Launchpad 2015 - The First Days
Bonjour everybody,
I’m Pierre-Edouard, one of the modelling interns at Framestore in London this year. I come from a school called ESMA located in Toulouse, in the south of France. Let’s get this Tumblr alive! I’m sure some of you who want to apply in 2016, and others just by curiosity want to know more about the Framestore Launchpad. I’m going to try to tell you more about how it is going throughout the following weeks from my side, and I hope that my intern mateys will join me on this so you get a look from every department. Basically this year, the internship is split into three parts : - You work on one of the shows with the other artists from your department 4-5 days a week. Since all the projects are confidential we won’t really talk nor show anything about it. But that doesn’t prevent us from talking about the kind of work we are doing and the things we experience, we’ll just avoid the details to let you guys still have fun in the theatres next year ! - You work on a personal project every Friday and/or in your free time (you can access the studio every day at any hour) and you get feedback, help and good advice from your mentor, your team, and other departments, if the content of your project is not limited to the department you are working for, which is awesome! The guys and girls you work with are beasts with years of experience, and having the opportunity to learn stuff from them is really cool. -You listen to two presentations every week from different Framestore departments. In a conference room with a load of food and drink (yeah), a representative from a department comes and explains the role of his/her team in the company, the difficulties they encountered on previous prods, etc… These presentations are really instructive even when you thought you knew a lot about the department presented, and they come with a bunch of funny anecdotes on famous shows. The internship is an everyday enjoyment thus far and I think it will be the same until the end of my two months here. I like this quote from a previous intern, which summarises your first day here so well:
Day 1 felt like walking into Willy Wonka’s factory, but instead of the chocolate and Oompa Loompas you had jam and runners…
                                 - Ross Wilkinson The first weeks, you experience the perks and the difficulties of being part of something this big, with so many people, and it can be confusing at first. There is a lot of thing to learn on the company functioning, the pipeline of your show, home-made tools, but the more time you spend working with your team the more you get comfortable with everything. I’ll try to post some things soon to show/explain what it is to work here as an intern on a daily basis, and living in London as an intern too. More images (if i can), less boring chat. See you, les gens !
