Deziree had finally been allocated a room in the hotel, after waiting a ridiculous amount of time. She couldn’t believe the shocking service, and she was losing out on some serious beauty sleep because someone (see Anastasia) wasn’t letting her switch the lights off. As a solution (or rather a distraction) she found herself sauntering the lobby again, hoping for at the very least in interesting conversation or someone to put her out of her misery and offer her a massage or something. 

It was luck that she spotted Minnie entering the building, and before she could get anywhere else she infiltrated her path and stood directly in front of her. Deziree didn’t consider Minnie to be much of a friend, actually she found her pretty insufferable, but she did have a much coveted status in town and Deziree was an opportunist. “Hey, Mins! Just the person I wanted to see. Please tell me you have an update. I’m having a disaster of a hair moment and I need my tongs.”

Christmas wasn’t Woody’s favourite time of year. If it wasn’t for Jessie he probably wouldn’t celebrate it at all. It was a time of year that didn’t hold great memories for him. But here he was wandering around the stores to get his Christmas shopping done for Jessie and a few others.

He felt lost, he didn’t know what on earth to get Jessie. In his defense he new he could buy her a bar of chocolate and she’d be happy but he still wanted to make an effort. She was his sister and she deserved a great gift - even if she did annoy the life out of him. Woody made his way through the aisles of the current store he was in, picking up additional items he needed all while keeping an eye out for something for his sister.

Rachel was trying her best to embrace the whole Halloween vibe, despite still not understanding it after a good two or three years of exposure to it. She had found herself a bench near some nice looking market stalls, a little sketchbook on her lap and some coloured pencils in her hands. She hadn’t started anything yet though, as every time Rachel readied her pencil someone would stand directly in front of her inspiration.

Of course, Rachel was too polite to say anything, but it didn’t stop her sighing when it happened for the third time. Finally, she found the slightest bit of courage, and called out to the person in her way. “Uh, excuse me, Miss?”

“This is a simple drink inspired by the Studio Ghibli film, Ponyo. It’s just cinnamon, milk, honey, and a dash of vanilla served warm. But, I thought it would compliment the cake. It’s Apple Cider Cake with Brown Sugar Buttercream Frosting. I used Redwood’s famous local cider, so you must have a bite.”

Minnie implored, as she carefully handed Deziree a pink paisley china plate with a generous slice of cake upon it, along with a fork. The brunette wasn’t ashamed to admit that she often tried to recreate food and beverages that she saw in animated films. Really, Studio Ghibli had no busy making animated food look so delicious. It had led to much research and numerous kitchen experiments.

And offering hot chocolate would be too rich combined with the cake would be too rich. Apple cider, too similar and the effect would be a wash. Minnie had decided that plain milk wouldn’t have that certain something. Hence her thrown together concoction. If her guest didn’t like it, Minnie would offer some warm spiced chai latte as a substitute.

It was after all, a perfect fall evening to be seated on the front porch, in the bench that sported plush pillows. Even, Minnie’s tuxedo cat was lazily sprawled out on the porch steps, purring away as the sun streamed through the nearby trees, illuminated their fall colors. While, Minnie’s garden wasn’t as impressive as it was in the spring, the brunette had tried to spruce it up with fall flora, and a smiley scarecrow, situated in-between some artfully placed gourds and miniature hay bays.  

Deziree, admittedly, wasn’t all that interested in where Minnie’s bright recipe idea had come from. In fact, she thought Minnie was way too perky for her own good, and she could do with being knocked down a few pegs. Of course, that wasn’t to say she didn’t think of her as a sort-of-friend, otherwise she wouldn’t be sitting here on her porch drinking this weird-ass concoction. Initially, Deziree had wiggled her way into Minnie’s life for the whole status thing. Her mom was always pushing her and Anastasia to keep growing their social circles, especially where wealth and legacy were concerned, and Minnie seemed like an easy (and very well desired) target.

Despite their opposing attitudes, she had sort of grown on her, and Deziree really could do with a bit of company given what was currently going on in her life.

She took the mug from Minnie, giving it a sniff and a close inspection. “I have no idea what a Ponyo is but-- sure, sounds totally inspiring.” Deziree took a hesitant first sip, followed by a more confident second. She took the plate in turn and rested it on her lap. “You know, I think you have way too much free time on your hands. What does the Mayor even have you do up there in his office? Recipe blog writing?”
