Laurya sits on the roof of her apartment complex, wings spread out behind her. She can feel her feathers shift when the wind changes. She can feel the dirt under her coverts. She can feel the soft setting sun warming up her face, then the strong winds cooling it back down. She can feel every microscopic detail of her body. She hates days like this, when she can feel everything. It's too much. She'd rather feel nothing. She'd rather be numb than this.

Laurya's muttering to herself, fiddling with her bracelets. One is made with black lava rocks and light blue Larimar stones. That one was a gift from Loki. It's the one that hides her wings when she's wearing it. Her other bracelet is on her wrist. Of course it is, she never takes it off. It's a thin, black chain with a single charm on it. The charm is a pressed flower encased in glass, a night-blooming jasmine flower. It never comes off.

Laurya kicks her feet, sitting on the edge of a roof, seven stories up. She can't fall, her balance is too good. Even if she did, her wings would snap out on instinct. Even if they didn't, she doubts that seven stories would kill her. Her, a goddess. No. She will not die today.

George glowered as he stabbed his fork into his dish, wishing it wasn't a steak he was stabbing, but rather another driver.

Another driver who's team not only stole Lewis right from under his nose, but also wouldn't stop glowing about it.

The drivers had decided on a group dinner for whatever reason, with George sitting on one side of Lewis and Charles sitting on the other. It was difficult for George not to glare at Charles any time he saw him practically fawn all over Lewis.

He still had one more race as a Mercedes driver, why the fuck was Charles already acting like Lewis was his teammate? The Ferrari driver had never paid so much attention to Lewis before and it rankled at George's nerves to an absurd degree.

Charles never stood by Lewis like George did. Never had late night conversations under the stars like they did. Never fought for Lewis like George did.

He didn't care that Lewis had chosen to leave Mercedes. Well, he did, but he had an entire year to come to terms with it. An entire year for them to talk and fight and make up and come out stronger for it. George knew that while Lewis was leaving Mercedes, he wasn't leaving him and what they built together as teammates and friends, and that's what mattered the most.

But Charles apparently didn't get the memo. And despite Charles not really having anything to do with the contracts being signed, he certainly was acting like the cat that got the cream.

As everyone headed for their motorhomes for the night, George paused in his car before making the snap decision to follow Charles' car instead of heading home. As they parked, George got out of the car, slamming the door shut.

Charles was already out of his own car, his arms crossed.

"Any reason why you followed me?" He asked, and George walked up to him.

"Yeah, actually." George replied. Now that it was just him and Charles, George felt his anger and bitterness overflow.

"After this season, I guess Lewis will be your new teammate." George started nonchalantly.

Charles nodded before gasping as George grabbed his collar and yanked him close, their noses nearly touching.

"Just know that if I get even a whiff that you or your fucking team isn't treating Lewis with anything but the utmost respect," George snarled, "I'll fucking make your life a living hell. On and off the track."

Charles stared at George with wide eyes before snorting. "Oh, what a knight in shining armour, you are!" He replied sarcastically.

"More than what you will ever be." George shot back, and Charles' lips curled into a smirk.

"Don't worry, George. Lewis will forget you by the time the new season starts. I just know he'll look lovely in Ferrari red."

George let out an ugly laugh. "Just remember, Charles. You might have him now, but Lewis will always be mine."

Shoving him away, George walked back to his car, slamming the door and driving off, fully intent on going to Lewis' motorhome and giving him a night so good he'd never forget George even if he tried.
