What does Rook want out of life? Do they want to be able to be accepted by those who don't like him? Does he have goals in that they're striving for?
rook’s biggest desire is to be a physician-flora. they already have the flora part completely down but they feel like that’s all they are at this point in their life - that and bentley’s accessory, not her equal. but rook has a pretty severe phobia of blood and death, something physicians will inevitably have to deal with. and rook’s phobia is severe. bentley refuses to teach him anything or lead him in this direction for his own safety. she believes he has repressed memories and trauma from when he lived with his bio parents (briefly) but she like, won’t tell him that. she’s just trying to put him in the safest box possible. her resistance is starting to really piss him off though but because he’s rook he tries to tread very lightly and she’s able to override him easily during conversations.
as for the folks who don’t like him, at the beginning of the story rook hasn’t experienced malice from the rosens so the genuine disdain he faces from cats like splinter is jarring. this puts them in a very poor headspace for a long time till they learn they can commiserate and connect with moth. and eventually till splinter comes around lol

god there's so much. so much little details about the night crew doctors i want them all.
first dr ellis. she was mentioned by robbie in previous episodes that she tends to come in early. and she does. "put in me coach!" she strikes me as someone who's first to enter the er and last to leave. someone who has to be pulled away from work because it tends to consume her. kinda of like her work is her life.
next dr walsh. "give me a challenge". someone who purposely selects the hardest cases on the excel sheet. she was tuning out robby during his speech and im taking with that and hc-ing that she's probably been through an MCI before. and that she was also the acting head er surgeon then.
then dr shen. asking about holidays off. was just a resident three months ago. he's become an attending physican and it still hasnt sunk into him fully. glued to that dunkin cup. rightfully so.
then last dr abbott. what were you doing with a police scanner sir. also youre probably ex-military. giving that heart wrenching condolence letter to the family of the vet and saying the er is like an active combat zone. god two of our attendings are going through so much ptsd.

Y'all keep being super melodramatic about Langdon's drug use. "CAREEER ENDING." "evidence!!!!" "cover up!!!!" etc. I don't know if it is because tumblr skews young, or what, but the constant OMG THIS WILL RUIN HIS CAREER FOREVER, both in discussions and fanfic, is annoying. Even ER knew better, and that was decades ago.
From someone whose sister was in the healthcare system and was caught diverting multiple times (because she was an addict, and addicts do fucked up shit sometimes) : This is not career ending. It is not license revoking automatically. I also don't care if you think it is the worst thing ever or if it should be career ending or license ending. It isn't, and that is a fact.
(You have been treated by a Langdon, before and after recovery. I promise.)
Other sources:
This shit happens all the time. Up to 15% of healthcare professionals will struggle with substance abuse.
Secondly, Robby should not and would not be the one looking over him during his recovery. He would be his boss, but please look into Physicans Health Programs. These programs are not perfect, and people complain about them, but they are better than many alternatives.
The hospital should and would have a policy in place. This is especially true in the Emergency department, which accounts for up to 18% of all doctors enrolled in the Physicians Health Programs. In other words, addiction affects Emergency Medicine doctors disproportionately. This should be something Robby has experienced before at this point in his career. yes, it should hit differently because it's his friend, but he should never be shocked and apalled that at doctor is abusing drugs. He's seen it before. Guaranteed.
Dana has seen it before, too. Guaranteed. And that risk has grown since the Covid pandemic.
And finally! Nobody needs "Evidence." A senior attending stating what he saw with his own eyes would be enough. This isn't a civil trial.
In short, a lot of The Pitt fandom ... talks terribly about Addicts in general, but some of it is not on purpose and comes from a place of ignorance. So. Fix that, maybe.

Since the original study widely circulated on tumblr (and around the country - it was cited in the Supreme Court by Justice Jackson), I thought some of you might be interested to know that a reanalysis of the study data which found that black babies die more often in the care of white doctors discovered that the original study did not control for birth weight under 1500 grams, the single strongest predictor of infant mortality, and the weight which accounts for 66% of mortality among white babies and 81% of black babies. The reanalysis found that when "extremely low" birth weight is accounted for, the association of physician race and infant mortality becomes statistically insignificant.
There is inequity under the surface here: black babies are more likely to have lower birth weight, and white doctors are more likely to care for lower birth weight babies. Why black physicians are such a small percentage of neonatologists (who care for most premature and low weight infants), even when considering how underrepresented black Americans are in the physician workforce period, and why black babies twice as likely to be born at life-threatening birth weights as white babies (which may even be related to disparities in the quality of maternal healthcare given to black mothers!) really, truly may indicate serious, systemic issues of racism in healthcare. It's very likely that they do! But it is genuinely dangerous to reach for easy, poorly supported (and in this case, untrue!) outcome associations because they give us a clear boogeyman. We have to beware the uncomplicated fix.
In this case, patient-physican racial matching (to use the study's term) would not improve the outcomes of black infants. The time, money, and resources spent advocating for this fix should belong to projects that actually save the lives of black preemies. It's a good reminder (for myself too, I totally bought the first study!) to approach even studies that conform to our expectations with health skepticism, especially when they have such serious implications.

Thoughts on Prince's Gambit, Chapter 1
Orlant dared Damen to run, while I'm daring him to marry Laurent and become the king consort of Vere, LOL.
Laurent's good with doggies, AWEEEE.
The physician wants Damen to use healing salves on his back every night? Ohohohoh, who's going to apply them, then? šŸ˜.
Probably the fucking physican šŸ¤¦ā€ā™€ļø.
All of the Prince’s Guard are so loyal to Laurent and Damen’s like: ā€œthis does not compute šŸ„øā€
Laurent and Damen are sharing a bedroom at Chastillon, OH? Not a full on there-was-only-one-bed thing, but STILL.
Laurent went on trips to Chastillon with the Regent for a year or two after Marles? You mean when he was in that pedophile’s AGE RANGE? AND HE STOPPED COMING TO CHASTILLON AFTERWARDS? HMM?
The Regent must be burned at the stake. That fucker.
Damen joking about killing Laurent and escaping the keep, LMFAO. And Laurent barely batting an eye.
Laurent knows something about wanting to kill someone, but waiting? Is this about the Regent? Or about Damianos?

I've been down the Merthur tag rabbit hole and now I'm thinking a au for Valgrace(and kinda Solangelo too dhdg)
Just Zeus running a kingdom that doesn't allow anyone who isn't human/sorcerer.
Leo is a were-dragon words trying to hide it from everyone and is somehow placed as Jason's servant.
Will is Sun Fae and is also trying to hide it why being Physican Apprentice.
Nico, who is one of Zeus' wards(more so by forcing his brothers' hands so he could keep an eye on Nico and Percy’s strength-) is completely aware but just doesn't say anything about them.
Jason is completely unaware, no thought about it going through his head why he's with Leo/hj
Annabeth,a human scholar who works at the castle, is aware of at least Will,as he had exposed himself why trying to heal her when she first arrived injured.
Percy, other ward, is constantly getting into stuff she drags him out of. So really she and Will takes turns complaining/gossiping about nobility and such gsgdg
Piper is another fae who lives outside of the castle with her human girlfriend. She is constantly worried about Will and Leo getting caught.
Funnily enough though, most of the time Will and Leo are just trying to keep other's from assassinating the princes. Or getting kidnapped themselves
Especially Leo. Because everyone but Leo is aware Jason has fallen hard for him frgdf makes him a good target
Will's fallen hard for Nico but is trying so hard to act cool about it. Nico just thinks he's jumpy from trying not to expose himself as Fae.
Meanwhile Annabeth and Percy are actively flirting back and forth even mid meeting.
Overall they all are just a mess gdfd

The characterization that Khalid becomes to anxiously and cowardly in the face of imminent danger is by far one of the most ridiculous characterization to come out of Lemiere’s JSA. Khalid’s origin story already required him to muster the courage to oppose being far greater than himself in the first few days of becoming a hero.
He has opposed gods, vampires, chaos being, hostile elementals, etc. Sometimes, he didn’t even have the helm.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Khalid will have existed for over 10 years as a character next month on May 13th as the second longest character to uphold the Doctor Fate mantle, surpassing even Hector. The fact he is considered a newbie still is ridiculous & falls in line with this inclination where PoC legacy characters will never ā€œoutshineā€ the most popular version (usually white) and always have to go through hurdles to prove themselves, only to not actually do it because writers want to constantly write that as a basis for "conflict" in all their stories involving the character.
The thing is: Khalid is the most charming and engaging Doctor Fate. Unlike other Fates, he HAS a background and a basis unlike Inza. His origin is NOT complicated and involving sexual assault, confusing continuity, and pedophilia like Hector Hall and Eric/Linda Strauss. And he has agency in his stories; for all the complaints I'm giving, talking about Khalid is us talking about him and doesn't require me having to first separate a overriding character.
At the best of his characterization, he is already courageous and brave and is mature. He is not a young high-schooler; he is quippy and talks back but you should get the sense he is a character who can deal with stress (EMT and physican for christ sake) and has progressed enough to be beyond college. You want some flaws? That's cool. But don't turn the character into a coward when he is a character on call by Superman and the Flash.

thoughts on elwin? :P
Hmm. Elwin, is a amazing guy in my opinion, he takes care of kids, he gives emotional support stuffed animals, hes also a physican, he's always there for everyone, whats not to love? <3 Elwin is also a huge supporter of the Black Swan, and as someone who may or may not be part of the order, i like that trait. Elwin also gives the best bear hugs and he's a walking green flag!
thanks for the ask!

No Longer You from Epic The Musical is Jason Grace's song
*Burning Maze SPOILERS ahead*
Like it's so him meeting the oracle Herophile in the burning maze and him realising he's going to die.
"I see a song of past romance" (Piper and Jason's past relationship)
"I see the sacrifice of man" (Jason sacrifices his life to save Piper and the others)
"And a brother's final stand" (Jason Thalias' and Apollos' brother taking his final stand against Caligula)
"I see you on the brink of death" (Him after being pierced through his chest speaking his last words to Apollo)
"I see you draw your final breath" (Him dying)
"I see a man who gets to make it home alive" (LEO MAKING IT BACK TO CAMP ALIVE AFTER DYING)
"But it's no longer you" (Jason could have survied but Leo taking the physicans cure and coming back to life forces the prophecy of 7s line "to storm or fire the world must fall" to pass on to Jason because if the prophecy is to come true one of them has to die PERMANENTLY and so while it was at one point Jason surviving and going home now it's Leo)
Bonus:
"This can't be
We've suffered and sailed through the toughest of hells
Now you tell us our effort's for nothing?"
(Odysseus' response is SO Jason talking about his journey on the argo and how he fought all those months just to die now)

I feel like Goldfish! Lleu would freak out if he found out Telemakos was fucking Ishraq tbh. That was definitely not part of the plan
That'd be straight up suicidal. I find Telemakos/Ishraq difficult to imagine happening during Lleu's lifetime. Lleu instilled such a great fear and obedience in Telemakos, he wouldn't dare to have a secret lover right under his nose. Lleu wants to be the only shining sun in Telemakos' life. He wants Telemakos' life to revolve around him and views any friendships Telemakos makes as a certain betrayal in the making. Lleu is so godamn paranoid he would punish Telemakos for imagined cheating. Telemakos arriving late to dinner with Lleu because he chattered with a maidservant could end with a fork stabbed into his hand or spurge finding its way somehow into his soup. A shy smile directed towards the pretty stable boy could earn him a few broken bones during a hunting accident (Lleu sabotaged his saddle and dared him to jump over a river). Harmless flirting turns Lleu into a green-eyed monster who'd burn his initials into Telemakos' skin with hot iron to remind him who he belongs to. I don't even dare to imagine what Lleu would do to him, if he caught him making love to his foster son.
The blame would fall entirely on Telemakos. Telemakos looks like Medraut. Therefore he must be like Medraut. Lustful, corrupting, incestuous, deceptive, treacherous. Lleu would hurt him bad. Very badly. So badly the physican isn't sure he'll ever recover from his injuries and Lleu would take seat across Telemakos' bed and as he grasps his hand and leans his head against Telemakos' shoulder, he'd briefly entertain the idea of just cutting off one of Telemakos limbs so he can never can run far from his sight. He'd put the knife on Telemakos' leg and in the process of making the first cut, when the pain shakes Telemakes out of his sleep and he, barely conscious, throws himself to his knees and begs Lleu under tears not to do it. Only when he vows his ultimate loyality to his uncle and starts kissing him and initiating sex, Lleu relents. Telemakos is so frantic Lleu will kill him or do worse. Lleu might put bars on his window and turn his room into a human-sized birdcage where Telemakos has to live like a prisoner. The easiest way to achieve that is probably to accuse him of a crime...poisoning perhaps. He could accuse him of having poisoned Athena out of jealousy. Lleu might even be right.
Long ago before things would turn so bad, Ishraq would have been send as Camlan's ambassador to Aksum, causing Telemakos who depended on him alot for emotional support over the years to have a breakdown. You know how the AU goes, during Ishraq's absence he'd plot Lleu's death and take the throne by force. Ishraq arrives home, only to find out his foster father had been killed by his first love.
