ASUU members received their rightful salary in October – FG
Tumblr media
The Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu
The Federal Government has said members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU received their rightful salary in October, which was paid in pro-rata basis.
The Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu, stated this while briefing correspondents at the end of the Federal Executive Council, FEC, meeting presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The Federal Government also denied the allegation that it has indirectly made Nigerian lecturers causual workers by paying them half salary in October, saying that nobody can make them casual staff.
Recall that the, called off the eight month strike it embarked on February 14 this year on October 14 and was paid the October salary based on the number of days they worked.
ASUU called off the strike as a result of the judgment by the National Industrial Court of Nigeria, NICN, that ordered the union to go back to work before it could entartain its pending case.
Angered by the payment of half salary, ASUU has embarked on protest in different universities to express their dissatisfaction with the government decision not to pay them full in October.
But despite protestations from ASUU over pro-rata October salary payment, the federal government on Wednesday insisted that the lecturers were paid what was due them
The government also insisted that the lecturers would not be paid for work not done.
Responding to the allegation made by the President of ASUU, Professor Emmanuel Osodoke, suggesting that paying the lecturers on pro-rata basis was a ploy to make them casual workers, the Minister remarked that government has no such plan.
“Nobody can make University lecturers casual workers,” he said.
When told that the lecturers were threatening a one-day action to protest government’s action, Adamu said he was not aware.
He was also mum when asked to comment on the agreement the union entered into with government.
However, a source in the Ministry of Education has debunked claims in some quarters that the Federal Government entered into an agreement with ASUU.
The source said, “I do know that the government entered into agreement with the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, SSANU, the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions, NASU, and the National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT), before they suspended their strike, but I am not sure that there was an agreement with ASUU.
“Remember that ASUU only called off the eight months strike because of the court judgment.”

Release 2022 withheld salaries, SSANU urges FG
Tumblr media
The National President, Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, Mohammed Ibrahim has appealed to the Federal Government to release the withheld four months salaries of its members to help reduce the economic hardship on them. In 2022, two months after ASUU commenced a nationwide strike, both SSANU and the Non-Academic Staff of Educational and Associated Institutions also embarked on nationwide industrial action. The action was to protest the government’s failure to fulfil its promises to the workers. SSANU queried the rationale behind the government’s insistence on the ‘no work, no pay policy,’ saying that due process was followed before embarking on the strike that lasted four months. Till he left office, Buhari seized the payment of the workers. However, in October last year, President Bola Tinubu announced that his government would pay four months of the withheld salaries to members of ASUU, immediately raising concerns as to the fate of the members of the other unions. A few weeks ago, the Nigerian government began paying the academics, leaving out the non-academic staff. On February 13, 2024, SSANU and NASU unions wrote protest letters to the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, and the Minister of Education, Tahir Mamman over the exclusion of the non-teaching staff from the payment of outstanding four months’ salaries. However, on March 1 2024, the unions threatened to disrupt industrial peace in universities should the government fail to release the withheld salaries of members. Addressing a press conference on Monday, Ibrahim noted that the union’s patience was running out if the FG did not do the needful. He said, “Our patience is running out and we are meeting within the next seven days to make a final decision. “However, we said we should reach out to the FG through this medium so that in the end, no one will blame us for downing tools.” The president added that the poor economy was taking a toll on its members and the four months’ salaries once released will help cushion its effects. “Clearly, with the current economic situation in the country, our members are finding things very difficult. After the strike and withholding of the salaries, we lost so many members as a result of their inability to meet up with medical checkups, sent out of their rented apartments, and our children sent out from schools due to non-payment of their fees, among others. “Once this money is given to our members, it would cushion the effect of the economy on our members and it would give some semblance of justice to every member of staff working in the universities. “We are using this medium to call on the Chief of Staff, Minister of finance, Accountant General of the Federation and all those that matter in this issue to see the reasons for releasing the four months’ salary of non-teaching staff (SSANU and NASU),” Ibrahim pleaded. He however threatened, “But anything short of that, we cannot guarantee the continuous work environment to function.” Read the full article

NO GREE FOR ANYBODY: AN OPEN LETTER TO PRESIDENT BOLA AHMED TINUBU
Tumblr media
By: Engr. Nego   Dear President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, I write to you as a concerned citizen, deeply troubled by the current state of our beloved country, Nigeria. The closure of our borders, a policy implemented during the Buhari regime, has caused significant hardship for our people. This hardship is not just an abstract concept, but a daily reality that manifests in various forms across the country. Many of our fellow Nigerians are suffering in silence, victims of political interests that do not seem to prioritize the welfare of the nation. The closure of our borders has exacerbated the hardship caused by the removal of fuel subsidies. This policy has disproportionately favored the political elite, while the majority of our people, the poor masses, are left to grapple with hunger, extreme hardship, and poverty. Our young people, the future of our nation, are so desperate to escape these harsh conditions that they are willing to risk their lives. Some have drowned in deep seas, others have been killed by security forces, and some have been consumed by wildlife. Out of frustration, many have turned to criminal activities, including internet fraud. The high cost of transportation, a direct result of these policies, has made it difficult to convey goods and services within the country. We need to create competition, especially in the refinery industry. Licenses should be issued to anyone who wishes to produce fuel. Those in the creeks should be reformed and taxed accordingly. The monopoly of the refinery industry should not be left to a few individuals for their selfish gains. Similarly, the cost of a bag of cement has skyrocketed, leading to an increase in house rents across our cities. This is a result of the monopoly of the cement industry by the high class and highly connected individuals. Licenses should be issued to anyone who can produce cement. We, as Nigerians, are watching. Just like other past administrations, your regime will come and go. Those of us who survive this man-made poverty, hardship, and hunger will tell the story of Nigeria, and your name will be mentioned. All political leaders should remember that their tenures will also pass, and posterity will judge them. We are aware that the poverty in our country is intentional. The hardship is man-made. The border closure, the high cost of house rent due to the monopoly of the cement industry, the high cost of transportation due to non-functional national or state transportation systems, and limited license issuance are all contributing factors. Corrupt representatives are not distributing allocations as lawfully given to them. Salaries and dues are not consistently paid to workers at the national, state, and local government levels. Grants and loans approved by the federal government are hijacked and diverted by administrators, and there is no national platform for individuals to report these injustices without revealing their identity. Ministers issue contracts to themselves, their family members, their wives, their children, their colleagues, and nothing happens.   AS A CONCERNED CITIZEN HERE IS MY ADVICE: Promote Transparency and Accountability: Encourage transparency in your government and continue to hold public officials accountable for their actions. Strengthen Anti-Corruption Laws: Strengthen existing anti-corruption laws and ensure they are enforced. This includes laws against embezzlement, bribery, nepotism, and court malpractices. Encourage Citizen Participation: Encourage citizens to participate in the democratic process. This includes voting, peaceful protests, and voicing opinions through various platforms. Establish Reporting Mechanisms: Establish safe and anonymous platforms for individuals to report corruption and other injustices. This can help protect whistleblowers and encourage more people to come forward. Promote Economic Policies that Benefit All: Advocate for economic policies that benefit all citizens, not just the elite. This includes policies that promote competition, reduce monopolies, and ensure fair distribution of resources. E.g. the social investments programs have so far not yielded tangible results, no visible impact on the society. Large number of participants, with insignificant number of beneficiaries. This includes the NGCARES, CCT, etc. Invest in Infrastructure: Invest in national and state transportation systems to reduce the high cost of transportation. This can also stimulate economic growth and create jobs. Promote Fair Trade Practices: Reopen borders under fair trade practices. This can help stimulate the economy and reduce the hardship caused by the border closure. In conclusion, reopening our borders will go a long way in restoring Nigeria to her past glory. It will renew hope for the poor for the first time in many years. If not, the so-called renewed hope is only for you and your cabinet. Nigerians have been in a precarious situation since 2015, and nothing good has happened to the country. TO MY FELLOW NIGERIAN YOUTHS: Remember, change often starts at the grassroots level. As youths, we have the power to demand better from our leaders and to hold them accountable for their actions. It’s our responsibility to stay informed, ask tough questions, and demand answers. Together, we can work towards a better Nigeria.   In 2012, it was estimated that Nigeria had lost over $400 billion to corruption since its independence, how many are we in this country?   NIGERIA IS STILL JAGAJAGA, WE NEVER SEE ANY CHANGE   #nogreeforanybody   Yours sincerely,   Nego Ojobo National Coordinator, Active Nigerian Youths For Action   About Us: We are a pressure group made up of patriotic Nigerian youths with network presence in almost every Local Government in the country.   Our Mission: To put the government and leadership at different levels on their toes towards better life for the Nigerian masses.   Our Vision: A great nation that can pride itself as the giant of Africa, devoid of bad governance, injustice, favoritism, tribal and ethnic sentiments, an egalitarian society that boasts of a level playing ground and equality for everyone.     Follow Us: National WhatsApp Group: https://chat.whatsapp.com/BWoDLnaV8G2KO1QV1BnVBF   Facebook Page: https://www.facebook.com/actionandactive/   Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/youthsforaction     Follow Me:   https://www.twitter.com/NegoEngr   https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?viewas=100000686899395&id=100063764717056   Please share and together, let’s fix Nigeria Read the full article

By • Olalekan Fagbade JUST IN: Labour to negotiate Minimum wage ‘commensurate with cost of living’ in Nigeria The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) is looking forward to negotiating a national minimum wage that will be “commensurate with the prevailing cost of living”, Labour leader Joe Ajaero has said. Ajaero said the Congress will be open to the establishment of a living wage that covered “the cost of living and make allowance for some savings by the workers.” The NLC president spoke yesterday at the opening of the 2023 harmattan school in Abuja, with the theme: “Building Trade Union skills for Policy Engagement.” The national minimum wage signed into law in 2019 by former President Muhammadu Buhari is up for review next year. The organised Labour, governors and the organised private sector are expected to arrive at a new minimum wage to replace the N30,000 in place. Ajaero, who was represented by NLC Deputy President Benjamin Anthony, said: “It has become very necessary for governments at all levels to recognise that life and living conditions are exceedingly difficult, especially for working people in both the formal and informal sectors of the economy. “The removal of subsidy on petroleum products has further exacerbated the challenges faced by working people, unleashing severe pain and contributing to galloping inflation and increasing inequality and poverty. “We must reckon that a well-motivated and well-remunerated workforce has a positive impact on productivity and national development. “As we anticipate the commencement of negotiations for the national minimum wage in 2024, we seek the understanding of all stakeholders to ensure that we use this opportunity to arrive at a minimum wage commensurate with the prevailing cost of living. “The ultimate goal, though, is to establish a living wage that covers the cost of living and make allowance for some savings by the workers. “Since the adoption of the Structural Adjustment Programme (SAP) in the mid-1980s and subsequent wholesale adoption of neoliberal economy framework, there has been a sustained disruption of the social pillars of society through the pullback of public spending on the provision of social services. “These austerity measures have significantly impacted on the quality of life of workers, peasants and the poor, thus creating an urgent need for collaboration with broad segment of the society to form a formidable force for sustained policy engagement with the governments at all levels.” The NLC president said the only thing that can assuage the pains of its members was for the Imo State Government to address all Labour issues and return the “so-called ‘ghost workers’ to their jobs, pay all outstanding salaries and pensions and call back all victimised workers to their jobs.” He added: “In the face of adversity and brutality encountered while advocating for the rights of workers to earn their legitimate income and benefits, our resolve remains unwavering. “We are motivated to continue our efforts towards achieving decent work and improving working conditions in the formal and informal sectors of the economy. “The recent assault on workers and their leaders in Imo State poses a grave threat to freedom of association and collective bargaining as enshrined in Section 40 of the 1999 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended and the ILO Conventions 87 and 98 on Freedom of Association and Collective Bargaining, and should unequivocally be condemned by all people of goodwill. “The only thing that can assuage our pains is for the Imo State Government to address all Labour issues and return the so called ‘ghost workers’ to their jobs, pay all outstanding salaries and pensions and call back all victimised workers to their jobs.” The Director, International Labour Organisation (ILO), Country Office for Nigeria, Ghana, Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Liaison Office for ECOWAS, Vanessa Phala said trade unions remained “critical stakeholders
in promoting workers’ rights, improving working conditions, and advancing social and economic justice.” She said: “The world of work is undergoing rapid changes, driven by technological advances, climate change, globalisation, and shifting social and economic trends. These changes are affecting workers and trade unions, posing new challenges and opportunities for collective action and advocacy. “Trade unions remain critical stakeholders in promoting workers’ rights, improving working conditions, and advancing social and economic justice. “Against this context, there is no better time than now for a serious and strategic reflection on the role that organised Labour execute in policy engagement and dialogue.” She said the ILO would continue to place particular emphasis on “strengthening the institutional capacity of employers’ and workers’ organisations to develop forward-looking solutions to sustain and improve operations to reinforce their representative, leadership, and advocacy roles, while renewing membership strategies, service provision and delivery mechanisms, and enhancing policy advocacy and influence.”

Breaking: “He Has Barely 2 Weeks In Office’ – World Bank Asked To Halt Disbursement Of $800m Loan To Buhari Administration
Monumental Looting and Membership of Secret Society.
There is a close relationship between monumental looting of the treasury, and membership of secret society. A normal human being, who has not sold himself to the devils, cannot use his exulted position to steal money running into billions or trillions and hiding them; while people under him are wallowing in abject poverty.
Nigerian wealth is concentrated on few hands. A lot of our rulers and political office holders, are fetish and very deep in occultism. They have mortgaged their souls to the devils, in exchange for riches and fake powers. The devils they serve give them compelling instructions, on how to steal and ruin establishments under their care; as well as make life miserable for people they supposed to be taking care of.
You steal billions of dollars of allocation money or generated revenue, and bank them in coded accounts abroad. Meanwhile, you owe your workers and pensioners for years. They dare not voice their grievances; else you will sack them. You, your children and wife, are living ostentatious lives. You all fly in private jets and do shopping abroad. Your conscience doesn’t prick you, that people around you are suffering terribly? Your initiation into the occult has hardened you, and thereby forget that God is a consuming fire.
So many political office holders in Nigeria, including Presidents and Governors, are religious hypocrites. They use religious affiliations, to win sympathy and votes of common people during election. But, they don’t have the fear of God in them. They only care about themselves and people around them, including sycophants and hangers-on. They and cabinet members, as well as retinue of aids, receive their monthly wages and multitude allowances regularly. But, refuse to pay the impoverished civil servants their peanuts.
How can you promptly pay a retiring judicial officer as much as 2.8 billion benefits; while you owe tens of thousands of pensioners for many years- some more than ten years? The monthly pay of some retired citizens is as low as 4000 naira. That huge amount you give to your fellow looter, can pay pension to up to 700,000 people. How do you sleep in the night, or pray to God?
In Nigeria, a governor who looted the state (sorry governed) for eight years, is entitled to huge monthly pensions, among other benefits till he dies. As well, former Nigerian Presidents and Military dictators are paid outrageous amount of money running into billions, to the detriment of the down-trodden masses. Nigerian legislators and other elected officers, are the highest paid anywhere in the world. Yet, the country is among the poorest in the world.
Because of the bad leaders we have had over the decades, the mentality of an average person in a top position, is to loot the place as much as possible, and run it down. He aims to be richer than the place: be it in government or company. He doesn’t care about legacy of good leadership when he leaves. He wants to use the money he has stolen, to contest and bribe his way to a bigger position. Take for instance, a Governor of a state. He is ready to steal hundreds of billions, worth more than the state annual budget during his tenure, to pursue his presidential ambition. It includes money to bribe delegates during party presidential primaries.
An aspirant can bribes some thousands of delegates with as much a 35000 dollars each. How does he get the money. How much is his salary? How will he recover the money, If he eventually wins the position? He hasn’t paid his workers. The bitter truth is that anybody who owns workers and pensioners for years, is fetish and belongs to secret cult. A law should be passed, making it a punishable offence by by years of mprisonment without option of fine, for those who owe workers or senior citizens for years.
Imagine the hundreds of moribund industries and factories. scattered all over the federation. They are owned by federal or State Governments. The persons they appointed to head those firms, ran them down due to high level of corruption, despite their high-sounding paper qualification. All those companies are shut down due to management problems. The ordinary workers are ready to do their jobs, if provided with the materials and tools to work with. One day, He will deal ruthlessly with you!
There is hardly anybody to show good example for other to follow. Corruption has been institutionalized in Nigeria. There is a law in the country that bans members of secret societies from contesting and occupying elective positions. The law should be followed strictly and expanded. There should be jail term and disqualifications of guilty candidates. Those already in office should be dismissed.
All those involved in ritual killings, and other diabolical activities during electioneering period, should be dealt it. They are so many. All those ’bouillon van and Ghana-Must-Go Bag’ politicians should be banned. Anybody who owes workers and pensioners shouldn’t be allowed to contest or seek re-election in any position. Why should you owe workers when you receive your own pay promptly? Nobody checks you. But there is God who reigns in the kingdoms of men.
Watch any political office holder, who carries out much propaganda about his achievements on office. He is a noise maker, who wants to cover up stealing going on in his office. He is an empty vessel that makes the greatest noise. He seeks and pays for unmerited awards and attention, against mounting opposition and critism. He spends a lot, to dish out lies through the media, that he has paid up all workers and senior citizens, when he hasn’t. He has only been paying his kinsmen, and in the service, and abandoning others.
We therefore call for a change of attitude. All the money you’re accumulating, you will die and leave them one day. Your bank accounts abroad, especially the coded ones will be lost to owners of the bank. You have a short life to live here. The purpose of being here is to serve God and humanity. Naked you come into this world naked you will go. But if you refuse to repent, remember God is a consuming fire. He will not allow the guilty to go unpunished.
You need to change before the wrath of God comes upon you. He said, “Behold, the hire of the labourers who have reaped down your fields, which is of you kept back by fraud, cries, and the cries of them which have reaped are entered into the ears of the Lord of sabaoth. You have lived in pleasure on the earth, and been wanton; you have nourished your hearts, as in a day of slaughter. You have condemned and killed the just; and he doth not resist you” – James 5: 4-6. https://powertrumpeter.org/blog1/monumental-corruption-and-bloodshed-in-nigeria

By • Olalekan Fagbade House of Representatives calls for auctioning of Police Barracks The House of Representatives has called for the auctioning of Police barracks across the country to tackle the deplorable living conditions of officers. The resolution followed the adoption of a motion of urgent public importance by Rep. Murphy Omoruyi (LP-Edo) during plenary in Abuja on Thursday. Leading the debate, Omoruyi said that the National Assembly passed the Police Reform Bill 2020, which was signed into law by former President, Muhammadu Buhari on Sept. 16, 2020. He said that one of the core issues of the Act was to address the living conditions of the nation’s gallant police officers. The lawmaker said the problem of adequate and dignified accommodation for police officers persists and had so far outlived all previous measures. He said “Between 2019 – 2022 more than N5 billion was spent by the Federal Government on renovation of barracks. Omoruyi said that all efforts made to rehabilitate the barracks failed. He said there had been robust national debate and calls for more community-oriented policing strategies. “Having officers of the Nigeria Police living amongst the general population, rather than in their secluded barracks will significantly satisfy these calls and enhance public safety,” he said. The lawmaker said the barracks method of housing police and local law enforcement officers, was a relic colonial practice that had since been abandoned by the colonialists. He said Police officers and their families lived in squalor characterised by large cracks on the wall, bat-infested houses, and leaking roofs among others. Omoruyi said the nation’s police officers had been tagged as corrupt and this is not far-fetched from the lack of welfare services for them. He said the public has lost confidence and respect in the officers due to their poor condition of service. The lawmaker said that the deplorable living condition of the police officers had dampened their morale and productivity. He said if this issue was not urgently addressed, the welfare of officers would continue to deteriorate. He said the abolishment of the barracks model and replacement with an enhanced “Housing Allowance” determined by rank, existing police salary structure and location would be beneficial to the officers. Adopting the motion, the House urged the Ministry of Interior and Ministry of Police Affairs to liaise with the Bureau of Public Enterprise to assess the value of all federal-owned barracks across the country. The House said that a public offering should be announced for the same. The House constituted an ad hoc committee to produce a comprehensive addendum to the Police Reform Bill with input from all relevant stakeholders. The House also mandated the Committee on Appropriation to ensure a redeployment of the funds meant for the maintenance of barracks across the country. It urged the committee to make annual budgetary allocation for a befitting “Housing Allowance” for serving police officers while mandating the Committee on Police Affairs to ensure compliance. It directed the committee to report back to the House within four weeks for further legislative action. (NAN) #HouseofRepscallsauctioningofPolicebarracks
