Sorry for the delay. New position with the company has me wore out. I like it, so far but it's exhausting with learning a new department . 20 hrs in 2 days with tons of info. I'll get it though. I'm determined. . . So. #proj180 Ghost signs. #bristoltnva has a handful of #ghostsigns around town. I need to explore Johnson City and Kingsport. . . "The process of hand-painting signs, which often took days, if not weeks, to complete, was an advertising medium that continued well into the 20th century before technological advances in printing began taking over beginning in the 1960s. A painter commissioned to create an original sign would sketch out a design and then charcoal an outline on the building before putting brush to brick. . . Although some see the craftsmanship as a dying art soon to become obsolete, grassroots efforts are springing up across the country to encourage a resurgence in hand-painted signs and murals. But the push signifies an approach to something much greater than nostalgia. It spotlights the value placed on weaving together our history with the modern world." ========================== #proj180 Day 3: pic 2 or 2 ================== After every picture I take over the next week, I will turn 180 degrees and take a picture of something else that is beautiful there, that I would have otherwise missed. The only rule is that it is within sight of the original subject. Join me!!! ================= #speaklife #ichoosebeauty #lovewhatmatters #fightforwhatyouwant #postedwithpurpose #posivibes #postivity #spreadthelove #proj180 #loveoneanother #igersvirginia #ig_travelers #ipoft #swvirginia. #historygram

This isn't the greatest quality. Wish I looked at it before i stepped away. Today I tried to find my #proj180 in an antique shop. I want to own a Victrola Talking Machine. So here's Post 1 of 2 of #project180 -- "The Bristol sessions are considered the "Big Bang" of modern country music. They were held in 1927 in Bristol, Tennessee by Victor Talking Machine Company company producer Ralph Peer. Bristol was one of the stops on a two-month, $60,000 trip that took Peer through several major southern cities and yielded important recordings of blues, ragtime, gospel, ballads, topical songs, and string bands. The Bristol Sessions marked the commercial debuts of Jimmie Rodgers and the Carter Family. As a result of the influence of these recording sessions, Bristol has been called the "birthplace of country music." . . Delaware. Did you know these famous phonographs have ties to our first state? Extended history: . . Eldridge Johnson was born in Wilmington, Delaware on February 18, 1867 to Asa S. Johnson and Caroline Reeves Johnson. Upon his mother’s death in 1869 he was sent to live with his mother’s sister and her husband on their farm in northern Kent County near Smyrna. . . . Asa remarried, and at age ten young Johnson moved to Dover to live with his father and stepmother. Johnson attended the Delaware Academy with the hopes of attending college, but he was a poor student and upon his graduation in 1882 at fifteen, the Academy’s director told him “you are too God damned dumb to go to college. Go and learn a trade.... well the rest is history but Wikipedia has great information on him with solid creditable sources. . . . You can learn all about Johnson-Victrola, and Mr Johnson in downtown Dover at the #JohnsonVictrolaMuseum in @downtownDover which is a part of #firststateheritageparks. Learn about the Bristol Sessions, which put Country music on the map by visiting @bcmbristol and by attending the @bristolrhythm this year! . . ====== . #postpositive #happinessfirst #historynerd #speaklife #ichoosebeauty #lovewhatmatters #musicmakestheworldgoround #bristoltnva #antiqueing (at Downtown Bristol)

#proj180 Day 3. Photo 1 of 2. Again. In #downtownamerica #bristoltnva, this time on the Virgina side. "The Cameo was established as a vaudeville theatre – primarily attracting audiences and performers from the passenger trains that regularly stopped in the Twin City. It was used as a movie theater in the years that followed." Info from Herald Courier. . . . A nonprofit Christian Radio Station owns it now, and still sits empty. That I know of. At least. A historic Theatre in America's past time. I love the age showing on the sign. The side of it has a ghost sign that once was so prevalent before other types of signs became more relevant. Photo 2 will explain better. . ================== After every picture I take over the next week, I will turn 180 degrees and take a picture of something else that is beautiful there, that I would have otherwise missed. So. I turn 180 and what do I see? This intriguing Dolly House. Cabin, maybe. . Day 2. Photo 2 of 2. . . We're all small compared to the global scale of things on this earth. But don't think you can achieve something big, no matter your house size. . Be like this doll house. It's old, looks delicate but it's weathered some storms, and bad days yet it is still here. Waiting for what comes next. . Be excited about what comes next. Don't dread today. Leave the past behind. Look forward. . . . The beginning, dollhouses had only two purposes: display and pedagogy. First built in the 17th century in northern Europe, primarily in Germany, Holland, and England, dollhouses were designed for adults. They were closely associated with wealth and served as markers of social class and status. . . ============================ #proj180 Day 2: pic 2 of 2 .
