The importance of programming patterns

I understood the importance of programming patterns such as MVC from a functional standpoint.  Today, however, I understand it from a practical perspective.  If the project you are working in doesn’t have a pattern, you struggle (waste time) finding a good place for your logic.  After finding no good place, you come to the conclusion that you have to make a new file.  This is probably why unstructured projects balloon with non-DRY code and tons of files.

I find myself coming back to this book over and over again, because all patterns mentioned in the book are well described and totally applicable! Even if you don't code games this is still a great book every coder should have read, and its FREE!
