the set up — rafe cameron; part two
Tumblr media
𝘀𝘂𝗺𝗺𝗮𝗿𝘆: you've been one of the pogues since childhood, and your loyalty has always lied within your friend group, who is practically your family. when a threat by the name of rafe cameron begins to threaten the pogue's plans, they assign you to gain the trust of the dubious kook and keep an eye on what he's up to. however, now it's been six months since your friends set you up to spy on the kook prince himself, but what you didn't anticipate was to fall head over heels for the boy. your relationship had soon become inviolable shortly after your guys' first exchanges, much to your friends' dismay, and you two became practically inseperable. that was, until rafe discovers the truth.
𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴(𝘀): cussing, slight angst (?), topper being annoying, some flirting, possible mentions of drug use

-𝘀𝗶𝘅 𝗺𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵𝘀 𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗿-
The plan was finally set in stone. After many weeks of scheming and devising up a strategy with the help of Pope's unparalleled intellect, and JJ's bizarre inebriated ideas, you and your friends eventually came to an agreement. You had one month to gain the trust of none other than Rafe Cameron, Kook prince and vain asshole. You knew ahead of time that the task itself was not going to be an easy one, especially after Sarah had warned you of how untrusting her brother was with everyone, besides his dad. What made it even harder was that Rafe already knew that you were a Pogue, his number one enemy in the world. But despite his wariness and bitterness towards your kind, at the end of the day, Rafe was no stronger than any other man when it come to his desires and urges.
Sure you were a Pogue from the Cut, but you still knew how to clean up exceptionally well, and regardless of how much he loathed people like you, Rafe couldn't resist you when you'd show up at the golf course he frequented, dressed up in your short pink tennis skirt and a white polo collar crop top. You knew that the fastest way to the Kook prince's heart was through cajolery and the use of magnetism, so when JJ scored you a job as a bev cart girl at his work in order to be in direct contact with the Cameron's son, you transformed your appearance to that of a temptress.
You had been employed at the golf course for about a week before you had a proper interaction with Rafe. Before that, you were mostly being occupied by his best friend, Topper Thornton, who made it his mission to chat you up during your every shift that he was there for. It was a minor displeasure to have to endure Topper's desperate attempts at flirting with you, but you reminded yourself that you were there for one reason - Rafe.
"Y/n! Hey!" You heard a familiar, grating voice call out to you, stopping you in your tracks immediately. Topper.
"Hey Top," you masked your irritation through a forced smile as you quietly sighed to yourself, mentally preparing for the exchange you were about to have, "what's up?"
Topper flashed you a small, genial smile in return at the sound of your soft-spoken voice, "Was hoping I'd see you hear today, the other bev cart girl kind of sucks." He joked in his typical monotonous tone, shaking his head as he let out a half-hearted chuckle.
Behind him you heard a deep, dry laugh approach the conversation, catching you off guard at the sudden noise. Your eyes shot over to the direction at which the sound was coming from, and once you discovered just exactly who it came from, your heart skipped a beat.
"What a simp," the smoky voice of the dirty blond Kook teased as he nudged Topper's arm, "flirting with the damn bev cart girl."
You could feel heat rise to your, now, flushed cheeks at the low-pitched tone that sent vibrations down your spine. You found yourself peering up coyly at the tall stature in front of you, soon being met with a piercing set of blue eyes that locked with yours. His stare felt rather domineering as he eyed your half-exposed figure, which only made you feel more vulnerable than before. As if that wasn't enough, your breath hitched when you noticed the way he bit down on his lip subtly while his eyes found their way to your mini skirt. The feeling of Rafe watching you so intently had your body heat rising gradually, an impuissant energy coarsing through your veins as you watched him tower over you.
"I do have a name." You interjected, deriding Rafe's comment that felt as though he was reducing you to nothing but a beverage cart attended, which had you rolling your eyes internally at his ignorance. However, in order to refrain yourself from catching an attitude with the boy, and quite frankly because part of you was scared, you pressed your lips together in an attempt to keep what composure you had left in you.
Topper chuckled in regard to your statement, finding it amusing that you had the guts to, somewhat, stand up to Rafe Cameron. Something very few people did, and the ones that did, barely lived to regret it.
"Well excuse me," Rafe tilted his head condescendingly at you, an arrogant smirk forming on his lips, "why don't you tell me your name then? Don't think we've had a chance to meet yet." His words sounded welcoming but his tone told another story. You could tell by his burning stare and snarky timbre that he was trying to get a rise out of you, this was a game to him. But it was his mistake for misjudging the kind of person you were, because you had just enough stamina to give it right back to him.
"Y/n," you stated matter-of-factly, "I've only been here about a week now, but typically I'm the one delivering the drinks to you and your friends. Which seems to be often." You satirize back at him, your voice remaining at the same soft and subtle pitch it's usually at, which only throws Rafe off even more at your remark. You could feel a sense of chagrin radiating from the petulant Kook as he momentarily glared at you, only to be set off even more once Topper erupts in a brief fit of laughter, patting his friend on the back in a teasing manner.
"See, told you she's better than the other girl." Topper bantered at his moody friend, whose glare hadn't left your figure since you spoke last. Part of you felt like withering away the longer Rafe burned holes into you with his scowl, but you remained in place, refusing to let him get the best of you.
After another minute of Topper basking in the humor of the situation that had just occurred, he finally walked off back to the rest of his friend group that accompanied him to the golf course, all of course being Kooks. Your confidence seemed to falter following the absence of the preppy teen, now having been left with the irascible Kook who seemed to have inched closer to you since you two had been left alone. You gulped quietly as you broke eye contact with the dirty blond, keeping your eyes glued to the ground as you felt him approach you closer and closer.
"You know I will say, even though you are a Pogue," Rafe lowered his voice, the sultry tonality of it purring in your ear as he brushed your hair aside, "you are pretty nice to look at." His tantalizing words setting off fireworks at the pit of your stomach, feeling as though your knees were going to buckle beneath you.
Then suddenly, an idea popped up in your head. You were there for a reason, and that reason was standing right in front of you, the perfect opportunity right at your feet. Play along with him. You told yourself.
You looked up at him through your eyelashes, an innocent facade casted over your dewy-eyes. Your body language relaxed a bit, shoulders dropping as you attempted to invite him into your company before you spoke, "I don't see you doing anything about it, Cameron." You whispered softly, voice barely audibly to anyone besides you and Rafe. Your comment seemed to have taken him by surprise since his eyes went wide and his eyebrows raised instantly, but you could see a glimpse of amusement in his azure irides. A sense of victory washed over you as you realized Rafe was slowly, but surely, falling into your trap.
"Trust me," Rafe hummed to himself, looking your physique up and down once more, "I've thought about it."
You smirked up at him in response, "Why's that?"
"Because for the past week, I've seen you parading around this place like you have no clue in the world how these men look at you. So naive to the way they all gawk at you. I can't tell if it's just you playing dumb, or that you genuinely have never been told. But if that's the case, I'll gladly be the one to show you." Rafe whispered fondly in your ear, his body so close to yours that the smell of his cologne clouded your airways and put you in a daze.
"What would you show me?" You asked naively, acting as though you were blissfully unaware of the way that those putrid old, rich men gaped at you as you strolled around on your golf cart, hoping they could get a better view up your skirt as the wind blew while you drove by. Truth be told, their goggling made you feel queasy and uncomfortable, but you had a promise and a plan to stick to for your friends' sake, even if it was at the expense of your amenity.
"I'd take you out of that hell-hole of a place you Pogues reside at. Show you what it's like to be a Kook for once. With your looks, I think you'd fit in just nice. A Kook princess." Rafe's eyes began to darken with a strong urge to covet you to accept his offer, except little did he know, it was exactly what you wanted to hear from him.
"So prove it to me."
∘₊✧──────✧₊∘
"No fucking way." Kiara expressed in disbelief at the recount of your interaction with Rafe Cameron earlier that day. Proud was an understatement to describe the feeling your friends' had towards you once you had told them just how the boy immediately fell for your tricks. In all honesty, the Pogues, yourself included, assumed it would take a bit of time to weasle your way into Rafe's interest, but in reality all it took was a short tennis skirt and flashing your doe eyes at him. It was almost comical how fast the leery Kook fell for it and you.
"So now what? Where do we go from here?" You asked, walking over to the dilapidated couch where your best friend, JJ, sat with a joint in his hands. As usual, you found your seat right in JJ's wide-open lap as you gently snatched the blunt right from his fingers and putting it in-between your gloss covered lips. The blond frowned at the theft of his beloved joint, but his sorrows were soon erased as he watched you inhale, becoming entranced in your movements, unbeknownst to you.
"Just keep things going with him," Sarah added, "keep him interested. Rafe's usually the type to use girls and disregard them afterwards, so you've got to keep him on his toes."
You sighed in response, taking in the magnitude of how difficult the plan your friends' conspired may be. "Alright, sounds easy enough." You replied sardonically.
"He's not going to be an easy one to crack, but we've got to do this. If this doesn't work, we'll all be fucked." Pope chimed in with his typical state of panic and distress.
"It'll be fine, Pope. Y/n has got this." Kiara reassured, flashing you a small supportive smile as if she could sense your own self-doubt radiating off of you.
"Well I'm going to bed, it's been a long day," John B announced as he stood up from the armrest of the couch, "good job with everything you did today, y/n. Knew you could do it." He smiled as he approached you, giving you an encouraging high-five before ruffling up your hair some. Behind the brunette came Sarah, who followed him back to his bedroom once she said her goodnight's to everyone in the living room.
"I think we're gonna head out, too. Pope has been stressing me out about this damn plan all day and my head hurts." Kiara commented shortly after Sarah and John B exited the room, "I'll see you guys tomorrow." She gave a soft smile before dragging Pope to the spare bedroom of the chateau with her. With the new absence of your coupled-up friends, you found yourself sitting in a comfortable silence with your blond best friend, JJ. You sat slouched horizontally across his lap, feeling his warm fingertips trace gentle lines across your exposed thighs.
"Y/n?" JJ muttered, his blue eyes somewhat hazy from the high he was experiencing.
"Hmm?" You hummed tiredly as you turned your head to face him.
"You're not like, actually gonna date him.. Are you?" The boy asked with all sincerity in his voice, which made your heart flutter.
"Of course not, that'd be crazy." You laughed, shrugging off JJ's evident concern.
"Okay good. Yeah I just, I don't know, that dude is crazy. A girl like you shouldn't be caught up with someone like that." JJ stated, scratching the back of his head as the feeling of awkwardness crept up on him while he approached the new topic.
"What do you mean by that?" You raised your eyebrow at him in confusion, lost by what point he was trying to get at.
"Well you.. You're you, and Rafe, he's just insane. Dude gets in fights every other week, I mean he's definitely got to be on something. No sober, right-minded person acts like he does and he just-"
"What about me?" You interrupted the blond's endless tangent, which could have went on for hours if you let him keep talking.
"Oh. Well you know, you're important to me and I just don't want you getting hurt by him. He's not a good guy, y/n. And if he ever did something to you I'd kick that son of a bitch right in his-"
"JJ," you stopped him, laughing at his blethering, "that's not going to happen, I promise you. So don't worry about it." You assured him, shaking your head lightheartedly.
"Just sayin'." JJ added as he shrugged, his back beginning to sink further into the couch as his body grew more relaxed. You found comfort in that moment with your dearest friend, watching his chest rise and fall gradually as he breathed. You felt yourself growing more and more drowsy as the mixture of silence and a comatose state washed over you. Ignoring the fact that you were still sat in JJ's lap and not having the energy to care to move off of it, you allowed yourself to rest gently against JJ's chest, his warm skin heating you up like a blanket. He accepted your gesture and gave you room to snuggle up into him, nuzzling your face into his neck gently. Before sleep could fully take over, you felt JJ shift a bit as he leaned over to grab the nearest blanket next to him, throwing it over the two of you just before shutting his eyes and dozing off to sleep himself.
It was safe to say you felt a great sense of accomplishment at what you had managed to achieve that day, with Rafe seeming to so easily give in to his desire and invite you into his life without much question. However, it was just the beginning and you still had an entire month to gain his trust and keep it. It all seemed so easy, but anything involving Rafe Cameron was bound to be complicated.
But nobody could have anticipated what was to come.

We are straight up world building right now and I love it for us! Okay so Kalvin wasn’t anything special, Ben only got with him because he was horny and thought Kalvin was hot. They had a fling, wasn’t even a proper relationship or anything really and now that Kalvin is gone – Ben has begun romanticising his existence in his mind.  He thinks Kalvin was thoughtful because he used to make him breakfast some mornings and Kalvin was kind because he held him while he slept. Kalvin didn’t want Ben and he didn’t want their baby, Ben didn’t want Kalvin, but he did want their baby.  Ben wasn’t necessarily one for that nuclear family thing, he doesn’t care much for tradition, he had genuinely underestimated the difficulty of being a single mum. Now he longs for someone to be at his side and seeing as Kalvin was his most recent partner, he’s who is gilling that gap. Ben wants what Kieran and Leo have, someone to help with the kids and the routine, someone to laugh with and vent with and just be with. Ben is lonely and it’s a new feeling for him.
He met Wilo through work and Wilo knew straight away that Ben had a kid because Ben has a photo of his son who is 13 months old, as his lockscreen on his phone. What Wilo didn’t find out for a long time was that Ben was single, Wilo believed that Ben had a partner and Ben let him because it was easier than potentially having to answer the same invasive questions his parents and friends and everyone else had asked upon learning he was a single parent. Ben hates being questioned. Wilo found out from Aaron that Ben was single and upped his flirting, he sees how Ben looks at him, he thinks he’s in with a chance. Ben has told him that he’s not looking to date anyone and Wilo has been respectful of that but still offered a casual hook-up situation that Ben finds tempting because god Wilo is hot. He declined and then forced Kieran into coming out with him because turning down beautiful men was reason enough to drink (Ben made Leo take care of his kid that night, Leo didn’t mind). Kieran just sympathises with Ben as he knows he is required to do. Neither Kieran or Ben would ever admit they are friends but they love each other. Ben wants someone steady like Kieran and Wilo is not that, no man who proposes casual sex is steady. Ben would know, it’s what he used to do. Kieran knows Ben has genuine feelings and is falling for Wilo and he doesn’t know what to do with that information. He doesn’t want to see Ben get hurt, but he doesn’t want to betray Ben by telling anyone else or overstepping by asking questions about it. Kieran will just be there as asked of him.
Ben has nannies, he doesn’t want to depend on his parents or anyone. He can rely on his nannies because he can pay them. He finds himself going through the motions when he’s with his child, just doing what needs to be done and interacting with him on a needs basis. He doesn’t realise he feels numb – he thinks he only feels that way because he’s alone. Surely the love and warmth Leo talks about after giving birth was all due to the fact someone else was there to share it all with. He loves his child, they just need to get used to each other he thinks. Kieran, Leo and Dec are all worried about Ben but Ben makes it difficult to worry about him, he’s excellent as masking.

that's me reading your masterpiece pls keep em coming!
ALSO
MY APOLOGIES I MISSED IT. right it's a son, and he's 13 months old got it!!!!! oh fuck I love the tiny bit of willo most likely using ben's wallpaper as a conversation opener............... say willo issa new guy at work, and ben has been on one year maternity leave. the first week ben is back to hybrid working in the office, he gets hit on by a dopey newbie 😋 who asks about "that's the cutest baby I've ever seen" AJSFHASHFAJAJFS U THOUGHT UR SLICK, HUH?
Ben wants someone steady like Kieran and Wilo is not that, no man who proposes casual sex is steady. Ben would know, it’s what he used to do.
DUDE THAT PART BROKE MY HEART ................................. imagine how it would break willo's too................... so what happens next? ben rejects willo's sexual advances, and? obviously willo won't give up? obviously he will change his methods?
ben romanticising Kalvin's existence........................ oh he's a hopeless romantic I see! I wonder if him getting knocked up was REALLY an accident or was it a somehow calculated move from ben? 👀 like maybe ben is a data scientist or whatever; he figured from the 'data' he gathered from kalvin (making him breakfast, holding him while he slept, picking him up from airport etc) - they could build a family together. but of course he was wrong!
ohhh got it. no grandma and grandpa for ben's son, not in the picture or they've retired to sunny mallorca~ I can see it! but ben is just making everything harder for himself, yeah? goddamn kalvin really did a number....................... wait so kalvin just gone like that? do you think perhaps Declan gets Kalvin's number somehow and begins contacting him, updating him about his unwanted son? or something? because Declan is worried, and he thought MAYBE just maybe kalvin back in the picture might help?
*prepares a new bucket of popcorn*

⇝ if they were canon ask game: 🎬 + annie liu pls!! -✨
(feel free to tag me if you wanna aksjaksj
Thank you so much for this, @oneirataxia-girl!! <3
HOW THEY'D BE INTRODUCED:
Since as I've mentioned before Annie and Steven live in the same building, I think Annie would be introduced right at the beginning of the first episode by knocking on the door of Steven's flat after he wakes up for the first time, before sweeping in with some coffee to offer him along with a vegan muffin from a batch that she made herself, before expressing concern about Steven's health and how little he sleeps. It wouldn't be a very long scene, but it would be good for setting up their relationship and the kind of banter they have.
WHO THE FANDOM SHIPS THEM WITH:
Definitely mainly the Moon Boys, but there would also definitely be people who ship her with Layla (given that she literally says "Marc, I think I'm in love with your ex-wife" at one point), as well as putting her in a poly ship with Layla and the boys. There would also probably be people who shipped her with Harrow or even Khonshu, but those people would be weirdos.
WHY THE FANDOM LOVES THEM:
Before Steven discovers Marc and meets Layla, Annie is the first person to really be kind to him and actually seem to care about him, and she continues to try and protect him even when it becomes very clear that he's the more powerful one in their friendship, and given that Steven is a very beloved character who the fandom wants to protect, I think a lot of people would appreciate that. I also think people would love her sense of humor, her bickering-to-lovers dynamic with Marc, and the very "girls supporting girls" relationship she has with Layla.
WHY THE FANDOM HATES THEM:
I mean, you just know there would be a ton of people furious that she's "getting in the way" of Layla and the Moon Boys, even though Marc and Layla are literally divorced (and also Layla's an aro-ace queen in my canon), as well as people calling her useless and saying she doesn't make sense in the story for going along to Egypt when she's the only one who can't fight. You know, just the general bullshit.
WHAT THE CAST RELATIONSHIP WOULD BE LIKE:
Pippa Soo is the literal best, so I think the cast relationship would be fantastic!! She, Oscar, and May would be such a chaotic trio, and I can totally imagine her having the best banter with Ethan Hawke.
WHAT THEIR AUDITION SCENE WOULD BE:
Probably either the scene where she tells Marc that she's going with him to Egypt whether he likes it or not as long as he's "dragging my friend's body along on your little treasure hunt," or the scene right before they go into the catacombs where she tells Steven that she suspects Marc might actually be the original inhabitant of the body. These are arguably the most important scenes she has with either of them, at least in season one, so it would probably be the one the casting directors would use to get a proper sense of an actress's chemistry with Oscar Isaac.
DEPENDING ON THE FANDOM, WHO THEY’D BE AT PRESS TOURS/COMIC CON WITH:
I'm reasonably sure that Oscar, Ethan, and May all did their interviews and conventions together for the most part, so Phillipa would be with all of them! If they were to be seperated, though, she'd probably be with May, and there would be half a million YouTube compilations of the two of them being cute besties together.
IF THEY SPOIL THINGS:
I mean, you know how Marvel is about spoiling things, so even if Phillipa was the spoiling type, I imagine she'd be too afraid to (😅).
IF THE SHOW/MOVIE HAS ENDED, IF THEY’RE HAPPY WITH THEIR CHARACTER’S ENDING AND THE ENDING AT LARGE:
Well, the story's not over quite yet, so... we'll see!

Pretty Girl III
a/n: okay, here is part 3. so sorry it took so long. pls tell me what u guys think. I've been so nervous to post this
w/c: 3.2k
pairing: Steve Harrington x reader
summary: Dustin wouldn't shut up about the pretty girl that joined hellfire to sub for Lucas, when Steve met her he understood why. and now they're on their first date
warnings: none tbh, idk if i even cursed but jic maybe curse words, fluff, tons and tons of fluff
!!!PART 1!!! !!!PART 2!!!
Tumblr media
Steve Harrington was officially done for. Completely hopeless. After the movie at his place, he could not stop thinking about you. He didn’t spare any time thinking about anything other than your pretty smile and your pretty eyes and your pretty hand in his. Which obviously prompted Robin’s nonstop teasing.
The movie night had been a success, when it ended, he begrudgingly played chauffeur for everyone. Steve complained about driving everyone around all the time, but he genuinely didn’t mind it. In fact, he kind of loved it. He liked feeling needed. He would never admit it to Robin and the rest of the arrogant little pests. He had enough with the teasing about you, he wasn’t going to willingly give them any more ammunition.
On the drive to everyone’s homes he was thinking of a thousand ways to ask you on a proper date, but in the end, Dustin insisted on being dropped off last, claiming to have something really important to talk to Steve about. When the little moron started talking about this ‘very important’ thing, Steve felt like he was going to combust.
“You totally like (y/n) right?”
“Henderson, this better not be what you wanted to talk about.”
“What? This is important information. I could help you ask her on a date.”
Steve punched him on the shoulder. “I was going to, dickhead! When I finished dropping you and Robin off.”
Dustin felt so dumb when it finally clicked in his head. He totally cock-blocked his friend and he was going to find a way to fix it. And so there Steve was. Parked outside of Hawkins High, leaning on the hood of his car. The sun was setting behind the school, painting the sky several shades of orange and pink. The brisk summer breeze rustling some leaves.
Dustin’s idea was to have Steve pick him up from Hellfire in order to create a casual ‘accidental’ meet up. He kept telling Steve to trust him, arguing that he was a far better wing-man than Robin.
Steve had his arms crossed, digging the heel of his shoe into the dirt when he heard your giggle. You were walking out of the school with Dustin and Eddie. He was almost mad at how fast his face warmed just looking at you. You were so radiant you even made the Hellfire Club shirt look nice.
“Oh Steve! I totally forgot you were picking me up!” Dustin was speaking way too loudly and it made Steve roll his eyes. This kid was the worst actor in the world. The curly haired boy grabbed your hand and dragged you towards Steve’s BMW. “Look, (y/n). It’s Steve!” When you were two feet away from him, Dustin began to start yelling again. “Oh no, I forgot something back in the room. I must go retrieve that.” He turned around, walking away without another word.
You and Steve looked at each other for a moment before you both started laughing.
“I’m sorry.” Steve shook his head. “Clearly this was a set up. I just wanted to see you again, and I didn’t think Henderson would be such a bad liar.”
“You wanted to see me again?” You whispered, voice coy.
Steve felt like he was malfunctioning. There was no way one person could be so adorable without even trying. “Yeah, of course. I’ve got to tell you; I’m still finding potato chip crumbs around my kitchen.” He chuckled, trying to play it a little cooler.
You put your hands up to your face immediately, trying your best to hide the embarrassment from him. “Oh, god. I’m so sorry.”
“No, no, I’m kidding.” He gently grabbed your wrist and lowered your hands from your face. “Don’t hide that pretty face from me.” His hand slid down to get a hold of yours. Steve thought about how your hand felt like it was made to fit in his and how he wished he’d never have to let it go. “Actually, umm, I wanted to ask you” Steve intertwined your fingers. “if you would maybe like to go on a date with me. Just you and me.”
You looked up at him doe eyed as your head spun, Steve’s words were candy sweet and it made it very hard to focus. He was unknowingly chipping away at your heart with every touch and keeping each piece for himself. Honestly, you didn’t care, the second you walked into Family Video your heart was his for the taking.
“Y-yes. I would love that.”
Steve rubbed your knuckles with his thumb, in an attempt to comfort you when he realized he was making you nervous. “We can go do whatever you want. Say anything and I’ll do it.” His eyes scanned over every one of your features.
Everyone knew Steve Harrington was a charismatic guy. I mean he wouldn’t have been dubbed King Steve without the charm. But nothing could prepare you for this. Your legs felt like jelly with every word he spoke.
“Actually, I’ve been wanting watch this new movie. Top Sun or something.”
“Top Gun?”
“Yeah! Top Gun. Some guys in Hellfire were talking about it.”
His smile was big and warm. “Then that’s what we’ll do. I’ll pick you up at 8, okay?” He squeezed your hand before letting it go, immediately missing the feeling of it.
You nodded your head a little too enthusiastically. You stood there a moment, looking at him. It was now our never. You took a deep breath, stood on the tip of your toes and pressed a soft kiss to his cheek. Your heart felt like it would beat out of your chest. Without looking back, you sped walked to your bike.
You left Steve frozen. He felt a smile begin to spread on his face as he reached up to trace where your lips touched his cheek. Yeah, completely done for.
Apparently, Dustin had been watching the whole interaction from inside the school. When he saw you leave, he walked over to Steve and jumped up and down in front of him, giggling like a little kid.
“See! What’d I tell ya?” He was very pleased with his participation in – he insisted on naming the plan when he was briefing Steve – operation get the maiden. He was trying to help Steve but he was also trying to help you. Dustin didn’t know you super well but he thought you were one of the kindest people he had ever met. He thought you and Steve could really make each other happy and you both deserved that.
“Yeah, yeah, Henderson. Don’t get cocky.” He chuckled whilst he opened the car doors.
It was 7:56 PM and you were sat on the couch in your living room. You were trying really hard to keep your breathing leveled. This was your first formal date ever and it was with Steve fucking Harrington. You had never been more nervous in your life. Which is saying a lot because in the 3rd grade you had been in a school production of The Wizard of Oz and you were so nervous you puked all over the stage.
Steve wasn’t really doing any better. He had gone on hundreds of dates, especially recently; Heidi, Katy, Lisa, whatever. But this felt different, it felt real and as scary as that was, he was excited. He was standing outside your door, constantly looking down at his watch. He anxiously waited for it to hit 8, took a deep breath and knocked on your door.
The door swung open and when he saw you, he sucked in a breath. Steve couldn’t believe how lucky people were to have the chance to look at you, himself included. You were wearing this cute sundress; intricate flowers embroidered on the bodice, the skirt was the most flowy material he had ever seen, and the straps were made of pretty lace.
“Wow.” He mumbled under his breath. He just stared at you for a few seconds.
You looked down at your dress when he didn’t say anything else. “I wasn’t sure about the dress. I can change if you think it’s too much.”
“No!” He said entirely too quickly. “You’re like some sort of angel or something.” He was thinking out loud. Steve thought about how you looked like you had just walked out of a dream, delicate like a promise and pretty as the stars.
You smiled brightly up at him, your lips glossy. You took a proper look at Steve and couldn’t fathom how he liked you when he was literally the most beautiful man in the world. He was wearing blue jeans, god, never have jeans looked so good on a person. His cable knit sweater hugged his arms so nicely. He was, for lack of better of better words, hot and it made your face warm thinking about it.
With your bag on your shoulder, you stepped out of the house and locked the door. You made eye contact with Steve. “I’m ready then.”
He shook his head and told himself to focus. “Oh, yeah.” He was trying really hard not to stumble over his words. “Right, right. The movie starts in like 30 minutes so we should head out.” Steve walked ahead of you to the car, opening your door for you. If there was one thing, he was sure of, it was that he was going to be the most gentleman out of all the goddamn gentlemen out there. This date was going to be the best one you would ever have; he was going to make sure of it.
At the movie theater Steve walked with you to find some seats. “I’ll be right back, sweetheart.” He came back with just about everything at the concession stand for you. Popcorn, soda, candy, nachos, the works. You saw him struggling with all the food in his arms. You tried to help him but he kept telling you he could do it, so you sat back down. He started handing you the food and he looked so happy you really didn’t have the heart to tell him you didn’t like popcorn.
“Thank you, Steve. I was starved.” You took a sip from your soda, offering him the straw when you were done.
Steve smiled. “No problem at all.” He leaned forward to where you were holding the cup and took a drink from your coke. It felt oddly intimate but in a way that somehow made sense.
Almost every seat in the theater was occupied by other people. There was a family sitting in front of you and a group of friends one seat to your right. It smelled so strongly of popcorn and although you weren’t a fan of it you knew that the smell will forever remind you of tonight and that was okay with you.
Steve was looking at the side of your face whilst the opening credits of the movie played on the screen. The music was loud enough for him to talk to you without bothering anyone. “So, how’s hellfire going?”
You turned your head towards him and started to whisper. “It’s so cool, I still don’t really know a ton but Eddie is an amazing storyteller, really. We can never guess where the story is going and trust me, we all try. Actually, last session my character, she’s an elf by the way, she almost died. I was so sure she would but Dustin helped-“ You cut yourself off, realizing you had been rambling. “Oh god, I’m sorry. I do that sometimes, the rambling thing. I just get kinda nervous. Next time I do it you can just tell me to shut up.”
Steve’s eyebrows furrowed. “Hey, I would never tell you to shut up, okay?” He puts his hand on top of yours. “I asked you a question ‘cause I wanted to hear your answer, pretty girl. I like listening to you.”
I like listening to you playing over and over in your head. No one had ever said that to you before. Growing up everyone around you chastised you for talking more than anyone really cared for. Constantly telling you that you would only make friends by being quiet. So naturally it made it hard to believe that anyone could care about what you had to say. Opting to just not talk to people unless spoken to and saying as little as possible when they did. But Steve liked listening to you and it made your heart feel like it was about to explode in your chest.
“Thank you.” You sheepishly mumbled, looking down at his hand atop yours and then meeting his gaze once more. The feeling blooming in your chest was foreign but nothing about it was scary. It registered in your head how long it had been since you started staring at him. “Oh, um, how long have you and Robin been friends?”
“Just about a year actually. We worked at Scoops Ahoy together last year, before-” He made an explosion gesture with his hands. “You know, my relationship with Robin is completely platonic. With a capital ‘P’ as she likes to put it.” He heard you giggle and pride bubbled inside him for eliciting that beautiful sound.
“I think I know that, considering she kept making jokes about us holding hands.”
“You’re right, I forget that she is the most annoying person in the world.”
You bumped his shoulder with yours. “You love her.”
“Yeah, unfortunately.” He sighed. “She’s my best friend, I think she’s actually the only best friend I’ve ever had.” He said like he had just realized it in that moment.
Both of you were too busy talking to really notice the people around you. You weren’t really talking too loud but clearly loud enough to upset some of them. The guy in front of you got up abruptly and started speed walked out of the room.
“What about Dustin?”
“He’s my little brother. All of those twerps are.” There was a smile on Steve’s face the second the kids were brought up. “They’re my found family, you know? Robin too.” It was true, he barely knew where his parents were or who they were anymore. When he was a kid, they would show up to sports events sometimes, but only to save face in front of all the other parents. Now he had people, people that cared for him, that helped him and he would do anything for them. “My parents were never really there for me growing up and I guess I’m happy to be able to be there for all of them.”
Before you could reply to him, the man who had basically run out of the room came back, a teenage boy in an employee vest following him. The boy made his way in front of you both and with an apologetic look on his face said. “There have been some complaints about you guys and I’m gonna have to ask you to leave.”
You could feel everyone’s eyes on the both of you and it made you want to bury yourself alive. This was so embarrassing; it was like being scolded by a teacher in front of the entire class. Steve got up first, looking down at you. He could tell you were mortified and he felt awful. He reached out his hand for you to take, which you grabbed onto gratefully. Honestly, you were ashamed but the situation was so awkward it made you want to laugh so badly. You followed Steve out of the theater, trying your best not to laugh. The second you reached the lobby you fell into fits of giggles; Steve was watching you with an amused smile on his face. “You think this is funny, do you?”
“I’m sorry it’s not funny. I just…” You laughed out. “sometimes when I’m uncomfortable, I get so anxious I laugh.”
Steve chuckled as you began to settle down. He reached his arm over your shoulders and brought you closer to his side whilst you both walked outside. “You’re very cute, you know that?”
When you got to the car you both discussed what the next move would be now that the movies weren’t an option. You guys figured it would be a good idea to go somewhere you could talk without getting kicked out. Which is why you were sitting in Steve’s car in front of lover’s lake, paper bags full of greasy fast food in between the two of you. The crisp night air filtering through the open windows.
“You’re doing a good job, by the way. You know, taking care of Dustin and them.” You turned your body in the passenger seat to look at Steve as you spoke. “Dustin doesn’t stop talking about how cool you are, I think it kind of makes Eddie a little jealous.” You could see his face light up.
“Really? Sometimes I’m not so sure I’m doing too well.”
“You definitely are.”
Steve smiled. It felt nice to have his efforts recognized. He doesn’t do the things he does for the kids to be praised but the validation made him feel all warm and happy.
He grabbed a fry from one of the bags and dipped it into your vanilla shake. “Hey buster, you’re contaminating my shake.” You reached and took your shake from the cup holder in the middle console.
“Buster?” He snickered. “What are you? 40?” He grabbed another fry and tried to get into your cup but you moved it away. “C’mon. You don’t wanna share with me?” He pouted in attempt to sway you. And it worked. You rolled your eyes, a playful smile on your face, and held out your shake to him. simp behavior
The more you talked to Steve the more at ease you felt. You had never felt that comfortable with someone, you had gotten used to keeping people at arm’s length. It was funny, the more you did things you wouldn’t normally do the better the results.
Your gaze never left Steve’s face. “I forgot to tell you when you picked me up but you look very handsome tonight.”
“Oooooh you think I’m handsome?” He teased, a smirk on his face.
“Alright I take It back.”
“No no, you can’t do that. You totally think I’m handsome.”
You shook your head and smiled down at your lap. “You’re the worst.”
“Yeah, but I’m nice to look at.” He brought his hand under your chin and lifted your head back up. He tried to keep the dumb grin off his face but failed. Steve couldn’t look away, your eyes held something sweet and he couldn’t get enough. He had never been happier to have met one of Dustin’s nerdy friends. He slid his hand up to cradle your face, rubbing your bottom lip with his thumb. “Can I kiss you?” He asked, his voice like honey.
“Yes.” You whispered. Steve didn’t hesitate to press his lips to yours when he heard you consent. The kiss was soft, almost timid and the remnants of your lip gloss tasted like strawberries. He had thought about kissing you the whole night and now that he has, he was addicted to the feel of your lips on his.
Meanwhile all you could think about was how his lips were as soft as they looked. Your body was covered in goosebumps, this was your first real kiss and in your opinion, it really couldn’t have been more perfect. You felt his other hand move to hold the other side of your face. He smiled against your lips before he pulled away.
“So how handsome am I exactly, pretty girl?”

Emily was tired, but she'd spent all day overthinking and she was done, it was time to grow up.
She could hear Lily Evans' voice ushering Severus Snape away, he'd been coming around for several hours during the day trying to apologize, but he'd finally crossed a line.
"It's not your fault, you know?"
Matthew's voice caught her attention, he'd stopped at the foot of the stairs, one hand propped on the wall.
"Snape and Evans have been fighting for months now, I think it's because of what he's been doing with the Slytherins... you know, the cult stuff."
Emily averted her gaze to the fireplace.
"I know..."
Matthew hesitated, he'd promised himself that he wouldn't go back to being Emily's therapist, but something was different this time, it wasn't her usual kind of sulking.
"Are you okay?"
She looked at him over her shoulder and frowned.
"I'm not the one who got called 'mudblood' by a close friend."
"No, you weren't," He admitted. "Which is why it's so strange to see you all sad."
"I'm not sad."
"Is this about James?"
He didn't want to know, but alas, he'd asked.
"No," She made a face. "I don't think I care about him that way anymore."
"It's easier said than done," Matthew crossed his arms, his shoulder now leaning on the archway of the stairs.
"What do you want, Ruddy?" Emily groaned.
"I don't want anything from you," The boy replied. "But I have the feeling that you need to talk."
"I do," She said. "Not with you, though."
Matt nodded, he sighed.
"Good luck, then, have a good night."
"'Night."
Emily watched him disappear up the stairs, she didn't know why, but the memory of his burning gaze before he kissed her came back then, his intense determination as he held her closer... That moment Emily had found herself unable to move away, to say no. She wished she had his courage to just do stuff even when he was intimidated by them, she needed that kind of bravery tonight.
Lily Evans entered the tower two minutes later, Emily stood up abruptly and the redhead came to a halt.
For a moment none of them spoke, then Lily's face showed tons of fatigue.
"What now? Is it your turn to call me a stuck-up bore because I didn't agree to go out with Potter?"
Emily shifted her weight from one foot to the other.
"Can we talk?" She asked shyly. "I promise it's not a trick... I'm sorry."
Emily's behaviour towards her was usually hostile, tonight her voice was gentle, and even a little afraid.
"You're sorry?"
"I don't expect you to believe me," Emily continued, lowering her gaze. "I know you and Snape were close — I don't understand how can you like him... listen I suck at apologies, can't you just say it's alright so we can go to bed?"
Lily crossed her arms, standing straighter.
"No, I think I want you to try harder."
Emily groaned, she sat down heavily and started to think her words carefully, Lily inched closer.
"Boys can be cruel when they're not thinking — Anyone, really... I've been brutal myself — Matthew and I almost stopped being friends a few months ago, because I don't like talking about my feelings," She laughed dryly. "I don't know what is it about today that it just... I don't want to be a tormentor my whole life, let alone to someone who is... tolerable. I'm sorry for making your life a living hell these past few years."
Lily sat down, although she kept the seat between them empty to keep some distance.
"You didn't make my life a living hell," She replied. "I... can admit you're a bit clever... even likeable — that last match when you threw Lewis a bludger after he called you a midget... it was kind of funny."
"The boys walked me everywhere that week, they thought Ernest was going to try and get back at me," Emily bit her lip, but she was now smiling. "I mean, I lived in fear for days! Thinking he would spike my drink at some point with poison or something... Until Matthew cornered him outside D.A.D.A. class one day, poor Lewis... he looked so small in comparison..."
"Anyone looks small next to Matthew, he's a giant," Lily grinned. "Well, if it's any consolation, I was planning on murdering you in a much classier manner than poison, but since you've apologized, I guess I won't have to kill you after all."
Emily snorted, her eyes lingered on Lily, who looked like she'd been crying for most of the day, and yet still had enough energy to sit down and talk with the girl she'd detested for the last four years.
"Why are you being nice?" She asked in annoyance. "I mean I'm glad you're kind of accepting my apology, but I thought you'd be a bit colder, walking away before I could even finish..."
"What kind of person do you think I am?" Lily raised a brow, with the orange light coming from the fireplace her green eyes looked far more intense than usual. "If I'm honest, you should thank Remus... he's tried to convince me that you lot are far better than you look..."
Emily sighed, when she was young she'd do mischief for fun, but now that she was older, and considering all the weird stuff that was happening outside the school, she was starting to think that maybe her group of friends were indeed changing for the best.
"I'm going to be honest with you too, Evans," The girl took a deep breath. "Being the only girl in my friend group is turning out to be pure torture. I'm in desperate need of a girlfriend."
Lily's mouth twitched a bit, but she didn't laugh.
"What makes you think I want to be your friend?"
"Oh, I don't think you want to," She raised a brow. "But maybe if we're on good terms I'd be able to ask you for a tampon without having to swallow my pride first."
Lily did laugh at this, she shook her head. "Holy Merlin, Sultens, you're loopy."
"You would be too if you were seated next to Sirius every day!" She paused. "So... are you willing to make peace?"
Lily examined her carefully, four long years of quarrels sat between them, but a lifetime of friendship could be ahead if Emily was truly sorry. She was a nice girl, and really smart too, she was annoying only when she was taunting Severus, and he was no longer her friend.
Lily stretched out her hand.
"Very well, but if you go back the deal is over and we'll be less than strangers, understood?"
"Sure."
She retreated her hand before Emily could grab it.
"Hang on — this is not Potter's idea, right? You're not trying to be my friend just so I date him later?"
"Lily, if anything I hope you and James never date," Emily snickered. "Nothing personal, you're just way too good for him."
"...Alright."
They shook hands, she'd meant what she said about it not being personal. James was a boy, a very silly one at that, and even though they were really close friends, Emily was no longer a blind supporter of his doings.
Funnily enough, this seemed to be related to Matthew, she couldn't stop thinking about that kiss! Merlin, he was a good kisser...
She shook the thought away, now was not the time for nonsense.
"I'm very honoured to be your acquaintance, Evans," Emily grinned.
"Call me Lily. Only Professors call me Evans... and Potter, but you know I hate that."
"Got it, Lils."

July 1996
"...I don't think this is right," Mel tilted her head. "Brownies are mean to be brown... not pitch-black."
"You burned them," Harry was standing behind them with his arms crossed, clearly upset.
"How could you burn them, Erick? They were in there for five minutes!"
"Are you sure..." Erick stabbed the mixture with a knife and made a face. "Ugh — they're still liquid in the middle!"
"How the fuck did you do this?"
"I thought it would work just the same if I doubled the heat and put less time," Erick sulked. "Ovens are weird."
"This is why we told you to stay out of it," Harry replied. "You don't know how muggle stuff work."
"I do know!"
"Then why did you burn the brownies?"
"Don't fight," Mel intervened, grabbing the platter and throwing its contents away. "Oh well, at least we ruined my birthday cake and not someone else's..."
"That's not okay," Harry frowned. "You should have a proper cake."
Mel looked at him and grinned. "I'll eat yours, then."
"How's everything going in here?" Emily walked in, behind her Lupin followed.
"Uncle Lu!" Mel rushed over to his side and hugged him, the man chuckled. "You came!"
"Well, hadn't been around for your birthday in a long time, I thought you'd like it," He said, lovingly patting her back.
"I do," She beamed. "We kind of ruined the cake, though, so we should buy doughnuts or something."
"It's a good thing I brought this, then," Lupin lifted his bag and placed it on the table, inside there was a beautifully adorned red velvet cake.
"You just saved my birthday!"
Harry and Erick shared a moody expression and grumbled complaints, Lupin laughed.
"The kids insisted on doing the cakes this year," Emily explained. "I told them it was not an easy job, but they insisted."
"Mel and I have done this before, Erick was the one who wanted to be in charge when he can't even make tea without magic," Harry glared at him.
"Muggles stuff are too complicated, alright?" He huffed.
"I don't mind," Mel said without paying attention to them, she was still beyond happy with her uncle's presence. "I wanted to give my mum a break, Leggie's been a bit hard to handle lately..."
"Is he?" Lupin looked at the little boy Emily was holding. "Is he ill?"
"No, he just cries a lot," The woman sighed. "Wakes us up every night."
"I thought that forcing my mother to bake when she's clearly too tired to be doing anything apart from feeding a baby was a crime," Mel stated. "So I took care of it."
"Then Flint messed it up," Harry taunted.
"And then you fixed it, Uncle Moony," The girl smiled. "So there's no harm done, right boys?"
She looked over her shoulder, raising a brow as if urging them to stop bickering before they embarrassed her in front of Lupin. Both mumbled their agreement, not quite meeting her eyes.
"Lovely," Mel looked back at the adults. "Who wants lunch?"
Tumblr media
Mel and Erick were in the kitchen talking in hurried whispers, she appeared to be upset, the young man too. Emily and Remus were in the drawing-room, Harry was upstairs changing Reg's diaper.
"Do you know why they're arguing?" Remus asked, staring at the pair.
"Dumbledore came by this morning before breakfast," Emily sighed, leaning her head back on the couch. "Talked about this mission he had for Erick — you know how eager to help that boy is... so of course the old man came and put his offer on a silver platter, and Mel won't let Erick go on his own, so being the generous soul Dumbledore is," She said sarcastically, "He said she could go too if she wanted to."
"Really?" Remus frowned. "Well... he's been giving her lessons for years, Mily, perhaps he knows she can handle it."
"I don't care," She said bluntly. "That's my daughter, my daughter. Matt's daughter. How can he continue to risk my family's life like it's nothing?"
"You know Matthew did all he that because he wanted to, Dumbledore had nothing to do with his decisions."
"I know," Emily took a deep breath. "But he's got a lot to do with Mel's... she idolizes him."
"You think so?" The man looked over his shoulder again, staring at his goddaughter.
"I don't see why else she'd be so keen to follow his orders..."
"Maybe because she feels guilty?" Remus offered. "After what happened in the ministry..."
Emily pressed her lips together, she didn't want to talk about that.
"That's not her fault and she knows it. I told her it wasn't."
"You weren't there," He said gravely. "She went out of control. I had never seen anything like it, her magic was dark— I mean that literally. All the spells she did came out pitch-black. Dumbledore was the only one who could put a stop to it."
Emily's eyes grew worried, she looked over her shoulder as well and her gaze landed on Mel.
"You think it could be the same thing that Ariana Dumbledore had? That disease?"
"No one knows what happened to her," Remus said. "Not even Matthew knew, and he was part of the family... but it could be. Maybe Dumbledore knows something we don't, maybe this will help her... perhaps she needs this."
Emily stayed silent for a moment, then she groaned.
"I hate that we're always meant to trust him blindly."
"He's lived a hundred years, he might be wiser than all of us, don't you think?"
The woman scoffed, she looked ahead, deep in thought.
"A hundred years... Matthew couldn't even make it to twenty-one! James and Lily barely did... Sirius spent twelve years in Azkaban — But at least we all knew how the war looked like then, Remus. We fought for years... my daughter just turned sixteen, she still goes to school!"
"And yet she's already done her fair amount of fighting," The man raised a brow. "We didn't have the experiences she's gone through when we were her age. I stand with Dumbledore, she can do this."
"I'm not saying she can't," Emily grabbed the empty plates to take them to the kitchen. "I'm saying she shouldn't have to sacrifice her youth. Dumbledore asks for too much, I'm sure he's got someone else that could help him with the mission, but he's obsessed with making Mel his perfect copy."
Remus didn't try to argue back, little could convince Emily at this point, she'd never been a fan of Dumbledore, and after Matt's death it was no secret that she openly disliked him, but she still followed his orders, because she knew Dumbledore was the only chance they had to win this war.
Mel and Erick entered the room, neither of them angry, which made Remus think they had reached an agreement.
"I should leave," The man stood up. "Leon's been quiet, maybe Harry managed to make him sleep."
"Or maybe he's just playing with him," Emily stood up as well. "Really, I never thought Harry would get so attached to a baby..."
"I'll miss you, Uncle Lu, I hope to see you soon," Mel said, her eyes avoiding to look into Erick's direction.
"Me too, little Em," Remus hugged her tightly, he whispered in her ear. "Be good to your mother, alright?"
Mel looked at him with confusion, but she nodded anyway.
"So?" Emily crossed her arms. "What are you going to do?"
The young witch stared at her mother, Remus knew that expression. It was true and very strange, how she could have her dad's gaze even though her eyes were exactly like her mother's, but he knew that look, he'd seen it in Matt the last time they had spoken. Mel was done being a kid.

Ok, so I haven't been able to comment much on my Riverdale rewatch mostly bc i'm watching it with my boyfriend and we have an agreement of no cell phones when we're watching, otherwise we can't pay proper attention to it. But I wrote down some notes about the episodes I did watch (I watched up until ep 6, which is very ironic bc apparently today is its anniversary, so yay for my perfect timing). I actually remember most of the stuff that happened in s1, so here's mostly a few things I paid more attention to or noticed about the characters and the ships, or things i'm able to look at through a different view now that i've watched all the seasons. Strap in if you want to see my notes, if not just scroll please, no ship or character hate here please. Also, feel free to ignore, this is really just a personal look in some stuff I didn't notice in my first watch.
- Betty's character used to be much happier and lighter in season 1. I know we're introduced to "Dark Betty" right in episode 3, but still, I feel like the way Lili played Betty in season 1 did not hold the same "darkness" as it does in the following seasons. The scene where she is dancing happily in her bedroom because she's going to homecoming with the boy she likes? The scene where she introduces Jughead to the Blue & Gold and gets him to work with her? Her genuine innocent happiness at seeing her sister again after so much time? The way she interacted with Kevin and Veronica? Those were all chef's kiss because she actually feels like a teenager in them. In all her girly glory, she radiates youth energy and it's a thing that was sadly lacking after s1. Btw this is not a critique at Lili's acting at all, I blame it entirely on Ras and his obsession with dark Betty.
- There's actually so many indications of Cheryl being a lgbt character in the first episodes that I have no idea how I missed it the first time. But then again, there were many indications with Veronica as well, and sadly that's not the path Ras chose for her.
- Jughead in s1 is truly so superior in so many ways that it's not hard to see why he quickly became such a fan favorite. I think even if he wasn't played by Cole Sprouse, he still would have conquered many fans' hearts. Sadly, the things that made Jughead such a loving and interesting character for me also fizzled out in s2 when the writing team decided to make him a woke serpent leader instead of allowing him to sticking to his true personality as a passionate mystery lover, a dedicated friend and very nerdy, which was very cute. I feel that we got some of that back for him in s4, which was good, but sadly s1 is where my love for him really stayed to stay. But I still care for him, and s5 has a promising storyline for him which i'm excited about, so let's see if s5 Jughead can become better than s1 Jughead.
- Going back again to Cheryl for a sec, I just noticed that the red lipstick actually wasn't that common for her in s1? At least not in the first five. I wonder when did it start becoming her trademark? Anyways, it's actually a really good look her and allows you to appreciate Madelaine's natural beauty even more.
- Also, did anybody notice how Alice lowkey figured out who killed Jason in ep 2 lmao, like... in episode two she legit says she wouldn't be surprised if the Blossoms themselves had killed Jason, which... is what happened LMAO, considering we know it was his father. And even more hilarious and tragically ironic note, in ep 6 she's laughing at Betty suggesting that Hal killed Jason because "do you think your father has the stomach for it?!"... Ma'am... i'm-.... 😂😂😂😂.
- This rewatch has reminded me of how much I adored and how I much I miss Josie and the Pussycats. The girls were such a nice addition to the cast, and their songs were so beautiful. I truly wish we get to see them again someday, but at the same time I also think the actresses deserve to be at a work place where they're given the treatment they deserve and not completely ignored and treated like extras.
- Archie/Valerie was super cute and is very underrated in the fandom, but i'm glad Valerie stood up for herself and didn't take any of Archie's or Cheryl's sh*t. Still sucks because they were really good together, though.
- Why was Jason not allowed to talk, lmao? Like, i'm sure it's become a running joke in the show at this point, but back when season one was airing what was the excuse for it? He appeared in so many flashbacks and scenes and we still never heard a single word ☠️☠️☠️☠️. I just want to know what was the reason lol.
- I liked s1 Reggie, but I feel like Charles Melton's Reggie is better because he actually feels like a douche with good intentions lol, and he has more of a personality. Most of the time I even forgot about Reggie in s1, but after s2 he definitely made me more aware of him. So for that, I like Charles Melton's Reggie more. But the actor from s1 still did a good job with what he was given.
From now on I will be talking about the ships, so bear with me, and know that I am a multishipper. Yes, I have my preferences. No, my word is not law, it's just an opinion, so please respect it.
- Bughead is still super cute in s1. I feel like from s1 they will always be my otp, even if I no longer feel as strongly about them now and have a different insight as to where I would like their story to go, and now I definitely see the problem others had mentioned before of how they kind of took over the show, which is something I kind of closed my eyes to before... But I really loved them in s1. It felt like a very juvenile teenage relationship, they didn't give much thought on why and if they should be together, they just went for it like teenagers usually do, and they were very very cute together.
- I feel like if you don't count Beronica (because they really were the best no matter what you say or ship), if there's a ship that deserves "best chemistry" award for s1 is probably Varchie. I lost my interest in them years ago, but this rewatch reminded me of why I actually loved them once. They never really became an otp for me, but Kj and Camila's chemistry in s1 was VERY GOOD, and I really liked them. Their kiss in the pilot was electric and the s&xual tension was OOF, and that chemistry carries on through the season. You can easily tell something will happen between them eventually. It makes me sad bc I don't know what happened after s1, but their chemistry from s2 onwards was just... not there for me. Which is ironic bc it's the season they truly started dating and they got a lot of smexy scenes, but I just... didn't feel it. But I'll leave that comment to my s2 rewatch. For now just let me enjoy Varchie's chemistry in s1 while it lasts because it was really good.
- Now we get to Barchie, who I made clear was the reason for my rewatch, so let's get to it. I LOVED the way Barchie was written in s1. I remember when I first watched Riverdale, I was curious about their dynamic but didn't put much thought into it because I loved Bughead too much and wanted them to be together, and I thought Barchie would be the traditional "first og ship" thing and wouldn't have a big follow up, but boy was I WRONG and am I GLAD for it. I'll talk more about their development in the next seasons when I get there, so for now let's focus a bit on s1. Just in like the first two episodes, there is so much Barchie foreshadowing, like, it's legit insane how it was right there in my face and I missed it the first time! "I have never felt what i'm supposed to feel with betty", "it's not my fault he doesn't like you", "I can't give you the answer you want"... Omg, those are obvious eyebrow raising "this will come back to bite you in the a$$" moments and it's incredible how they actually DO! I would call it clever writing, but like... it's Riverdale lol. So I really am just glad that the ship was done this way, i'm glad Barchie has the back story that they do, they've really come a LONG way and i'm happy I get to experience their whole growing storyline. It's also especially good because s1 actually provides you with scenes that show you their friendship and how they're so close, you see them hanging out, talking, their pictures together, everything was just really done well with them. Still have a bit of critique with the way Archie contradicted himself sometimes regardinf his feelings for Betty, but let's be honest, we've watched enough Riverdale to know that's just a problem with the writing.
- Kevin/Joaquin is still my favorite Kevin ship, i'm sad it's completely impossible to go back to them someday so for now i'll just be really glad it existed and that I got to see them even if it was short-lived. They had great chemistry and their kiss scenes always outsold.
- Beronica... sigh. Beronica. The most wasted chemistry i've ever seen on CW and I've watched a LOT of CW shows. There was so much potential there, s1 was practically overflowing with them and it's one of the reasons it became some popular. I remember when the Beronica fandom was the biggest one, ah, good times. Veronica and Betty were easily the best part of season 1, their friendship, their lowkey romantic moments, they were just superior in every way. This ship deserved better, not even just as a ship, but as a friendship.
- Veronica's s1 hair >>> Veronica's hair in seasons 2-4. I loved the side part and I am glad it's back in season 5, it looks so much better like that.
- Cheryl, as always, deserves better. Can't wait for her to meet Toni so I can watch again Cheryl finally get to love someone and be loved back, which is exactly what she deserves.
For now, that is all! I will probably make another post soon when i'm done with season one and from season two on I will be live-blogging the episodes since I will be watching it alone. Once again, pls, no hate, my thoughts are my thoughts. Peace.
