50 years ago we launched 3 men on a journey to set foot on land no one had ever set foot upon. The ship they sailed in was a mechanical marvel able to sustain them in the cold vastness of space for the duration of their trip and deliver them safely to the welcoming arms of Mother Earth. This is my tribute to that ship. This print will be available as a GLOW IN THE DARK canvas giclee at @gallerynucleus’ NASA @ 60 show this month. I’ve just been given permission to share this previously top secret project! #projectegress is a sort of collaborative, commemorative, patchwork quilt, exquisite corpse, life-size, semi-functional interpretation of the Apollo 11 modules hatch door.... It’s the 50th anniversary of the moon landing by the way! #apollo50 So, basically the original hatch was reverse engineered into parts schematics which were handed out to a bunch of artist/maker/builder/engineer types and we all got to make a little part of it. Now @therealadamsavage and @testedcom are going to assemble the whole mess at the @airandspacemuseum (Smithsonian) for display, along with the original (actual hatch)..... Did anybody read this far? It’s a difficult thing to sum up, but it’s a really cool project, and I’m honored to be among the ranks of the fabulous talent involved. Pretty much finished my commemorative piece. Needs a little touch up, and I could be happier with the finish, but I’m calling it done. 2 pass carve on my xcarve in MDF, spray/brush painted the letters and used a foam roller for the @rustoleum aluminum paint. @therealadamsavage
