"Oh, darling," Sarang twirls the origami between her fingers, turning it this way and that. She's been practicing. Caught herself brushing her fingers over all sorts of paper, pamphlets, magazines, even the stiffer napkins of some restaurants, mind subconsciously drawn to the forensics expert and the life she exudes.
She's not admitting it to herself yet. That would be detrimental to her cause, wouldn't it? Knowing someone is leaving an impact.
Her smile tastes like poisoned vin brule when she lifts her head to smile at Suki. Her origami is no more than a bookmark, butterfly-shaped, once she'd find while mindlessly scrolling through short videos over short videos, trapped in the pretense of someone fallen deep enough into that she wouldn't possibly notice approaching danger.
She'd been waiting.
She killed her target.
And yet, after getting rid of everything that belonged to that persona, the video had remained.
Suki had remained.
Beyond the personas.
Beyond Sarang's understanding that losing is better than gaining, in terms of connections and people to think of. It's easier when she holds onto something with the excuse she likes to get a rise out of them, or with curiosity justified by the potential of the answer helping some of her endeavours.
But Suki?
Well... maybe... wouldn't be a bonus to have someone like her on her metaphorical, expendable team? Forensic specialist, tough cookie, investigative penchant, assertive and sweet.
Suki would be an incredible asset.
Alas... Sarang isn't putting a lot of effort into... trying to adjust her to perfection to fulfill some sort of task or the other. She doubts someone working for the police department doesn't have anything on her registered somewhere. The occasional mumble or knowing look from her colleagues, because no matter how tight-knit, someone will always talk, really, would it be that difficult for Sarang to start digging?
She crumbles the origami she made in a tight fist.

"Because people are dull, insecure, unimaginative. People who waste time thinking you're weird are the same people who curse their lives on their death-bed for having been too good. You're perfect, lovely. And much more interesting than any people."

“That-”
She’s both very used to hearing that and quite possibly completely unfamiliar with being the target of such a statement.
It’s even lacking an amicable little lilt at the end of the sentence, suggesting a bit of a question mark thrown in solely to have the blow land a little gentler, to insinuate that perhaps mocking kindness but at least some kindness was being offered.
Sure, Sarang does neither need nor want anyone’s kindness nor gentleness, she prefers being jostled around if she already has to stand somewhere and take someone’s inexplicable desire to fuck with her.
But, hey, she would have given a few points to the attempt at rendering all of this more conversational.
Frozen while hunched over her phone, leaning onto her legs as she sits with one of them thrown over the other in what she’d assumed was a casual pose for a casual get-together, Sarang watches people walk by and counts to then.
This is... might infuriating.
Oh come on, Sarang, come ON.
Haven’t you lived your entire mortal life being taught you’ve got nothing but the roots of your hair in your skull? Little Sarang who wasn’t even all that cute for so many because she looked too simple - or perhaps too smart?
Suki does not think that of you, though. Suki probably just thinks silly miss Choi wants to be friendly and a friend, Suki probably just thinks that speaking her mind and stating when she thinks others are wrong about things that matter to her is just and righteous or something.
Suki should not matter that much that the smallest criticism would make you lose your fucking cool.
Sarang straightens her back and turns to stare at Suki.
Nakamura Suki is righteous, or some brand of it. It was easy to see. One of the few in her line of work who give a shit. Sarang respects that - Sarang may yearn for that, be allowed that kind of heart, and it’s not as though Suki is a stranger to pain, hiding that would be difficult even if she was a skilled actress, but Suki turned out wanting to do the right thing and Sarang only wants to do right by herself, because she’s just a scared, scared USELESS little girl, stuck in Joseon, the only daughter of the treacherous Jeon’s.
Sarang laughs, sheepish in a good way of course, awkward in her realisation that of course, she was being way too callous - she’d forgotten miss Choi can be so meek - far too judgemental perhaps?
She brushes a strand of hair out of her peripheral than places the same hand on top of Suki’s. “You’re right, of course, I’m sorry. I was being too mean, wasn’t I? It’s just...” a falling gaze, a sad tilt to her smile, she’s boiling, boiling, boiling. “I guess... sometimes my disappointment gets the best of me...”
