I judge every history of star trek based on how the author talks about fandom and the genesis of slash fiction
#this guy is definitely approaching it from a cishet male perspective#but he respects women and gay people and he actually devoted a good section of the book to talking about it semi respectfully#plus he actually seems to see some of the romantic chemistry between Kirk and Spock#so I'm giving him a pass#he didn't talk about the gay writers on the original series but it's early in the book#and there is a chapter on lgbtq+ rep so he might mention it later
