Update:
So I went to the dr yesterday to tell her I suspect I have Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, it went like this;
Me: Yeah so I was told to look into this thing and I have all the symptoms and it makes a lot of sense and-
Dr: Is it Elhers Danlos? Because I agree and if I had the ability I would diagnose you right now
So that was really helpful for my imposter syndrome, she suggested that I go see a physiotherapist to get his evaluation. I've also got some blood tests to do in 2 1/2 months to rule out Lupus and rheumatoid arthritis, but it's unlikely I have either. I'm excited to finally get some steps to achieve a diagnosis, but also I'm so exhausted of this journey.

Advanced TMJ Treatment in Adelaide: Relief for Jaw Dysfunction
Understanding TMJ and Its Symptoms
Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) disorders are a common yet often misunderstood condition affecting the jaw joint and the muscles controlling jaw movement. Many people experience TMJ dysfunction, which can result in jaw pain, difficulty chewing, and even headaches. If you’re dealing with these symptoms, seeking professional TMJ treatment in Adelaide at Wakefield Sports can provide the relief you need.
Tumblr media
The temporomandibular joint is a hinge-like structure connecting your jaw to your skull. It plays a critical role in allowing your mouth to move, making it essential for talking, eating, and other jaw functions. However, when this joint becomes inflamed or misaligned, it can cause discomfort, often referred to as TMJ syndrome. Symptoms can include:
Jaw pain or tenderness
Clicking or popping sounds in the jaw
Lockjaw or difficulty opening the mouth fully
Facial pain around the ear
Chronic headaches or migraines
Causes of TMJ Disorders
There are various factors that can contribute to TMJ disorders, including:
Jaw injury: Trauma to the jaw or head can damage the TMJ.
Teeth grinding: Also known as bruxism, this can overwork the jaw muscles, leading to pain and inflammation.
Arthritis: Osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis can affect the TMJ, leading to joint degeneration.
Poor posture: Bad posture, especially in the neck and upper back, can create strain on the jaw and contribute to TMJ dysfunction.
Stress: Stress can lead to muscle tension and clenching of the jaw, aggravating TMJ pain.
If you experience these symptoms, it's essential to seek early intervention. Wakefield Sports offers effective, personalized TMJ treatment in Adelaide, addressing both the cause and symptoms of TMJ disorders.

Effective Physio Rehabilitation: Assessment, Treatment, Exercises, and Home Advice
Physio rehabilitation is the use of physical therapy to improve health conditions and injuries. It helps restore movement and mobility, strengthen muscles, reduce pain, improve balance, flexibility and endurance and prevent recurrence of injury or symptoms.
Physiotherapy techniques include diagnosis, education and empowerment to understand your condition and manage it, manual therapy and therapeutic modalities to decrease pain and modify your perception of it.
Assessment
The assessment process is key to safe and effective interventions. It should be carried out in a setting that is safe, suitable and comfortable for the client. The client should be able to talk freely about their problems, explain what they believe they are experiencing and how this has affected them.
A good rehabilitation physiotherapist will be curious about observations and will seek explanations. This can help uncover unsuspected information that might be useful in achieving their goals. It also helps keep their critical faculties active.
Often, rehabilitation assessments follow a model similar to medical diagnostic procedures in that the healthcare professional uses a structured set of questions to establish the presence or absence of a particular condition. However, it is important to remember that measurement and assessment are different – measurement quantifies, while assessment discovers underlying causes and consequences. Long term goals are typically around level of functioning and independence. This should be documented and reviewed regularly.
Treatment
Physio rehabilitation helps restore movement and function after illness, injury or disability. It can also help manage pain and improve balance, strength, flexibility and co-ordination.
This involves treating the soft tissue such as muscles, tendons and ligaments to reduce pain and improve mobility and flexibility. The therapist may massage, apply heat or cold, stretch or knead the area to relieve tension and encourage healing.
Physiotherapy can also help with the management of chronic and complex conditions such as heart disease, stroke, lung problems, diabetes, arthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. It can provide advice and education on self-management, physical activity, health-promoting behaviours and healthy lifestyles. It can also offer practical help and support through the provision of aids, adaptions and equipment, diet, nutrition, weight management and general wellbeing. This can help prevent complications and recurrence of the condition. It can improve the quality of life and enable people to live as independently as possible. It can also help reduce the amount of time they spend in hospital or off work due to ill health.
Exercises
Physiotherapy exercises play an important role in recovery from injury, promoting healthy bones and muscles, enhancing physical resilience and reducing the risk of future injuries. Physiotherapy exercise programmes are tailored to the individual, taking into account their injury history, age and overall health.
Muscle activation and strengthening is an integral part of rehabilitation, particularly for injured patients who experience muscle atrophy during periods of immobility. Exercises also enhance the stability of joints, preventing stiffness and improving mobility.
Pulmonary rehabilitation exercises help to restore lung capacity and facilitate normal breathing, which is often compromised in patients with chronic illnesses and in those who have a sedentary lifestyle.
Balance exercises challenge multiple muscles at once and can improve coordination, reducing the risk of falls in those with impaired balance or poor stability. To ensure compliance with rehabilitation exercises, therapists use both intrinsic (internal motivation) and extrinsic feedback mechanisms. Examples include visual demonstrations, the use of a mirror, verbal instructions and guidance through touch.
Advice
A physiotherapist will be able to give you advice about what to do to help your rehabilitation at home, work or leisure. This can include avoiding falls by making sure indoor and outdoor areas are free from clutter or fall hazards. Maintaining a good level of fitness by regular low or no impact exercise, such as swimming is also helpful, along with keeping your weight within a healthy range for your height and build.
The overall goal of rehabilitation is to enable people to manage their own health and wellbeing so they can lead an active life. This can be a long-term process, depending on the condition and what the person wants from their recovery.
The quickest progress is made by patients who fully commit to the treatment plan, carrying out exercises and stretches as they are prescribed. Getting adequate sleep and eating well also helps the rehabilitation process. People with the most successful outcomes are those who are well supported by family, friends and carers.

How To Get Rid Of Knee Pain
Source : https://ext-6616953.livejournal.com/474.html?newpost=1
October 12 is being celebrated as World Arthritis Day (WAD)  to raise global awareness about all facets of the disease. Knee arthritis is expected to emerge as the fourth most common cause of physical disability in India. About 15 crore Indians suffer from knee problems, out of which 4 crores need a total knee replacement, imposing a considerable health burden on the society and country ( Times of India).
The knee is the largest joint in our body.It is made up of four main things that are bones, ligaments, cartilage and tendons. When something happens to any one of these parts leads to knee pain. Apart from that our knees suffer from a lot of problems due to the amount of work they do on an average day like heading out on a hike, doing daily house chores, etc. Our knees are always playing the part in our lives and pain relief of knee joints is important to go through daily life activities.
Causes of Knee Pain
Injury in muscle due to sprains and strains caused by exercise; torn ligament or tendon; tendonitis between the kneecap and shin; a dislocated kneecap
Osteoarthritis
Damage to the cartilage.
Bursitis is a condition in which a small fluid sac in the knee is inflamed.
Tumblr media
Prevention is better than cure, reasons are many but the cure of the knee pain is necessary to carry out the day to day life activities with ease. The cure for the knee pain is many but opting for the correct treatment according to symptoms is a main concern for the patient.
A minor pain and injury on the knee can be cured by home remedies. Some of them are as follows:
RICE (Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation) is the most used step for all types of joint pain.
Slipping into that perfect pair of heels/shoes can really complete an outfit, prevent knee present and future pain.
Acupuncture is a beneficial and complementary knee pain remedy as it blocks certain pain messages from being passed on to the brain relieving the knee pain.
Exercising and stretching recommended by the physiotherapist also help to prevent knee pain.
Maintaining a healthy body weight also releases stress from the knee and thus prevents early pain.
Reducing the stress level via meditation, yoga, or a good night’s sleep, can help manage your chronic knee pain.
Not all knee pains lead to serious complications apart from severe knee injuries and certain conditions, like osteoarthritis, which leads to increased pain, joint destruction, and disability if left unattended. In such cases a visit to the doctor is necessary. This type of pain cannot be relieved at home and proper treatment prescribed by the doctor must be followed. Some of the treatment are as follows:
Medications of  anti-inflammatory drugs are helpful to reduce pain and tenderness and treat the conditions causing knee pain, like rheumatoid arthritis or gout.
Physical therapy sessions  and different strengthening exercises recommended by the doctor  based on the particular condition causing the pain. In specific conditions, different kinds of braces or splints may be advised to support the knee joint.
Injecting injections directly to the joint.  The types of injections are as follows:
Corticosteroids : It provides pain relief that lasts for a few months.
Hyaluronic acid: It is injected into the knees to significantly improve mobility and relieve pain.
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP):  This decreases inflammation and promotes healing of the damaged tissues.
Stem cells: It helps to regenerate the knee joint.
Surgical intervention is required in  cases where all other conservative treatment methods have stopped working and the knee pain is getting worse day by day. Some of the surgical options are as follows:
Arthroscopic surgery: It is done to  withdraw loose bodies from the knee joint, repair the damaged cartilage in the locking phase of the knee, and reconstruct damaged structures.
Partial knee replacement surgery:  This surgery replaces only the most damaged compartments of the knee with implants of metal and plastic
Total knee replacement: It is done by the doctor, removes the impaired bone and cartilage from the femur, tibia, and patella and interchanges them with an artificial joint composed of metallic alloys, high-grade plastics, and polymers.
Osteotomy: It involves cutting a segment of bone from the femur or tibia to achieve better knee alignment and relieves pain.
Conclusion
All knee pain is not  serious, but  some knee injuries need medical attention such as osteoarthritis which  can lead to increasing pain, joint damage and disability if left untreated. It is always advisable to visit a doctor to treat your knee pain with proper treatment and self care, as in the modern era everything is possible if the correct action is taken at the right time. I believe that today's generation want to enjoy their life to the fullest extent but are not very health conscious and also due to the increased life expectancy due to the modern medical system leads to increased  cases of knee replacement of the aging population. A healthy lifestyle and proper medical guidance would definitely help to reduce knee pain instances.

How do you determine if a patient is a suitable candidate for joint replacement surgery?
Determining whether a patient is a suitable candidate for joint replacement surgery involves a comprehensive assessment by a multidisciplinary team typically including orthopedic surgeons, physical therapists, and other healthcare professionals. Here’s an outline of the factors considered in this evaluation process:
1. Severity of Joint Damage:
The primary consideration is the extent of damage to the joint due to conditions like osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, or trauma. X-rays, CT scans, and MRI scans help assess the degree of joint deterioration.
2. Level of Pain and Disability:
Patients experiencing significant pain and disability that significantly impacts daily activities, despite conservative treatments like medication, physical therapy, and lifestyle modifications, are potential candidates.
3. Age and Activity Level:
While age alone isn’t a decisive factor, younger patients should carefully consider the potential for future revisions due to the lifespan of implants. Activity level and overall health are also assessed to ensure the patient can withstand surgery and rehabilitation.
4. Medical History:
A comprehensive review of the patient’s medical history is crucial. Conditions such as heart disease, diabetes, and lung disease can impact surgical outcomes and recovery. Optimal control of chronic conditions before surgery is essential.
5. Failed Conservative Treatments:
Candidates typically undergo a trial of conservative treatments, including medications, physical therapy, and possibly injections. If these treatments fail to provide adequate relief, surgery may be considered.
6. Mental and Emotional Health:
The patient’s mental and emotional readiness for surgery and rehabilitation are evaluated. Support systems at home and the ability to adhere to post-operative care instructions are important considerations.
7. Surgical Risks and Expectations:
The risks and benefits of joint replacement surgery are discussed thoroughly with the patient. Realistic expectations regarding pain relief, functional improvement, and potential complications are crucial for informed decision-making.
8. Lifestyle Considerations:
Patient lifestyle factors such as smoking, alcohol consumption, and weight management are assessed. Smoking cessation and weight loss may be recommended to optimize surgical outcomes.
9. Patient Preferences:
The patient’s preferences and goals for surgery are taken into account. This includes discussions about expected outcomes, recovery time, and potential lifestyle changes post-surgery.
10. Multidisciplinary Team Review:
The final decision to proceed with joint replacement surgery often involves a multidisciplinary team review. This team may include orthopedic surgeons, physiotherapists, nurses, and sometimes social workers or psychologists to ensure all aspects of the patient’s care are considered.
In conclusion, determining candidacy for joint replacement surgery involves a thorough assessment of joint damage, pain levels, medical history, lifestyle factors, and patient preferences. This comprehensive evaluation ensures that surgery is appropriate and offers the best chance for successful outcomes in terms of pain relief, improved function, and quality of life.

Causes Of Neck Pain
The head’s weight makes the neck prone to ailments and injuries, limiting mobility and causing pain. Causes of neck pain include:
Strained Muscles: Misuse, such as hunching over a computer or smartphone for extended periods of time, is a common cause of muscle strains. Simple activities like reading in bed can put tension on the neck muscles.
Strained Joints: The neck joints deteriorate with age as do the other joints of the body. The body frequently generates bone spurs as a result of wear and tear, which can cause discomfort and restrict joint motion.
Accidents: Rear-end crashes frequently result in whiplash injuries. The head moving back and forth causes pressure on the delicate tissues in the neck.
Nerve Compression: Herniated disks or bone spurs in the cervical vertebrae may compress the nerves extending from the spinal cord.
Medical Conditions: Meningitis, rheumatoid arthritis, and cancer are just a few of the disorders that can cause neck pain.
Does neck pain limit your daily activities? Our experienced physiotherapists at Isha’s Physiotherapy and Spine Care Clinic can provide personalized treatments to address neck pain and improve your quality of life.
