✧ I want to start working on my art style more, so I was inspired (by seeing PPG trending, unfortunately for bad reasons...) to redraw this scene from the Powerpuff Girls! ✧

Did some more screenshot redraws! I will eventually get to making some original stuff but I just wanted to share these first since I’m pretty proud of how they turned out. (The shading was a force of habit, it wasn’t really necessary but I did it anyway)

I can't sleep because i am lowkey nervous about tomorrow but also I just want to show yall basically my art progress (in terms of rendering) in the spam of 1 year contracting Utonium brainrot hhhh it's so surreal to see how different both of them looked like ahaha

I cAN TOTALLY EXPLAIN THE FIRST 2 PICS. The first one is exactly from a year ago when my brainrot just started and I was like "well fuck I guess I have a new f/o now". If you ever see or feel familiar about the first art even though you prooooobably never see it,

its because it was an original picture for this redraw a few months AFTER that pic

Also if you notice, the art style for that one is totally different from others and shhh the reason it was like that is because initially I want to draw them in my actual artstyle around that time and I dont want it to follow the same artstyle like in the show. My friend said Utonium kinda reminds them of that guy from clo.udy wi th a ch.ance of meatb.alls and im like "oH SHITTT". There's more drawings of Utonium pre-brainrot era with this kind of artstyle in my folder but I don't think the world is ready for that yet lol

Anyway as I progresses to the 2nd pic, I changed my mind and was like "wait I actually WANT them to look like they're in PPG and not my own artstyle" so I slowly draw both of them to look more like the ppg style if you understand what I mean??? Althoughhhh in the 2nd pic I still want him to look a bit like my own style with my own touch and despite how much I don't like the reboot, I actually like his gray hair on his sideburns??? So if yall remember that phase and followed me from way way in the early days of this blog, I used to draw Utonium with those streaks before I gradually stopped doing that because of.... actually idk why I stopped??? I should totally add the grays back because I love it actually lol but anywayyyyyy the 2nd pic was also around july too me think? So there's probably like a few weeks gap between the actual totally real not clickbait picture of Chloe and Utonium 'together'.

That was how my render looked like for a few months until november (the 3rd pic).

So in the 3rd pic, I discovered this very magical spectacular magnificent function on CSP called t E xt U r e and holy fuck, let me tell you, I feel like I am a changed person. I was never the cringe person with mediocre render like I was, this legit marked a cultural shift in me, I just feel like I've been blessed by god himself. I spammed the fUCK OUTTA THOSE TEXTURES like it was MY BUSINESS. i pAID CSP FOR FULL PRICE I HAVE EVERY RIGHT TO USE IT TO ITS FULL CAPABILITIES AND SQUEEZE IT OUT OF ALL IT'S WORTH. Although I must say, my render time after that significantly increases. By standard I used to render around 3 hours? Now this bitch took 6 fuckin hours to completely. It wasn't a daijobu era ngl 😔😔😔

And holy fuck do I have a fuckin field day with it. You think I was a changed man back then? I have ascended, I am now r e b o r n. My friends feared my, my peers stared at me, my teachers are baffled by the amount of brainrot I drew at that time. How am I real?

Okay jk but hhh anyway for my current render; it's kinda more like an accidental discovery? I wanted to look for ways to cut render time because it was really tiring for me to render with a fuckton of texture layers and I also wanted to emulate my fav artist's render style soooo bad (it was luoman if anyone asked) and I kinda figured out how they did it? I mean they still do it better but like I was really inspired to be like them and lemme tell you, I cried for 3 days 3 nights unpaid vacation time when I figured it out. I wasn't kidding when I say I feel like I am a new person. I am quite pessimistic tbh, I'm insecure about my art but like this is the first time in like 3 years ever I feel like I did a major progress and I feel really good.

Why did I made this post? I actually dont feel good about myself, maybe because I am nervous about my test tomorrow and I just need a quick mood boost from myself. I don't believe I did any progress. But now, after typing all of my thoughts at 3 am, after I just put art phases of my braunrot together, kinda believe I actually did progress and I am proud of myself ;w;

Just finished this short animation gif last night for 6 days as a surprise gift/plug-in for @ashadowstreak​ for completing the entire review of the Powerpuff Girls 2016 reboot for 5 years from Season 1-3 to comics, game apps, and Lego Dimensions.

It's a redraw of my old animation back in the end of Season 1 in 2017 in his part 2 of his top 5 best and worst of it.

I was on a bit of a PowerPuff Girls kick during the last third of hiatus--spurred on by a certain virtual band and resulting in the revisit to an older project--and thought doing a scene redraw would be fun.

At the time I was working on this, my laptop screen was failing and an icky multicolored field would completely take over the display if there wasn’t anything keeping pressure on it. And because the field manifested with vertical lines, those particle effects in the original screenshot’s background made me freak out every few minutes because they have a similar appearance. Luckily the screen is fixed now but it’s still one of many poor design choices going on in the reboot.

One criticism about PPG 2016 is that, while the Powerpuff Girls look the same as they did in the original, the background characters make their designs stick out like a sore thumb. This criticism was shown in an interview with Derek Charm, which you can read here.

Charm: Luckily, the Girls look pretty much the same, just thinner lines. The hardest thing to figure out was the background characters, before it was very Hanna-Barbera/UPA but now it’s a little more of a modern CN house style. I finally got it down by issue four, but that’s my last issue, so…

Lolwhatburger on Twitter has done a series of redraws of various PPG 2016 characters, making them fit in more with the art style of the original. Here’s Sapna Nehru, here’s Pack Rat, and, my personal favorite because the artist redrew the best possible frame that exists of him, here’s Jared Shapiro. It’s all very nice, and it’s a good look of what could have been or possibly even what could be.

Martosi231234 asked me a question: what if they decided to go the other way around and tried to cram the Powerpuff Girls into the style of the background characters instead? I decided to make a quick doodle, and martosi231234 even colorized it for me so it looks slightly nicer.

I’ll admit that I really rushed Blossom there. But hey, it’s supposed to be PPG 2016 fanart; Blossom always gets the short end of the stick in the reboot.

If they did this, they couldn’t have that episode where the other students made fun of them for looking like “baby faces”. That episode was also bad, so it’s no big loss.

sooo... i watched that power of four special, even though i don’t think the ppg reboot is worth the time of day. but i was curious about bliss. the special itself was ... ambitious, i suppose you could say. very obviously just a promotional cashgrab, but had some good ideas that were bogged down by bad execution.

the same could be said for bliss as a character, too. after all, an older powerpuff girl, a black powerpuff girl ... possible inspiration for the powerpuff girls creation! those are interesting concepts to explore! maybe not a great idea for those concepts to all be packed into one character ... and her flaws were interesting, if awkwardly executed. i did find myself somewhat attached to her, despite it all.

but the episode and her character were bogged down by clumsy writing that didn’t care about any lore established in the original series, or the integrity of any character outside of bliss - whether the others were in character didn’t matter.

so i’ll take matters into my own hands. redesigning her so she doesn’t look so out of place in contrast to the other powerpuffs, and rewriting her story.

first of all - changing bliss’s colors. give her a natural haircolor so she doesn’t stand out so much in a bad way, and change the purple dress. since purple already belongs to bunny. either the teal from her hair in the original design, or the silver of the “perfect little girl” from whoopass stew, couldn’t decide which.

second - redraw her proportions. i figured, since bliss is a teenager, she’d look something like the teenage powerpuff girls from that one episode. but those teenage powerpuff girls didn’t look too great, did they? so the proportions for this re-imagining were a little more inspired by these older powerpuff designs. but maybe a little less curvy, and a lot more reasonable for a 16-ish yr old girl.

third - the original backstory definitely needs reworking to be believable and yet still maintain her intended character. so first of all - we know the powerpuff girls were technically planned. utonium was only planning for one perfect little girl instead of three, and the chemical x and their resulting power were an accident. but utonium definitely intended to create them, and knew exactly the formula to create at least one perfect little girl. 

but the question becomes - how would he know the specific formula if there’ve been no prior attempts? in the powerpuff girls movie, the girls were his first attempt as i recall. and what would inspire him to create the perfect little girl? there was a time travel episode that explained that they were exactly what he hoped his kids would turn out to be like, but it never clarifies what inspired him.

this is where bliss comes in. perhaps cut out utoniums rivalry with newtronium and her perfect little boy, and instead go in a different direction altogether.

lets say utonium used to be the assistant or partner to another scientist years ago, perhaps back in college, let’s call him astrotine for convenience. for whatever reason the two were experimenting with sugar, spice, and everything nice. this results in the creation of bliss, whom the two dubbed the perfect little girl. and in terms of appearance, bliss took after astrotine. the two would care for bliss together for a while, and as far as bliss was concerned she had two dads.

(maybe bliss’s concoction had an intentional drop of chemical x? maybe utonium had chemical x so close to the concoction because he did plan on using it at some point before mojo’s interference causing a premature and excessive dosage? but there was no chemical w, or any other non-x chemicals. )

but then the time came for utonium and astrotine to go their separate ways, and astrotine took custody of bliss. though utonium enjoyed being a father figure to bliss, he assumed that he couldn’t take the title of bliss’s father. or “other father” as the case may be. it seemed that she was simply astrotines daughter, not his.

but this would inspire him to create his own daughter later on, and would serve to  explain how he knew specifically what ingredients to use and how to measure them to create the - or a - perfect little girl. but as we all know, things didn’t go quite as planned, all for the better you could say. and instead of one perfect little girl, utonium got three. and these three would take after him.

meanwhile as bliss grows older, and the stress of being known as "the perfect little girl" combined with Puberty is getting to her. she’s becoming emotionally unstable and developing previously unseen telekinetic powers. astrotine isn't a bad person, but just doesn't understand what she's going through. so the two of them re-enter utoniums life, just seeking help and answers for what's going on.

and then HIM shows up, as himself instead of having been a tiny shapeshifting elephant living with bliss for most of her life, and manipulates her because none of them understand what she’s feeling. things continue mostly the same as they do in the show. but in the end, utonium and astrotine agree that theyre Both bliss’s dads and the power of love - the powerpuff girls’ love for their older half-sister and the love her fathers have for her - saves her and saves the day. 

and instead of leaving to push saturn back in place - either both bliss and astrotine stay, with the powerpuff girls and bliss having two dads... or more accurate to the actual ending, the two just go home, to another town, finally understanding each other. and bliss, with a new sense of purpose and with control of her powers, is going to protect her town the same way her little half-sisters protect their town. or something along the lines of that i guess. idk.

fourth - i admittedly had no idea what the fuck to do for a design for astrotine for this rewritten backstory. wanted to be sorta parallel to utonium without being exactly the same (like how newtronium is literally utonium with tits.) while having features found in bliss as well. but other than that had no clue what direction to take that! thought an argyle sweater with ppg colors would be cute, though.
