I did a little POTO eBay retail therapy after Broadway closed and finally got around to displaying it…a lobby poster of Peter Karrie from Canada! 😍😍😍
Tumblr media
Did I spend more than twice on shipping than on the poster itself? Yes. Do I regret it? NEVER.

Behind the Mask - The Making of Toronto's Phantom of the Opera [AI Upscale]
Documentary by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, ca. 1989
An in-depth look at the making of the Original Canadian production of The Phantom of the Opera by the CBC. Featuring interviews with the cast, production crew, and creative team behind the production. Detailing the rehearsal process, the restoration of the legendary Pantages, and the work that goes into bringing the award winning mega musical to the Toronto stage. It also includes the promotional music video for the title track, featuring stars Rebecca Caine and Colm Wilkinson and shot on location on stage at the Pantages.
This newly enhanced version was taken from our original VHS to DVD transfer. It was then run through Topaz Video AI v3.1.11 using the "Deinterlace footage and Upscale to HD" preset. Enhancement was using the "Dione: TV 2x FPS" AI model, with "Add Noise" set to 3, and "Grain" amount set to 5 and size set to 2. While this may yield a slightly over-sharpened file, it was felt that this was the best approach for an asset that would then be compressed and uploaded to YouTube (and further compressed).
Presented for archival and educational purposes only.

2. Kiss!
3. C: Please, Angel! please!
    P: Nop
4. Epic scene!
  a) Seems that Raoul wasn't suffering so much
  b) Christine scared to believe that Raoul has died.

6. Tender hands
7. No, Christine! Wait!

In another case of I-didn’t-like-it-the-first-time-through-but-I’ve-made-a-complete-180: actually, Origin is bangin’.
I like the music and how the program utilizes the music! It adds to the elements and the elements add to it!
This may be the first time I really appreciated how organic Yuzu’s jumps and spins feel. He doesn’t really telegraph them; they naturally flow from the music and steps before.
Ugh. So good.

The opera house has fallen on hard times and it is mostly in due part to the owners, young brothers Alfred and Matthew. After the death of their mother who previous owned it, it fell to them, but little did they know how difficult it would be to keep it open.
With Alfred having wild and crazy ideas, its a wonder Matthew has any sanity left keeping up with his brother’s wild antics!

I was skeptical about Sales/Wamsteeker doing POTO, but I think it actually suits them. It gives them big emotions to perform which is probably more suitable than something lyrical.
My favorite program from these early comps has still been the Movement one from H/L. Hopefully they’ll get some good competition spots to show it off.
I agree it overall fits them, their niche is definitely semi-passionate and dramatic pieces.
With you about H/L having the absolute best program in the event. The Pink Panther FD was kind of fun, and Emmy's new Pink Floyd program was ok too. S/F new FD is a bit of a change for them which I like, but they are just unable to convincingly interpret it (him especially) and them having like 5 different transitions that include some kind of sliding movement annoys me tbh because it's just too repetitive. And I'm legit beyond offended by the plagiarized version of S/D's clown FD.
I wish Skate Canada had a TBD spot for dance that they could have given to H/L, I'm afraid we won't be seeing them much.
