Finished first draft designs of the hazbin cast- Alastor., Charlie, Angeldust, Nifty , and Vaggie.

Some of them got minor redesigns while others got revamped, so I’ll be going down the line and discussing my reasoning for each one (please note, these are not perfect, and probably are not animator friendly, I did this for fun, and a lot of the decisions I made were because I felt like it. Do not throw a fit if you don’t like them)

Alastor- when redesigning alastor I focused on 3 major details: that he was from the 1920s-1930s, he was from the south, and that he was a “radio demon”. I took away the voodoo stuff cause that felt like a really weird way to associate him with Louisiana culture, and instead went for the more “southern gentleman” feel using the slicked back hair and simple clothes. I also replaced his monocle with a full pair of glasses, because I think not being able to see his eyes makes him more menacing, same thing with the straight teeth. I made his color palette into warm browns to kind of give the vibe of an old timey radio- with a highlight of gold as well. Side note: I like to imagine he doesn’t open his mouth, and instead it just lights up like an actual radio- cause I think that’s cool character flavor. I also kept his deer motif cause ,apparently, it was supposed to connect with how he died- plus I’m always a sucker for the kind of evil character that has an innocent animal theme, super fun. (Also his microphone is sentient and does change the text depending on the situation)

Charlie Morningstar- I think Charlie is a lovely character, she’s one of favorites, but she felt pretty plain in some aspects. I learned that she was kind of inspired by porcelain dolls, which gave me an interesting idea of making into kind of a “devils Pinocchio”- because what’s more innocent than a doll imbued with the power of her father’s dreams? So I really leaned into the soft friendly doll look, giving her ball joints and large eyes that stare into your soul. I softened a lot of her colors and gave her rounder shapes as well as leaning into the goat aspects of her character, because i thought it could be fun to have her play off the deer motif that alastor has.

Angel Dust- My boy , my good lad. He is also pretty solid when it comes to design , however- HE DID NOT LOOK LIKE A SPIDER. I had no idea that his freckles were supposed to be eyes until I rewatched it. Soooo I definitely tried to make him more spider like by making his eyes more prominent and giving him pointy side burns that act as mandibles. I also gave him him his spider butt and some weird ass legs. Oh and , unrelated, I like to imagine he does burlesque.

Nifty- MY FAVORITEE , I love nifty guys, she’s my POOKIE bear. When going into her design I knew I wanted to make her look older since I thought it was weird how much she was infantilized so I gave her lipstick and pearl earrings to make her look more like a refine 1950s housewife, as well as give her an apron and cleaning gloves to make her feel more like a maid. I also leaned into her subtle bug theme by giving her antennae, and giving polka dots on her dress for a very subtle lady bug theme (cause she’s my little lady). Some more small things I gave her a little swirl in her bangs to call back to victory rolls, as well as some subtle hints of green to call back to the uranium craze of that time.

Vaggie- she was difficult. Initially, I had no idea what I wanted to do with her, but I think that’s also because she’s not a very fleshed out character? Her whole story is kind of , Support Charlie and be a fallen angel.(still love chaggie tho) So I took some creative liberties, and gave her a more mature look- with some periwinkle to act as a subtle hint to her angelic nature. I also gave her the monocle from alastor design cause I thought it made more sense for her? Like, if anyone is gonna have the one eyed visual aid it’s gonna be the bitch with one eye. It also makes her look more matured? And I gave her a moth broach to call back to her moth inspo.

Annnd that’s it! I’ll be working on the next batch soon, which will likely have husk and sir pentious, if you have any other people you wanna see lmk!

i love that they changed how the three of them ended up going into auntie em’s because before it was a little concerning that none of them figured out it was medusa. Plus having a fury outside just adds to the tension a perfect amount i think, because it really traps them in there

all the discussion about the gods and what medusa talks to percy about in the kitchen - YES MAKE ME HATE THEM!! All of this is adding up to lukes motivations making so much sense in the end

ALSO!! Them harkening back to sallys line in the first episode when she tells percy that not all heroes look like heroes and not all monsters look like monsters - they brought it back so perfectly. Percy wanting to trust medusa because of what his mom said, medusa calling Poseidon a monster, ALL OF IT is so good

When theyre down in the basement and grover puts on the shoes and then just fucking. Flies away and disappears into the darkness yelling a little. and annabeth and percy just kind of helplessly watch him go before being like - welp i guess that plans not working. That was peak comedy

them using annabeths hat on medusa and then using it to kill alecto THEY WERE SO SMART FOR THAT!!! Also percy just the invisible severed head was a hilarious concept to me

when percy suggests burying the hat in the ground with the hat on to make sure no one bad finds it and annabeth just!!! Agrees!!! And then grover has to be like no that hats important to her its a gift from her mother!!! And then percys like well we’ll find another solution then. That whole scene was good yes i liked that

also annabeth revealing that grover was her protector too and percy asks about it and grover just changes the subject and doesnt answer. He is the KING of avoidance

also grover finally interrupting annabeth and percy when they start fighting and giving his whole speech about getting along. That wouldve felt a little cheesy and preachy and out of place from anyone else but considering grover tried to get them to sing the consensus song a few hours earlier i fully believe that he would say that

Even before the episode, while rewatching old seasons, I was just struck by how big an impact Buck’s had on Eddie’s life.

All of this... it happens in the first FOUR episodes of s2 after Eddie is introduced. No wonder he’s in love ride or die for Buck. Who wouldn’t be?

Everyone has noticed how Vaggie's wings have changed their colour from black-white palette ("rules are black and white") to grey ("rules are shades of gray"), but there's another detail someone could find interesting:

She had only one black stripe on her wings, while all other exorcists, including Lute, have two black stripes. I firstly payed attention to it in the scene where Lute was ripping Vaggie's wings off and thought that Vaggie gained it as a result of not killing a child, showing truly angelic mercy. Then I rewatched the episode and it occurred to me: she always had that unusual pattern on her wings. She always has been a "white crow" among her so called sisters.

I guess exorcists were supposed to have some kind of balance in their nature – the balance between being bloodthirsty warriors, ready to sacrifice themselves in order to protect Heaven, and being creatures of light – the same as ordinary (normal) angels, kind, loyal, merciful. The palette of their wings represent this balance. White (kindness) is for Heaven and it's citizens, black (fierceness) is for Hell and sinners.

The fact that Vaggie had less black colour on her feathers definitely means something. Maybe she had "bug" in her "natural program" when she was created, which made her less cruel and more kindhearted, soft. Maybe she had her doubts about extermination and it's ruthless methods a long time before Adam and Lute abandoned her in Hell. And those thoughts had changed the colours of her wings (something tells me angels can change shades of their feathers based on their strong emotions — even though Vaggie's grey wings demonstrate the symbolism on the first place, it can also be the result of her complicated feelings).

As for Lute and her relationship with Vaggie, there might be something beside rivalry. What if Lute had noticed that Vaggie was different and was acting strange? Just to be clear: I can't fully believe Lute was simply jealous — these two were not the only one who Adam saw as his "top girls", best warriors. The exorcist Carmila has killed during the last Extermination possibly was another high-rank angel (according to her armour), so there must be a whole group of such strong angelic ladies, not just Vaggie and Lute (plus Lieutenant wanted revenge (!) for that killed high-rank fellow. Doesn't seem to me like a jealousy at all.)

It's rather Lute's beliefs that caused her to hate another angel. She appears like a very ideological person, who draws conclusions on the basis of her worldview. a/n: I didn't know how to title this, so I'm just rolling with it. 👍🏻

Chan will want to take things cautiously. He would always put your needs before his and if that means not telling anyone he is dating you, then so be it. He would totally ask if it's ok if he tells anyone and if you tell him no, he will respect that. If you are comfortable with people knowing then Chan would only tell the boys. He would prolong telling the media and Stay just because he knows how hard it can be being in the spotlight. Plus he would never want to willingly subject you to all the hate and shade some people throw their way. He wants only the best for you and your guy's relationship. Because this man is absolutely in love with you and never wants to lose you.

Minho would definitely put off telling people about your relationship only because he wants you all to himself. He doesn't necessarily want the media knowing so he will fight tooth and nail, however long it takes, just for your relationship to be private. He just feels like this is the one thing he is allowed to keep to himself. He definitely told the members once you were okay with it because he loves them and he loves you. He wants the people he loves most to be friends so that way he can rant and rave about his wonderful partner. He literally can’t shut up when your name comes up in conversation. Heart eyes and lovesick smile 100%. He doesn’t care if anyone teases him, he is just so in love with you.

Changbin would be like Minho to some degree. He would want to tell the members right away only for the simple fact that he wants them to know how amazing you are. Literally will talk anyone's ear off about how much he loves you. He would like to keep the relationship private from the media and Stay just because he knows they can be ruthless sometimes and he wants to protect you from that for as long as possible. He would ask once if you were ready to publicize your relationship and if you told him no he would wait for you to come to him. He definitely doesn't want to rush it. He has chosen you to be his one and only and he will stick beside you no matter what.

Hyunjin would tell the members right away, even before you two officially start dating. I just feel like he is very open with them. He wants to have an outlet to gush about his partner so for sure the first ones to hear about you were the rest of 00’ line. He would just be so proud to show you off to anyone who asks (and to who doesn't ask). This boy doesn’t let Stay know until he wants to. Hear me out, poor baby had it ruff in the past, going on hiatus. So because of this, I feel like he takes extra care not to accidentally blab about you on live. Even if he really wants to, he just doesn’t want to go through that again. He also loves you too much to lose you.

Jisung would 100% tell all the members the moment you start dating. It was never going to be a secret from them. I feel like when he is in love with someone he would just end up linking everything he does or sees with his partner. They're making a love song and Jisung automatically thinks of you. He sees something cute at a shop, he has already bought all the variations for you. Since he is so open with the members it was only a matter of time before he let it slip to Stay. He would be live and one of the boys would mention your favorite show or something similar and Jisung would automatically be like “Oh yeah me and (Name) just finished rewatching it.” His whole life flashes before his eyes right then and there.

Felix is just like Jisung. He is so in love with you that he just has to tell the members. It’s a necessity rather than a want. Every other word out of his mouth is your name, and he is constantly texting you and calling. He is so sweet and caring he just wants to make sure you know he loves you, since it's hard to see each other sometimes due to his tight schedule. On a live someone asks where he got a piece of clothing or jewelry and without missing a beat he would go, “(Name) got it for me, their so cute.” Felix panic ends the live, and immediately texts you a string of apologies. Only after you guys talk does he do damage control with the company and Stay.

Seungmin’s personal life is an enigma and he will make sure it stays that way. He is determined to keep you to himself and out of the public eye. He is just someone who doesn’t want all of his life publicized, and rightfully so. Sometimes he does feel bad when you guys can’t go on regular dates or post about each other, but you reassure him that you are fine with the way things are. He is so sweet too. His family knows about you but he just never got around to telling the members. They find out when you show up at the dorm with like a pair of Seungmin’s shoes or something. They're like “WTF YOU’RE HIS WHAT NOW!?” Stay definitely doesn’t find out until you guys are like married or something.

Jeongin is also cautious. He tells the members only after maybe a month or two into the relationship when he is certain that it's serious. He would want someone to give him advice because I feel like he would be scared to mess anything up. He isn’t one for voicing it but you could just tell that he is so in love. He buys things that remind him of you and treats you so kindly, soft baby. He wouldn’t tell Stay right away either but he would want to tell them at some point in your relationship. He loves you and he loves Stay so he would want to share you with them and them with you. He is just so sweet it melts your heart, you couldn’t possibly deny him anything.

things i noticed/thoughts about most recent rewatches of dps (plus laserdisk deleted scenes):

whenever theres a group scene i've started watching the characters that the story isn't focusing on to see what they do and i've been having a fun time with that. pitts and cameron specifically seem to almost always be doing something interesting in the background.

hopkins!!!! my favorite minor character who somehow got character development despite having like 2 lines!!!! the last guy to stand on the desk but he did it!!!

sometimes i do like to think about what the rest of the students thought about the dead poets society, esp in alternate timeline neil lives dps keeps meeting universe. like yeah theres this guy in their class whose one of the most credited students in the school and we think he maybe started a cult. idk though. but that group runs out into the woods every few days to do god knows what and one of them keeps talking about "dead poets honor" whatever that means and holy shit welton star student neil perry started a cult.

i watched the movie with headphones. and maybe it's because ive seen this movie Far too many times and mabe i'm listening too hard but it was Really obvious sometimes when audio was added in post production. llke in the sweaty toothed madman scene when you can hear laughing and to be fair the camera is behind their heads. but it does Not look like anyone's laughing. my favorite is at the end of the phone call to chris scene where knox is like i'm gonna seize the day!! and runs up the stairs and the poets are cheering him on and neil is sort of yelling "carpe!!!!" and i could be wrong but i'm like 75% certain that the person singing is Also rsl so now neil is just speaking two times at once somehow. anyways it didn't ruin the experience for me or anything it was maybe just a little bit funny to notice but very sorry if this did ruin anyone's viewing.

people talk a lot about how rsl and ethan hawke really made their characters what they are but i have to add dylan kussman to that list. I get the impression that older versions of the movie didn't really give as much depth to cameron and watching dylan kussmans performance is like. he Knew who his character was so fucking well and it shows!! like the deleted scene of them getting clubs assigned. like i could tell So Much about cameron from that scene

for how little she actually appeared, there is an emphasis put on the fact that neil's mom smokes pretty frequently. and i think that's interesting considering neil is one of two poets shown actively smoking. neil's mom doesn't appear for very long in the movie but during that time it definitely seems like the movie is intentionally making parallels between the two, particularly in the last argument with neil's father. neil and his mother are both sitting for almost the whole time, which contrasts with his father who is standing. they are both almost powerless in this scene. they stand up at almost the same time. anyways there's a couple different possibilities for what this could mean? that i've though of? 1. to show that neil's mother is in a similar situation to the one neil is in in regards to neil's father and 2. maybe a stretch here but the theory that neil inherited his mental illness at least partially from his mother. i'm pretty sure 1 was fully intentional on the directors part, not entirely sure about 2 though

unmanned flying desket scene: it's probably cause he and ethan wrote the scene themselves but the way rsl talks in this scene feels more like the way he talks in general than the rest of the script. like briefly neil perry is talking in rsl's voice. one of my absolute favorite scenes though the sarcastic dialogue is so good.

✧ coming behind you to hug you while you do dishes and then offering to dry them after you wash them 🫶🏼 (i think this is peak love idc idc)
