I'm tempted to say that I'm not a poetry fan, but that wouldn't be entirely true. What I'm not a fan of is SERIOUS poetry. Adult poetry. Ponderous poetry. What I loooove is what poetry becomes in the hands of some with a silly sensibility, a way with words, and an audience of kids. Alice Schertle's "Button Up!: Wrinkled Rhymes" (2009) is a lesser-known but wonderful example of this. 👟👟👟 A book of clever, funny poems about clothing, written from the clothes' point of view, and illustrated in charming detail by Petra Mathers, this is a fun exploration of familiar objects from new perspectives. I love poetry for short storytimes and for prompting conversation with young kids. This is a great one to add to your library list! ⚫ ⚫ ⚫ #noodlenutsclassickidlit #noodlenutskidsbooks #buttonupwrinkledrhymes #buttonup #wrinkledrhymes #aliceschertle #petramathers #poetry #poemsforkids #poetryforkids #poetrybooksforkids #childrenspoems #childrenspoetry #readpoetrytoyourkids #ilovereading #booknerd #fortheloveofpoetry #booksbooksbooks #readaloudrevival #readingwithkids #childrensliteracy #kidsbookshelf #childrensbookart #teachersunite #kidsbookreview #booksinverse #literacyskills #schoollibrarian #schoollibrary #kindergartenliteracy https://www.instagram.com/p/B3ksymcnh3o/?igshid=fje5veoewfel

Eye published a @pickuppoettree coloring book and today the @nackidscan had a big back to school drive event and the children there had their own “Pick-Up Poet Tree Coloring Book” station. The books went fast and the children who had a book ripped pages out so that other children can color some metaphors and similes too.. it was beautiful. Eye am grateful for Jessica who is photobombing me in the back for inviting me to participate in this wonderful event. Not only did the children get to color, @nackidscan provided them with book bags, school supplies, books to read and more. Eye am grateful for @psycheriver for illustrating the coloring book. Oh and if you want a coloring book for a child in your life, HMU. Something different today. Something to inspire or just make them giggle! Kids can and do love poetry - it’s not just for school or adults. Words can be as beautiful as pictures, so why not give this gorgeous book from Matthew the Horse a go (and no, he’s not an actual horse!). . #poetrybooksforkids #makethemlaugh #kidsbooks #tellingtalesshop #childrensbooks #kidsbookstagram #kidsbookswelove #shoplocal #newin #beautifulwords #funnybooks #bookstomakeyoulaugh (at Andrews Road Hackney)

Did you know that April is #PoetryMonth? 🖊 Introducing kids to poetry can sometimes be tricky. You want to find something that speaks to them, grabs their interest, and entertains them. 📚 "Thinker: My Puppy Poet and Me" is a fun and engaging way to get kids interested in poems. 🐶 This book by Eloise Greenfield follows a young boy poet named Jace and his puppy Thinker - who happens to be a poet as well. They love to create poetry together, but Thinker isn't allowed to go to school with Jace. When Pet Day comes, he is finally able to join his friend at school, but he can't recite his poetry. 🏫 This adorable story about a boy and his dog uses lots of different styles of poetry to touch on important ideas - such as the fear of being perceived as different, and the joy of being true to oneself. The collage illustrations by @iamehsanabdollahi are beautiful and striking, with their bright colors and sharp textures. Head over to my Amazon shop (affiliate link in bio) to learn more about this beautiful book, and add it to your poetry collection!
