It’s so pleasant to have unfilled drawer space. Cleaning off odds and ends from the #plate11 white oak design bench… and, magically, I have some place to put the things away. Much like my currently unreachable #atc tills, these drawers will be organized by common use (up at top) and a bit by size (the drawers are smaller at the top) but nothing more. I don’t need or want an elaborate system overall or for every drawer. I’m sure some things will find a “spot” but that’s all I’m going for. #whispermusicalworkshop #circumstancemanor #neversponsored #woodwork #woodworking @daedtoolworks @crucibletool @sterlingtoolworks @markbuildsit @bridgecitytoolworks @benedetto_archives https://www.instagram.com/p/COlJqDSDZPY/?igshid=guydlbom39ie

The bench is small. 60”x17” It needed to easily fit this space, on the back wall of my office where I spend about 10 hours a day. I was going wait for a beauty shot... but some folks are impatient @markbuildsit 😋 Still to do, arrange some tool storage, give the planing stop some more time to acclimate before fitting, and cleaning the general unholy mess. Wednesday, I wait all day like a child on their birthday…only to learn that conditions caused 12 truckers to throw in the towel and so it wasn’t showing. I shared a good laugh with the dispatcher. And while unexpected, my crate from @markbuildsit (#plate11) arrived the next day...on the coldest day in ages. I moved the crate into the garage and left it to warm. Warm would be just above freezing, but that’s a good deal warmer than the truck and loading dock. I unpacked it Friday, saw where they had speared the crate with a forklift tine (really? Is it so hard to freight stuff?) but do to Mark’s careful packing nothing was touched. I moved the individual units to the lower hallway, and let them rest. Tonight it all went together. #whisperworkshop #dbsmallbench #whiteoak #woodwork #woodworking #circumstancemanor https://www.instagram.com/p/BtZrz7wgYrn/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1nwmr1frva5sp

Greg’s doctors told him that heart disease was irreversible – he proved them wrong and reversed his coronary calcium score by 40% on keto
After having a heart attack in 2016, Greg, 59, from Australia, wanted to understand why, and regain his health.
His doctor and cardiologist told him that the best he could hope for was to stop the progression of his heart disease, but in 15 months on an animal-based keto diet his Coronary Artery Calcium Score (CACS), a measure of heart disease, had been reduced by 40%.
He’s also lost approximately 33 pounds (15 kilos), and dramatically improved his metabolic health.
In this interview, which has been lightly edited for length and clarity, Greg shares his experience with keto.
How did you discover keto?
In Feb. 2016, I had a heart attack followed by angioplasty and stenting (medical procedures that help restore the blood flow in the blood vessels). I was a little bit overweight, and so, my doctor encouraged me to follow a low-fat, reduced-calorie diet to lose weight.
After several unsuccessful attempts to lose weight, my daughter suggested I try a ketogenic diet. I didn’t know much about keto, but found some good information on YouTube from a Low Carb Down Under conference that had been recently held in Australia. I listened to speakers like Dr. Tim Noakes, Ivor Cummins, Gary and Belinda Fettke, and Dr. Paul Mason. And at last, my health issues all started to make sense!
My presumption about metabolic syndrome, type 2 diabetes, obesity, and so on, was turned on its head.
My presumption about metabolic syndrome, type 2 diabetes, obesity, and so on, was turned on its head. And with a much clearer and more satisfactory explanation, I started a keto diet in 2018.
Did you have any health struggles before going keto?
Other than heart disease, I was about 35-45 pounds (15-20 kilos) overweight. I took medications for high blood pressure and high cholesterol.
What were you eating before going keto?
Before starting a low-carb lifestyle, I was eating what I thought was a reasonably healthy diet. My diet included lots of carbohydrates like bread, rice, pasta, and whole-grain cereal. I also ate quite a lot of fruit and some vegetables, meat, and dairy.
In what ways has your health improved since starting keto?
Since commencing the keto diet in 2018, my CACS has been reduced by 40%, going from 132 to 77!
I think the most significant part of my story, is that I’ve significantly reversed my Coronary Artery Calcium Score (CACS), a measure of heart disease. Since commencing the keto diet in 2018, my CACS has been reduced by 40%, going from 132 to 77!
I’ve also lost approximately 33 pounds (15 kilos), and dramatically improved my metabolic health.
My HDL has increased by 73%, my triglyceride levels have decreased by 50%, my LDL/HDL ratio has decreased by 24%, and my inflammation is way down (with an hs-CRP at 0.3 mg/L).
I feel much better, have more energy, and my sleep has improved!
What does a typical day of eating look like for you now?
For most of 2018, my keto diet evolved as I found low-carb foods I liked. By the end of 2018, my diet had become what I refer to as a very-low-carb-keto-carnivore diet.
These days, I generally fast for about 16-18 hours per day with an eating window of 6-8 hours.
I start the day with about 1 quart (1 liter) of water and a milk coffee with 1/2 cup (or 150 ml) of milk, plus some cod liver oil tablets.
About two hours after my coffee, I eat a larger meal that consists of some combination of bacon, eggs, steak, chops, sausage, pork, chicken, fish, and cheese. I cook it with olive oil, butter, or ghee, and I eat until satiated.
A few hours afterward, I have a small serving of some combination of cheese, avocado, dark chocolate, frozen berries, milk, nuts, and leftovers from my main meal.
I don’t eat any vegetable oils, bread, cereals, rice, pasta, fruit, or vegetables.
Have you learned from any mistakes you made on your journey?
I’m not sure I would say I’ve made mistakes, but I have learned a few things along the way:
It takes quite a few weeks to transition to a low-carb way of eating, and the keto flu is real. Be prepared and don’t give up.
When I first started low carb, I tried to find low-carb alternatives to the foods that I had been eating before. For example, I tried to make low-carb bread and find low-carb alternatives to rice and pasta. In retrospect, I think it would have been better to find new low-carb foods that I liked instead. And over time, I realized that I love meat, so I began eating more of it and moved towards a keto-carnivore diet.
It’s important to listen to your body, and learn about how your body changes as you start your low-carb journey. As I progressed further on low carb, my appetite, taste, and metabolism changed and I made adjustments. For example, I added more salt to my food and adjusted my intake of animal fats over time.
Intermittent fasting is easier when you eat to satiation. It’s better for me to have one big meal rather than two or three smaller meals.
Do you think exercise is necessary for low-carb success?
I do exercise somewhat regularly, and play tennis two or three times a week. However, the amount of exercise I do is roughly the same as before I started low-carb eating. So no, I don’t think exercise is necessary for success on low carb, but I do think at least moderate regular exercise is beneficial for overall health.
What are your top three tips for someone just starting out eating keto?
Understand how the low-carb diet works for weight loss and metabolic health. That will help you stay motivated and on track.
Be prepared and do your research. There are lots of good resources, like Diet Doctor, on the internet and on YouTube. Find an expert you like and follow them.
Find low-carb foods you like and eat to satiation.
Comment
Congrats on your progress, Greg. Your story shows how “low-carb” does not mean just one thing, but instead it can take on many different variations. I am glad to see you found one that worked well for your lifestyle. It also sounds like you found physician mentors to help you along your path which is important. “I just want to say the keto diet is amazing!”
We received an inspiring message from Wayne who’s markedly improved his health with a keto diet.
“I’ve lost 48 pounds (23 kilos) since June 2019. I have more energy, I’m fitter than I used to be, and I’m no longer in pain from arthritis in my hands,” Wayne says.
Here’s his story, which has been lightly edited for length and clarity.
Wayne’s keto journey
I just want to say the keto diet is amazing!
I recommend the keto diet to everyone.
I’ve lost 48 pounds (23 kilos) since June 2019. I have more energy, I’m fitter than I used to be, and I’m no longer in pain from arthritis in my hands. I recommend the keto diet to everyone.
My partner introduced me to keto last year. I’ve been on diets in the past, but I’ve always put the weight back on after some time. Before keto, I indulged in biscuits, cakes, and chocolate regularly.
These days, I eat a big breakfast with avocado, eggs, and bacon. Lunch consists of broccoli and fish. If I’m hungry in between meals, I snack on macadamia nuts and almonds. But I’m no longer as hungry as I used to be, because I eat loads of protein and drink water.
If I have a meal in the late afternoon, I’ll only have a small evening snack like carrot sticks and cream cheese. Every once in a while, I make keto beef stew for dinner.
Before, I used to eat plenty of rice, which wasn’t great. These days, I substitute it with cauliflower rice. I think exercise is great on the keto diet since it helps you feel even better.
My top three tips are simple: minimize your carb intake, increase your fat intake, and if you haven’t yet tried it, use coconut oil for cooking meats, eggs, and vegetables.
Best, Wayne
Comment
Congrats on your incredible progress and success Wayne! Your story shows a very common example of how eating higher protein, lower carb foods frequently gets rid of the cravings and snacking on high calorie high carb foods. It can make a world of difference. Keep up the great work!

‘Low carb is easy because you eat good, wholesome, and tasty food!’
From depressed and constantly hungry to energetic and cheerful. That’s how Karien’s outlook changed within just a year of starting a keto diet!
These days, Karien, 52, from South Africa, is also 161 pounds (73 kilos) lighter compared to her highest weight. ‘Low carb is easy because you eat good, wholesome, and tasty food!’ she says.
Here, she shares her inspiring story, which has been lightly edited for length and clarity.
Karien’s keto story
Dear Dr. Andreas Eenfeldt,
Your website is one of the most comprehensive I have come across on the internet. It has been my go-to for information during my weight-loss journey. The inspirational success stories are amazing, and between my son, husband, and family’s support, it is the most inspirational boost one can get to JUST DO IT!!!
So how did I discover keto and low carb? In 2014, I visited Dr. Seeber, an endocrinologist, as recommended by my brother. She suggested I try the Banting diet, of which Professor Tim Noakes is a great advocate.
At that stage I weighed 302 pounds (137 kilos). I was shy, depressed, uncomfortable, and always hungry. I hardly left the house because I felt embarrassed by my weight. With the help of Dr. Seeber, I went down to 243 pounds (110 kilos).
Then too many things happened in my life and I got side-tracked from then until June 2019.
My weight increased to 256 pounds (115 kilos) between 2015 and 2019.
My son, Jaco, who is currently in his fourth year studying mechanical engineering at Pretoria Varsity, also had a weight problem. He did a lot of research into the keto diet in his second year at the university and lost over 88 pounds (40 kilos) in 13 months. Since then, he’s been living low carb and asking me to join him in this way of eating.
On the morning of June 3, 2019, I got up and got ready for work. The largest denim pants in my drawer made me feel like a stuffed sausage and they literally looked like they were going to burst off my butt. I started the keto diet on that day and never looked back!
In just 17 months, I went down to 143 pounds (65 kilos). That means that I lost 161 pounds (73 kilos) from my highest weight.
Before starting a keto diet, I had a number of health issues like high blood pressure, constant fatigue, high cholesterol, insulin resistance, painful joints, etc.
Almost immediately when I started keto, I felt much more energetic and my skin started looking healthier.
Almost immediately when I started keto, I felt much more energetic and my skin started looking healthier and people said: “Wow, you look so much younger!”.
These days, I have no more mood swings and within the first month of keto, I had weaned myself off all prescription medications for high blood pressure, depression, and insulin resistance.
Before keto, my diet mainly consisted of high-carb foods like bread, baked goods, pies, cakes, pastries, muffins, scones, sweets, chocolates, and starchy food like French fries, etc.
Nowadays, I usually drink a quart (1 liter) of green tea and at least ⅔ gallons (2.5 liters) of water per day. I am also a coffeeholic, and I drink it black and bitter.
Every day, I do 16 to 18 hours of intermittent fasting, and once or twice per week I fast for 24 hours. It definitely helped me lose weight faster as a menopausal woman.
Lunch is usually bacon and eggs, tuna salad, chicken salad, or leftover food that’s easy to warm up at the office.
For dinner, I usually have chicken or fish with loads of vegetables – roasted, cooked, steamed, or baked.
I’ve found plenty of easy, affordable, and delicious keto meals on the internet.
During the first six months, I avoided anything sweet. After that strict period, I started to allow myself a small piece of Lindt 85% chocolate per week. I also started making mug cakes (I used a double recipe and divided into three mugs to reduce the portion size) as a dessert on Sunday with cream and chopped nuts, and still, I lost weight.
I’ve realized that it takes a while to learn what you can eat and how much to eat for optimal weight loss.
Did I make any mistakes or encounter any problems? Well, first of all I’ve realized that it takes a while to learn what you can eat and how much to eat for optimal weight loss.
I don’t enjoy exercise, but I do exercise every day for 10 to 14 minutes of light weight training and ab-exercise in the form of hip circle 8 dancing.
My top three tips for anyone starting a keto diet are:
The most important thing is to understand the science behind the keto diet.
You can do anything if you put your mind to it!
Always have cooked bacon in the fridge for when you just need something to eat!
I will NEVER be overweight again. Low carb is easy because you eat good, wholesome, and tasty food! I hope I’ll inspire lots of people to live a healthy low-carb life.
Kind regards, Karien

‘I feel much better, I have more energy, and my sleep has improved!’
After having a heart attack in 2016, Greg, 59, from Australia, made several attempts to lose weight and improve his health by following a low-fat, low-calorie diet. To his great disappointment, it didn’t seem to help.
But two years later, Greg’s daughter introduced him to a dramatically different approach: a keto diet. After doing some research, Greg decided to give it a try. Can you guess what happened to his cholesterol and weight?
I have successfully maintained a low-carb diet and a loss of approximately 33 pounds (15 kilos).
My HDL has increased by 73%, my triglyceride levels have decreased by 50%, my LDL/HDL ratio has decreased by 24%, and my inflammation is way down (with an hs-CRP at 0.3 mg/L).
I feel much better, I have more energy, and my sleep has improved!
I feel much better, I have more energy, and my sleep has improved!

Congrats on your progress, Greg. Your story shows how “low-carb” does not mean just one thing, but instead it can take on many different variations. I am glad to see you found one that worked well for your lifestyle. It also sounds like you found physician mentors to help you along your path which is important. Keep up the good work! / Dr. Bret Scher

‘I am blessed to have discovered the keto lifestyle’
Can you put an end to lifelong struggles with obesity? Bonnie’s story is proof that it most definitely can be done.
Since starting a keto diet in 2016, Bonnie has lost 68 pounds (31 kilos) and came to realize that living a keto lifestyle is truly where the fountain of youth lies, she explains.
“I am blessed to have discovered the keto lifestyle,” Bonnie says.
Here, Bonnie shares her full story, which has been lightly edited for length and clarity.
Bonnie’s keto journey
Hello!
My name is Yolanda “Bonnie” Gallegos. I’m 62 years old and I live in Vado, New Mexico, with my husband of 45 years.
My journey towards a keto lifestyle began in 2016. I was sent to see my doctor, Dr. Gómez, who introduced me to a low-carb lifestyle. Before that, most of my diet consisted of carbs.
I’d managed to keep off the 111 pounds (50 kilos) I had lost after gastric bypass surgery, but I was never able to get below the 200-pound (91-kilo) mark.
Over time, stress came my way post-surgery and emotional eating started to creep back into my routine. As a result, I gained 21 pounds (10 kilos) and my primary care physician became concerned. I was heading in the wrong direction.
By the time I went to see the doctor in 2016, my weight had reached 228 pounds (103 kilos). Feeling this “heavy” was nothing new. I’d struggled with my weight for most of my youth and reached my highest weight of 320 pounds (145 kilos) in 2008. And so, since I’d been there before, I surely didn’t want to go back.
On my first visit with Dr. Gómez, she had me write down what I’d eaten the day before. When she saw what I’d written down, her response was: “Girl, you are eating too many carbs!”
She handed me some papers filled with keto recipes and instructed me to do online research on the keto diet to understand how it works.
Right after my first office visit to Dr. Gómez, I was sent straight to the ER because of swelling in my left foot and leg. It looked like my toes were going to burst. Dr. Gómez was concerned I might have a blood clot.
Luckily, though, eating keto ended up helping with both my swollen limbs and weight issues. Truly, it’s been a “fix-all” for me.
Life after keto
Ever since I first learned about the keto lifestyle, my health has been great.
Ever since I first learned about the keto lifestyle, my health has been great.
Today, I experience no more swelling of my ankles or legs, I have great blood pressure and blood work, and becoming active again has been the greatest reward on my journey towards good health.
I learned how to eat to live a healthy life. I used to live to eat everything in sight, especially carbs. Since going keto, I’ve also learned how carbs trigger you to eat more.
Keto has also helped me manage my emotional eating and made me realize that food shouldn’t be the most important thing in life. There’s so much more to experience and enjoy.
I’ve also learned that it takes less food to nourish your body if you follow a healthy diet. By simply eating healthy fats, moderate protein, and 20 grams of carbs daily, you can find the balance you’ve been after all along.
Like most low carbers, I’ve made mistakes along the way, especially after my emotional eating crept back on Jan. 13, 2020 when my husband had a heart attack.
This was a stressful time, to say the least. When he suffered his heart attack, I gained 20 pounds (9 kilos). I was at 163 pounds (74 kilos) before his heart attack. Now, I’m back on track again and am working my way back toward feeling healthy by eating keto.
Thankfully, my husband, who’s now 65, is now doing well and has also lost 38 pounds (17 kilos). I consistently urge him to be strict with his plant-based lifestyle. I’m keto and he’s on a plant-based, no-fat, and no-salt diet. Both lifestyles have worked wonders for us. We have both found our fountain of youth.
As for me, since going keto, I’ve learned the hard way that it’s truly carbs that derail my journey toward better health. Eating them makes me ill — and I’ve found that it’s truly not worth it.
These days, I usually eat one meal a day after 2 pm. If I’m hungry after that, I snack on sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and almonds. Although I love fruit, I’ve realized that consuming it slows down my weight loss.
Additionally, exercise was not a part of my journey for the first three years. However, it’s important to exercise and keep moving. Once you see your body shrinking you can’t sit still.
I was morbidly obese most of my life. I am blessed to have discovered the keto lifestyle as a senior citizen. As they say: “better late, than never.”
Bonnie’s advice for beginners
If I were to offer advice to other people struggling with their weight, it would be to find a low-carb doctor. With a physician’s guidance, many people can follow a keto diet, consisting of a high-fat, moderate-protein, and less-than-20-grams-of-carbs-per-day diet.
Once you reach your goal, many people find that they can increase their carbs and consume around 30 to 50 grams of carbs while still maintaining their weight.
This lifestyle is all about eating real foods — and typically, there are no short cuts. I lost 68 pounds (31 kilos) on keto, going from 228 pounds (103 kilos) to 160 pounds (73 kilos) between 2016 and 2020.
Another piece of advice is to find inspiration from sources like Diet Doctor on Instagram and the Diet Doctor YouTube channel. KetoConnect’s Instagram account also helped me stay focused along with some other keto accounts.
Thank you, Dr. Gómez. You helped save my life. Thank you, Diet Doctor team for helping us on our journey towards a healthier lifestyle. Also, thank you to my Instagram keto family. ❤️
Respectfully and forever grateful,
Yolanda “Bonnie” Gallegos Instagram: @bonnie_lives_keto2019
Comment
Congrats on all your success Bonnie! And a big congrats to Dr. Gomez for helping you get started on your journey. I appreciate how you and your husband have each found your own path that works for you. There isn’t one diet that is best for everyone, and you each have found one that “works.” Keep up the great progress! Best, / Dr. Bret Scher

Ali says he and his family ‘all feel so much better’ since going keto
Emerging research shows that a keto diet has the potential to treat a variety of conditions, including obesity, epilepsy, and cancer. Oftentimes, the accounts of individual persons illustrate this the clearest.
For Ali and several members of his family, eating a keto diet was the answer to improving their health.“We all feel so much better,” he says.
The interview has been lightly edited for length and clarity.
When did you first hear about keto?
It all started back in January of 2018, when my youngest daughter, Alma, began to have seizures. This occurred three months after we moved from Sweden to Spain to start my new career as a real estate agent in Costa del Sol, Spain.
To seek medical help for Alma, my wife and two daughters had to return to Sweden. It took nearly four months for the doctors to determine that Alma was suffering from glucose transporter type 1 deficiency syndrome (GLUT1 deficiency syndrome), which happens when the body doesn’t effectively supply carbs to her brain. As a result, she experienced seizures.
The doctors told us that there were only two ways to treat GLUT1 deficiency syndrome. Either, we had to treat Alma’s condition via medication — or we could put her on a ketogenic diet.
And so, in May of 2018, Alma started eating keto. To be honest, we didn’t think much about this dietary change — other than how sad I felt that she could no longer enjoy yummy foods, such as ice cream, cookies, and candy, like other children.
What caused you to start following a keto diet?
Time went by and Alma got used to her new diet. But by April of 2019, my wife began to experience medical issues of her own.
Her back was constantly hurting her — and after paying the doctors a visit, they told her the pain was stress-induced, advised her to take it easy, and instructed her to come in for an MRI. Two days post-MRI, she was called into the emergency room because her sixth vertebra was severely affected by cancer.
They then diagnosed her with plasmacytoma, a plasma cell tumor growth in the bones, or soft tissue. This turned my world upside down. I was so desperate that all I could think was, ‘How can I fix this situation?’
At that time, I started reading more about keto. Back when Alma started the diet, I remembered reading about how some scientific evidence suggested that you could potentially use a keto diet to help treat cancer.
One year later, my wife’s cancer is under control, and we all feel so much better.
I studied the diet day and night — and before long, I thought my wife should give it a try.
That’s right around the time when I found Diet Doctor, which quickly became my sanctuary. When I felt I had gathered all the necessary information, I said to my wife, “Let’s change our lives.”
One year later, in a miraculous turn of events, my wife’s cancer is under control — and we all feel so much better eating this way.
What has been the most rewarding thing about living low carb?
A lot of things. My daughter is developing beautifully and she doesn’t need to take a lot of medication to treat her seizures.
My wife has no inflammation in her body, and she is handling her cancer treatment amazingly because of the nutritious food that she’s eating.
Last but not least, since I cut out carbs on June 22, 2019, I no longer have high blood pressure, IBS, mood swings, snoring, or poor self-esteem.
What are your top three tips for someone just starting out eating keto?
First, should you decide to start changing your life, always do it for yourself.
First, should you decide to start changing your life, always do it for yourself. Not for your spouse, children, family, or doctors. Do it for yourself.
If you don’t, you’ll always have an excuse to quit. It’s not easy to do a radical life change, especially when it comes to diet.
Second, try to make things simple in the beginning. Find easy recipes that are fun to cook and eat. Don’t think about whether you’re eating “dirty” or “clean” keto. Take one step at a time. As a project manager, I have learned the agile approach is the right approach. If you make things too hard, it’s easy to fall off the wagon.
Last but not least, don’t look at your weight. It’s your inside – not your outside – that matters. There is a quote that I love, which goes ‘It’s not lose weight to get healthy, it’s get healthy to lose weight.’
Before, when I started any diet or lifestyle change, I always looked at the scale. If I didn’t lose enough weight, I would feel discouraged and start eating unhealthily again. Listen to your body instead of focusing on the scale.

‘It was – and still is – very easy’
Peter came across the keto diet while he was working out on his cross-trainer in an attempt to lose weight.
Soon after, he decided to throw out the carbs. And after just three months on the diet, he’d lost 35 pounds (or 16 kilos).
Since then, Peter’s lost a total of 73 pounds (or 33 kilos). To his great surprise, a medical checkup also revealed that he’d completely reversed his fatty liver disease.
He says that “It was – and still is – very easy,” — an experience which stands in stark contrast to many people’s preconceived notions about the keto diet.
Here, Peter shares his full story, which has been lightly edited for length and clarity.
Peter’s story
I’m a Swede who’s lived and worked in Asia since 1985. Two years in Taiwan, eight in Hong Kong, and 25 in Bangkok, Thailand (where I still live and work).
Just after Christmas in 2018, my two sons (then 22 and 26 years old) teased me about my weight and referred to pictures from when I lived in Hong Kong. Back then, I was playing rugby on the weekends and was physically very active. They said I should try to get back to that weight.
Since I never had any health issues with my weight, I never saw a real problem with it. But when I compared those pictures with what I saw in the mirror, I noticed a huge difference.
At the time in Hong Kong, I weighed 194 pounds (or 88 kilos), and in December 2018 I weighed 260 pounds (or 118 kilos). Without thinking things through I bet my children that I would lose 22 pounds (or 10 kilos) in three months. I didn’t know how to do it but thought exercise would be the way to go.
So on January 1, I went to buy a cross-trainer (yes – stores in Thailand are always open – except, as it turns out, during the COVID lockdown). I decided to exercise for 30 minutes every day.
There was an iPad holder on the cross-trainer, and so I started to look for videos on YouTube on how to lose weight while working out. Within a couple of days, I came across presentations about the ketogenic diet and thought that I would give it a try. The diet included things I really like such as salads, cheese, nuts, meat, and fish.
I stopped all sugar, rice, pasta, bread, and potatoes overnight, and have never looked back. I never measured anything, just left things out. It was – and still is – very easy.
In the first three months I lost 35 pounds (or 16 kilos), and thought to myself, “why not just continue?” as I loved the lifestyle.
Pre-COVID, I used to travel a lot, but that’s not a problem as long as you just tell people what you eat and don’t eat.
After 8 months, I had lost 66 pounds (or 30 kilos) and gone back to the same weight as when I got married in 1991. Since then, I’ve dropped another 7 pounds (or 3 kilos). These days, my weight fluctuates between 187-191 pounds (or 85-87 kilos).
I feel great and when I went for a medical checkup in August 2019, all values were fantastic. My fatty liver disease was gone. Since then I’ve also taken up some intermittent fasting. I don’t fast every day, as I eat when I want to.
During the COVID lockdown, I started to cook recipes from Diet Doctor and really enjoying the variety of dishes. I honestly have to say that I feel a ketogenic lifestyle isn’t difficult, it’s just a mindset above all.
In my job I attend a lot of network functions, and out of the food being offered I eat maybe 10% of it, as all other dishes are carb-loaded. Sometimes, there’s no food that isn’t loaded with carbs in the airport business lounges, but that’s OK. I made my choice and am very very happy with feeling energetic again.
I still go on the cross trainer for 30 minutes at least five days per week.
Please keep on creating all the great recipes of low-carb dishes. They are great weekend treats. When people ask me how I managed to lose weight and keep it off, I always refer them to Diet Doctor. I say just look at all the information available on the website and go from there.
Life is now, so let’s enjoy it and make the most out of it in a healthy way. Ah, I almost forgot. The single most expensive part of the ketogenic diet is that all my clothes are new (except for my shoes). Now I can’t afford to put on weight again, but then again I won’t with the ketogenic lifestyle!
Keep up the good work, Peter
