These added to the 90th birthdays I’d captured a few months earlier. Perhaps…

Need a Photographer for a Mountaintop Wedding ?
Need a Photographer for a Mountaintop Wedding ?
Have a Mountaintop wedding in mind? I have lived year-round in the Hunter Mountain area for years and try to never take its majesty for granted. Whether driving to a job, a gig or the grocery store I have always paused for mental a moment to take in the scenic beauty of this place. It is no wonder so many choose the mountaintop for their outdoor weddings. It’s incredible here. From the blue…

Zadock Pratt’s tannery, the largest of several in the Catskills, consumed almost 500,000 hemlock trees during its two decades of operation. Workers chopped down trees and removed the bark, which was the source of tannins used in the production of leather. Pratt closed the business in 1845, having virtually exhausted the local supply of hemlocks.
These images are part of the story of ecological change chronicled in our new exhibition Hudson Rising, on view through August 4, 2019.
“Peeling, and piling hemlock bark, for Prattsville Tannery,” from Biography of Zadock Pratt. circa 1852. New-York Historical Society.

Handcolored picture postcard of Main Street in Prattsville, New York, circa 1905.  The town is named after Zadock Pratt (1790-1871), a prominent local who established the largest tannery in the world at the time.  The town was established to provide housing for the necessary labor force.  Pratt later went into politics and was a congressman.
Before entering the town from the east along NY Route 23, Pratt Rock is a unique park and picnic on a hillside opposite Schoharie Creek, worth the time it takes to wander around in.  It commemorates Pratt with a bevy of bas-relief stone carvings and a historical display.  While I can’t corroborate it online, Pratt was instrumental in getting the White House rebuilt after it was burned in the War of 1812.  This unsubstantiated tidbit was (as I recall) on the historical display at Pratt Rock.

Never Say I Love You (Never Say Series Book 1)
Never Say I Love You (Never Say Series Book 1)
A steamy small town romance about a down on her luck actress and a wounded veteran. They say there’s no place like home. For Ashley Ann Scobel, there’s no place as terrible as home. When she left Prattsville at seventeen, she swore she’d seen the last of the dusty Texas town. Home sweet home is the last place she wants to be, but with her acting career sputtering to a stop and bills piling up,…
