns on their websites.

The deal is Skyscanner’s sixth known acquisition and its first since being acquired for $1.7 billion last year by Ctrip, one of China’s biggest online travel companies.

Skyscanner was founded out of Scotland in 2003 and emerged as one of Europe’s biggest flight search engines by traffic, and one of the biggest globally. It has since expanded into related services, such as hotels and car rentals.

Founded out of London in 2013, Twizoo had raised around $2 million in funding, and since its inception it has been vying for space in a market dominated by online heavyweights such as Yelp, which has a reputation for not always hosting genuine reviews. Twizoo basically scrapes Twitter comments related to companies — such as hotels — and allows those companies to highlight the tweets on their own online properties.

On the surface, this system also seems ripe for abuse — what’s stopping a hotel from setting up a bunch of fake Twitter accounts? But that’s where Twizoo’s underlying artificial intelligence (AI) smarts come into play. Twizoo automatically analyzes other things people tweet about to ensure that it’s looking at a genuine social media account. Tweets from new Twitter accounts are not included, and several simultaneous tweets about a specific business would also be flagged as suspicious.

For Skyscanner, the acquisition makes a great deal of sense, as it will allow the company to surface “legitimate” hotel reviews and recommendations for venues that sell through its own suite of apps.

“Skyscanner aims to serve all traveler needs, from inspiration through to planning and booking,” said Skyscanner CTO Bryan Dove. “Twizoo’s technology surfaces customer opinions from social media, providing real value to traveler decision-making.”

Twizoo’s team of six, including founders Madeline Parra and John Talbott, has now joined Skyscanner’s recently opened 24,000-square-foot office in central London, which is home to around 120 employees. Globally, Skyscanner employes around 900 people, and the company said that it’s currently looking to hire for “dozens” of new roles in nine offices around the world.

China’s manufacturers are enabling a new model of startup incubation

The current chronology Silicon Valley hardware startups typically follow is slow and disordered. But that could change with a new incubation model emerging from an unlikely group: China’s global hardware manufacturers (OEMs).

Usually, when launching a hardware business, startups make prototypes, then raise capital so they can fund production. They then often turn to China, where they begin the arduous process of identifying and trying out multiple suppliers, manufacturers, and logistics companies. After a time-consuming and, frankly, painful process of speed-dating, fraught with miscommunication, startups will choose their partners. These relationships are transactional in nature, which means, right from the onset, there is a fundamental misalignment of interests between volume on the supply side and quality, brand equity, and sustainable growth on the startup side. Without pushing large volume, startups are unable to command quality from the supply chain. Eventually a product is produced and brought to market, though it’s not always the intended, original design.

Take Kickstarter campaigns, for example. Of the campaigns that successfully deliver product, only about 15 percent ship on time. Many more never come to mass production. Lily, the drone startup, is notorious for failing to produce after raising $34 million in a crowdfunding campaign. Even VC-backed, well-funded American hardware companies struggle to align their designs with production processes and cost realities. Nest, Pebble, and Jawbone are all examples of Silicon Valley-backed hot brand names that struggled to play the hardware game as prescribed by U.S. VC rhetoric.

Meanwhile, China is well-known for its hardware manufacturing capabilities. More than 90 percent of the world’s electronics move through China at some point during their production processes. This reputation as the world’s assembly line masks two things: China has best-in-class, large-scale industrial production know-how, and Chinese companies have incredible engineering prowess that is reality-based, not theoretical. Many of these manufacturing goliaths are hungry to move beyond their low-margin wheelhouse.

The dawn of something new

This desire of China’s manufacturing goliaths to be more than hired labor gives startups an alternative to the traditional Silicon Valley VC path. By taking their prototypes directly to manufacturers and taking a small seed round from those companies, startups are able to tear down many of the barriers that continually plague Silicon Valley hardware companies. When the supplier has skin in the game, several interests align, as the potential profit-sharing from a startup’s success can be far beyond a nominal manufacturing margin. The supplier now has an incentive to keep production costs low, a disincentive to work with any competitors or abuse the IP, a sense of responsibility to maintain the highest quality controls, and an urgency to bring the product to market as quickly as possible.

Aligning interests with a supply chain partner, startups can leverage the partner to buy up/lease all the production capacity needed at below-market production rates. Startups are creating products that engineers have put together using the best materials and best possible traits of existing products. It’s a combination that has enabled startups to create a completely new and unique model and open up a brand new product segment that didn’t exist before, more quickly than ever before.

This trend is logically more prominent in manufacturing-capital intensive industries. Sunwoda, China’s largest consumer battery pack manufacturer has invested in two prominent Chinese startups, Anker and JieDian, for example. SCUD, the second largest in the battery pack space, has invested in LaiDian and Xiaole. With manufacturing secured and products already on the market, these companies can later turn to VCs for growth money at more advantageous valuations. This is done instead of diluting valuations simply to raise VC money in order to bargain with manufacturers on R&D costs and bridge cash flow gaps on early production runs. Moreover, when the manufacturers are on the startup’s side, they can help optimize costs, mitigate frequent production errors, and extend payment terms on early production. It’s difficult for VCs to match that platform, and these Chinese startups have begun to realize that fact first.

Global startups starting to follow suit

When my company began designing our first product, we sought out our supply chain partners prior to even incorporating. At the inception level, we gave minority equity stakes to SCUD, who I mentioned above, and ESID, a consumer electronics industrial design firm. These supply chain partners became not just suppliers or investors but rather prideful founding members of the team at the initial incorporation stage. They have incubated and guided our supply chain every step of the way, working with us, not for us. In less than 11 months we designed, developed, produced, and shipped 5,000 units of our first product, a sophisticated energy storage system, to 21 countries. We have also shipped a full range of accessories and are in pre-production for a second product launch; and we have hired more than 10 full-time employees. To date, we have yet to raise a round of angel or VC funding.

Gi FlyBike is another exemplary pioneering global startup – an e-bike company founded by a group of Argentinians. After a successful crowdfunding campaign, Gi Flybike took its designs to Yadea Technology Group, the global leader in e-bike manufacturing with nearly two decades of history. The manufacturer sells more than three million e-bikes to five continents, with almost 15 percent global market share. The Gi FlyBike R&D team is currently based inside the Yadea Technology Group manufacturing plant, entering its first mass production stage.

Startups that hatch ready to hit the market

We are at the beginning of a new era of Chinese and Chinese-Western startups that hatch ready to hit the market. The needs of these companies are, and will be, different. They are able to leverage locals in China’s manufacturing centers with strong knowledge of the supply chain as well as experienced founders who know the end markets. They are creating new value in unused capacity, in back-of-envelope sketches and offbeat ideas from some great engineers.

While this OEM incubation model could, and will, be replicated around the world, rich and hungry Chinese OEMs are probably the most ready to engage today. It will be difficult for Western manufacturers to compete with the cost, speed, niche specialization, and production scale of the new China.

There is a new cadence for global hardware companies, and it doesn’t have to start in Silicon Valley with venture capitalists.
