So today, for a list of notes/shit I've gotta do to this ute to make it functional:
Tray rust: confirmed simple surface rust. Sandblast the rust off then put down bedliner.
Whatever dipshit painted the deep blue on there painted over the bevel. Gotta strip that off.
It has tow plug.
It has 1 original key, 1 spare, and 1 petrol key.
Manual choke.
Heater core needs to be flushed the bloke thinks. Might need replacing, says me. The latter's more likely.
Engine has not been tuned up since rebuild. Will need a tuning now that everything's settled.
It has new manifold gaskets on both sides, new flange gaskets on both sides, and dual exhaust.
Brake master cylinder has a booster—bloke thinks condition of master cylinder is because of shit coating that leaves the factory being the cause of them all rusting. "It's either shit metal or shit coating." I'm inclined to agree—every fucken one I've seen so far that didn't have a brand new—or painted—master cylinder is rusted to fuck. On the plus side the rust is just surface rust but I'm inclined to test that servo housing myself cuz I don't trust it.
Firewall looks good.
No water leaks, wipers are ok but probably need new pulleys.
Window rubber is tight and good, had a boot at one time.
HE HAS A SLIDE WINDOW SOMEWHERE HE CAN GIVE ME!! Probably the first thing I'm doing on this car is installing that fucken sliding window and my rifle rack.
Rear signals don't work because the pins/switches are mixed up, also horn doesn't work. Need to figure this out. If I can't do it maybe I can get that sparky down the block to have a squiz at it.
Engine sounds fucken incredible. 360 V8 with C6 tranny.
GVW is rated at 07500 so it'll hold Matilda.
Wheels are 16in 6ply.
2 petrol tanks, 20gal front & 25gal rear.
Fuel gauge doesn't work. Bloke has the new gauge ready, just hasn't installed it. Maybe there's a problem with the sending unit. Considering it doesn't work for either petrol tank I'm pretty sure it's not a float saturation problem.
Whatever dipshit installed the old manifold gaskets had the wrong size square which caused a leak (maybe F350?)—this is fixed now! She rides smooth.
Rust above windscreen rim causing improper seal along the drain rail—luckily it's not rusted through. Can be fixed but may need a plate welded on. I can do that myself.
Old BB holes in windscreen. I like them for their character but they're gonna crack the entire windscreen eventually, especially in the Australian heat as the windscreen warms. Need to replace windscreen.
One crack in dash around radio, dashboard is clean otherwise. I don't care about the crack but replace radio with an early 70s AM/FM with AUX jack.
ORIGINAL COLOUR IS PEACOCK BLUE WITH WHIMBELDON WHITE STRIPE! Restore to og paint because bloke wants me to. "I'm happy if it goes to someone who'll treat it well and make it look factory."
Passenger mirror is cloudy, needs a clean or possibly replacement.
Engine was rebuilt less that 3,000mi ago and has a 100,000mi warranty.
Bloke will get me a copy of the work order of all the work done to the ute—total of $12,000 for the work done.
"I know he did SOMETHING with the transmission." Tranny likely not rebuilt but WAS removed for alterations during engine rebuild.
Has hooks AND ringlets for turnbuckle attachment for camper.
Has rig mirrors.
Has reinforced tray springs. Has reinforced front, auxillary, and rear shocks.
No carpeting on interior. Get rubber mats I don't want blood in my carpet.
Get a seat cover so Misty doesn't ruin the vinyl.
Has manual steering and manual brakes. Get power disc brakes put in ASAP. I can do the power steering myself. In the meantime, maybe a suicide knob?

Anyway I had a nice day at work. Filled with a moderate amount of stuff to do. Not too much, not too little. It was pretty much just a single long ticket I had to work on.
A branch told me their kiosk was frozen and unresponsive, but when I remoted into it it was not frozen. So I'm thinking that these shitty kiosks made with their shitty parts broke a touchscreen again, but no when i got to the location the keyboard was not working either.
Four USB ports on the kiosks went bad, causing pretty much everything to break. Except for the bar code scanner, weirdly enough. This is because we use shitty kiosks made out of shitty parts. Luckily we have four more ports. Put the USB hub into there instead and great it works again. Test all it's functions aaaand nevermind I can't insert coins. Why's that? Oh yeah so the coin bill acceptor has a config file that you gotta find deep in the depths of the software's folders. Once you open that up in notepad you need to find one line and change a number so that the software knows exactly which usb port it needs to contact to accept coins. You know, the antithesis to how USB plug-and-play works? This is because we use shitty kiosks with shitty programming. To top it off, its not even a config file stored on the kiosk! It's a file on a completely different computer! For some reason!
Anyway, you're supposed to be able to get the number of the emulated com port off of device manager and that wasn't showing up at all, so ooh boy we're experiencing problems because that possibly means there's a deeper issue involved. So I talked to my Coworker Who Has Recently Gotten Serious About Being My Supervisor because he's the one who knows the most and he was only kinda helpful. He did that thing where instead of telling me what to do he prompts me to think. Which is a little bit needed bc sometimes I act like a mindless drone at work? I'm not at my mental peak. But it's also annoying cause how the fuck am I supposed to know what you want me to do all the time? Sometimes I'm just asking him questions to save time, not because i don't know how to obtain that. And sometimes it's info that I couldn't possibly know because it's specific to this workplace. Or sometimes I just want to gauge when a certain course of action is appropriate.
Anyway I put in a help ticket with the company that made the kiosk and chilled with some vtuber clips for an hour or so. The company called around lunch time. I remoted desktop'd into the kiosk with my software, and then helped their guy remote desktop into it with his software. He poked around, asked some questions and decided he couldnt do shit so he transferred the ticket elsewhere. It was nice talking to him. Usually I only get to speak on the phone with salespeople, scammers, or clueless members of the staff that require a customer service voice. This guy was just another IT guy like me. Later I got emailed by them while eating a sandwich asking about the colors of the usb so I'm like fuck i gotta drive all the back over there to check on the color of some holes. Sat around for a bit answering his emails on my phone, confirming info, and performing all the same basic troubleshooting i already did (is it plugged in? Is it turned on? What's broken? Are the little lights lit? Which ones? What happens if you plug this into that instead?)
Just sitting on a box of paper I had to move out of the way to look into the damn thing (it was convenient actually. The stuff I was working on was low to the ground). And then I got to drive back to my office and watch youtube while my loud boss talked over it and our jury-rigged television blasted the sounds of the Olympics everywhere. I wish i had a quiet office

Ever wonder why medical equipment is so expensive?
There’s a lot of different reasons but let me see if I can break it down in a way anyone can understand. Firstly there’s a lot of standards medical equipment has to be held to. In order to make a medical device safe to use on humans you have to use specialized components designed for medical use. In my particular field (Electrical Engineering) you might be using a part that’s equivalent to a basic component you can get for $0.10 but your component costs $10. The reason for this is the medical/aerospace rated components are designed to be much more reliable than the standard part. And they must go through more testing than the standard part.
The second reason why medical equipment is so expensive is that after it’s been designed and a prototype has been made, before it can be mass produced and sold it must also be inspected by the FDA or other organizations to make sure you’re using the right components and it’s build well enough and won’t cause harm to the patient. This takes a lot of time to go through. Once it’s been approved and it’s starting to be manufactured every single unit must be rigorously tested. With normal products you only inspect every few units (usually one per batch) and it doesn’t have to go through as much testing because it’s not connected to an already very vulnerable human who might already be on the brink of death. These tests can often take hours or even weeks to finish so that adds more manufacturing time which raises cost.
The third reason medical equipment is so expensive is that I has to be build really well and be very durable. Things like ventilators, Infusion pumps, and beds are constantly being moved around hospitals during high stress situations and they can often be accidentally slammed into walls, having angry patients rip things out of them, having things constantly be plugged and unplugged from them and a lot more. Even electrical sockets are hospital grade. The National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) Has 3 different ratings for electrical sockets: Residential, Commercial, and Hospital grade. A residential receptacle will cost about $0.75 where as a hospital grade receptacle can cost anywhere between $6 and $30. Hospital grade receptacles have to have a lot more testing done on them and they are build much better than the other grades, they hold onto plugs way tighter than other grades and they are made to withstand many more cycles of having things plugged into and removed from them. If you ever look at the plugs on medical equipment you notice that they are usually much bigger than your standard plug, and they are often somewhat transparent. They are much bigger because they need to withstand being dragged on the floor, being plugged in and unplugged constantly, being ripped out of the socket by the cord and a lot more abuse, having much more area to hold onto the prongs helps out a lot with this abuse. Them being clear is so that you can very easily tell if something is damaged inside the plug and therefore you shouldn’t use it for patient safety. Even the cords on medical devices are much more rigid than cords you find in your home. Your average IEC power cord you use to plug in your desktop computer, or just about any power cord you find of anything consumer grade is most likely 18AWG SJT rated cable. That’s 18 American wire gauge, Stranded Junior Thermoplastic Stranded refers to it being stranded wire, junior refers to it being rated for 300 volts, and thermoplastic is the type of insulation. Your standard hospital grade power cord going to have a NEMA 5-15 on one side and a medically rated IEC connector on the other. They are most often 16AWG SJTW. That’s 16 American Wire Gauge, Stranded, Junior, Thermoplastic, Weather resistant. Weather resistant just implies that is can take being doused in fluids just not submerged. Hospital grade cords in the US much retain to UL 817 and NEMA WD-6 rating which says: blade plugs must be made of solid brass not folded, blade plugs must be nickel plated, the blade plugs must include a strain relief to reduce stress on the cable, and the connector must contain a green dot to indicate its hospital grade.
4th reason medical equipment is so expensive is because the companies who manufacture the equipment often get it patented which makes sense due to how long it takes to make. Many companies also build in custom parts and these days custom software which are also both very expensive processes.
Bottom line is that anything that might have the lives of a very vulnerable human physically connected to it is going to cost a lot of money due to all of the above mentioned factors. Generally stuff is much cheaper on the used market because it’s out of date and hospitals are upgrading to newer equipment. Recently there’s been a huge increase of cheaper and cheaper Philips MP series monitors because hospitals are upgrading to Philips MX series monitors. I’d love to get an MP series monitor especially because they are so cheap right now (around a $100 for an MP 30) but I don’t really have the room for one since they are pretty big and bulky and I don’t have much space for medfet stuff. There is a the smallest of the MP series which are the MP2 and the X2 but they are hard to find with all the cables and accessories needed for a decent price. Philips has proprietary connectors and cables that are very expensive so you’ll probably end up paying more for the cables than you did for the monitor itself. I hope I did a decent job of explaining why medical equipment is so expensive.
